Just a few words were enough for me to run out of air due to the sterile environment that existed here. I unconsciously saved myself by generating a "Helmet" of air around my head with the help of magic.
The languages of strangers echoed in my ears. I wasn't scared, I was more shocked that it had worked, but as I concentrated around me, looking the snow-white ground... snow...
~"Of course, the snow had to go somewhere, and it went here"~
I stood as still as I could, raising my hands to those who pointed their guns at me, repeating words over and over again.
Words, and shouting. Me being a person who doesn't take well to noise, I was getting more anxious by the second. Leaving me with only one option: scream.
"Fus!" A loud shout of power unsettled the Quarian guards in front of me, disarming them and giving me time to flee.
Only as I turned to run did I see many more... frightened, angry. Between women and men, children in their bubbles and teenagers, they all looked at me and turned away from the path where I was heading.
Where am I going? I don't know, but I recognized the place instantly, it was where Tali's future trial would take place.
Future? Or past...? I didn't even know what day it was, what events had already happened. Maybe Shepard is dead, maybe he's just now being named Wraith, maybe it's FemShep.
~"FemShep, mmmm... a romance wouldn't go amiss"
"Think of something else!" I exclaimed, going through door after door, circumventing security with little touches of electricity since I didn't have an Omni-Tool, locking up with ice so I wouldn't slow them down. Impossible because their weapons were shattering my ice walls.
And without protection of any kind, several projectiles grazed me.
How do you fight a trained military force? With help.
As I rounded a corner, I thought what I needed most, I thought of my old allies from many battles...
"Atronach elementals, come!"
I uttered the words, but the reality was a much more disappointing, here there is no plane of Oblivion.
Oblivion, the place where the summonings come from, did not exist in this universe. Neither did the Remembrance of Souls. So I laughed at my disbelief and idiocy "Of course, it was very obvious..."
With no help of any kind and accumulating a large number of opponents at my back, direct confrontation was the way.
"Bound Dagger" I exclaimed, using an invisibility spell as I turned around and headed straight for them.
The sound of surprise echoed through the corridors, and after a couple of words I didn't understand, the group made a circle to cover each other's backs.
Taking advantage of this, I moved as far away as I could, avoiding a direct confrontation.
~"They are Quarians, my favorite species. I would never harm them"
Now calmer and with the invisibility magic active, I walked little by little avoiding my footsteps to be heard. I was still looking for a way out, a shuttle to get out.
But there were several problems: The Nomad Fleet may be too far from the Citadel, I don't understand technology, there is no Omni-Tool and being invisible consumes me a lot of magic, so my disguise had its minutes counted.
Almost like a miracle, the solution appeared in front of me as I entered what appeared to be a ship launching area.
~"The Pilgrimage! Of course!"
So many Quarians making their preparations to be able to "pass into adulthood" as they put it. None here seemed to have been alerted to the presence of an intruder (Me) in the flotilla, as preparations continued.
Amidst all the crowd of Quarians, I could see her, recognizable though she was among millions with her same color costume or figure... Tali'Zorah nar Rayya
~"Rayya... that means you are just leaving. I find myself on Rayya a few days before Shepard finds the Beacon."~
"Or so I think..." I whispered, moving as far away from the crowd, but heading towards Tali.
Already being very close, I decided to hide under the Honorata, waiting for them to come up one at a time to find a place to hide inside the ship and get out.
Listening to their conversations would be irrelevant since I didn't understand anything at all, but watching them interact was amazing.
They weren't just standing around, occasionally moving their hands. They had this close, shy, fearful interaction like any species that wanders away from home.
Everything was beautiful until the moment I had to board the ship, jumping in just at the moment where everyone was already on board.
Behind me, the hatch was slowly closing, showing how the relatives of those aboard the Honorata were saying goodbye, among them being Shala'Raan.
With the hatch now closed, I felt the magical wear and tear more and more, alerting me that it would be visible at any moment. So with the Lightfoot spell, I walked behind the group of 3, until I reached the piloting area of the ship.
Everything looked so worn out, as if its glory days of the ship were long gone, doomed to be used as mere flying junk.
Now, sitting in the darkest corner of the place, I was immersed in my thoughts while in the distance I watched through the window the stars pass by. Each one a world, another different place... or so I was told.
The power to save everyone was in my hands, to be able to prevent deaths, or wars, but a part of me wanted the action to happen.
~"A good fight is what I need"
I thought and thought about the answers to the problems that lay ahead, but an intrusive idea came to my mind.
~"2 years to go, you have plenty of time"
Leaving everything to the last minute, one of my worst enemies. How to solve it? Go little by little, think of the first person I want to save, and that's...
~"Benezia"~
Indoctrinated by the Sovereign, her mind was under Saren's will.
Try to memorize what to do, pretending to write on the ground with her finger, muttering under her breath.
"Telepathy by magic and Indoctrination, two different things with the same purpose. Except that Indoctrination degenerates the mind bit by bit. Will I be able to reverse it? But I'm getting ahead of myself, will even Shepard accept me into the Normandy? I'm young, I have no relation to the Alliance... Hell, I literally don't exist in this universe."
I was talking about the odds, what would happen if I go to such a place or stay put: If I go to the Citadel, C-Seg will keep me under arrest for not having a source of information on me.
Going to Illos in itself is already impossible without a vehicle, and it won't do me any good. I don't want to be the center of attention for stopping a Reaper invasion.
Omega... is it a good place, to make a name for myself or... to challenge Aria? That would be a suicide.
Tuchanka, really?
Eden Prime.. good start. Tali is just leaving for her Pilgrimage so I'm more or less up to date with the happenings.
I took a deep breath, putting Invisibility aside to relax when I realized that my presence was still undetected. I could only lie down sitting against the wall like a punished child, watching and learning how they did to pilot the ship.
~"Eden Prime will be"~
Now I just needed a way to get there, and one of the ones that came up was to kidnap a Batarian and force him to take me.
The language barrier wouldn't matter here, they're Batarians... a jolt to prove who was in charge would be enough.
And so, with a plan in mind, I stayed on the ship, where the hours did not seem to have a meaning.
I saw how they came and went from the control station, some heading to the dining room or to sleep, but I didn't move at all, I was in a very... useless place for them, a corner.
Only when 2 out of 3 were asleep or distracted, I moved with a spell I learned, which I called: "Steps from the Past". Which allows me to walk a certain distance, and instantly return to the starting point of the spell.
So I discovered that the ship was well provisioned, had a decontamination chamber, a very small but well-stocked medical cabin, cabins and dining room.
I took the liberty of grabbing some sheets of paper in case the situation required it. Spell scrolls would come in handy in dangerous situations.
~A few days later~
The activity on the ship was greater than on other days, running from here to here, gathering important information only when Tali required it.
~"I remember this, here they finally go down to the ice planet and meet the Geth"~
The small group seemed calm about the situation, maybe Tali's curiosity to know why the Geth are leaving the Perseus Veil overshadowed the rest, rushing the others to be ready for a landing at the right time.
Maybe as luck would have it, or as a routine that she doesn't appreciate, Tali watched a video of her father, where he sent her good luck and stressed to her how important it was what she had to bring to live up to his name.
I had left my corner to get a good look at this moment, using Invisibility magic as a precaution.
Tali looked relaxed the video, as if it was something that was clear to her since childhood and that was marked every day of her life.
Just as the video was closing, a blue-clad Quarian named Keenah'breizh appeared on the threshold connecting this room to the hallway, regretting the interruption and asking if it was an important video from the admiral.
"Not really" Tali replied, almost waiting for one last message, a message that showed affection, but not "If you've listened to one lecture from my father, you've already listened to all of them"
I remembered every dialogue of the comic where they met with the Geth, but now it gave me a new perspective because I didn't know anything about their language.
Kenaah warned Tali about the suspicions she had, worried about how she was right about synthetics. They are leaving the Veil of Perseus.
And so Tali seemed to order the landing, where it would be the safest but least remote place so as not to lose sight of the Geth.
Preparing their weapons and suit functions, Kenaah and Tali headed to the pressurized gate, followed cautiously by me, obviously.
I knew that just as I was leaving, I would walk away from them to find a way to Eden Prime.
Stepping on nine again, the hit of the cold and blizzard on clothes reminded me a lot of the lands of Skyrim, causing nostalgia despite being only one day far (Very far) from there.
I was wondering... if the Turians and Batarians can be without helmets here, also the humans?
I undid the spell so I could breathe, causing an icy wind to hit hard.
Marveling at the sky and horizon, I just realized that it was my first time on a planet other than Earth.
~"This is beautiful, it's another place, it's... another opportunity"~
I stretched out my arms and spun around on myself, gradually filling up with excitement for my new adventure. When I noticed that I was alone, I deactivated the Invisibility spell by recharging my magic again.
I thought, looking from side to side for a sign of life other than Tali and Kenaah, who were already far from my position.
"Detect Life" I pronounced the spell, looking into the distance as a group of people were underground.
~"The mercenary and the Geth, they must be there. It's also a way to leave"
Taking long steps due to the depth of the snow, I was slowly making my way to the cave, alert of any threat Geth.
I knew I was very close when voices incomprehensible to me were heard, but it was obvious that one was angry and the other scared.
Faced with the relentless cold, I was forced to run to take shelter at the enemy's base. To bad luck, I slipped down that big hole, surfing with my butt on the ice of the lower layers of the surface.
A dry thump was heard when I stopped, creating an echo that for sure can be heard on the other side of the cave.
Almost instantly, a Batarian was walking around pointing his gun at the place of origin of the noise. They had already been alerted of unknown presence (Tali and Kenaah) so I would not hesitate to kill.
With a blanket of Frost over me, I camouflaged myself between the incoming blizzard and the white walls of the cave.
When he didn't find anything, he turned around, distracting himself with his Omni-Tool to break the news that there was nothing here (I didn't understand him, but I guessed it)
~"Oh no, if there is anyone here"~
With a Bound Battleaxe between my hands, I gave a strong blow to the head, almost splitting it in two.
The murder was instantaneous, as was another spell that would help me get out of here.
"Raise Up Dead"
Apparently, only the spells that come from the Oblivion plane don't work in any universe other than Skyrim, so I could forget about the Atronach and entities of the Soul Cairn.
As I watched the corpse slowly pull itself together, I examined its armor for something to help me, even without knowing what specifically to look for.
"Very well... activate your Omni-Tool" I ordered the Batarian, and he heeded instantly.
~"Of course, I don't understand him but he does to me"~
Then I gave him the order to call his boss by his Omni-Tool to let him know that he would be on guard since he didn't find me, so as not to raise suspicions.
With a few movements and incomprehensible words, he did so.
"Now guide me to a shuttle, it's time to leave for Eden Prime"
My lack of knowledge in this technology made me dependent on the corpse, he being my only key to get out.
Now with a "guardian", we went up the exit of the cave, without worries since any Geth who saw us would recognize him as an ally, and since he wasn't attacking me, me too. Although his face looked unrecognizable from the cut and the blood.
It didn't take long until we reached a snow plain with a few shuttles parked.
The snow had reached a level where the base could not be seen, and the top was filled with more and more snow. So without further delay, we got on the one that looked the best, and I ordered him to give me a little tour of the vehicle, just the most basic.
I learned how to open and close the door, accelerate and reverse, activate the turbo and the weapons of this car.
I also ordered him to give me his gloves and gun so I could use it. The gloves were a little big on me but they would do.
I had no problems with the weapon, it was an Avenger that weighed the same as some swords I've handled before so it was perfect, the detail was the recoil since I've only used bows until that moment and cutting swords.
~"Since I'm going to the sharp weapons..."~
I moved my right hand, shook it, squeezed all over the sides trying to activate the Omni-Tool, but I had no luck.
"I don't think that not staying is the problem..." I whispered, thinking with all my might to activate it, maybe it would read my mind or something. "I've seen the commander wear it without having his armor"
Every attempt was in vain, deducing that it had to do with a chip on the wrist or arm, something with a faster response time.
I was looking forward to using the Omni-blade, but that will be for another time.
Now if everything is ready, order the corpse to set the shuttle's journey to Eden Prime on automatic, just before absorbing the magic residues inside and leaving it to rest in peace.
~"I guess I can talk to the IV of this vehicle now, I should understand Spanish"~
Sitting in the pilot's seat, I tried not to touch anything when talking and ask him what he wanted to know.
"Excuse me, what is the scheduled destination?"
Instantly, a map of the holographic galaxy in orange appeared before me, showing the relays that would connect the trip, accompanied by a voice as robotic and monotone as possible.
"Destination: Eden Prime
Estimated time of arrival: Two days"
"We will pass through the Eagle and Serpentine Nebula... I hope to arrive on time. Can you take off, please."
Without listening to another word, the shuttle took off so smoothly that if I hadn't seen out the window, I wouldn't have known we had taken off.
Now with two days until the meeting (if I arrived early) I settled in the chair watching the stars go by with some background music.
"Car, does the band Audiomachine exist?"
"Yes. Founded in 2015, they are responsible for creating cinematic and instrumental music"
I almost cried with happiness to know that it was not very different from my own universe, feeling a chill to enjoy things that can be considered "primitive" (like said Javik) in this year and universe.
"Please play Apollo's Triumph for the rest of the trip"
And so it was, playing in the background with if it were a movie, contemplate the light of thousands of suns in the distance, forgetting everything around me, my purpose, what will happen, at that moment it was just me and space, me and the stars.
Calm and still, I did not feel tired during the long journey, I just wished every second that he would never stop, that he would continue his walk and die here, in a place that I believed was mine.
And so I stayed, not hungry or sleepy, just me and the universe on an eternal journey that was just beginning.
"Thane, Mordin, Legion... please wait for me"
