*Beep!* *Beep!* *Beep!*
Why do all alarms have time to screech like a banshee in the dead of the night? Or is it morning?
"Grr! Where the hell is that button?" I growled half asleep, moving my hand around to feel the damn contraption Alice got me.
She said and I quote, 'I guarantee you'll never be late again.'
Yeah, what she failed to mention, was that the damn contraption gives you two minutes to turn it off, if not the damn thing hides from you and goes howling around the house until you find it.
I want to take my fucking hammer to the stupid thing, but knowing Alice, she probably bought dozens of em ready to replace this stupid thing at a moment's notice.
Throwing that thing against the wall won't work. It just won't break!
Seth howled in laughter when he saw the horrified look on my face as I opened it for my twenty-fifth birthday.
"Well, you were complaining about always being late. It was thoughtful of Alice to get you one." He pointed out before his ass went howling in laughter, up the stairs to the room he'd been staying in at my parents' house.
It wasn't funny when the damn thing went howling into his room the next morning though, then was it?
It was just good that I moved out into my own home two weeks after my birthday because honestly, living with and dealing with a grumpy, half-asleep Seth and my father, Charlie, is dangerous, even for me.
Ask my high school boyfriend, Greg, how his ass is doing and he'll tell you, hole-ly. Well, scarred but you get the idea.
Ah! At last the button! Wait...no that's the...oh crap… now it's going to…
*Beep!* *Beep!* *Beep!* *Beep!* *Beep!* *Beep!*
Son of a biscuit smothered in gravy! Now I have to chase that damn thing down with my broom!
I feel a flash of irritation towards Alice, as I chase the damn thing down trying and failing to shut it down. By the time I realized what time it was, I had to rush to get into my shower before finally going to get ready.
I was a whole 'nother leave of annoyed as I realized it was now late to catch the bus to work, meaning I had to ride my baby today, meaning I would have to wear my black leather pants to work.
Oh shit!
The bright side of this problem is that I would get to ride my baby, my Harley Davidson, Fat Boy 114. In a sexy stiletto heel red, with a satin chrome, a steamroller stance, fat tires, and a squared-up headlamp. It has a Milwaukee-Eight 114 V-Twin engine and Lakester disc wheels.
This baby took me a while to pay off, but when I did, fuck if I didn't feel excited over owning this sexy ass ride.
Riding her was a dream. Even with the helmet on as a restriction. It had me panting every time I rode on it.
Man, I could ride her anywhere, usually my preferred means of travel but not during the rainy season. Which was exactly what we were in the middle of.
Damn it, Alice!
Next time I see her I'm throwing that damn thing at her head!
I slipped on the leather pants, a mustard yellow thick, knit sweater, and my leather jacket on top before slipping on my Doc Martens with a chunky heel.
Forgoing curling my hair, I pull it into a chignon, slapping on some mascara and eyeliner on before rushing out the door with my helmet, messenger bag, cellphone, and keys.
I don't even get to admire my baby as I walk into the garage, much to my disappointment. I simply slammed my helmet onto my head and quickly drove out of the garage in the direction of the office.
I am almost a block away from my usual coffee place when some asshole suddenly veers off and speeds away, almost knocking me sideways to eat shit.
"Motherfucking asshole!" I scream after it.
Without thinking twice about it I veer off and follow the fucker down the street.
My phone, however, prevents me from following the fucker any further.
However, a simple glance at my wrist makes me realize I am close to an hour late and has me doubling back faster than I thought could be physically possible.
'...and I still haven't gotten my damn coffee from Seth! Oh, this morning just keeps getting better and better…' I think to myself as I ride down the street.
By the time I finally make it to my office, I am steaming mad. Motherfucker better hope not to cross me again. Bee Marie never forgets those who wronged her! Motherfucker was going to get him if it was the last thing I did!
I silently steamed as I parked in the underground lot, and rushed across the lot into the elevator towards the top floor.
No coffee, no delicious blueberry muffin, or cake pop. Man, I could never catch a break.
"Good morning, Ms. Swan!" Bree greets me as soon as I step out of the elevator.
"Good morning, Bree, any calls?" I asked as I slipped my helmet off and walked towards my office.
"Two, actually. One, from your father, wondering if you will be coming down this weekend. The second one was from Ms. Alice. She said she needs you to call her back as soon as possible. It sounded urgent." She said as she walked with me towards my office.
Crap! My dad wanted me to go down this weekend, 'for a weekend of decompression' as he put it earlier this week, which is complete and total bullshit, and he knows it. We all know if I head home I'll end up in jail for assault charges since Mike still lives there.
"So, I take it it's a 'no' for this weekend?" Bree asked, we walked into my office.
"Tell him that I said 'maybe'. Can you please tell Jen that I need all the drafts done and on my desk before the end of lunch today? Also, call Angela down at the front desk and ask her to have Jordy pick up some coffee for me from Clear Brews. I need a double shot, mocha lotté, and a vanilla iced coffee." I asked as she wrote down what I was saying.
"Got it, Boss. What about Alice?" She asked, curiously.
"I'll call her right now, as I am checking my emails. Can you also call Larson down in I.T. and tell him to come to check out the copy machine and Remy's computer, please? Also send out a memo to this floor reminding them that the break room isn't for any type of liaisons of workers and that if any workers are caught doing so during office hours, it will be deemed as grounds for immediate termination." I said, as I unzipped my jacket, and pulled it off before hanging it on the coat rack on the corner before heading to sit in my chair.
"Got it, Boss." She said as she finished taking notes, before walking out of the office to her desk.
After she left, I quickly looked through my email, to check on one of the clients we had, only to be interrupted by Cardi B's I Like It blasting on my phone. My eyes flickered at the device in annoyance as it rang continuously.
I knew it would only continue to ring all day if I ignored it, Alice could be one relentless bitch when she wanted something, and I didn't have the patience to listen to her bitch about her having to work two-day jobs so she could continue to study and put herself through Design School. She didn't have to, I had offered her a job here at the Rising Swan Publishing Co, but she refused, saying she wanted to work for her shit, so I relented, for now.
My thoughts were only confirmed as I glanced back down and noticed that I had now missed four calls from her.
Fuck! She was going to be livid!
The song began again, and this time I snatched the damn contraption off the desk and swiped my finger across the screen.
"About damn time you picked up, bitch!" She screeched into the phone. "Turn on your camera, I need to talk to you in person but I don't have enough time to drive across town. Hurry!" She cried, distressed.
I rolled my eyes at her dramatics before pulling the phone away from my ear and pressing the screen once more to activate the access to the camera.
There she was in all her pixie glory staring back at me with her large blue eyes.
"About fucking time, bitch! What the fuck took you so long?" She asked, exasperated.
"Listen, bitch, my ass isn't sitting all day filing my nails, and scratching it. I have work to do. Now, what do you need?" I asked in the same tone.
"Alright, alright. I need a favor." She replied critically.
Oh no! Not this shit again! She always fucking does this shit, only to fucking pull me into some shit that will probably get me into trouble with Charlie and Sue.
"No shit. What do you need?" I asked, rolling my eyes at her as she bit her lip ring.
"Well, I recently got a job at a dating agency. I need one couple to go on a blind date. Like literally come in, and let themselves be blindfolded, feel each other, talk some, and then do a photoshoot for me… but no one has agreed. I called even Tammy, Tanya, and Rose earlier but they all fucking flipped their shit… please Bee, you're my last hope." She said, as her periwinkle eyes watered and her lower lip began to wobble.
I stared at her, dumbfounded, for a moment before my ass began laughing. "Are you fucking serious right now? Alice, why the fuck would you want to work in a dating agency? Are you sure they aren't a hidden porn agency instead?" I asked in between chuckles.
"It's not a porn agency, bitch. Rayna confirmed it. They match people based on their preferences, likes, and dislikes, amongst other things. But the last five couples have been disastrous. Please Bella, I just got this job. I need the money..." She begged.
Ugh. I know I am going to regret this later….but what the hell? I mean I can't be any worse than when Charlie tried to set me up with Jacob Black, his best friend Billy's son when I was nineteen and he was eighteen.
He was a tall, cocky little shit that thought size is all that matters. He was poorly mistaken, and boy did he learn that shit after he met Leah. His wife and my older step-sister.
"Alright, I'll do it, but if this goes anything like the Charlie- Jacob fiasco, and the dude tries anything, I'm never speaking to you again, Mary Alice. Now, I need to get back to work, I'll call you after work, alright?" I asked as I clicked on the mouse of my computer.
I flinched at her responding squeal, "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You won't regret this! I promise you!" She squealed.
"Yeah, we'll see about that…" I replied, clicking before she could talk me into anything else in my caffeine-deficient state.
