Hello all! I have procured another Carrie crossover for all to read. I just began watching From about a week ago, and fell in love with the series. I'm usually wary about watching a new series because I fear I'll be too invested in it, and this happened.
This is going to have Carrie and Kenny as the main pairing, though it will be a slow burn. Since Kenny is second-in-command, Carrie will establish herself as the guardian against the monsters.
Without further ado, enjoy.
Carrie never stopped walking, her mind was completely gone, and her body was on auto pilot. The screams and fires blazing echoed within her ears as when she snapped. Her anger, misery, pain, and grief were too much for her to bare. The pig's blood became the straw that broke the camel's back. She wishes to take back what she's done, return to the nothingness, to never exist in the first place.
She stopped when she saw a tree blocking the road. Adjusting the rucksack on her back, she climbed over the fallen tree with a grunt then landed on the other side. The sound of cawing made her look up and see a flock crows gathered together and flying around on the high branches.
Carrie felt a shiver of fear go down her spine at the sight of them. Their caws felt like laughter from all her high school bullies. She kept her head lowered as she went on her way, glancing up beneath her hood and saw it was becoming dark.
She sped up her walking, hoping to find shelter, or even a barn to sleep in tonight.
Night fell over her, making her tense up as she slowed down to dig out a flashlight from her pocket. It flickered a couple of times before light shined a path in front of her.
She kept walking, though her feet ached and burned, she didn't want to sleep on the middle of the road or the forest.
Carrie felt as though she was being followed. No, this wasn't being followed. Stalked. Hunted. Something she's too familiar with. She could feel someone's eyes on her. Eyes that promised pain and suffering.
She stopped when she heard whispers within the trees. She turned her flashlight towards the sound and saw people standing among foliage.
"Hello, do you need help?" A beautiful woman with short blonde hair tied in a ponytail and a pink cardigan asked as she stepped closer to Carrie.
"Uh, hi. Um, can you...tell me how far I am to the next town?" Carrie asked, feeling uneasy with these strange people suddenly appearing in the woods. Something felt off about them, something eerie and malevolent.
The strange woman smiled, "You're actually pretty close."
Carrie's heartbeat erratically as she took an uneasy step back then glanced at the people behind the woman. They all held the same sinister looking smile as they watched Carrie like prey. That sense of danger increased tenfold as the woman walked closer.
The moment Carrie felt a cold hand wrapped around her wrist; her pupils dilated over her blue-green eyes. She raised her other hand towards the smiling woman.
That was the last thing she remembered doing before everything went black.
Sunlight reigned the sky above the small town as the residents awakened to another day of survival.
The Town, as it is so eloquently called, is located in the center of Township a mysterious area where all who enter become trapped inside, unable to escape. In addition to trapping unfortunate travelers within its bounds, the area is home to mysterious Creatures that emerge after nightfall and kill any humans they come across. The unwilling residents are led by a former military soldier named Boyd Stevens, the Sheriff of the Town. Under his guidance, they created a strict set of rules to help them survive every night in the last two years. Keep all doors locked shut, make sure the Talisman is hung up within the enclosed space to keep the Creatures out, cover and nail all windows shut. As they are cut off from the outside world, they had to grow their own recourses and had to repurpose the buildings for a different use. The post office is now they sheriff's station, the school is a clinic, the gas station is the bar, and a small stone building is a church. Up the hill, just on the outskirts of Town, is the Colony House, a commune lead by Donna. All this for the sake of survival in their horrific prison.
Kenny Liu, the Deputy and second-in-command of the Town, was on his way to the Clinic to visit his father who is currently suffering from dementia. Keeping him at home was not an option given his condition and the Clinic's basement is more secure. This way, the Creatures won't lure him out as easily. While Kirsti Miller and Gina take great care of his father, Kenny wishes so desperately to get him out of this hell and into a better place.
He stopped walking when he caught sight of someone walking on the road and into Town. It was still daylight, so this couldn't be a Creature. She had a rucksack strapped to her back and seems to be limping.
Kenny didn't think, he began jogging up to her, "Ma'am?"
The young girl, who appears to be in her late teens, jumped and faced him, taking on a defensive stance.
Kenny stopped a reasonable distance from the girl and held his hands up as a sign of peace. "Hey, easy, it's okay. Easy. I'm not gonna hurt you. I just wanna help."
The girl relaxed her stance but didn't take her blue-green eyes off of him.
Kenny glanced at her arm and noted how the blood soaked through the cloth. "I can help get you to our clinic. They'll patch up your arm."
The stranger hid her injured arm behind her and shook her head. "I-I have a medical kit in my pack actually. But can-can you point me in the direction of the police station?" She stammered, looking completely shaken up.
Kenny knew she already encountered the Creatures last night.
"I'm the Deputy actually." Kenny showed the girl his badge. "I'll escort you there myself."
She looked relieved and nodded, "Thank you."
"My name's Kenny. Kenny Liu." He introduced himself as she walked beside him, holding her wound tightly.
"Carrietta White. Everyone calls me Carrie." She responded, her voice small as she kept her eyes on the ground.
"That's a great name. Where are you from?" Kenny asked, knowing he'll need to add it to the map.
"Chamberlain, Maine. I hitchhiked here." Carrie answered as they passed by other residents who turned to her in surprise and curiosity.
"You wandered pretty far, haven't you?"
"Not far enough, I'm afraid." Carrie said, looking fearful of the stares people are giving her.
After walking for a few more minutes, they arrived at their destination.
"This is a post office." Carrie stated as she looked at the sign.
"Not anymore." Kenny said as he opened the door for Carrie.
As Carrie entered, she noticed a sign on the way in, 'Nights Without Incident: 62', and a strange looking rock with a symbol right by the door.
"Right this way." Kenny said as he escorted Carrie further inside until they made it into an office area.
A man of African American descent turned away from the map when the two entered his office. He wore a black jacket over his white shirt with a badge on his belt and a holstered gun right next to it.
"Hey Sheriff, this is Carrie White, she just arrived in town just now." Kenny introduced Carrie who bowed her head.
"Uh, h-how do you do, sir."
"Hello Ms. White. My name Boyd Stevens." He noticed how Carrie held her wound rather tightly.
Carrie pulled the sleeves of her sweater to cover her injury, "I'm okay, I just need a small room to sew myself up, sir."
"I know a bit about sewing up wounds. Here, let me help you." Boyd offered as he guided her to one of the chairs and sat in the one closest to her.
Carrie winced as she removed the rucksack from her back, hissing at the soreness in her muscles before she opened it with one hand and pulled out a Bible, and a first-aid kit.
She laid her arm out to Boyd who carefully peeled off the makeshift gauze while Kenny left the room and came back with a canteen of water. Carrie flinched as the air hit her uncovered wound.
Boyd's and Kenny's eyes widened at the fresh claw marks that tore into her flesh. The two men glanced at each other; they knew what it was.
Boyd then began to clean the wound, being as gentle as he could without hurting her too much.
"You had rough time coming here." Boyd stated, but Carrie's eyes weren't on him, they were on the Bible in her lap, her fingers stroking the cover as though to gain some solace. "Kenny could have taken you to the clinic instead. It's not far from here."
"It's not the hospital I need." Carrie said, barely above a whisper. "I came here to turn myself in." Her voice cracked as she finally looked up at the sheriff.
"Okay, why?" Boyd asked as he began to rebandage her wound.
Carrie pursed her lips tightly as she took a shuddering breath through her nose. "I... Last night I... Killed someone." She confessed to the two men who wore shocked expressions.
"Carrie, who exactly did you kill?" Kenny asked, wondering if she was with anyone last night.
Carrie swallowed her saliva as she stared off into the distance. "I don't know. I-I never got her name." She took shaking breaths, "I don't remember what I did. All I know is, one moment, she and these-these strange people were coming out of the woods, she said she wanted to help. But when she grabbed my wrist-" Carrie shook her head, "I don't know what happened, I blacked out. The next thing I knew when I woke up, I'm over her body face down on the road." Her lips shook, "She's dead...because of me. I killed her."
Boyd and Kenny glanced at each other again. Could it be possible? There's no way. No one has ever...
Kenny crouched in front of her, "Carrie, take a deep breath and try and calm down." He said as he tried to console her, "Are you sure you killed her?"
"I know I did. It couldn't have been anyone else. Even if I can't remember, I know it was me."
"What about the others she was with? Are they...?" Boyd asked as he finished patching her up.
Carrie cradled her wrist, "No, they were all gone by the time I woke up." She massaged the muscle around the bandage. "They saw what I did and ran away. Not that I blame them." Her face fell in her hands as she began to cry, "What have I done?"
"Hey, listen, we don't know what actually happened, but we're going to get to the bottom of this." Boyd said as he tried to assure the girl.
"You don't need to get to the bottom of anything." Carrie said as she pulled her hands away and wove her fingers together against her mouth, her face wet with tears. Her hands fell back into her lap as she looked up at Boyd's sympathetic eyes. "I need you to lock me up."
"Ms. White-" Boyd was cut off.
"Please, I-I don't know when it's going to happen again. Whatever's going on up here," She tapped her temple, "it's not safe for anyone if I'm around." Tears never stopped falling, "I don't want to kill anymore people."
Boyd looked conflicted then sighed, "Okay, we have some accommodations for you here. You'll be safe."
Carrie let out a trembling sigh of relief, "Thank you."
"But before that, can you tell me where the body is?" Boyd asked, there was a strong part of him that wants to be right.
"It should still be on the side of the road where I came in. Right on the edge of the pavement. I'm not sure how far though, maybe a mile?" Carrie guessed as Kenny helped her out of her seat.
"That's good enough for me." Boyd stated as he and Kenny escorted Carrie to a makeshift jail cell which actually looks more comfortable.
Carrie stepped inside; it was much cleaner than the prayer closet.
"Here's your bag Ms." Boyd said as he carried her rucksack inside and set it beside her bed. "Just, uh, make yourself at home. Get some sleep. You definitely need some." he stated as he looked at the shadows under her eyes.
Carrie nodded then sat on the bed with hands in her lap.
Boyd and Kenny closed the door and moved away from the cell.
"You didn't lock it." Kenny noted.
"No, we just put her in there to get some sleep. You can't lock someone up for killing a monster." Boyd stated.
"So, what do you think, could she have really killed one of them?" Kenny whispered to Boyd as soon as they were out of earshot.
"We won't know unless we see the body." Boyd said as he stared in the direction of where they put Carrie. "I'm gonna get Father Khatri and look for it. You stay here and watch over our newest resident."
"Okay. But what if it's not there?" Kenny asked, not minding the task of watching Carrie, but the possibility of their hopes getting dashed didn't sit well with him.
"Well then, Ms. White is cleared of murder charges." Boyd joked with a smirk.
Kenny chuckled under his breath before the Sherriff left to get his friend.
"Sheriff, what you're suggesting cannot be possible." Father Khatri stated as he and Boyd trudged along the road looking for the dead body Carrie spoke about. Boyd had just finished regaling everything Carrie told him.
"We didn't think we'd discover the Talismans in the forest and look how far we've come." Boyd responded as he kept his eyes peeled on the sides of the road while pushing the wheelbarrow.
"Those Talismans repel the monster, but it doesn't weaken them. No one has ever come close to killing them. And this girl you're talking about, what you're hoping for is a miracle." Father Khatri stated, having been here longer than Boyd.
"Carrie has claw marks, on her wrist, from those things." Boyd explained, "I saw them, they were deep, have you ever met anyone who was close enough to them and survived?"
"Aside from you, no one." Father Khatri said then stopped dead in his tracks.
Boyd stopped too then followed Father Khatri's eyes, his heart dropped when he saw an unmoving body completely face down on the ground. Though it looked like a human corpse, the gnarled sharp black claws gave away its true nature.
"Is that it?" Father Khatri asked considering this is his first time seeing one in the daytime.
"I sure hope so." Boyd said as he picked up a very long stick. Father Khatri glanced at the stick with a raised eyebrow. "Just in case."
They slowly approached the body, their hackles raised, ready to run in case it springs up. Though they've never seen the Creatures run, they couldn't be too cautious.
"First time I poked a dead body, it twitched, and I ran away screaming for my Mommy." Boyd said as Father Khatri breathed out a small laugh.
"I will take that secret to my grave." Father Khatri vowed as Boyd raised the stick.
Boyd turned to Khatri, "Ready?"
Khatri nodded before Boyd nudged the back of the blonde head. What neither of them anticipated was the head rolling away from the body until it faced them.
Boyd and Khatri jumped away when the face revealed itself to them. Its eyes were completely round and pale, it lacked a human nose, and its mouth was wide open, showing at least three rows of very sharp teeth.
"That's a face not even a mother could love." Boyd said in disgust.
"It's completely severed from the body." Khatri said as he crouched down to study the corpse.
Boyd joined him and noticed something else, "No, this wasn't severed, the head was torn off the neck."
"That's impossible, one girl alone out here." Khatri said as he stood up and looked around.
"Has anything ever been possible in this town?" Boyd asked rhetorically as he picked up the monster's head by the hair then dumped it in the wheelbarrow.
"Where exactly are we taking this?" Khatri asked as he grabbed the arms while Boyd took the legs.
"The clinic." Boyd answered before they dropped the body onto the barrow.
Sharp teeth. Soulless eyes. Dark claws. Carrie kept seeing them in her dreams as she struggled to get some sleep. They kept tearing into her, ripping her open and in pieces while she's still alive.
Carrie shot up out of bed with a gasp as she held her throat. She gasped and panted as she looked around then remembered she's been locked up. She let out a sigh of relief as she laid back down and wiped the sweat off her forehead. She pulled her hand away to stare at the bandages wrapped around her wrist.
A knock on the door pulled her out of her thoughts. She looked up at the small window and saw Kenny waving at her before he opened the door.
"Hey, my mom dropped off some food. Thought you might be hungry." Kenny said as he carried a container inside.
"Maybe a little." Carrie said, feeling like she hasn't eaten in days, which in a way is true.
Carrie dipped her spoon into the soup and scooped some into her mouth. "This is really good."
"Thanks, I'll make sure to tell my mom you said that." Kenny said with a smile as he sat in a chair to give Carrie some distance as he ate his portion.
Carrie smile became sad and confused. "Hey Kenny, why are you being nice to me?"
"What do you mean?"
"I did something really bad last night. Aren't you afraid of me?"
It was Kenny's turn to look sad. "To be perfectly honest, I've seen much scarier things out there in the forest. It's hard for me to be afraid of a girl who feels bad over what she's done."
Carrie looked touched yet confused and conflicted at Kenny's words.
"You okay?"
Carrie shook her head, "No. It's just," She took a deep breath, "in the nineteen years of my life, as far back as I can remember, only three people were ever truly kind to me. Other people who...pretended to be kind and humane were much crueler, monsters to be exact. That's more frightening than anything."
Kenny's expression was filled with understanding and sympathy, "You're not the only one. I've been fearing the monsters every single night since me and my parents were brought to this town."
Carrie had a small smile on her face before she finished off her soup.
Someone knocked on the door, making them turn to see Boyd opening her cell. "I'm not interrupting, am I?"
"No, we just finished lunch actually." Kenny answered.
Boyd had a soft smile on his face before he turned serious, "Ms. White, if you could come with me to the clinic, there's something I need you to see."
"What is it?" Carrie asked, feeling worried.
Boyd sighed, "I just need you to identify the body."
Kenny's eyes widened, he looked like he was about to ask, but the look in Boyd's eyes told him not yet.
Carrie sighed through her nose, looking resigned and accepting of her fate. "Okay."
"I'll come too." Kenny said quickly as he glanced at Carrie, giving her a reassuring look.
All three of them ventured into town, the sun high above them. During their walk, Carrie began to notice how all the cars have flat tires and how some of them have rusted all over.
"Why is there a car in the pool?" Carrie asked when they passed by the empty pool with an overturned car in the corner.
"Someone lost control." Was Boyd's answer as they never stopped their journey.
They trekked up the dirt road until they spotted an ambulance parked right outside a building.
"And here we are." Boyd announced.
"Um, isn't this a school?" Carrie asked when she got a better look at the structure and noticed how some of the letters to the wall are missing.
Kenny sighed, "It was."
Boyd held the door open for Carrie and Kenny before following them inside. She noticed another rock with the same markings as the one at the sheriff's station.
"Sheriff." A young woman who appears to be in her mid-30s greeted them as they entered the common room where she sat with an elderly Chinese man who had a distinct resemblance to Kenny.
"Hey Gina, Bing-Qian." Boyd greeted them warmly.
"Ah, Kenny." The older man exclaimed upon seeing the deputy.
Kenny smiled as he went over to hug the man. "Hi Dad."
Carrie smiled at the sight; she can tell they have a strong bond despite the age between them.
Bing-Qian released his son upon seeing Carrie. "Oh, a new face." He said with a fond smile on his face as though meeting another family member.
"Dad, this is Carrie, she just came to town." Kenny introduced her to is father.
Carrie bowed her head in greeting, "Lovely to meet you, Mr. Liu."
"You as well." The elder man said in broken English, "And a pretty one too."
Carrie's smile widened, "You're too kind."
Kenny watched the interaction then whispered to his father in Chinese, promising to play a game of chess after he takes care of business.
Boyd then led them further into the clinic, "Father Khatri and Kristi are this way."
Carrie and Kenny walked beside each other.
"Your father's really nice."
Kenny smiled, though Carrie saw a hint of sadness in his eyes. "He is."
"And he looks strong."
"Yeah, most days." Kenny nodded, "He has Dementia."
Carrie's face fell, "Oh, uh, I'm so sorry."
Kenny nodded, "It's fine. The clinic's the safest place for him. Me and Mom are just down the street. It's easier this way."
"But why in an old school building? Why not get him someplace outside of town, one with better care facilities?" Carrie couldn't help but wonder, there was just something strange about this place.
"We'll explain after." Boyd cut into the conversation as they made their way into what looks like a boiler room.
After turning the corner, they were greeted by Father Khatri and third year medical student Kristi Miller, the town doctor.
"Sorry for the wait." Boyd said as he clapped the other man's shoulder.
"You came, that's all that matters." Khatri then glanced at Carrie who tensed up.
"You must be Carrie. I'm Father Khatri." He extended his hand out in greeting.
Carrie shook the older man's hand, "It's nice to meet you."
"This is Kristi, she's the doctor here." Khatri gestured to the only other female in the room.
"How are you?" Kristi asked as she gave Carrie a welcoming smile.
"I'm okay." Carrie responded with a hesitant smile.
Carrie finally took notice of a large piece of cloth covering something on the table behind Kristi. Making out the shape, she knew what it was.
"Is that...?"
"Yeah, we just need you to identify it." Boyd explained as he laid a gentle hand on her shoulder. "It'll be okay."
Carrie wasn't sure why he was trying to comfort her, but she sensed no ill intent coming from the man.
"Okay." Carrie said then took a deep breath to prepare herself.
Boyd glanced at Kristi and nodded.
Kristi slowly and meticulously went over to the head and carefully peeled back the cloth for all to see.
Carrie's eyes popped out of her skull when the face was revealed. It wasn't human at all; it wasn't even close to one. Though the hair was similar to the girl she met last night, the facial structures are completely different.
Her hands flew to her mouth as she stumbled backwards as memories of last night came back; the hand gripping her wrist morphed into claws, the human smile peeled back to reveal monstrous and ugly rows of teeth, and pale eyes filled with bloodlust and malice.
"I didn't imagine it." Carrie whispered as she slowly pulled her shaking hands from her face, "It was dark, I was sure I was hallucinating when that woman turned into-" She cut herself off as she tried to grasp what she just did.
"Nope, you weren't imagining. This is the real deal." Boyd said as he nodded towards the ugly decapitated monster.
Carrie turned to the sheriff, "Then...that means..." A wide smile broke out onto her face as she ran her fingers through her hair, "...That I'm not crazy!" She laughed joyfully, fearing she had inherited her mother's schizophrenia.
Everyone watched as she laughed hysterically, this wasn't a reaction they expected.
"Oh, thank God, this..." Carrie let out a breath, "...this is a huge relief. I don't have a mental illness. But still, I just killed a monster last night." Carrie let out a new string of laughter.
Carrie's smile began to falter, "I killed a monster last night." She said as she began to register her new situation.
"And here we go." Kenny muttered as they waited for the breakdown to happen.
Carrie eyes widened as she got a better look at the dead creature on the table. "I killed a monster last night?" She exclaimed in shock and exasperation.
"Yep." Boyd nodded.
Carrie turned to the sheriff, "Wait, you all knew about these things?" She asked when she realized how everyone in the room looks so calm and accepting.
"Everyone in this town knows." Khatri stated, "This is the first time we've seen one that's dead."
Carrie's blinked rapidly as she held a hand up as though to stead her thoughts. "Wait, so...those other people that came out of the forest...they're also..." She didn't have the courage to finish that sentence.
"Yeah." Kristi nodded with a grim look.
Carrie felt like the world was swaying, "Then...how-how many...are out there?"
"Um, well, a lot." Boyd answered as they watched Carrie's face change from bewilderment, shock, then fear.
"Oh, okay." Was the last thing Carrie said before she collapsed.
Luckily, Kenny caught her just in time before she hit the ground.
"I think she handled that well." Kenny said as he held an unconscious girl in his arms.
