For those wondering, I am still working on "But I Made it up?" However I got a bit distracted by a writing prompt on SB and had to write this RWBY drabble. There's only going to be 2 more chapters of this.
Weiss's day had started wonderfully. Sure, the Beacon cafeteria was several steps down in quality from what she was used to but it was simply delicious. She was having biscuits and gravy, which looked repulsive. Ruby was very insistent that it would be great, and Weiss slightly trusted Ruby's taste in food after she practically forced her to eat that deep fried pickle. Weiss had no idea why a pastry worked with slightly lumpy sausage gravy, and it absolutely needed better presentation on her plate, but it was delicious.
Then she saw JNPR approaching. It meant Arc was going to make another advance on her. It would be nice if he could take a damn hint, she has dealt with enough dolts who only want the Schnee name and money. Thankfully he at least had the decency to not go after Pyrrha's fame and growing wealth for himself.
"Hi bestie!" Ruby cheered as she jumped up to wave to their sister team.
"Good morning Ruby!" Arc cheerily said before looking at Weiss and switching to what she assumed was supposed to be seductive tone of voice. "And morning Snow Angel. I got some great tickets to-"
"Arc," Weiss did not have the patience to deal with this right now. She just wanted to enjoy her breakfast. "Do you have to do this so often? I am not interested." She did her best to not seethe as she denied him once again. She did not like doing this, being constantly forced into being the villain.
He kept up a slightly forced cheery smile. "Alright..."
"It'll be fine Jaune," Pyrrha comforted her dolt of a partner, "those tickets though..."
"It's fine Pyrrha, I know someone else who can use-" He was interrupted by his scroll ringing. He checked it and froze. "It's my family lawyer..."
Weiss flinched. Getting a message from a lawyer was never good. Blake and Pyrrha also seemed to understand that this was probably bad, while everyone else probably didn't have enough experience with this to understand the trouble this likely meant.
"Fearless Leader! Why would you sue someone when you have us! JNPR can deal with any problem that has legs!"
"Hopefully it's good news," Arc checked the message before a huge smile covered his face. Weiss released a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. A message from a lawyer could have been a notification to Arc that he lost a family member. She knew her family would send a notification by lawyer if anyone in her family passed away. That he was smiling was a good sign.
He pressed a button on his scroll, calling his lawyer. He pressed his scroll against his ear. "Is this right? It's void now? So it's finally over then, I can stop? I'm free? Am I allowed to talk about it? Thank you, thank you! I'll thank you next time I'm in Radian!" Arc hung up and jumped, pumping his fist in the air. "YES! FINALLY IT'S OVER!"
"J-Jaune? What happened?" Ruby asked, and Weiss wanted to know as well.
"My arranged marriage is officially void!" Arc cheered as he continued his celebration.
"WH-WHAT!" Pyrrha was clearly aghast at such a thing. Weiss had to remind herself that she was new to money and prestige, she likely hasn't had to deal with her family trying to trade her away for power and prestige. Hopefully she wouldn't have to deal with that.
"Yeah, I had an arranged marriage, but now it is finally voided! Not even by my side, so we don't have to deal with any of the penalties!" Arc's joy was infectious, Weiss had to admit. She wouldn't deny that she enjoyed getting away from the dolts her father tried to set her up with.
"Congratulations, Arc. People shouldn't be forced into marriages they don't want." As much as he annoyed her, she didn't want him to be forced into an unwanted marriage.
"Thanks Weiss, also, sorry about the flirting and asking you out over and over again. I'll stop." Arc said as he sat for his breakfast.
Wait, what? How did that make sense? Why would he stop now that he wasn't stuck in an arranged marriage. She didn't know how to respond.
"That's great to hear!" Pyrrha practically shouted. In fact, Weiss didn't think she had ever heard Pyrrha so happy.
"Not that I'm complaining, but why are you stopping now VB?" Weiss both wanted Yang to shut up and let this end and for Arc to say why he was suddenly going to stop.
His exuberant joy started to fade as he thought of how to answer the question. "W-well... I was in a very bad marriage contract, mainly because my dad married into the family and didn't understand what a lot of that meant. We ended up in a position where if we ended it we had huge penalties and the only way to end it without penalties was if the girl... repeatedly rejected me..."
Silence fell over the table as they all mulled over what Arc just said. That was... It was... He WASN'T after her money or family name. "Were you being annoying on purpose?"
"I did apologize..." Arc muttered.
"So... you aren't interested in girls like Weiss?" Pyrrha asked. What was THAT supposed to mean, why was she asking that? Weiss had been trying to ignore Arc as much as she could, did she miss something? Was Pyrrha interested in that dolt?
"Yeah, you aren't interested in Weiss?" Ruby asked as well.
"I've never really thought about it? I don't really know Weiss that well, I was kinda focused on annoying her. She's pretty, but everyone at this table is pretty."
"You flirt," Yang teased.
"You gonna claim someone at this table isn't hot?"
"Fair enough, VB." Yang chuckled.
Nora glared at Yang, "Hands off Renny..."
"Anyway! Lets celebrate the end to the arranged marriage! Lets go to Vale and get the something awesome! Nora, there's a place with special desert pancakes..." Arc easily distracted the jealous Nora.
Weiss watched as everyone returned to their breakfast as she watched her friend group, looking at Arc in a new light. He wasn't going to flirt with her anymore. She had spent so much effort in ignoring his annoying advances that she realized that she didn't really know him that well. She somehow missed that his family was significant enough to trick into a bad arranged marriage. Or that Pyrrha seemed to be attracted to him.
She was glad that they were spared from an arranged marriage but was Arc actually a good man?
