Chapter 2 An Unexpected Savior

"What the hell was that stunt you pulled out there?!" Bret's angry voice thundered through her ears.

"I…"

"You thought it was funny huh? You thought it was funny!" Bret yelled as he gripped her by her jacket collar making her scream out loud. "You little bitch!"

"Listen, hi. I just did what I th…thought would be great for television. I didn't m… mean any harm" Lacey stammered as she looked up with terrified eyes at Bret who looked ready to break her neck. "Please, let me go. I'm sorry"

"You're sorry huh? Do you even have any idea what you did?!" Bret asked as he yelled once again making the blonde girl wince. "You made me look like a fool out there!"

"I didn't mean any harm" She said truthfully as her big blue eyes shone up at him, welling with tears. "Please don't hurt me" She pleaded. "I won't tell my brother about this just…"

"What would your brother do anyways, huh? Why did you do what you did out there?!" Bret asked angrily as he held onto her jacket tighter, choking her a little. "Answer me!"

"What the… that's enough Bret! Jesus, let her go man!" Owen, who heard the screams said as he came to Lacey's rescue. "I said let her go!" Bret glared at the young woman once more before letting her go and shoving her into the women's locker room doo in the process. She let out a loud scream and hunched forward clutching her back. 'Bret! What the hell was that for?"

"Whatever. Just tell that blonde bitch to stay the hell away from me or next time it won't be pretty" Bret warned as he casted one last look of disdain at the young Michaels before making his way out.

Lacey's emotional state was still in a mixture of fear, shock and confusion. She had no idea why Bret would corner her out of the blue when she literally didn't do anything to upset him.

"Hey… hey, Lacey. I'm so sorry for what my brother did to you. Are you okay?" Owen asked, kneeling down beside Lacey as he helped her up to her feet.

"I… I dunno. I've never been so scared in my life." She said truthfully. "What was he planning on doing to me? And why did he even corner me in the first place? I didn't do anything to him!"

"He was pretty pissed after the encounter. He thought you made him look stupid. You know how he is with his ego. He'd have preferred you to hit him in the face with the title or something like that"

"But… I didn't kiss him. I didn't force him to react like that. I was just trying to be creative and entertaining. He could've easily pushed me off and regained his momentum back. I… Owen, I'm scared. What I saw in his eyes…"

"It's alright Lacey. It's alright. On his behalf I'd love to apologize. Come here" Owen said as he pulled her into a friendly hug. "Bret has issues with his anger. I'll talk to him alright." She nodded and pushed away from him, picked up her title belt which had fallen on the floor in the hustle and got into the female locker room.

Owen sighed. She was shaken up. He'd never seen her like that before. Lacey Michaels almost always had a smile on her face. She loved life and she loved living life. For her to say that this was the scariest thing she had ever experienced, he knew Bret crossed a major line with her.

"What the hell is your deal man?" Owen asked as he confronted Bret once he got back to their locker room. Seated inside were Brian Pillman and 'The British Bulldog' Davey Boy Smith who were startled by Owen's sudden outburst.

"If it's about Shawn's sister I don't wanna hear it" Bret dismissed. "Tonight was already as embarrassing at it was. God, that bitch. If you didn't show up, God knows what I would've done to her" Bret said angrily as he clenched his fists.

"'That bitch' Bret is my friend. Don't you dare get close to her again or else it's in the ring. Don't forget I can easily beat your ass as well." Owen threatened. Bret turned over to him.

"Really? You'd turn on your own brother over a girl huh. Shawn's sister for that matter. Especially after what she did out there tonight!"

"But hey hold up one sec, yeah. Bret, what did she do to you that was so bad anyways?" Brian asked. "From what I saw on screen, you seemed confused but you weren't pushing her away or anything. If I didn't know any better I'd say you were at least anticipating a kiss" Brian teased as the rest of the guys laughed.

"I… I don't have to dignify that insult with a response." Bret said before turning back to his brother "And fine. I won't touch her outside the ring or outside storyline. Is that good enough for you and your little friend Owen?"

Owen rolled his eyes in response and said nothing to his brother as he pushed past him to get to his own bag.

"Oh you're ignoring me now is that it? Alright. Davey, what do you think? Do you think ol' Bret here was expecting a kiss from that blonde bombshell? Is that why he didn't move? Is that why despite the fact that she did nothing wrong to him, he's still pissed because he didn't get that kiss? What are your thoughts?" Brian asked as he held up his fist to Davey mimicking a mic setting.

"Well, I'd say, if that girl was coming up to me. Despite it costing me the match, I'd still get my kiss then push her off the apron and face the consequences" Davey said.

"May I remind you that one, you're married to my sister so watch your mouth" Bret warned as Davey raised up his hands in mock surrender. "And two, I wouldn't fucking want those dirty lips of that girl on mine. She's Shawn sister and knowing her brother, who can tell where those lips have been?" Bret asked with a visible shudder. Owen glared at him. "Okay fine Owen. I won't talk about your friend. Now c'mon, let's go out and get some drinks. Undertaker's buying today!"

Lacey was still very shaken up after that encounter with Bret Hart. It was her first time having an actual conversation with the man and it was a horrible experience to say the least. She'd never felt that's scared before. She'd never been in that position of not knowing what would happen to her next.

She'd never begged anyone not to hurt her before. No one had ever had any reason to hurt her.

That is until she met Bret Hart.

She was well informed about her brother and Bret Hart's feud and completely stayed out of it. She wouldn't lie to herself, her brother despite how sweet and caring he was to her was an ass. His friends too, despite how kind they were to her were asses as well. She could see how Bret would hate her brother and honestly, she had no problems with it.

As long as it didn't involve her.

But now it did.

She'd always had the feeling that Bret wasn't her biggest fan but she never acted on it because well… they never talked. She just reasoned that he extended his ever present disdain for Shawn to her and she was okay with it. Until tonight.

Truth be told, she liked Bret. As a wrestler, as an entertainer, as a champion and hell… he was a pretty good looking guy too. She had sneaked a few glances at him one too many times.

She knew he was divorced and currently single, that was one of the reasons why she decided to play up what she did in the ring. Also, because she didn't wanna physically hurt him. It was just good, clean… okay maybe not so clean fun.

Him coming all the way to her to confront her as their very conversation left a bitter taste in her mouth. She was frightened. She was scared of Bret and what he wanted to and could do to her.

She was in shock, not believing that he would corner her like that.

But most interestingly, she was intrigued, confused and curious. That was probably not a good thing but she'd always been a girl who wanted to get all the answers. And the answer she wanted right now was to why Bret was angry with her.

But she knew she wouldn't get it, at least not right now anyways. Oh well, a girl could dream…

"Hey, why do you look so down in the dump?" Chyna asked with a worried expression plastered on her face. Lacey sighed. Chyna was like the big sister she never had. She was always the first to notice when something was off with Lacey.

"Bret. He cornered me and… he grabbed my collar and… God, Chyna I was scared to my bone!" Lacey gasped. "I didn't know what he wanted to do to me. Thank goodness Owen came just in time"

"Wait hold up, Bret cornered you and almost hurt you… why? You guys don't even talk. Unless…" Chyna's face contorted in confusion then sudden realization. "…no"

"Yes" Lacey replied nervously as she bit her lip.

"Oh God" Chyna said stifling a laugh. "Okay Lace, forgive me for being amused but you mean to tell me that Bret 'Hitman' Hart, the excellence of execution, came to confront you because of what happened in the ring?" Chyna said as she tried to suppress her laughter. Lacey nodded looking confused. With that, Chyna burst out into uncontrollable laughter.

"Well I'm glad my pain is funny to you" Lacey mumbled.

"I'm sorry sweetheart I really am but I owe Hunter twenty bucks now" Chyna said amidst chuckles. Lacey raised an eyebrow. "See sweetie, Hunter and I bet that Bret was actually pissed off and not just for the sake of the storyline because deep down, he actually wanted you to kiss him."

"What?! That's ridiculous!" Lacey exclaimed. "How could…? He was not!"

"Think about it Lace. Why is he really angry?"

"I dunno, because I made him look foolish or whatnot"

"And… he only looked foolish because he was probably expecting you to lean in and kiss him. Oh this is so funny. Wait till I tell Hunter" Chyna said but was quickly stopped by Lacey. "Hey, what gives?"

"I'm sorry but… can you please not tell your boyfriend?" Lacey pleaded. Chyna furrowed her eyebrows. "I don't want him telling Shawn. You know Shawn would get mad and come after Bret then they'd fight all over again and get suspended. I'm really not in the mood for that drama"

"I understand. If it makes you feel any better, I'll have a little chat with Bret tomorrow" Chyna said. Lacey nodded, feeling grateful to her friend. At that moment, Shawn and Hunter burst into the female locker room like the degenerates they portrayed themselves as on a weekly basis.

"You guys know people could have been changing here. Including your sister Shawn" Chyna fired.

"Well, now that you put it that way" Shawn said with a face full of disgust. "Sorry sis."

"It's alright." She said with a small smile. Shawn raised an eyebrow. "What?"

"My little sister is not happy. I can tell" Shawn pointed out. Oh right, she forgot that most times, Shawn could read her like a fucking book.

"I…"

"Which is why she needs to come out with us tonight and chill a bit" Shawn said. Lacey heaved a sigh of relief at that statement. Shawn wasn't on to her after all. "And some of our WCW boys are in town for Nitro tomorrow so it's gonna be epic."

Lacey froze. Did he say WCW boys? A wave of nausea overthrew her suddenly.

She wanted to puke.

"Uh… like DDP, Hogan…" Lacey listed wincing a bit.

"Yeah. Also Kevin, Scott all of them" Shawn said taking a note of how her demeanor changed. "Is there something wrong?" Shawn asked with concern. "You don't have to come if you don't want to"

"No. It's cool. I'll come" She said as she forced out one of her award winning smiles.

"Awesome. We leave in ten" Shawn said. Lacey nodded as she watched Shawn and Hunter scurry away and sighed. Truth be told, she just wanted to get back to her own bed and drift off into dreamland but knowing that… he… was in town, she was better off at the bar or club or wherever they were going to.

At least people would be present.

Where she could scream if things went south.

Chyna didn't fail to notice the distressed look on the blonde's face and could only hope she was okay.

The club scene wasn't Lacey's scene at all. And while she could manage to fit in most times by chatting up a few people, dancing a little and having a drink or two… she wasn't into any of that at that current moment.

The WWF wrestlers got exclusive passes into the club and so did WCW wrestlers. It was nice to see some of her friends again from the other side. She reunited with a lot of them such as Hulk Hogan, Sherri Martel, Curt Hennig and Alundra Blayze aka Madusa.

"Damn girl, congrats on the title. The same title I threw in the trash a couple of years ago but hey, that's all in the past" Alundra joked.

"Yeah, I almost forgot it was because of you the company had no champion for a while" Lacey said as she narrowed her eyes playfully at Alundra. "But that's all in the past. It's great to see you again" Alundra said with genuine happiness. Lacey gave her a warm smile of her own but that smile wavered a bit when she noticed that…he… had arrived too.

It had been three weeks since she last set her eyes on him last. And oh the peace she's had all this time.

He walked into the club with his buddies acting like he owned the place. And while he was attractive, whenever he was around he made Lacey's life a living hell.

"Are you still with me Lacey?" Alundra called out. Lacey turned her eyes back to the blonde and blinked a little. "Lacey, is everything alright?"

"Yeah. I just got a little out of it for a moment, it happens" Lacey said. Alundra nodded.

"Don't I know?" She chuckled. "Speaking of being out of it, Bret sure looked out of it after what you did to him tonight" Alundra said with a laugh. Lacey blushed in embarrassment.

"Oh God, was it that bad?" Lacey asked.

"Was it that bad? Girl. The guys were literally rolling with laughter. Bret looked like he was expecting you to kiss him. It was priceless!" Alundra said laughing once more. Lacey groaned.

"No wonder he's mad at me. I really did make him look foolish" Lacey mumbled.

"Hey cheer up, it's Bret. He'll find someone else to be mad at and forget about you in like two days." Alundra said. "In the meantime, a bunch of guys are at that table with your DX guys. How about we go say hi"

"I…" Lacey wasn't given much time to give a response as Alundra dragged her away by the arm until they got to the table.

Lacey could feel…his… eyes on her and tried her best to avoid them. As long as they were in a crowd like this, maybe she could successfully ignore him till the night comes to an end.

Hell, she was pretty sure she would call it a night soon before he got the chance to talk to her.

"If it isn't the newest champion in town!" Kevin Nash said to her as he stood up and gave her a hug. "And what a way to deal with Bret Hart. You should see how the boys and I were laughing, right Scott?"

"Big time. Hennig over there lost his shit!" Scott said as he also hugged Lacey. "Congrats on the win beautiful"

"Thanks guys." She said with a smile. Kevin and Scott were friends with Shawn and Hunter and they, along with X-Pac who was currently out with an injury formed a backstage group called ''The Kliq'.

"Hey, have you had a drink yet Lacey? If you haven't let all your drinks be on me. My treat!" Curt Hennig said as Lacey took a seat in between him and his best friend Rick Rude. She giggled.

"Not today Mr. Perfect. But thank you" She said politely.

"Hey, why not celebrate with just one drink? You are the champ after all" Scott teased.

"On the contrary, I think she shouldn't drink. Shawn wouldn't even want her drinking anyways" Kevin said. "So good for you girl" Lacey smiled. Kevin was always the protective big brother figure around while Scott was a wildcard.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the friends her brother kept.

"You know, speaking of Shawn, where is he?" She asked glancing around and finding Shawn chatting up a girl. She rolled her eyes. "Nevermind"

They all talked for a while and the entire time she could feel those piercing eyes on her. At a point she got uncomfortable and she decided to call it a night. She waited until he was out of sight then sent a text to Chyna that she was heading back to the hotel.

Heck, she wasn't sure if she was even safe in her hotel room but she just couldn't stand the stares he gave her every freaking minute.

She told everyone their respective goodbyes and proceeded to make her way out of the club. But as luck may have it, she didn't get very far.

She was pulled by the arm into a secluded area at the back of the club. Too debilitated to scream, she resigned to her fate as she followed…him… there.

When they got to a place where no one seemed to be around, he wasted no moment by pushing her into a wall making sure to get a glance at her frightened face. He smiled.

"You've been avoiding my gaze all night beautiful. Now you tried to run away from me. You haven't forgotten our deal have you?" He asked as one of his hands snaked under her top.

"I…" She was cut off by his lips pressing themselves on hers as he engulfed her into a forceful kiss which she had no other choice but to reciprocate.

"The night doesn't end here. Once my cab gets here, it's you and I, in my hotel room. I wanna hear you scream my name all night long!" He said as he continued kissing her not minding the tears which fell freely down her face.

Meanwhile…

Bret knew coming to this club was a bad idea. He wasn't in the mood for drinks, for dirty dancing or for mingling though he met some friends from WCW and that was cool and all but other than that, he wasn't in the mood at all.

And he certainly wasn't in the mood for picking up some random girl here and having a senseless night of passion. Though that could help his predicament.

He brooded all night long with his main focus on the young Michaels. For some reason he couldn't get her and her stupid face out of his head.

She had made a fool out of him. Most of these WCW guys were laughing their asses off at him and could he really blame them? He couldn't. It was all her fault.

He kept his eyes on her all night. He saw her mingle with some people and she seemed to be having a good time a bit but she also seemed to be on edge about something.

He knew it wasn't his business but he wondered what it could be. He saw her turning her head and scanning the vicinity almost every two minutes before she decided to take a leave. He noticed her heading for the exit but being dragged off by a tall person.

Because he was watching from afar, he couldn't make out the figure. Something inside him decided to follow them so he left his table and made his way after them making sure to hasten his footsteps in the process. And then he got the sight of his life.

Scott Hall making out with a full on sobbing Lacey Michaels.

"What the hell? Get off her!" Bret said as he dragged Scott off Lacey who still looked shaken up. "What's the deal? She's crying can't you see that?"

"Um… why yes. I just noticed. And hey, this is Lacey. Wow. Sorry beautiful, I thought you were some other girl. It must be the drinks. Well, later." Scott said as he made sure to kiss Lacey's cheek before going and from what Bret could see, he whispered something into her ear.

Once he was gone, Lacey wiped off her tears and looked up at Bret who hadn't taken his eyes off her since he got there.

"What in the hell did I just witness?" Bret asked.

Yeah, I know right? Who knew Bret could be the world's toughest softie? And Scott, don't hate me for making him a villain. He is still one of my top favorite wrestlers of all time and this is fiction anyways.
