xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Boundary Forest, 11:56 a.m. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Boundary Forest, a location in Fiore known for its vast populace of monsters and creatures of large and small stature contained within its miles of thick trees. Chased by a massive tan pig-like monster covered in black spots was a man with a black mouth mask with a large lock of purple hair on one side, a puffy white jacket with a series of gray pouches, black pants and black boots.

"Guh!" The masked man grunted as he sprinted past tree after tree to avoid the massive pig monster trailing behind him. "Uwah! Damn it! Where're you guys!?" He exclaimed loudly.

"Duck!" A male voice said as the masked man proceeded to fall forward, placing his hands on the back of his head.

Out from the nearby foliage was a series of arrows, flying past the downed masked man at breakneck speed and piercing the pig monster in the eyes as it squealed in pain before falling onto its belly. Stepping out from the bushes was a gaunt man with green skin, claw-like hands, white spikey hair with a short ponytail down the back of his head and sporting white robes with tribal patterns, a long black cape, an eye mask bandana and holding a crossbow.

"What the hell?! Where were you?!" The masked man as he stood up and turned around to look at the dead monster before turning back towards his companion.

"I was searching! We said we were splitting up to search for the damn things." The lanky man said in response to his partners agitation.

"Turns out that was a crappy idea! I get to looking and all I find is some massive hogs!" The masked man complained.

"Not my fault you came out here with just a bunch of throwing knives!" The lanky man retorted.

"Will both of you shut your traps?!" A third male voice shouted as the two men turned to their left sides.

Approaching them was a well-built man with flowing white hair with a red mask with a long round-tipped nose on his face, sporting a long-sleeved short shirt with exposed midriff, a spiral-patterned loincloth and a ring of large beads around his neck. Around his belly button was a red guild logo that looked like paw print with a snake coiled around it.

"How much longer are you two going to complain in the middle of this dangerous place?!" The long-nosed mask wearing man said as the others stopped bickering for a moment as he motioned for them to follow him.

Running through the forest for several yards, the trio of men stopped at a clearing that was outside of the woods. Taking a moment to breathe, the mask wearing man sat on the ground as the lanky man put his hand on a nearby tree, bending forward and exhaling heavily.

"Urgh! This is excruciating!" The mask man said in a whiny tone.

"No kidding..." The lanky man said in agreement.

"Lagarto... Mascar... Nothing but whiners you two..." The long-nosed mask wearing man thought while looking at the lanky man and then at the mask sporting man.

"We should have waited until the stupid wizards showed up..." Mascar said as he sat up.

"Oh shut up, we could've handled it on our own!" Lagarto loudly proclaimed. "We're members of Chimera's Paw! The greatest treasure hunter's guild in Fiore!" He continued.

"Yes... And that would be an indisputable fact if we could find that treasure somewhere in Boundary Forest!" The long-nosed mask wearing man said in an angry tone.

"Guh... Yeah..." Lagarto said with a grunt before scratching the back of his head in frustration.

"Do you know why we're out here trying to find this secret treasure? And why we even commissioned the wizard guilds to come out here to help us?" The long-nosed mask wearing man asked towards his comrades.

"Enlighten us again, Nariz..." Mascar said as he glanced at Nariz.

"Because this treasure that we're looking for is a group of six elemental Lacrima that were lost somewhere in this forest and our biggest rivals, Sylph Labyrinth, have failed time and time again to find them. Meaning this is our time! Our opportunity! To finally put our guild on the top of the treasure hunting world!" Nariz said, explaining to his comrades.

"We get that... Then why are we putting out flyers for outside help from wizards?" Lagarto said as Nariz scratched his head.

"Because this forest is enormous!" Nariz screamed, loud enough for several birds and avian-like creatures to start flying into the sky from being startled. "If we want to succeed, we need to work smarter, not harder." He continued with an angry look behind his long-nosed mask.

"I second that notion." Mascar muttered. "Better some dumbass wizards get mauled to death out here than me just for some treasure." He thought as Lagarto approached Nariz.

"Hey..." Largarto said with a quiet voice.

"What?" Nariz replied.

"We're not sharing the treasure with the wizards that are coming, yeah?" Lagarto asked as Nariz stared at his fellow treasure hunter.

"They'll think we are... But once we find it, we'll leave them high and dry out here to let the monsters sort them out." Nariz said with a dark tone as Lagarto smirked.

"Good..." Lagarto said with a nod. "I ain't sharing my earnings with some outsiders..." He thought.

"Just as soon as they arrive- ah." Nariz thought as he turned his head down towards the path leading to where they were and noticing a pair of individuals approaching. "That must be them..." He said as the other treasure hunters turned their heads, seeing Bernard, Corvus, Vulp and Anatoli atop his floating Stellanium ball.

"Hmmmmm..." Bernard mumbled as he refused to look at Anatoli. "Can't believe I'm on a job with this guy right now..." He mentally complained.

"Urghhhh..." Anatoli muttered in annoyance. "Seriously don't want to be out here..." He thought with aggravation.

"You two still ain't talking?" Corvus asked as he and Vulp looked at the two wizards, still choosing not to talk to one another. "Guess not..." The crow thought with a shake of his head.

"That them?" Mascar said as he finally got back up to his feet.

"Think so... Remember, act friendly." Nariz said towards his guildmates. "Let these idiots handle all the work." He thought with a smirk underneath his mask. "Hey! Over here!" Nariz said loudly as he waved his arms to draw Bernard, Anatoli and the Celestial Spirits over to them.

"Hi." Bernard said with a calm tone towards the group after approaching. "You guys the client for this treasure hunt?" He asked.

"Yes! Yes!" Nariz said with a welcoming tone. "Nice to meet you both." He said while extending a hand for a handshake.

"Howdy..." Anatoli said with a disgruntled tone as he got off his ball, shaking Nariz' hand as Lagarto and Mascar approached. "Motley crew right here." He thought as he looked at all three of the treasure hunters.

"Nice to meet you..." Bernard said as he shook hands with Mascar. "Guys got a guild logo on his chest." He thought as he looked over at Nariz' chest and noticed his guild logo.

"Likewise." Mascar said. "Skinny guy with a dumb hat. And a shirtless guy with a monkey face and a ball. These guys are so dead..." He thought, judging the Psycho Circus duo at first glance.

"Don't look like these two will be much help. But as long as they're out combing Boundary Forest for the treasure, that's all that matters." Lagarto thought.

"So, shall we jump right into it?" Nariz said as Bernard and Anatoli looked at the trio.

"Please." Corvus said as the trio looked up at the talking crow.

"Neat bird." Lagarto said with a casual tone as Corvus frowned in response.

"Don't act on your urge to clarify..." Bernard said towards the Celestial Spirit. "Anyway, yeah. The flyer said we're supposed to help look for a treasure hidden in Boundary Forest?" He continued.

"Indeed." Nariz said. "Somewhere deep in these woods is a high value series of objects and we would like your help trying to find them." He said.

"In Boundary Forest?" Bernard questioned. "Dangerous place and yet the payout's ridiculously tiny..." He thought with skepticism.

"The payout is only for twenty-thousand Jewels." Anatoli thought, also perplexed by the job. "The flyer said the treasure would be split between us and the client... Or I guess "clients" is the correct term." He said as he looked at the other two guys.

"...You sound like there's a problem with the arrangement." Lagarto said with a threatening tone as Anatoli stepped forward to confront the lanky green skinned man.

"Whoa! Whoa!" Nariz said as Mascar put his hand on Lagarto's shoulder. "Don't start crap! We need the extra lookers!" He thought with serious eyes on his face as Lagarto calmed down. "Sorry about him, he's just a bit... Volatile." Nariz said with an apologetic tone.

"Hey, chimp boy! Take it easy!" Corvus said as he flew in front of Anatoli. "It's not exactly a good thing that I am the level-headed one here so just hold off on the attitude until we're back home!" The crow explained as Anatoli bit his lip in response.

"Before things get out of hand, let's just discuss what we're looking for." Nariz said as he stood in-between the Psycho Circus wizards and the Chimera's Paw treasure hunters. "What we're looking for is a group of six elemental Lacrima orbs." He said as he snapped his fingers toward Mascar, prompting him to reach into one of his pouches and pull out a piece of paper with a picture on it.

On the paper was an image of six round orbs, each with a symbol on them that denoted what they represent. One sported a symbol shaped like a mushroom cloud on it, another had the image of a fireball, one had a lightning bolt, another had a snowflake symbol, one had images of multiple droplets and the last one had the letter "R" on it that appeared to be melting.

"Lacrima?" Bernard reiterated.

"Correct." Nariz replied. "We're looking to obtain these for... Reasons." He said. "Namely notoriety and profit..." Nariz thought.

"So... What's the story on these things?" Anatoli asked as he grabbed the paper out of his Mascar's hand.

"From what we've ascertained, they were supposed to be delivered to the royal family of Fiore a long time ago. They were meant as a gift from a small independent province that were looking to get a trade agreement with the kingdom." Lagarto said while folding his arms.

"...And the delivery boy went through Boundary Forest? Why?" Bernard said, unsure of what he was just told.

"My guess is that they probably didn't know they had entered into this dangerous place. Tried to shortcut their way through and then became beast chow." Nariz said.

"Idiot." Anatoli quietly commented.

"Don't talk about yourself that way." Bernard said while not looking at Anatoli as the chimp-like man turned towards his fellow guildmember with a rage filled expression.

"Say that to my face, you douchebag!" Anatoli exclaimed as he grabbed Bernard by the collar.

"What did you call me?!" Bernard replied in similar anger as he and Anatoli got in each other's faces.

"Oh, come on you two! Knock it off!" Corvus said as he flew overhead of the two arguing wizards, Vulp attempting to separate the two by getting between them. "Why the hell the hottie brunette sent these two out on a job when they're like this, I'll never know..." The crow thought in frustration.

"Seems to me they're not on the same page." Mascar whispered towards Nariz.

"Looks like it... But who gives a rat's ass. As long as they can find the treasure..." Nariz thought, uncaring from the sight of the two wizards' confrontational attitude towards one another. "Hey, can we get back to business?" He said, catching Anatoli and Bernards attention.

"Yeah..." Anatoli said with a disgruntled tone. "So... Where is this thing?" He asked while folding his arms.

"We don't know." Lagarto replied.

"Do you have a general idea?" Bernard said, growing curious.

"We scouted the first six or seven miles inward from where we currently are." Mascar said.

"And?" Corvus said.

"Nothing worth noting." Lagarto replied.

"Is it in a chest? Is it buried? In a cave? Come on, we need something to go on here if we're going to be roaming aimlessly around this beast filled woods all day and night?!" Anatoli exclaimed.

"All we know is that it is in Boundary Forest, it's a rare pile of Lacrima and it's worth a lot." Nariz said. "We'll do a decent sixty-forty split. We keep four, you guys get two plus the money we offered." He continued.

"...That's not sounding all that "decent."' Corvus said.

"Each of the Lacrima is worth one hundred thousand Jewels each. So, two of them between you both should be a decent payout plus the little fee from the flyer." Nariz said as Bernard and Anatoli glanced at each other.

"...Camilla isn't letting us back in the guildhall unless we kill time on this job..." Bernard said as he turned his head towards Anatoli who rolled his eyes in response.

"Then I'll make this quick. I can cover more ground by flying..." Anatoli said as he walked over to his ball and sat down on it.

"Uhhhh... I can fly too, you know?" Corvus commented.

"Yeah, but you'll be too busy protecting his stupid ass." Anatoli said before pointing at Bernard, the beanie sporting wizards' eyes widening in response before Anatoli took off into the air towards the woods.

"I wish that ball of his was made of rubber like the old one so Zaphkiel could stab it again..." Bernard thought with a twitch in his eye. "Corvus, Vulp... Let's go..." He said with an agitated tone as he started to walk through the trees, leaving behind the treasure hunters.

"Well, guess we should get started looking too- guh!" Mascar said as he begun to walk before Nariz grabbed him by the back of his coat, stopping him.

"We are done searching for the day... Let the wizards take care of searching for a while." Nariz said while staring in the direction of where Bernard and his pets walked off towards.

"Run! Run! Run!" Bernard screamed as he ran past the trees, chased by a large tan pig-like monster with black spots as Vulp was alongside him.

Turning his tail into a blade, Vulp started to slash at trees to make room for Bernard to run away as the pig-like monster rammed through the felled logs the fox Celestial Spirit was leaving behind. Looking on ahead, Bernard and Vulp's eyes widened at the familiar sight of Zaphkiel sprinting towards them.

"Dodge!" Bernard screamed as he jumped to the side and Vulp in the opposite direction as Zaphkiel leaped towards the face of the pig monster.

With the spiked tips of her winged antlers, Zaphkiel stabbed the pig monster directly in the face, causing the monster to recoil in pain and land on its back, the angelic deer now on top of it and repeatedly stabbing the pig-like creature with her antlers. Looking on, Bernard and Vulp stared in silent horror from the sight of Zaphkiel proceeding to murder the big monster and absorbing the blood from the creature into the masks on her sides for sustenance.

"That is still really disturbing..." Bernard commented as Vulp nodded in agreement. "Don't even know where to look for these stupid things..." He thought as he looked around. "Baurs." Bernard said as he stomped his foot a few times, the Earth Elemental sticking her head out of the ground.

"I have had zero luck with finding the treasure underground." Baurs said with a calm tone.

"Keep looking." Bernard said as Baurs proceeded to go back underground. "...This is going to take forever." He thought as he looked up towards the sky.

In the air, Anatoli was channeling wind around his body as a series of flying green pelican-like creatures was flying around him with hostility.

"Hia!" Anatoli exclaimed as he fired a series of wind blades from around himself, heading for the monsters and slicing into them, causing some to fall towards the ground and others to fly away in fear of being hit. "Yeah! You better run!" He shouted in a frustrated tone as Corvus flew over to him.

"Yo, chimpy." Corvus said as Anatoli was looking away from the crow Celestial Spirit. "You have luck finding these Lacrima?" He asked.

"Does it look like I have had any luck!?" Anatoli replied in anger. "The last few hours, all I've done is fight stupid bird things!" He thought.

"Oh, for the love of- will you calm your ass?! Are you going to be acting like a dick all week and-" Corvus shouted until Anatoli cut him off.

"I am not weak!" Anatoli screamed as he floated over to Corvus in anger, the crow Celestial Spirit backing away slightly in surprise.

"That's not what I said!" Corvus replied loudly as Anatoli made a troubled face for a brief moment before turning away from Corvus.

"God damn stupid- hmmm?" Anatoli said quietly to himself until looking over at a massive tree and catching something unexpecting.

Hanging off a tree branch was a large human-shaped figure that had a knight helmet on its head and a brown cloak over its body. Suddenly, the creature let go of the tree branch upon locking eyes with Anatoli and headed towards the ground below as Anatoli looked on in confusion and suspicion.

"The heck was that...?" Anatoli thought as Corvus flew in front of the shirtless wizard's face.

"You going to float there all day or are you going to help me look for the dumb treasure?" Corvus questioned with a bothered expression.

"Uh... Uhm- yeah." Anatoli muttered as he followed behind Corvus through the air.

Trekking through the woods was the Chimera's Paw treasure hunters of Nariz, Lagarto and Mascar with the latter holding a lantern to light the way in the dead of night and the eyes of Nariz' long nosed mask glowing in the dark.

"You see the wizards?" Lagarto said as he looked around. "Or any monsters?" He continued.

"Nothing as far as I can see." Nariz said.

"And thank goodness for that, I only have throwing knives and they're not worth jack against half the things out here." Mascar complained.

"Like I said earlier, get a better weapon dude..." Lagarto said with half-closed eyes.

"Wait." Nariz said as he put his arms up. "There they are." He said as he and his fellow treasure hunters ducked down, turning off their lights and watched a campfire from afar with Anatoli sitting on his ball and Bernard removing some his capture pins from his beanie, both slightly scuffed up from a long day of roaming around Boundary Forest.

Expelling some of his magical energy into the four pins in his hand, a magic circle appeared as four Dragonoid golems appeared, standing completely still. With assistance from Vulp, splitting his tail into a pair of furry hands, Bernard and the fox pushed one of the Dragonoid golems over to a corner of their campsite.

"You could help him, you know?" Corvus said as he was perched on a nearby felled log, looking at Anatoli.

"Shut up..." Anatoli thought with his arms folded.

"Grrrrguh." Bernard grunted as he started to push another Dragonoid to another spot.

"Why are you setting up the "lizard furniture?"' Corvus questioned.

"Figured we could use them to ward off some things." Bernard replied. "Zaphkiel is on the loose killing things for us and Baurs should be fine searching underground... Unless there are gigantic worms down there... No, don't think about it." He thought with a headshake before setting up one last Dragonoid and then going over to where Corvus was.

"This job sucks..." Corvus said.

"Urgh..." Bernard grunted as he sat down on the log. "I'm guessing you had zero luck...?" He asked while hunching forward and putting his hands on his cheeks in a disgruntled manner.

"Didn't even know what we're supposed to be looking for. Those three weirdos who gave us this job didn't even give us much in terms of specifics." Corvus said towards Bernard.

"You notice they had a guild logo, the one guy with the long-nosed mask?" Bernard said as he looked over at Anatoli, no response as he sat on his ball with his eyes facing down towards the ground. "Didn't recognize it as one from our guild league. So, they're probably not wizards..." He continued. "Maybe they're from a different kind of guild... Like mercenaries or treasure hunters." Bernard thought.

"Shit... They might be on to us..." Mascar said quietly toward Nariz.

"Shhh! It doesn't matter, keep it down." Nariz said towards his comrades as they all kept their eyes on the Psycho Circus wizards. "Even if they know we are treasure hunters from a guild, it won't mean anything until they find the treasure." He thought.

"What's a "guild league?"' Corvus questioned.

"A guild league is an organized association of the wizard guilds, almost like all the guilds fall under banners or whatever. Pretty much all of the registered wizard guilds in Fiore are part of a league that the Magic Council has in lists connecting them like Fairy Tail, Blue Pegasus and Quatro Cerberus are all in the same league together. The guild masters of each guild tend to have a monthly meeting to discuss business and "goings-on" and junk." Bernard explained as Vulp approached the beanie sporting wizard. "My father attends them when he's not just-" He continued until suddenly getting cut off when he noticed Anatoli stood up from his ball and began to walk away from the camp.

"Whoa! Where do you think you're going?" Corvus exclaimed as Bernard and Vulp watched Anatoli attempt to leave.

"I am going to go look for the stupid treasure because sitting around here doing nothing is bothering me..." Anatoli said as he looked back at the trio, causing Bernard to stand up.

"In the pitch-black dark? Real smart, "banana brain." You don't even know where to look." Bernard said with an insulting tone as Anatoli bit his lip.

"Yeah! "In the pitch-black dark!" Because I'd rather not sit here in a monster filled forest with your obnoxious ass!" Anatoli exclaimed as he turned to face Bernard, walking up to him to get in his face.

"You know what... Screw it!" Bernard thought as he locked eyes with Anatoli, his face twitching.

Forming a fist with his left hand, Bernard struck Anatoli in the chin, causing the shirtless wizard to take steps back and clutch his mouth with his hand from the pain. With the Celestial Spirits eyes widening in shock and the hidden Chimera's Paw treasure hunters watching on with mild amusement, Anatoli looked down at his hand and saw blood before turning his attention toward Bernard.

"You want to fight?! Bring it on, dickhead!" Bernard loudly shouted as Anatoli made an angry yet confused face.

"Kid?!" Corvus exclaimed loudly. "What the hell?!" The crow said further.

"Keep out of this! I know what I am doing!" Bernard said as Anatoli stared at him. "Now fight me! Come on!" He said while putting up hands up.

"What the- I'm not fighting you!" Anatoli shouted in response to Bernard. "I'd kick his ass up and down this forest. I ain't fighting a handicapped person..." He thought.

"What?! You got a problem with fighting me?!" Bernard said as he walked up to Anatoli and lightly pushed him.

"...Don't do that..." Anatoli said as he pointed at Bernard.

"Do what?... This?" Bernard said as he put his hands up and pushed Anatoli again.

"Hold on a minute, kid!" Corvus said as he and Vulp became nervous at what was transpiring.

"Do that one more time... And I swear to-" Anatoli said with a rage in his voice before getting cut off by Bernard pushing Anatoli a third time.

His hostility boiling to a breaking point, Anatoli rushed at Bernard and tackled him to the ground. On top of Bernard, Anatoli begin to strike him multiple time in the face with his fist, causing blood to spurt from his mouth and nose as Bernard put his arms up to try to block.

"Hey! Hey!" Corvus said as he flapped his wings to take flight.

"Don't get- igh! Involved!" Bernard ordered towards the Celestial Spirits to prevent Corvus and Vulp from interfering with their fight.

"But-" Corvus said as he and Vulp stopped moving as Bernard put his hands on Anatoli's face, pushing him off of him before getting up and lunging at Anatoli, the shirtless chimp-like young man putting the beanie sporting wizard in a front headlock.

"Guagh!" Bernard grunted as he tried to push Anatoli some more to no avail as Anatoli's physical strength was greater than his. "Come on! Come on!" He thought in frustration.

While still clutching Bernards head, Anatoli lifted his leg to hit Bernard in the skull with his knee before pushing Bernard away and onto the ground. Rushing back to his feet once again, Bernard tried to swing his fist to punch Anatoli, but Anatoli blocked Bernard's hand with his own.

"Knock it off, Bernie! Your scrawny ass ain't beating me in a fight!" Anatoli shouted.

"Grrr!" Bernard grumbled as he made a fist with his other hand and tried to punch him one more time, Anatoli ducking the strike and then punching Bernard in the stomach. "Mrguhfh!" He exclaimed as he clutched at his gut, recoiling in pain as he fell to his knees.

"...If I struck his head any further, his brain would become mush... And Camilla would kill me..." Anatoli said while breathing heavily. "Now... Stay the fuck- guh!" He said until Bernard stood up and headbutted Anatoli in the chin, causing the shirtless wizard to fall backward. "Argh! Owwghh..." Anatoli moaned in pain as Bernard fell back down onto his knees.

"Orguh!" Bernard muttered in similar pain as he moved one of his hands off his gut and onto the top of his head.

"...Wish I had popcorn right now..." Lagarto said with a smirk on his face.

"With a bit of caramel on it." Mascar said in response.

"...Gross." Nariz said, judging his companion.

"What the hell is wrong with you two!?" Corvus said as he flew over both Bernard and Anatoli, the former laying on his chest with a hand on his pacemaker and the other on his stomach as Vulp was checking on his master and the latter laying on his back with his hands on his chin, both aching from the damage they had done to each other. "Guess I should be grateful neither of them landed in the campfire..." The crow thought with exasperation from seeing the two Psycho Circus spontaneously brawling with one another.

"Urrgrghh..." Bernard moaned as the fox and crow checked on the pair.

"Owww..." Anatoli muttered as the treasure hunters quietly watched on.

"Isn't this going to affect our ability to find the Lacrima?" Mascar asked towards Nariz.

"It might... However, it was entertaining, don't you think?" Nariz said with a smirk under his mask.

"Was well worth the- whoa, whoa. Shhhhh..." Lagarto said until he pointed a finger in the direction past the campsite where Anatoli and Bernard were after seeing some bushes rustling. "What's that?" He said as the others looked on.

"He-hey... Anatoli...?" Bernard said as he turned over onto his back, breathing heavily.

"...What... Bernie?" Anatoli replied, also breathing heavily.

"What the heck, are they trying to have a conversation after all that?" Corvus thought as Vulp looked at Bernard.

"...You... Good?" Bernard asked in a tired tone.

"...I don't know..." Anatoli said as he and Bernard stared at the stars in the sky.

"...Want another... Round...?" Bernard said slowly.

"...Nah..." Anatoli said.

As the two wizards quietly stared at the sky, Corvus and Vulp turned to look at one another, unsure of what just happened between Anatoli and Bernard. Unbeknownst to the Psycho Circus group, the Chimera's Paw treasure hunters watching them turned their attention towards a massive figure wearing a knight's helmet and dark cloak, quietly watching the duo as well behind the trees on the opposite side of the treasure hunters.

"Is that...?" Mascar asked.

"There it is..." Lagarto said.

"Yup... The guardian of the treasure..." Nariz said with a serious tone.

Author's Note: (Okay, I'll start by skipping the narrator part and just get down to the nitty-gritty. I am sorry for the lack of updates in the past month, several things were occupying my personal time aside from work related things. One was a video game that I was dedicating free time towards, and the other was me actually getting pretty sick and needing to see somebody to get a med for. I am fine now, don't worry, I'm just being semi-transparent, but I am sorry for the gap of time where nothing was coming out. I was NOT on a vacation of any sort from writing, I just couldn't get around to it. So, I apologize.)
