Ere' we go.

P.S all characters are over the age of 18, certain nuances will be explained at a later date. Though most have to do with how certain animals actually react in the wild.

Song home sometime later….

"You little cheat!" Snarled Chett (Red) stamping his foot down as Lucy sashayed through the kitchen head held high. Ignoring him she spun around Rhett (Blue), who was sitting arms crossed steaming with shame. Their mother chuckled, grabbing Chetts shoulders and forcing him back down into the seat.

"Hold still, lest my hand slips." She said kindly, turning the electric trimmers back on. Chett whimpered as the blades cut a neat path around his mouth. Male otters took a great deal of pride in their whiskers, as they took so long to grow that rarely did they find the need to trim them.

It was traditional in the Song house that any competition had some sort of wager or another. The how and why this particular game came about was something that had stemmed from childhood between the three siblings. None of them could remember or care, really it was something to do at the end of the day.

Thus had been the terms of the bet the siblings had been made. Every year on their birthdays (Chetts this time round) whoever won got to do whatever they wanted to the losers. Lucy hummed cheerfully, cracking open a handful of oysters and slurping back the contents.

She stuck out her tongue as he vowed a far crueler punishment next time round. Their mother shook her head amused, finishing the trim around her son's mouth giving him a matching 'goatee' like his brother had. She glanced sidelong to her daughter who was all but skipping down the hall to her room.

They had in great detail recounted how Lucy supposedly 'cheated' by getting a 'rapid monster' to interfere. She in turn retorted with how Pine (First name? Last name? her motherly intuitions tingled) had even so much as said a word to them before the brother ran off screaming. Lucy went into greater detail of just how big Pine was: how large his paws were along with just how sharp his claws felt in her hand, the gentle dark hues of brown fur that mixed into his muzzle, just how sky blue the wolverine's eyes were …

The brothers had rolled their eyes at her description. Their mother couldn't help but keenly be aware how much an impression the male had made just by saying his name. Lucy only stopped when she saw the look her mother was giving. Her daughter flushed looking away, rubbing the back of her neck embarrassed.

Ah my sweet child you've got the love bug bad …

She thought at the time of starting to trim Rhett despite his squirming.

Lucy lost her composer the moment her door closed. She dumped the open shells on the floor, even a few unopened ones that scattered across the room.

The last few hours finally catching up to her.

Holy.

Shit.

'Give me a call later, or text so I can …return the favor.'

What the actual fuck was she thinking with that? Lucy slapped a paw to her forehead groaning.

Yeah she flirted with guys in the past and tolerated a few to go on a date or two, nothing lasted. Usually from lack of commitment on either of their parts. She wasn't some stuck up bitch who wasn't open to an actual relationship with someone decent. A girl just knew what she wanted and when didn't want it. Palm to head Lucy took a deep inhale trying to calm herself. This brought all thoughts to a screeching halt.

Tentatively she sniffed the center pad of her palms; slight traces of Pines scent lingered. A breath hitched in the otter's throat, eyes fluttering letting the male's scent overload her thoughts. She inhaled again it was so faint but by the Creator was it…intoxicating.

One paw lingered at her snout while the other gently rubbed the building ache between her legs. Muffle squeaks escaped her slack jaw, breathes gradually bleeding into one another as her other paw slipped under her waistband getting a proper feeling of just how soaking wet she really-

Bzzzzzt!

Lucy froze, eyes snapping to her phone sitting on the nightstand. A new message from an unknown number. Hornyness curtailed by the certainty that throwing herslef across the room wouldn't answer the phone any faster, had Lucy calmly push away from her door. With careful steps she navigated around the haphazardly tossed shells littering her floor.

Hey.-U

That's all it said, which was more than she got out of him earlier. She assumed it was him not that a lot of people had her number to begin with. But just in case….

Pine?-L

She clamored onto her bed laying belly first on it holding the phone with both hands.

Yes.-P

Lucy giggled, biting her lower lip as she entered his name into her contacts.

Your not much of a talker are you?-L

I…have been told this.-P

Pine looked up from his phone, he had managed to catch a bus that'd take him closer to home. It'd be late by the time he got to the outskirts of the city. Not many people lived out that way but it just so happened the bus parking terminal happened to be in the same area. So it was just him and the driver, a tired eyed beaver driving along the lonely highway.

Today was pretty wild huh?-L

He never found it easy to talk, wolverines were solitary mammals only interacting when necessary. Only reason Pine owned a phone was for directions.

You certainly made it interesting.-P

He made a face not liking that reply, outside the bay could be seen going across was the mag rail lit up by a thousand coloured lights. Pine let his gaze linger on it for a good while watching as the last trains for night crossed over it.

I try ;) -L

Any plans? For tonight I mean?- L

I'm home, so that's what I'll be doing.-L

She sure was a chatty one. Pine waited for another message lest he started another and she sent one. It felt…nice doing this talking or typing it out at least.

Home for me.-P

He went to turn his phone off thinking of taking a short nap before the bus made it to the station.

Are you doing anything tomorrow?- L

Pine stared at the message as the gentle noise of the rubber across asphalt droned around him. Music played something old, classical softly just within earshot, something the driver knew parts of. He hummed out of tune but it was done happily.

No.-P

You wanna get some coffee?-L

The reply was sudden barely a second after he sent it. Pine leaned onto his thighs he suddenly felt anxious, mouth going dry tongue tasting like chalk. What was he supposed to do here? Tell her no? Make an excuse?

Sure.-P

It was like his digits moved at their own free will. Sending the message before he had a chance to rethink it.

Awesome! I'll meet you in the park around 10?- L

I'll be there.- P

Pine kicked himself mentally wishing to have had better self control.

"End of the line, bud." Called out the beaver Pines head snapped up having been so engrossed with his phone. The bus rocked as it went over several road bumps leading to the depo. A single half covered bus stop was just outside the gate. loud hisses filled the night as the door opened for him to get off. With a grunt it closed behind the wolverine, the bus driving through the gates.

Pine stood alone beneath the lonely street light above the stop. He hadn't gotten another text from…Lucy that was his name. Would have to remember that for later. He clicked his tounge shaking his head stepping off the curb. It was a long way home give him to think of-

Darkness.

He stopped cold at the edge of the cone of light. Another step and it would have consumed him. There was nothing beyond this point, his heart thundered in his ears. It was all around him pressing against the glass he could hear it cracking. A steady drop here, a subtle break there, breathes lacking oxygen. He took a step back , each lungful felt less filling than the last. Pine stumbled finding the curb.

It was around him.

In him.

Stay in the light.

There's life there.

He rocked back and forth claws digging into his shins.

Just wait a little longer, the light will come to us.

Pine would wait, he could wait until the sun came up. The wolverine would wait for the light just like he promised them he would .

Play it cool, Luc.

For what felt like the hundredth time that morning she scrutinized herself in the mirror. The otter pulled on the hem of her salmon pink blouse turning slightly as she let if fall slack. Her bust made it ride up showing a good amount of underbelly. Lucy frowned running a paw along her backside, she'd settled on a pair of jeans that hugged her hips just right.

Was it to much?

To desperate?

Ugh first impressions sucked so baaaad.

Or well second impression, then she had hardly been wearing anything at all. A gentle blush creeped as she brought her paws to her face. By the Creator she had all but flashed her tits in his face.

"What are you all dolled up for?" Groused Chett rubbing short haired chin in the doorway. He raised a brow to the seemingly hundreds of shirts, dresses and various other clothing arrivals scattered around the room. Lucy shot him a dagger filled glare picking up a brush and lobbing it at his head.

"Someone's got a daaaaaaayete!" Yelled their mother from the kitchen as he dodged the projectile. Chett picked it up preparing the chuck it back when what had just been said clicked.

"A date? When did you find time-WHAT A MINUTE!" He pointed it at his sister accusingly.

"So you were in cahoots! I knew it!"

Lucy rolled her eyes as he ran back and forth down the hall demanding a rematch. From the kitchen Rhett had half a cod in his mouth looked concerned to his mother. She shrugged flipping through the newspaper even as various objects where being hurled at her eldest at high velocity.

Wait till he realises that she's got the day off to. A smirk formed as Lucy chased her brother threating to shave more than his whiskers off.

He felt like shit.

Or at least the north side of shit.

Pine rubbed the bridge between his eyes, sleep hadn't come easy. Most of it had been outside at the bus depot. He'd woken up just as dawn cracked over the horizon. It'd taken him a better part of two hours to get back to house. All he wanted to do was fall in bed and sleep until the next day.

I'll be there.

Words burned into his brain kept him from sleeping on the floor. He took a shower, cold shocking some of the tired out of his bones. All he needed to do was tell her an excuse or even better delete the number.

I'll be there.

He was on another bus just as the sun finally broke the sky. Sweeping rays painted a shaded landscape, light refracted off thousands of mirrored glass. For a moment the entirety of Zooptia became the brightest object in the solar system.

Pine got off at the Forest Park (which was in the Forest District, on 1st Forest, named after Forest one of the founding members of Zootopia.) this time at the main entrance. Even this early hundreds of animals where getting their lives started. He was about two hours early when he stepped of the bus. The wolverine passed through the masses few looked down, or where even bothered as the mammal ducked around or between.

There was a bench away from it all someone's name was on it a memorial plaque or some other. Blue patina was built up over it's surface Pine ran his palm over the curved arms as he sat down. It was a good bench old style sloped so you could lean back in it. Not like new ones where it made you sit up made. Couldnt relax on those, couldn't even take a nap.

This was a good bench to feel like shit.

Or at least the north side of it.

Pine watched.

He liked to watch.

People that is not the other thing which is no doubt what someone would thi-

He liked to people watch.

A wolf walks past, coffee in his paw he's wearing a business suit. It's wrinkly, ties half on, bags rest heavy under his eyes. A hippo strolls down the sidewalk a grin plastered on her face. Someone must have told her that the sixties were coming back, acid washed bell bottom jeans a tie die shirt even had ridiculously large aviators to boot. A billboard of blubber and neon one could only watch in awe.

Polar opposites never to seen in the same place ever again.

There's a camal jogging briskly.

A horse argueing with a donkey over some petty race.

An otter getting out off a bus, she looks around pausing for a moment to run a paw through her head fur. Her dress is casual a pleasantly cool blouse that flutters at the tempting breeze. Green eyes like emeralds dancing as the light catches them.

He watches curiosity peaked as she made her way through the crowd. Every few feet little brown ears peaked out in places, other times she even stood on the tips of her toes as if she looking for someone. Someone must have seen her by now, surely. Who wouldn't be looking for a beauty like her? Pine sighed inwardly letting his eyes close dropping his head down.

I'll be here…

"Hey!"

He looked up.

Paws behind her back looking at him expectantly. She rubbed the under side of her jaw looking away embarrassed tail swishing like a fan on the ground. Pine couldn't speak his mouth opened, words failed him.

Then the sun rose behind him breaking through the treeline.

She smiled.

For the second time that day there was something in that solar system that rivaled the brightness of the sun.
