It was a dark stormy night when Jonathan and Martha Kent made their way through the tunnels that led to the Queen Mansion. Robert Queen, Jonathan's longtime friend called him and asked him and Martha to come to the mansion but to be discreet about it. They were led through the tunnels by one of the Queens bodyguards. They made it into the mansion and followed the bodyguard to the closed bedroom door. "Wait here" the bodyguard said knocking on the door.
"Come in" they heard a voice call from inside the room. The bodyguard walked into the room and closed the door behind him leaving Jonathan and Martha standing out in the hallway alone. The thunder roared outside. Jonathan and Martha looked at each other not sure what was going on.
Just then the bodyguard came out of the room. "The Queens will see you now" he said. Jonathan and Martha walked into the room slowly. They saw Robert standing by the bed with his wife Laura laying in the bed.
"Jonathan, Martha thank god you're here" Robert said walking to the bedroom door.
"It was just them sir. They weren't followed" the bodyguard said.
Robert nodded his head. "Thank you Matt. Finish getting everything ready. We'll be down as soon as we're finished here" Robert said. Matt nodded and walked away. Robert closed the door and locked it. Jonathan and Martha looked around the room and noticed it was unusually dark in here. All the curtains were closed and the only light came from two candles on either side of the bed. Robert walked over to them. "We don't have a lot of time" he said walking them towards the bed.
"What's going on Robert? Why did you call us here and tell us we had to be discreet " Jonathan asked.
Robert looked at the couple seriously. "Jonathan, you've been my best friend since high school and I've never asked you for anything but we need you two to do something for us" Robert said.
"Of course, after everything you guys have done for us, helping us get married and get the farm, we'll do anything for you guys" Jonathan said.
Martha nodded. "Of course we will" she said. Robert nodded and Laura pulled back the covers and Jonathan and Martha gasped.
Laura was holding a sleeping baby in her hands. "We need you guys to take him and raise him as your own" Laura said.
Jonathan and Martha looked at each other confused. "Is that baby yours" Jonathan asked. Robert and Laura both nodded.
"We didn't even know you guys were expecting" Martha said.
"Only a select few people know" Robert said.
"We had to keep it secret. That's why I haven't been seen outside of the mansion these last few months. We said I was sick but really I was pregnant. Sorry I missed your anniversary party" Laura said to them.
"That's OK. We understand" Martha said. Laura stood up, walked over to Martha and handed her the baby.
"Keep him safe" she said kissing the sleeping babies forehead.
Martha shook her head. "We can't just take your baby" she said.
Laura shook her head. "You must. It's the only way he'll be safe. You guys are the only people we trust to raise our son" she said.
"You're the best people we know" Robert said.
Jonathan looked at his friend. "What's going on" he asked.
"The less you know the better. Just know I got into business with the wrong people. Very dangerous people" Robert said. He pulled out a suitcase from under the bed.
"What's his name" Martha asked.
"Oliver. Oliver Kent" Laura said.
Robert walked over to Jonathan. "Everything's already been taken care of. His adoption records, his medical records. They all say Kent on them. We added a fake name on the birth certificate just in case" Robert said handing Jonathan a couple papers.
"He can't be traced back to us" Laura said.
Jonathan and Martha looked at each other. "Are you sure" Jonathan asked.
They both nodded. "We have no choice" Laura said.
Robert pulled a baby bag out from under the bed. "Everything he'll need is in there" Robert said giving the bag to Martha who put it over her shoulder. "There's one more thing" Robert said walking into his closet and bringing out a big chest. "Give this to him when he's ready. We explain everything in this letter" Robert said handing Jonathan the chest and a letter with the name Oliver on it. "This is the key" Robert said putting it in the baby bag.
"Are you guys going to be OK" Jonathan asked.
"You've been a good friend Jonathan. You both have. The best friends we've ever had. I know we're asking a lot of you two but promise us you will raise him and keep him safe" Robert said.
Jonathan and Martha looked at each other. They both nodded. "We promise" Jonathan said.
Matt ran into the room. "It's time. They have to go now" Matt said taking the chest from Jonathan.
"Matt will get you home safely. Thank you. Now go" Robert said. Jonathan and Martha followed Matt out of the room. Jonathan gave his friend one last look and Robert nodded at him. Jonathan followed Martha and Matt down the hall.
9 years later
It had been nine years since that faithful night and Jonathan and Martha kept their promise to Robert and Laura. They raised Oliver like he was their own. Everyone believed he was. After that night Matt had finished given them the paperwork the Queens left them. The story they had come with was that hey had adopted Oliver since everyone knew Martha was never pregnant. They found out two days later that Robert and Laura were killed that night. They grieved for their friends and were more determined than ever to keep their promise to their friends. They raised Oliver to have a nice normal life and they loved Oliver so much. They kept his true identity a secret like they promised. They would until he was ready. Oliver was a nice, respectful, hardworking kid that looked up to his father and loved both his parents. Jonathan felt bad that Oliver would never get to know the amazing man his birth father was but he would honor his friends memory.
What Jonathan and Martha didn't know is that for the second time in 9 years their lives were about to change for ever. Oliver was in the elementary school and they had to stop to buy flowers so they drove into town and went to the local florist shop. They walked into the shop and saw a little girl dressed like a fairy princess sitting at a table. "Abracadabra" the little girl said waving her wand over two ceramic frogs.
"Afternoon, Nell" Jonathan said.
"Jonathan!" Nell said. She looked at the happy couple and they looked back at her. "Martha. What a surprise. What brings the reclusive Kents to town" Nell asked.
"Tulips. Red ones, if you have them" Martha said walking up to the counter.
"What about a tiger orchid" Nell asked.
"No thanks. Martha has her heart set on tulips" Jonathan said walking up to his wife.
"Yes well they truly are a very uncomplicated flower" Nell said going in the back to get some. The couple looked at each other and smiled.
Martha walked over to Lana. "That is a beautiful dress Lana. Are you a princess" Martha asked.
"I'm a fairy princess" Lana answered.
"Hey where are her parents" Jonathan asked Nell.
"At the homecoming game with everyone else. I'm being the good Aunt. Where's Oliver" Nell asked.
"In school. We figured we would run some errands before he got out" Jonathan answered.
"Do you wanna make a wish" Lana asked Martha.
"I would love to make a wish" Martha answered.
"OK. Abracadabra" Lana said waving her wand and tapping Martha's head. Martha smiled at Lana.
"We should probably get going" Jonathan said.
Martha nodded and walked over to her husband. "Thank you Nell. These are beautiful" Martha said.
Nell smiled at her. "Your welcome. Hopefully I'll see you guys and Oliver soon" she said.
Jonathan nodded. "We'll see. Running the farm keeps us very busy" he said.
Nell nodded. "Well hopefully you'll find some time to come back and visit" she said.
Jonathan and Martha walked out their truck. Martha got in the passenger side while Jonathan loads the flowers into the back of the truck. Jonathan got into the drivers side. Martha was staring out the window lost in thought. "I know what you wished for" Jonathan said to her.
"To see another little face. All I've wanted these last 9 years is for Oliver to have a sibling and for us to expand our family. At least we have Oliver" she said.
Jonathan kissed his wife. Someone honking outside their truck pulled them apart. They saw a truck with a bunch of cheerleaders celebrating pass the truck. "Hey, looks like Smallville won again" Jonathan said. They drove away and headed toward back to their farm. They were driving past a corn field when a meteor came crashing down in the corn field. Another meteor hit the Smallville sign. They looked behind them at the meteors crashing down.
"What's happening Jonathan" Martha asked.
A meteor fell right in front of Jonathan and Martha. Jonathan jerked the wheel and hit the brakes fighting for control of the truck. They wound up driving off to the side of the road, into the cornfield upside down. Both Jonathan and Martha were knocked out. Jonathan woke up and was shocked by what he saw. Two legs were walking over to the truck. Jonathan continued to stare at the legs not believing what he was seeing. "Martha" Jonathan called. Martha slowly woke up and looked out Jonathan's window and was shocked by what she saw. A little boy leaned down to look at the two strangers. Jonathan and Martha looked at each other shocked. The little boy smiled at them. After some struggle Jonathan and Martha were able to pull themselves out of the truck. Marha picked up the little boy and they went investigating to try to find out what happened. "Kids don't just fall out of the sky, Martha" Jonathan said.
"Then where did he come from" Martha asked.
"I don't know but he must have parents" Jonathan said. They stopped walking and stared in shock at what was in front of them. What looked like a spaceship was right at their feet.
"If he does, they're definitely not from Kansas" Martha said.
Jonathan looked over at Martha who was smiling at the little boy. He was smiling back at her. "Sweetheart, we can't keep him. What are we going to tell people? We found him out in the felid and what about Oliver" Jonathan asked.
"Oliver will be so excited that he has a little brother. Besides, we didn't find him. He found us" Martha said. Martha smiled at Jonathan. He looked at the little boy in her arms who smiled up at him. He smiled back at him. Jonathan and Martha looked up at the sky not knowing where this little boy came from but knowing they couldn't just leave him out in the field. Once again their lives had changed forever and they wouldn't have it any other way.
