Brief History:
Born on the winter island of Solitas in the New World and growing up in the nation's poor capital city of Mantle, James had a strong sense of justice and an iron determination to make something of himself in the world. This goal was what led him to the Navy as a way to both bring justice to pirates and other criminals as well as to better his homeland under his personal form of justice, Complete Justice.
In this vein he ate the Mettle-Mettle Fruit at some point which only furthered his drive and fueled his determination to achieve his goals while ensuring that he always saw a task through until it was completed or had been eliminated while being able to ignore inconveniences that would deter a normal person. All this combined ensured that he swiftly rose through the ranks until he reached the rank of Vice-Admiral at the age of 25 and held it for a decade before being promoted to Admiral when the next vacancy came up 6 years ago.
During his time in the Navy his notable accomplishments include the forming of the Ace Ops, one of several elite special forces units with a fearsome and successful reputation and resolving an incident that was so bad the government covered it up but at the cost of most of the right side of his body. This is not known to the general public, however, as what he lost was replaced with the most advanced cybernetics known at the time by Dr. Vegapunk and a Mantle based scientist who is one of the few that Dr. Vegapunk considers close to his pre Brain-Brain Fruit level.
However, one blemish on his record in his opinion is not personally overseeing the retrieval of the Beast-Beast Fruit, model: Tyrant and allowing it to be eaten 18 months prior to the events on the Sabaody Archipelago. He is only upset at the failure to retrieve it, not at the mass extermination of the people on the island that was ordered as part of the retrieval. He was also a known mentor to Vice-Admiral Najenda and took her defection personally, which given that she recruited the man who are the Devil Fruit he failed to retrieve has only added to his fuel to bring her to justice and he disagrees with Admiral Shirokami's stance regarding the Adaptive Monster.
