Chapter 1:

Partner Picking

PADDOO!

That was the sound I expected to hear today. Now, what might make that kind of sound? Well, it was the sound of a party kazoo, because today just so happened to be the 10th Birthday of me and my twin sister.

"Come on Chase!" Elaine said. "Today's the day! We need to get down to the Lab! Professor Willow is waiting for us!"

"Okay, okay," I said.

My name is Chase Lacey. As you've probably guessed, the girl who woke me up is my twin sister Elaine. She's a bit… hyperactive to say the least. We live in Pallet Town in the Kanto region, in the house that just so happens to at one point belong to the one and only Red Beauregard! We've looked up to him for some time and today, Mum promised us we could start a journey. We want to go around the Kanto region and collect Badges, but our dream isn't to become the strongest. We want to catch all the Pokémon. First in Kanto, then the world! But taking on the Gyms and getting stronger would definitely help us in the long run.

For our birthday we got some new clothes, a Bag each and, best of all, Trainer Cards! We were so stoked!

"Now hold on," Mum said. She came over to us and gave us both a big hug. "Good luck to both of you."

"Thanks," the two of us said.

As me and Elaine walked to the Lab, we started imagining all the adventures that await us. Elaine was clearly a lot more… ambitious.

"Maybe first I'll catch a Dragonite. No, maybe an Alakazam. Wait, maybe it could be Zapdos!"

"Calm down," I told her. "Let's take things slowly."

"Grumpy," she told me. It was then that we reached the lab. We knocked on the door, but no answer.

"No!" Elaine said. "Come on, I want to start my journey now!"

"Hold on," I said, finding a note on the door.

"Chase, Elaine. Meet me just outside Route 1.

-Prof. Willow."

"That sounds fair," I said. "Come on Elaine!"

"Okay!" she replied.

The two of us got to Route 1 where we saw Professor Willow himself, wearing his jogging suits with his lab coat over it.

"Oh, if it isn't our newest recruits!" the Professor said. "Hold on, I'm just catching them for you."

Elaine was jogging on the spot. "I bet it's a Machamp!"

"Calm," I said. "Look, there are two things in the tall grass."

We saw rustling from either end. Then, they jumped out. One was a Pikachu, the other an Eevee. "Woah!" said Elaine. "Professor, are you going to catch them?"

"Nope!" he said, giving us some Pokéballs. "That's your job!"

"WHAT?!" I said. "Okay, calm down." I threw a Pokéball at Eevee.

It shook once.

Twice.

A third time…

I caught it!

"Well done!" said the Professor. "Okay, how is your-"

Elaine was panicking. She was throwing the Pokéballs willy nilly and missing them all. "Calm down!" I said. "If you don't think about things, you'll just keep missing!"

"But I want to catch it now!" she said.

"You won't if you run out of ammo," I said. "Take a deep breath."

Elaine did. Then, she put all her focus on Pikachu. "Okay Pikachu, you're mine!" She threw the Ball at the yellow Pokémon, and it went inside.

It shook once.

Twice.

A third time…

She caught it!

"Congrats!" said the Professor. "You've just caught your first Pokémon!"

"REALLY?!" I said. "Amazing!"

"I wish I got something a bit… stronger," Elaine said.

"It may not seem that special now," said the Professor. "But just you wait. It'll get stronger and stronger. Come on, to the Lab!"

Let's Go! A Pokémon Journey!

Based on the work by Game Freak

With characters based on the work by Niantic Labs

Location: Professor Willow's Laboratory

The Lab, originally owned by the now retired Professor Samuel Oak, is now the location where Professor Willow does his research. It's amazing what he does. He wants to research more into the actual world of Pokémon and their distribution.

"I must congratulate you again," said the Professor. "Catching your first Pokémon is the first step on your amazing journey to catch em all!"

"Yeah!" I said. "So. 2 down and 149 to go!"

"That's right!" Professor Willow said. "I've seen many Trainers in my time, but two siblings working together to expand the Pokédex? That's new on me! And speaking of the Pokédex…" The Professor went into a drawer and pulled out two red electronic handbooks. "Here they are! They will help you keep track of all the Pokémon in the Kanto region!" He gave them to us. "Pikachu and Eevee are already registered, check em out!"

Pikachu (イカチュウ)

#025

Electric Type

Mouse Pokémon

1'04" (0.4 m)

13.2 lbs (6 kg)

This forest-dwelling Pokémon stores electricity in its cheeks, so you'll feel a tingly shock if you touch it.

Eevee (イーブイ)

#133

Normal Type

Evolution Pokémon

1'00" (0.3 m)

14.3 lbs (6.5 kg)

It can evolve into a variety of forms. Eevee's genes are the key to solving the mysteries of Pokémon evolution.

"May I please see your Pokémon?" the Professor asked.

"Sure!" we both said, sending both Pokémon out. The Professor studied them both.

"Hmm. Interesting." Willow got out a handheld scanner, just like those found at airports. He scanned both of them, and they made a beeping sound. "Okay, I've got some good and bad news. The bad news… these ones can't evolve."

"WHAT?!" Elaine shouted. "But I wanted a strong Raichu."

"Hold on," I said. "Let's hear what Professor Willow has to say."

"The good news is… I think these ones might be able to learn moves that others usually can't! These Pokémon are special in that sense!"

"Wow!" I said. "Exclusive moves! Sounds fun! So hwo do we learn them?"

"Go to various Tutors," Professor Willow said. "I believe the first ones would be in Cerulean City. There are Gyms on the way, I wish you luck! Here." Professor Willow gave us some more Pokéballs. "Good luck!"

"Thanks," I said. "Hey Elaine, let's start off by catching the Pokémon on Route 1!"

Location: Pallet Town

Upon leaving the Lab, we saw a familiar face. He was wearing a grey shirt and had scruffy-brown hair.

"Oh, hey Trace!" I said.

"Hey! Happy Birthday!" he said. "Going out then?"

"Yeah!" Elaine replied. "You as well?"

"Yep!" he said. "I already caught my first Pokémon! Go!" He sent out a brown feathery Pokémon. "This is Pidgey, and it will be my best friend on this journey! I can see you got yourselves a Pikachu and Eevee! Tell you what, I'm gonna be the best Trainer ever! I hope that won't stop you from your goals!"

"It won't," I assured him. "Okay, let's hit the road!"

Will he be important? I dunno.

Location: Route 1

"Doo doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doooo doo doo!" sung Elaine.

"Hold up!" I said. "Remember, I'm at least 10 minutes older than you so theoretically, that makes me the one in charge!"

"Have some fun for once!" Elaine said.

"Well, you do need to take this journey somewhat seriously," I said. "Stop and think for a minute and slow down. If you didn't, you wouldn't have caught Pikachu. Okay, let's catch ourselves a Pokémon."

In the tall grass, we saw a Rattata. "Let's try throwing a Pokéball together," Elaine said.

"What?" I replied. "What do you mean?"

"Trust me!" she said.

I mean there was nothing wrong with trying something new. So we went into a catch match with the Rattata.

"This one should be easy," I said. "Okay, on my mark. We will throw it in-"

"You're mine!" Elaine said, about to throw a Ball. I grabbed her arm.

"What did I just say?"

Elaine stopped. "Okay." She took a breath. "Let's do it!"

We both threw a Pokéball. "Rattata, you're ours!" The Pokéballs hit at the same time. As it did, they both combined into one. Then, Rattata went inside. It shook once, twice, and third time…

We caught it!

"Our second catch!" Elaine said.

"How did you… know how to do that?" I asked.

"Instincts!" she said. "Okay, let's see what the ol' Dex has to say!"

Rattata (コラッタ)

#019

Normal Type

Mouse Pokémon

1'00" (0.3 m)

7.7 lbs (3.5 kg)

It will chew on anything with its fangs. If you see one, it is certain that 40 more live in the area.

"148 to go!" Elaine shouted. "So, what's next?"

I looked around in the tall grass and found our next target. "That's a Pidgey!" I said. "We get those around Pallet Town all the time!" We ran towards it. Pidgey was there just pecking at the ground.

"Let's give it a go," Elaine said. "Together!" We both threw a Ball, but for some reason my throw was a bit weak and didn't hit Pidgey. Meanwhile, Elaine's made contact and Pidgey went inside.

It shook once.

It shook twice.

It shook a third time.

And Pidgey was caught!

Pidgey (ポッポ)

#016

Normal/Flying Type

Tiny Bird Pokémon

1'00" (0.3 m)

4 lbs (1.8 kg)

If attacked, this docile Pokémon will often kick up sand to protect itself rather than fight back.

As we continued walking, we saw a Youngster.

"I believe we have to battle him," I said. "Let's do it together!"

"Yeah!" Elaine said as we walked in front of him.

"Hey! I'm willing to take both of you on!"

Chase and Elaine Vs. Youngster Ronny

"Rattata, go!" Ronny shouted.

"Pikachu, you're up!" Elaine shouted.

"And I'm using Eevee!" I replied.

"Okay Rattata, Quick Attack!" Rattata dashed forward with a Quick Attack on Pikachu.

"Use Tackle Eevee!"

"Pikachu, Thundershock!" Pikachu fired with a small bolt of electricity and Eevee rammed into Rattata. It was down.

"Guess I can't take you both down…"

"We're almost at Viridian!" I said. "Just through this last piece of tall grass!" We were walking through, when Elaine almost tripped. It turned out to be a very angry Oddish. "A Grass Type!" she said. "I've heard the Pewter and Cerulean Gyms focus on Rock and Water Types respectively! It will be great for Oddish!"

The two of us through a Pokéball at Oddish.

It shook once.

Twice.

Third time.

We caught it!

Oddish (ナゾコナサ)

#043

Grass/Poison Type

Weed Pokémon

1'08" (0.5 m)

11.9 lbs (5.4 kg)

It may be mistaken for a clump of weeds. If you try to yank it out of the ground, it shrieks horribly.

Location: Viridian City

After all that, we finally made it to Viridian City.

"Let's settle down here for the night," Chase said.

"Good idea," Elaine replied. "Hey, there are only so many pages in this Journal. Shall we only focus on the Gym battles?"

"Good idea," I replied. I then looked at the Gym. "Who's running the Gym now?"

"I don't know," Elaine replied. "Giovanni has disappeared and Blue left the Gym to go to Alola. I guess we'll find out when we can."

Oh and also, we should just take on the Gyms one at a time. No big team ups for those.
