Chapter 33: A Special Request

After spending a few hours at Warrick's place, Sara and Grissom left before heading back to Catherine's, using the key that she gave him earlier, so they could take a shower and change since she did offer her guest room to them while they were in Vegas, and once they were showered, changed and ready to go, Sara grabbed her phone and realized she had a voicemail, so she checked it, smiling when she heard it was Ashley's voice. Then once it ended, she had a weird look on her face as she closed her phone, so Grissom asked. "What's wrong?"

"Well first off, they got to Vegas fine and they were checking in their hotel when she called and told me that they'll meet us at the restaurant, then she said that I won't believe who Quinn brought as her plus one."

He raised an eyebrow as he asked. "Could it be Trevor again?"

Sara made a face and shook her head. "I honestly don't think so, she was very adamant that he was just a friend, and that's all she'll ever see him as. She just didn't want to go to our wedding alone." Sara took a breath before continuing. "She's been pretty quiet about her dating life, I think she actually did what she wanted to do when she got back, which was taking time for herself before getting serious with men again. Her breakdown really did a number on her."

He cupped her cheek as he comforted her. "But she seems like she is in a better place now."

Sara nodded with a smile. "Yes, and I'm so happy for her, I just hope it continues and that this new guy, especially if he's permanent in her life, is treating her well."

He then smirked. "Which I'm sure if he isn't treating her right, you'll have something to say about it."

Sara nodded again with one more smile. "Damn right."

He smiled at first, then as he really looked her over, seeing how beautiful she really was in this moment, which was basically her usual look but with her hair in a neat bun and she was wearing a light pant suit, and that only happens when it's a special occasion and court, he gave her a different look, and when Sara noticed the way her husband was now looking at her, she shook her head with a smile and stepped back from his hand that had been on her cheek. "No way babe, we don't got time for that. Plus, Catherine and the girls should be here any..."

She gets cut off when they hear Catherine's voice from the living room, calling out to them, saying that they were home.

Sara then raised an eyebrow with an 'I told you' look, and he nodded with a smile. "Then I guess raincheck it is."

She did give him a sympathy look before smirking as she headed for the bedroom door. "Besides, I think you'll like what I picked out to ware tomorrow at the wedding better than what I have on now." She turned to look at him, and he as an intrigued look on his face with his eyebrow raised, but she didn't say anything else, she turned back around and continued her walk to the door and left the room.

Grissom took a moment to take a breath before shaking his head with a smile as he walked towards the door to the room. He could only imagine what she was going to ware tomorrow, and while his wife wasn't the dress up type all the time, when she did, she was irresistible to him. But really, who was he kidding, she was irresistible to him no matter what she was in, or out of, for that matter, especially lately.

Grissom mentally shook his head again, not needing his thoughts to go there right now, and made it into the main room just in time to hear Sara say to Catherine with a smile. "You didn't have to do that."

Grissom asked. "Do what?"

Before Catherine could answer, Belle spoke with excitement while she held up her new dress to her dad. "Look what Catherine got me for the wedding, isn't it beautiful?"

Like her mother, Belle never really liked to wear dresses unless it was for a special occasion, and even then, at times, she would groan a little after it was on. But then again, their little girl is growing up and her taste in clothing could change with that, especially if she had any of Catherine's and Lindsey's influence.

Trying to once again shake off his daughter getting older, he smiled with a nod. "It's beautiful, butterfly. Did you say thank you?"

Belle nodded with a smile, then Catherine told the girls it was time to get ready, so they rushed out of the room and headed for Lindsey's bedroom to change, then once they were alone, Grissom repeated to Catherine what Sara had said. "You really didn't have to."

Catherine waved it off with a smile. "Don't worry about it, you watched my child for a little over 2 months, buying your child a dress was nothing. She saw it, got excited about it and I wanted to do something nice for her." Catherine then smirked. "Besides, what's the point of being her 'aunt' and not spoil her, right?"

They just chuckled with a nod, and let it go, then after Grissom told Catherine that Nick and the others were here in town, Catherine headed to her room to get ready for the big dinner.

Once everyone was changed, they left her house in two vehicles and headed to one of the most beautiful, yet expensive Italian restaurants in Vegas, and when they were all out of the vehicle and walking towards the building, Grissom cleared his throat before asking with a smirk. "I don't mean to question your finances, but how much are you getting paid to afford to rent this place out for a few hours?"

Catherine smirked right back. "Says the man who owns two beach houses in two different cities."

Grissom shyly explains. "I got a good deal from the one in Santa Monica because I knew the owner, and the San Francisco one..."

Sara comes in with a smirk as she squeezed her husband's hand softly. "We own equally, so we are both paying on it."

Since Grissom has become a criminalist, he never did any major splurging, unless it involved some kind of experiment, so by the time he had met Sara, his financial situation was very stable, which him being a major workaholic back then admittedly helped with that as well, so when it came time to buying the beach house from the family friend at a good price, he could afford it, not to mention their main home in San Francisco, and with Sara equally paying her share on that one, which that was the only way she agreed to a brand new place, they are well off in that department. Plus, with Sara's bump in pay after she accepted the supervisor position, they are even more well off than before, not rich by any means, but very comfortable.

Catherine nodded in understanding before replied after taking a breath. "And this is all Warrick actually, he's the one that set this up."

Grissom looked shocked with a raised eyebrow. "And how much exactly is he getting paid now?"

She shook her head with a chuckle, then replied. "This is from his betting days."

When Warrick first started working at the lab in Vegas, he didn't hide the fact that he bet on sports, mostly football and basketball, co-workers would even ask his opinion on some bets so they could get some extra money too, and while he didn't hit it big all the time, he made it more than he didn't. But eventually, sometime after Grissom had left the lab and Vegas, Catherine noticed his betting was becoming more of an addiction, so around the same time as they were getting closer, she helped him overcome his addiction before it ruined his life or possibly career. Of course, like all addictions he has to take it one day at a time, but he's thankful he has Catherine and Lindsey to distract him of ever placing a bet again, now he likes spending his money on them and for special occasions like tonight, even though Catherine tells him he didn't have to, but he wanted to.

Grissom nodded in understanding, although he didn't know about it becoming an addiction to him.

When the group walked into the restaurant, most of the guests were already there, and Warrick smiled while looking at his fiancée. "Here is the future bride."

They all smiled and cheered, causing Catherine to smile shyly as she walked to Warrick while Ashley, Quinn and her plus one walked towards Sara and Grissom.

Sara greeted her friends before looking shocked at the guy standing next to Quinn.

"Brad?"

Brad Stevens was 6'0, athletic built with short brown hair that he usually covers with a hat, hazel eyes, and if you didn't know him, he could be quite intimidating, it was one of those situations where you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

Brad smiles. "Hi Sara, it's nice to see you again."

Sara shakes off her shock of seeing this man again with a smile of her own as she gave him a hug. "Yeah, it's nice to see you again."

After they get out of the hug, Grissom and Brad greeted one another with a handshake while Sara and Quinn share a hug, and Sara spoke softly in the other woman's ear. "I think you have a little explaining to do."

Quinn nodded, and replied while they pulled back. "Yes, I do, and I will, later."

Sara nodded before her daughter said hi to her aunts and Brad then they joined the rest of the group who was close to the bride and groom, where Nick also greeted the Grissoms.

A few hours later, once their time in the restaurant was up, the girls, Lindsey and Belle, went home with Catherine's mom while the women, Sara, Ashley, Quinn and a few others that Catherine knew and who were at the restaurant went to Catherine's place while the guys, Grissom, Jim, Nick, Brad, and a few others that Warrick knew went with Warrick to do their partying.

Not long after the women settled into Catherine's place, Quinn and Sara actually had a moment to themselves out on the deck, and Sara asked. "I thought you said you two grew apart. Not that I'm not happy you're back with Brad, I've always liked you two as a couple. In fact, I believe he was the best boyfriend you ever had since I've known you."

The other woman smiled with a nod. "You're right, he was. I couldn't believe how lucky I got with him, that he was willing to take a chance on me." She then sighed before she continued. "Then I had to screw up what we had." As Sara looked at her in confusion, Quinn continued once again, dropping a bombshell Sara wasn't expecting. "Sara, I lied to you when I told you that Brad and I had drifted apart, and we mutually decided to break up. In fact, that was so far from the truth, he actually proposed, and I rejected it before dumping him. He never wanted the break-up; it was all me." Sara stood there indeed shocked, and Quinn continued again after wiping a few tears off her cheeks. "I loved him Sara, I really did, I do, but what I was feeling inside at the time really scared me, something wasn't right with me, so I pushed him away, breaking both of our hearts in the process and playing it off like I wasn't hurting, but I was, I truly was."

As Quinn started to sob, Sara brings her friend into her arms to comfort her, and when they pulled back, Quinn spoke again. "When I came back into town, I honestly wasn't expecting to get back together with Brad, or ever seeing him again, not that I didn't want to, but because I figured he wouldn't want to see me after what I did to him." She then finished with a smile. "But when we did see each other for the first time in a chance meeting at a restaurant, it was like time hadn't passed, we really talked, I apologized for hurting him and he miraculously forgave me and asked for another chance, and while we did have all those years together before, we are taking things slow. I feel so truly and completely happy for the first time in a very long time."

Sara lights up for her friend as she gives her another hug. "And I'm so happy for you for finally finding your peace, most times it doesn't take a straight line to get there."

Quinn chuckled as they pulled back. "You're telling me." A moment passed and Sara bit her lip and looked down, causing Quinn to ask. "Sara, what is it?"

Sara took a breath and lifted her head to look at Quinn again. "I'm sorry if I'm turning the conversation to be about me, but there is something I want to tell you before anyone else knows."

She didn't imagine telling her three best friends separately, but here she was.

Quinn asked again, this time a little worried. "What's going on?"

Sara took a breath before telling her, a smile lighting her face instantly. "I'm pregnant."

Quinn gasped at first. "No way!" After Sara nodded with a chuckle, Quinn chuckled in return while this time bringing her friend in a hug. "Oh my god this is amazing." Then they pull back and she continued with a smirk. "And about damn time you're having another child if you ask me."

Sara chuckled with a nod. "I agree." She then gets a little more serious. "But there were reasons that..."

Quinn cuts her off with a smile. "I know, and everything is falling into place for you, as it should."

"And for you as well, it seems."

Quinn nodded with one more smile. "Yeah, it is."

They shared on more hug before walking back inside to enjoy Catherine's bachelorette party.

Later that night

Catherine was sitting in the dining room when she heard a key unlock the front door before it opened and closed softly, so she asked. "Gil?" Knowing he'll want to come back and sleep next to his wife and not in a hotel room with the guys, but of course he was the only guy allowed back into her house that night.

Grissom was a little shocked to hear Catherine's voice as he moved closer to the dining room. "Cath, what are you doing up?"

Catherine, who was sitting in the chair at the table with a cup of chamomile tea in front of her, turned her head and smiled at him. "For two reasons, one, to congratulate you on being a father again."

Before she could continue, he gasped slightly as he sat down in the seat next to her. "Did she tell you?"

Catherine shook her head with a chuckle. "No, and I don't think she would have voluntarily given that information up to me on this visit."

Grissom shook his head with a smile. "She would never want to try and steal your thunder."

Catherine chuckled. "Probably not, and I didn't want to put her on the spot, she'll pick the time when it's right."

He then asked. "Then how did you..."

He trailed off when he saw her give him the 'serious' look, causing him to shyly smile as she spoke with another smile. "I see the glow, Gil, I know that look, I've had that look. Plus, I saw her place her hand on her stomach a few times, even while we were eating dinner." She then smirked at the end. "And I know she wasn't sipping on anything that was acholic, she had no symptoms of that by the end of the night, unlike her two friends."

Grissom chuckled. "I hope they weren't that bad."

Catherine shook her head. "No, maybe a light headache worth in the morning." He nodded in understanding before she got a little teary eyed as she placed her hand on his arm. "I'm so happy for you, for both of you, you're a wonderful father. I just wish I could witness it on a daily basis."

Grissom cleared his throat with a nod as he placed his hand on top of hers. "I know, I miss you too." They gave each other understanding smiles in return, knowing why his path went the way it did, but they still had a right to miss one another, she was his closest friend, or at least as close as he allowed back then, for a lot of years.

He cleared his throat again, getting them back to the present, and asked. "You said there were two reasons you were still up, what's the second one?"

She took a breath as she pulled her hand back from his arm before asking. "I wanted to ask you a question."

"You can ask me anything, you know that."

She seemed a little nervous while she did finally ask. "Would you walk me down the aisle?"

Grissom seemed a little shocked by the offer. "Really?"

Catherine nodded with a smile. "Really. Gil, you're my best friend and I would be honored if you walked me down the aisle."

Grissom smiled with a nod. "I'm honored that you asked, and my answer is yes, if that's what you really want."

She nodded again, with tears in her eyes again as they stood up so they could share a hug. "Yes, it is. Thank you."

"You're welcome."

After they pull back, he speaks. "You should get some sleep; you have a big day ahead of you."

She nodded one more time as she sits back down in the chair. "I will in a minute, I want to finish this tea first."

"Ok, have a goodnight."

"You too."

They share one more smile before Grissom heads to the guest room that Sara and him were sharing, and after he walked into the room, he sees Sara sleeping in the bed before he gathers his sleeping clothes, which now that he's in another person's house with other guests, it was sleeping pants and a t-shirt, and his toothbrush and toothpaste before heading to the guest bathroom.

When he returned to the bedroom a few minutes later, he puts his items away, crawled into bed, wrapped his arm around his sleeping wife, kissed her cheek and whispered 'I love you' before falling fast asleep.
