Chapter 3: History of the Heart

(Intro)

Today, the Storm Hawks were waiting in the Condor's skimmer hanger bay for a very special guest. "You sure he's coming, Aerrow?" Piper asked. "I'm sure. He gave us his word he would come." Aerrow said. "I'm sure if we know him, he'll be making quite an entrance." Sky said. "He always does. Especially for his age." Skyla said. "You're both exaggerating. Surely, he knows better than to continue on with his thrill-seeking entrances." Skyler said. "Uh, I think you might wanna resent that statement, Skyler." Aria said, pointing out the open hatch.

Everyone looked out the hatch to see an approaching skimmer. Grandpa Thunderay was driving it. "Uh, he's coming at us a little too fast." Stork said. "I think we should probably move!" Finn exclaimed. Thunderay started to get closer to the hatch. "Scatter!" Aerrow shouted. Everyone scattered out of the way as Thunderay switched his skimmer to land-mode, landed inside the hanger and skidded to a gentle stop. "Now that was a heck of an entrance." Thunderay said. "Grandpa! We talked about you continuing those reckless stunts!" Skyler exclaimed. "Oh, come now, Skyler. Let an old man have what fun he can before his time's up. Besides, I didn't hurt anyone. This time." Thunderay said. Skyler smirked as he shook his head. "Anyway, you lot said you wanted to see me about something?" Thunderay asked.

The Storm Hawks brought Thunderay into the bridge. "So, we were wondering. Could you please tell us about the Heart of Atmos?" Aerrow asked, placing the Heart of Atmos on the table. "Ah, yes. The origin of the Heart of Atmos. Ah, it's quite the story. One I haven't told in…hmm… Then again, I can't remember a time when I didn't tell it." Thunderay joked, making his triplet grandchildren laugh. "So, will you please tell us the story?" Aria asked. "But of course, my child. Everyone, gather around the lamp, and I will tell you a great origin of the Heart of Atmos." Thunderay said.

The Storm Hawks all sat in a circle as Thunderay set down a lantern and joined in the circle as he began to tell the story of the Heart of Atmos. "Now to start this tale, the Heart of Atmos, it was never really found here in Atmos from the start." He began. "Then, where did it come from?" Junko asked. "The Heart came from Outer Space to the point where our very universe was created. For you see, the Heart was a space crystal that beholds a tremendous power that no one could ever imagine." Thunderay continued. "But how did the Heart come to Atmos?" Piper asked. "Ah, now that's quite the side-story in this tale." Thunderay said. "You see, the Heart had drifted throughout the cosmos for millenniums until its path brought it to our beloved planet Earth. And then it crashed in our very home of Atmos. And the Heart adopted it and became our land's very core." The Storm Hawks were at awe from hearing this.

"And the Heart was found by a group of young travelers. And upon touching the Heart, it activated its powers, transforming the young travelers into legendary warriors of Atmos known as the Skylight Guardians." Thunderay continued. "And as the first generation began, they've protected the Atmos from its many dangers for 2500 years." The Storm Hawks were shocked to hear this part as they've heard the story of the Skylight Guardians when they were kids. "Man, that's quite the tale." Finn said. Suddenly, Aerrow realized something. "Thunderay, were you a Skylight Guardian before us?" He asked. "Yes. I was the former Skylight Guardian of Water of the 99th generation. Before we were betrayed…by Cyclonis' grandmother, Master Anarchis, who was the former Skylight Guardian of Shadows." Thunderay revealed. That made the Storm Hawks gasp. "But what made Anarchis betray you and your team, Grandpa?" Skyla asked. "Anarchis became so obsessed with the Heart's powers and she wanted it for herself. And that led to the downfall of the 99th. She killed our leader, the Skylight Guardian of Air and keeper of the Heart." Thunderay explained. The Storm Hawks were horrified by this. Especially Stork, who was about to faint, but Riggorix caught him. "After that dark day, I kept the Heart with me and went into hiding until I found the right team to become the Skylight Guardians of the 100th generation. Which is you, the new Storm Hawks. You are the next Skylight Guardians as the 100th generation." Thunderay said, finishing the story.

The Storm Hawks were shocked by this, knowing that their lives will be forever changed by becoming the new Skylight Guardians. "Aerrow, this is why I have chosen to give you the Heart of Atmos as its new keeper. Because you and your team know the burdens of protecting the Atmos. And I know you will honor the legacy of not just your Storm Hawk predecessors, but also the legacy of the Skylight Guardians." Thunderay said as he stood up. Aerrow understood this and stood up. "We will do our best to carry on the legacies and protect Atmos." He said as the others stood up. Thunderay chuckled. "I am very happy to hear this. But you must not let the Cyclonians get their hands on the Heart. Now that Cyclonis knows about it, she'll be after it." He said. "Don't worry. We'll protect it and won't let Cyclonis anywhere near it." Aerrow assured.

Meanwhile, in Cyclonia, Master Cyclonis was welcoming a new additional member to her army. He was a man around Isis' age named Argo. He was dressed in a Cyclonian uniform and wore dark goggles, indicating that he was blind. Dark Ace, Ravess, Snipe, Repton, Isis and Lilias watched as Master Cyclonis was giving Argo his assignment. "I have enlisted your service because there is something I need you to fetch for me." Cyclonis began to explain. "There is a new team of Storm Hawks protecting the Atmos. And they have something I want. The Heart of Atmos. Can you get it for me, Argo?" "I can and I will, Master Cyclonis. My father served your grandmother in the past, and I shall serve you now." Argo said, bowing to Master Cyclonis.

Just then, Snipe walked up to Argo and waved his hand in front of Argo's face. "How can he manage to get the Heart from the Storm Hawks?! He's blind!" He exclaimed. But then Argo grabbed Snipe's arm and flipped him onto his back. "True that I cannot see, but you should refrain from standing so close next time. I could smell your breath." Argo said. Ravess, Repton, Isis and Lilias were surprised by Argo's actions, but Dark Ace just smirked. "How did he do that?! He just took down Snipe without even looking at him!" Repton exclaimed. "Would you care to test me, Repton? I could use a quick warmup." Argo dared. "I agree. Repton, see if you can give Argo a real workout." Master Cyclonis said. Repton smirked. "With pleasure, Master Cyclonis." He said, drawing his Energy Boomerang. "Oh no you don't. Don't think I'm letting you take this guy on by yourself, tough guy." Lilias said. "2 on 1, eh? I like those odds." Repton said. Argo smirked.

Repton and Lilias took position on both sides of Argo, weapons ready. Argo drew his energy pistol. "First, a Smoke Crystal to set the mood." He said, shooting at the floor between his feet and creating a veil of smoke. "What's going on? Lilias, be careful!" Isis yelled. Lilias just shouted, charged into the smoke and swung her Energy Club. But Argo managed to outmaneuver her, sneak up behind her and pinched her shoulder, knocking her out. Repton then searched the smoke for Argo. Suddenly, Argo came out of nowhere and grabbed Repton by his neck. Then Argo unveiled a hidden Energy Blade from his wrist and slashed at Repton, blasting him out of the smoke cloud. This surprised Ravess and Isis. "As expected." Dark Ace said. As the smoke cleared, Argo stood tall with Repton and Lilias out cold on the ground. Master Cyclonis slowly clapped her hands. "Well done, Argo. Once again, you have proven your excellent sense heightened skills." She said. "And I'll be sure to do the same to the Storm Hawks, Master Cyclonis." Argo said, bowing to Master Cyclonis before leaving. Isis watched Argo leave with interest, her face flustered.

Meanwhile, after Thunderay left, the Storm Hawks took the time to set the Condor down in the forest. Aerrow sat against a tree as he held up the Heart of Atmos, wondering what powers it held. "Still looking at the Heart, Aerrow?" Aria asked as she walked over to her brother with Radarr and Mimi. "I'm just wondering what other powers the Heart of Atmos has." Aerrow said. Mimi got on Radarr's shoulder as he hopped off Aria's. Radarr walked over to Aerrow and chittered something. "You and Mimi want to see what it can do with you, Radarr?" Aerrow asked. Radarr and Mimi nodded. "Okay." Aerrow said as he placed the Heart in Radarr's paw. Radarr and Mimi stared at the Heart for a moment. Suddenly, the Heart started to glow. And then Radarr and Mimi got cloaked in a bright blue aura. Aerrow and Aria were surprised by this. And just as it started, the aura died out. "Uh, what just happened?" Aria asked. "I don't know. They just glowed." Aerrow said. "Maybe it was just a dud." A male voice said. "It must've done something." A female voice said. Aerrow and Aria were stunned by the sudden voices. "Who said that?" Aerrow asked. "I don't know. I don't see anyone else here." Aria said. "Uh, Aerrow? Aria?" The male voice said. Aerrow and Aria slowly turned their heads to Radarr and Mimi. "I think that was…me and Mimi?!" Radarr said with shocking realization. Aerrow and Aria were shocked by this. "O…M…" Mimi started to say. Then all 4 screamed so loud, their voices echoed throughout the whole forest.

They went back to the Condor and told the rest of the Storm Hawks about what the Heart did to Radarr and Mimi. Of course, they screamed just as loud in shock. "Dude! Radarr and Mimi can talk now!" Finn exclaimed. "Yeah. I guess the Heart can give creatures like Radarr and Mimi the ability to talk." Piper said. "We can hardly believe it either! We actually have voices!" Radarr exclaimed. "I know! I think I love it!" Mimi squealed. "Huh. I wonder what other secrets you hold." Aerrow said as he looked at the Heart in his hand. "Hey, I got an idea. Why don't we try to find out by training in the forest?" Aria suggested. "That's a good idea. That way, we can find out what kind of tricks the Heart has granted us with." Aerrow said. "You guys up for it?" Aria asked. The Storm Hawks cheered, except for Stork, getting a bad feeling about this. Again.

The Storm Hawks went off in separate directions to test their new powers in separate parts of the forest. But what they failed to notice was that Argo had tracked them down and heard them go off in separate directions. "Hmm-hmm. Perfect. Time to pick them off." He muttered with a smirk.

Aerrow and Radarr walked over to where they all played Stop the Sky Knight, seeing all the trees Junko trashed. "What're you thinking, Aerrow?" Radarr asked. "Well, I just couldn't stop thinking about the air powers I used against the Dark Ace back at Cyclonia." Aerrow said. "And?" Radarr asked. "I kept wondering what else I can do with these air powers. So, with the trees Junko knocked down from our last fly through here, I can test them out." Aerrow explained. "Well then, by all means, let's see what you can do." Radarr said. "You know, it's gonna take some time getting used to with you being able to talk now." Aerrow said. Radarr just shrugged with a smile. Aerrow then turned back to the trees and prepared himself. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath and raised his hand. Then he opened his eyes and they glowed pastel blue. Then he started moving his hand around and around. As he did that, the air around the trees began to gather, creating a tornado of sorts. "Wow." He said in amazement as the tornado started to pick the trees up in its windy grasp. "Whoa. That's really cool." Radarr said in awe. Aerrow then slowed his hand, causing the tornado to slowly subside and place the trees gently back on the ground. "Wow! I didn't realize I had that much power in me now!" Aerrow exclaimed. But before they could celebrate, they heard a branch snap. They turned to see what it was, only to be caught in a net. As they tried to get free, the net gave out an electric shock, shocking them with great pain. Radarr lost consciousness, except Aerrow as he saw Argo walk up to them. "So, you must be the leader. It's an honor." Argo said, just as Aerrow lost consciousness.

Aria took a spot in a nice patch of grass. "This looks like a nice spot to test out my powers." She said. "You always sure know how to pick a spot to practice." Mimi said. "Thanks, Mimi. You know, I think I'm gonna love you more now that you can talk." Aria said. "You were always so sweet to me ever since you found me abandoned in the Wastelands." Mimi said, nuzzling her best friend. "Alright. Now, let's see what I can do with my new powers." Aria said. She then closed her eyes and raised her hands. Her eyes then opened with a pale pink glow and her hands became encased in pink orbs. Then she fired energy beams from her hands, blasting down a few trees. "Whoa! That was amazing!" She exclaimed with excitement. "Yeah. I've never seen such power before." Mimi said. But before anything more could be said, Aria felt the grass move from beneath her. "Uh, what was that?" She asked. She got her answer as the ground gave way. She and Mimi screamed as they fell into a pit trap.

The Stormhearts took spot near a big boulder. "Now, let's see what manner of tricks we can do with our abilities." Skyler said. "Skyla, you go first. Since you're the lady here." Sky said. "Thanks, Sky. You're a really sweet brother." Skyla said as she took her position. Then she knelt down to the ground, closed her eyes and placed her hands on it. Then she opened her eyes and they glowed light green. Then 2 large earth pillars emerged from the ground. "Whoa! Now that's really impressive!" Sky said. "Whew! That really takes a lot out of me." Skyla said, standing up and stretching her muscles. "Take a breather, sis. It's my turn to test my powers." Skyler said. As Skyla took a seat next to Sky, Skyler stepped forth, closed his eyes and raised his hands. Then he opened his eyes and they glowed orange. Then he formed a fireball in midair and he moved it around with his arms. Then he blasted it at the pillars. The fire engulfed the pillars and started to heat them up, melting them into lava. "Well, that was unexpected." Skyler said. "Don't worry. I know what to do." Sky said as he stepped forth. He closed his eyes and held out his hands. Then he opened his eyes and they glowed ocean blue. Then he blasted a large torrent of water at the lava oozing pillars, cooling them down. "Nice one, Sky." Skyla said, patting her brother's shoulder. But suddenly, the Stormhearts caught sight of something in the bushes. As they went to investigate, 3 darts were shot out from the bush and hit them in their necks. "Oh, that's…not…good." Skyler said before they fell unconscious.

Junko was in another part of the forest. "Okay, let's see what my powers can do." He said. He closed his eyes and held out his hands. Then he opened them and they glowed teal. Then he gave a loud yell and fired hundreds of plasma globs at the trees. "Whoa." He said as his plasma globs melted through the trees like acid. "Now that was awesome." Just then, there was a snapping noise. Junko turned to see a log strapped to a vine, only to be knocked out by it.

Riggorix took place where he found a fallen Talon skimmer. "Time to put my new power to the bigger test." He said. He closed his eye and placed his paw on the skimmer. Then he opened it and it glowed light grey. Just then, the metal on the skimmer began to creak. Then as Riggorix pulled his paw back, the metal peeled itself off the skimmer. And then, he slowly rotated his paw and moved his fingers. The metal started to twist and turn and reshape itself. And then, it changed into a pitchfork. "Impressive. This will be most helpful for dealing with Talons." Riggorix said. Just then, his ear twitched at hearing a noise. He turned to engage, but he was snatched on the neck by an electric control pole.

Stork, however, was just wondering about his part of the forest. "Why did they have me go out this far from the Condor? I can't possibly learn to control with what powers that little trinket has brought upon me." He muttered hysterically. "I mean, really. What if I electrocute myself? What if my innards electrify and turn into a barbeque party?" Just then, he heard a rustling noise. He fearfully looked around the forest, wondering who or what was lurking around out there. Just then, Argo appeared in front of him, hanging upside down from a tree. "Boo." He said simply. As Stork went pale, his eyes glowed lime green and lightning surged through his whole body. And then he fainted. "Heh. Too easy." Argo said as he dropped down from the tree. But as he went to pick up Stork's body, he got a shock when he touched him. "Ouch! Guess the Heart of Atmos gave this annoying Merb a real shocking personality." He said before putting on a pair of rubber gloves and picked up Stork's body.

Finn found a rather shadowy part of the forest. "Okay, this looks dark enough. Let's see if I can brighten up the place." He said. He closed his eyes and just stood still. Then he opened them and they glowed white. Then his entire body unleashed a bright light. "Wow! I've never had a bright mind, but this is even better!" He exclaimed. "I wonder what else I can do?" He reclosed his eyes and his light dimmed down. But then his body disappeared. "Whoa! I'm invisible now?! This just got even better! I can get the drop on anyone now!" Then he got an idea. "I wonder if I can sneak up on Piper?"

Piper was nearby in another section. "Alright. Let's see what I can do." She said. She closed her eyes and held up a powerless crystal. Then she opened her eyes and they glowed purple. And then the crystal began to glow in several different colors. "Wow. I had no idea I possessed such power. Almost seems…familiar." She said. Little did she know, the invisible Finn snuck up towards her and hid by a tree, silently chuckling. But before he could try anything, a tarp fell on top of Piper. Finn was surprised by this. And then, Argo walked up to Piper and tied the tarp, trapping her. Then he picked her up and carried her away as she struggled. "Oh no. Whoever this guy is, he's probably captured the others. Time to test my invisibility on him instead." Finn whispered as he follows Argo.

Later, Aerrow started to wake up. As he did, he saw that he was locked in a cage. He saw the other Storm Hawks with him as they started to wake up too. "What happened?" Junko asked. "We were ambushed. But by who?" Skyler asked. "By me." Argo's voice said. The Storm Hawks turned to see him walking up to them. "Wait. Aren't you Argo, the skilled blind huntsman?" Skyla asked. "At your service. And of course, you are the bait for today, Storm Hawks." Argo said. "But first, I'll be taking that." He took the Heart of Atmos and ripped it from Aerrow's neck. "Master Cyclonis will be most pleased." "I might've guessed you were working for Cyclonis." Riggorix growled. "Oh yes. And of course, she'll be most pleased that I've not only delivered her the Heart of Atmos, but the entire new Storm Hawks team." Argo said. "Well, I hate to break it to you, Argo, but you're one short of a complete set." Aerrow said. "What?! What're you talking about?" Argo asked. "You don't have all of us captured." Piper said. Now Argo was confused. "But I'm sure that I've captured all of the Storm Hawks." He said. "Nope. You missed one." Aria said.

On cue, the Heart of Atmos was snatched from Argo's grasp. "Hey!" Argo shouted, trying to grab the Heart as it was carried away by something unseen. But then, he got blasted by a blast of light. "That's what you get for messing with the Storm Hawks." Finn said as he dropped his invisibility to reveal himself. "Finn!" Aria cheered. Finn walked over and unlocked the cage door, freeing his friends. "You might wanna keep this tied in a tighter knot." Finn said, handing the Heart back to Aerrow. "You did a good job, Finn." Aerrow said as he tied the Heart back around his neck.

But then, Argo started to recover. "You know, you should look out better, Argo." Aerrow said. "Oh, you Storm Hawks really are a pain in the butt." Argo said, angry that he was outsmarted by children. Then he took out a radio. "Talons, prepare for battle!" He ordered. Then a squadron of Talons came out of the forest and got ready to fight. And then, Aerrow gently grasped the Heart of Atmos and it started to glow. "Skylight Unite!" He shouted. Then a bright light blinded the Talons as the Storm Hawks transformed into the Skylight Guardians. "What happened?" Argo asked, being blind. "Uh, something really bad, boss." One of the Talons said. "Now, let's see how you handle us as the Skylight Guardians, Argo." Aerrow said. Argo guessed that Aerrow changed into an adult after activating the Heart's power. "Talons, attack!" He shouted. But before they could do anything, Aerrow raised his hands and his eyes glowed pastel blue. And then, the air started to gather around Argo and the Talons. "What's he doing?" One Talon asked. Then the air created a giant tornado and sucked Argo and the Talons into its vortex, giving them a free wild ride. "And that's quite enough." Aerrow said, making the tornado disappear and Argo and the Talons fall to the ground hard. "That should knock the wind out of them for a while." Aria joked.

Argo quickly recovered as the Talons either wobbled with dizziness or were unconscious. "Oh, now you just gone and made me mad!" Argo yelled, drawing his Energy Sword. But before he could launch an attack, he found himself blocked by a barrier. "What?! What happened?!" He asked in anger. Aria had her hand up and it was engulfed in a pink mana circle. She had used her power to create a mana barrier around Argo. "Time to hit the road, buddy." She said, sending the barrier and Argo flying off into the forest.

The dizzy Talons fully recovered, grabbed their Energy Staffs and prepared to fight. But unfortunately for them, Riggorix walked up to 2 of them, grabbed their Staffs and reshaped them into metal balls. The 2 Talons were shocked by this. And then, Finn blasted them with a light blast. Skyla touched the ground with her hand and sent 3 Talons flying by popping an earth pillar from beneath them. Junko shouted and tossed a ball of plasma at a Talon, melting his Staff and a bit of his armor. "Uh, I gotta go pee." The Talon said, turning to retreat. "Careful. You're gonna get quite a hot seat out here." Skyler said, snapping his fingers and making a small ball of fire appear on the Talon's butt. The Talon smelled the burning cloth and felt the heat on his rump. He turned to see the fire and ran off screaming. "Time for your bath, boys." Sky said, blasting 3 more Talons with a wave of water. But Stork was having it bad. 4 Talons surrounded him. But then, as the pressure began to build inside him, so did his electric powers. As the Talons prepared to strike, Stork screamed and released the electricity, shocking them and knocking them out. Stork was surprised at what he did. "Oh. Well, that's that, I guess." He said.

Argo recovered as he pulled himself out from the bushes as the remaining Talons retreated. One of them stopped and helped Argo out of the bushes. "I think we better retreat, boss. Those Storm Hawks are overpowering us." The Talon said. "Ugh. Very well. Let's get out of here." Argo said. They raced back to their skimmers and took off.

The Storm Hawks watched them take off as they transformed back. "Well, that's that then. They'll think twice before going against the new and improved Skylight Guardian Storm Hawks." Finn boasted. "Doubtfully, Finn. Cyclonis won't give up easily now that she knows we have the Heart of Atmos." Aerrow said.

Afterwards, Argo returned to Cyclonia to report to Master Cyclonis. "Master Cyclonis, I regret to inform you that I have failed to get the Heart of Atmos for you." He said with a bow of regret. Master Cyclonis was very angry at this news, clutching her fist. But then she quickly calmed down. "As much as I wish to dispose of you, I am feeling generous. You did your best to get the Heart for me, Argo. Prepare for what's yet to come." She said, walking out. "Yes, Master Cyclonis." Argo said.

Cyclonis walked up to her tower to gaze out into the cloudy abyss. "I will have what was denied to you, Grandmother. I promise you this. I will have the power of the Heart of Atmos!" She vowed.

How's that for an original chapter? The Storm Hawks learn the history of the Heart of Atmos and the Skylight Guardians. But Master Cyclonis also sent a blind huntsman named Argo to capture the Storm Hawks and steal the Heart of Atmos. But thanks to Finn and their new powers, they were able to stop him. What else awaits the Storm Hawks on their mission to protect the Atmos? Leave a review if you want.
