Maybelline Hudson: Heir To A Racing Legacy Chapter 5

Lightning McQueen's reaction to being introduced to the one and only unforgettable Bessie is a hilarious one to remember. Covered in dirt and grime, all things considered, Bessie is McQueen's worst nightmare when it comes to the posh and spotless public image he has to precociously maintain for appearance's sake in the racing world.

Doc Hudson, Maybelline, and Mater brought McQueen to Bessie herself, carrying boiling tar.

Smugly, Doc Hudson said "This here is Bessie, the finest road-paving machine ever built. I'm hereby sentencing you to community service. You're going to fix the road under my supervision."

"What? This place is crazy," exclaimed Lightning McQueen, hatefully.

Leaning closer to Lightning McQueen, Mater whispered "I know this may be a bad time right now, but you owe me $32,000 in legal fees."

Jaw-dropping so low it nearly grazes the dirt, Lightning McQueen said "What?"

Chortling at the expression on his face, Maybelline said "He's joking. You don't owe him that much money."

Clearing his throat to draw attention back to him, Doc Hudson said "We're going to hitch you up to Bessie, and you're going to pull her nice."

"You've got to be kidding me," spat McQueen, scowling.

Nodding toward the firehouse, Doc Hudson said "You start there where the road begins. You finish down there where the road ends."

Looking at the distance Lightning McQueen has to cover, Mater shouted "Holy shoot!"

Lightning McQueen gasped "Whoa, whoa, whoa! How long is this going to take?"

Shrugging, Doc Hudson said "Well, fella does it right, should take him about five days."

"Five days," yelled Lightning McQueen in disbelief, behaving intolerably. "But I should be in California schmoozing Dinoco right now!"

"Then if I were you, I'd quit yapping and start working," said Doc Hudson, in a no-nonsense and uncompromising tone of voice.

Doc Hudson's word goes and is final around these parts. Lightning McQueen isn't in the outside world anymore. He's in Radiator Springs now and as long as he's here he's going to be required to go by their rules. Being a race car doesn't help his situation either.

"Hook him up, Mater," ordered Hudson McQueen.

"Okay-okay," said Mater, beaming, moving to remove the wheel lock from Lightning McQueen's left front tire.

Before Mater has a chance to make an enormous mistake on his part, however unintentional, Maybelline steps in just as he's about to undo the lock.

"Uh, Mater, hold on a second. You may want to hook the prisoner up to Bessie first before you free the delinquent from his bindings," advised Maybelline, kindly.

Sheepishly embarrassed, Mater said, "Oh yeah, right."

Maybelline nudges Mater in the shoulder to console him.

"Thanks a lot," said Lightning McQueen, grudgingly as Mater hooks him up.

Grinning, Maybelline said "Wouldn't want you running away on us now, would we? And judging by your reaction that's exactly what you were going to do. But it wouldn't have mattered anyway."

"And why is that," said Lightning McQueen, agitatedly.

"Sally and the Sheriff are waiting at the county line to catch you the moment you run out of gas and drag you back here," said Maybelline.

"What?! Run out of gas! I had close to a full tank when I came here. There's no way they would've been able to catch me," said Lightning McQueen.

"That would be true except we siphoned your gas while you were passed out. So, in the end, it would've set you back in time and a waste of precious fuel," said Maybelline, fully enjoying this. "You have just enough to work each day until the job is done. You'll be given more each morning."

Lightning McQueen began to mutter intelligible words under his breath, but she, Mater, and her father got the meaning well enough.

So Lightning McQueen starts the long and arduous work on the road, slow and steady, exactly the opposite of what he's built for.

Lightning McQueen has become the new entertainment for Radiator Springs. Many of them watching Lightning McQueen sweat and strain against Bessie. Oil and tar sprinkled onto his hood much to his dismay and irritation. A couple of residents approach him to ask him questions or to simply draw him into some light conversation. Mater especially has taken a liking to this race car.

And he isn't the only one.

From her father's medical practice, Maybelline watches the race car and his slow progress from the window. She knows he's a troublemaker, but there's something intriguing about him that she can't quite shake.

Quietly coming up behind her, stoically, Doc Hudson said "I want you to stay away from that punk. He's no good for this town and the second he's done there's no doubt he's going to be taking off to compete in that dratted race of his."

Sensitively cautious, Maybelline said "Maybe he just needs the right push. It may have been decades since the last time you raced, Papa, but you're still legendary in the racing world. If you just told him who you are-."

"I don't want to hear another word about that. It's out of the question," said Doc Hudson, firmly. "I'm not going to repeat myself. Stay away from the race car. He'll be out of here soon enough."

Doc Hudson then drives off to continue his tasks around the clinic.

With one final glance toward the ever-complaining Lightning McQueen, Maybelline moves off to do the same.

Stay safe everyone. Especially with all of these crazy natural disasters occurring a lot lately due to global warming and climate change everywhere for sure. I swear it's like they're getting worse and worse all the time and it's like officials are simply just ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist entirely just to go on with their daily lives. Especially those in multi-million dollar companies that rely on certain elements of our planet that we rely on to naturally keep us safe instead of adapting and finding new safer ways to keep in business. There are so many options out there where they can adapt, but they just refuse to see it because all they care about is money. Climate change is altering so much faster than anyone can really keep track of.

So, in light of all this, it is important to live life to the fullest as much as anyone can.

I know I am. ;) See you guys next time.
