Chapter 45 Fishing Contest

The Fishing Contest is in full swing, with a 20-minute time limit ticking away. Ash has been busy, capturing several Pokémon, but he's also faced his share of challenges. With only 9 Pokémon caught out of 29 Fishing Balls used, Ash finds himself down to his final ball. "Great, I've only got one more... what should I choose?" he mutters, scanning the waters.

Just then, a sudden blur of motion catches his eye. Before he can react, a Pokémon rushes toward him, slamming into him with a hard tackle that sends him sprawling onto the sand. "Oww... what's going on?" Ash groans, looking up in surprise.

To his astonishment, the Pokémon speaks, "I finally found you, Ash! I've missed you so much!"

Ash gasps as he recognizes the voice and the familiar face. "Wait, are you Corphish?" he exclaims, holding the Pokémon in his arms. "What are you doing in the Fishing Contest?"

Corphish, now evolved and looking slightly different, explains, "I don't know what happened. I got caught by the staff here, and they put me in the contest. Can you get me out of here, please?"

Ash sighs with a smile, glad to have found his old friend. "Sure thing, Corphish." But as he examines the Pokémon, now known as Crablue, an idea sparks in his mind. "Hey, how about you help me win the contest?"

Crablue nods eagerly, and with a confident smile, Ash throws his final Fishing Ball, capturing Crablue once again. With his Pokémon secured, Ash heads to the registration building to submit his entry.

After all the participants have finished, the receptionist announces, "We will now judge the Pokémon you have placed here that belong to this area." The anticipation builds as the judges examine the entries. Finally, the receptionist declares, "We have chosen the winner! The winner of the contest is... Our Prince Ash, who caught a sparkling Crablue! The score is 341 points!"

Applause erupts from the crowd as Ash makes his way to the stage. The receptionist hands him his prize, a set of four evolution stones. "Here is your prize," the receptionist says, and Ash gratefully accepts the stones.

"Thank you," Ash replies, turning to Crablue with a smile. "Crablue, thanks for helping me out."

Crablue, ever the playful one, shakes Ash's hand—but a bit too enthusiastically. The powerful shake sends Ash flying into the sand, much to the amusement of everyone watching.

Back with the group, Alice comments, "That's a really nice Crablue."

Ash, brushing sand off himself, laughs. "Yeah, it turns out Crablue was my old friend, Corphish." Pikachu's ears perk up in surprise. "Corphish?"

Crablue nods, smiling at Pikachu. "You haven't changed a bit, Pikachu."

After the excitement of the Fishing Contest, Ash decides to check out the Pokémon he captured. Lining them up, he sees four Guppish, three Jellitot, a Parasea, a Surfide, and of course, Crablue.

"Wow, you caught a lot of them!" Alice says, clearly impressed by the variety of Water-type Pokémon Ash managed to reel in.

"Yeah, I did pretty well," Ash replies with a grin as he pulls out his Pokédex to scan the Pokémon.

Guppish: The Attuning Pokémon. Water Type. Years of evolution have made Guppish capable of evolving into several forms. There are still ancient Guppish out in the sea that have yet to evolve.

Reisa, standing nearby, is equally impressed. "Guppish is one of the rarest Pokémon in the Fishing Contest, and you managed to catch four of them! This might even be a new record."

Mark, observing the lineup, nods in agreement. "I can tell. It's pretty amazing, Ash."

Ash smiles, pleased with his success and the positive reactions from his friends. "It looks like all that fishing paid off."

Jellitot (M): The Cool Jelly Pokémon. Water Type. Jellitot, with their soft and light bodies, simply go along with the ocean's currents. They sometimes wash up onto the shores of many beaches around Rikoto.

Jellitot (F): The Sting Jelly Pokémon. Water Type. Jellitot's body mainly consists of water. While they can survive in most climates, extreme heat or cold can cause them to become fatigued.

Ash looks thoughtfully at the two Jellitot. "It's just like with Nidoran. Both Pokémon look different and are similar in some ways, but they have their own unique characteristics."

He then turns to Alice, a warm smile on his face. "You know, Alice, I want to give you this male Jellitot. It can evolve into an Ice-type Pokémon, which I think would be perfect for you."

Alice gasps in surprise, touched by the gesture. "You're giving it to me?" she asks, her eyes shining. Overwhelmed with gratitude, she thanks Ash by leaning in and giving him a gentle kiss on the cheek. "Thank you so much, Ash!" she says, her voice filled with warmth.

She then looks down at her new Jellitot, smiling as she thinks of a name. "I'll name you Jello," Alice declares, gently patting the Jellitot, who seems to bounce happily in response.

Parasea: The Paradise Pokémon. Water and Grass Type. Parasea kindly allows smaller Pokémon to perch on its back when crossing the ocean. Few dare to attack it due to its gentle nature and strong fins.

Alice looks at Parasea, her eyes softening. "I think Lapras would get along really well with this Pokémon," she says, imagining the two gentle giants side by side.

Ash nods in agreement, smiling at the thought. "Yeah, they both have that protective and caring nature. It would be nice to see them together."

Surfide: The Surfer Pokémon. Water Type. Surfide go to great lengths to decorate their surfboards, which are made out of planks. The more intricately a board is decorated, the more respect it garners among fellow Surfide.

Delia smiles as she watches Ash examine Surfide. "You know, Wade's first Pokémon in this region was also a Surfide, and it's his strongest one."

Ash's eyes light up with determination. "Then I'll train this Surfide to be just as strong as Wade's. Maybe even stronger."

Crablue: The Pincer Pokémon. Water Type. Crablue hone their pincers against rocks near the shores. If one finds a rock with many U-shaped gouges on it, it means that a Crablue colony is nearby.

Ash's face lights up with recognition as he looks at Crablue. "And this Pokémon is actually Corphish. Which means I've got another one of my former partners back on my team," he says, clearly pleased.

Alice nods, impressed. "Corphish is exceptional in its ability to survive. It can adapt to any environment, driving out the inhabitants and claiming the territory as its own. It sounds like you had a really strong Pokémon in the past."

Ash smiles, remembering his adventures with Corphish. "Yeah, Corphish was always tough and determined. I'm glad to have him back, especially now as Crablue."

Reisa watches as Ash takes out his prize bag, her curiosity piqued. "So, what's your prize?" she asks.

Ash opens the bag and peers inside. "Let's see... There's a Leaf Stone, an Air Stone, an Ice Stone, and a Dawn Stone."

Reisa's eyes widen in surprise. "Seriously? Those four stones are capable of evolving Guppish."

Ash looks up, intrigued. "Wait, you mean Guppish has more than one evolution?"

"Exactly," Reisa confirms with a nod. "You can use each stone on a Guppish to see what they evolve into."

Delia chimes in with a smile. "Why not give it a try, Ash? It's a rare opportunity to see such diverse evolutions."

With a determined nod, Ash uses each stone on the four Guppish. One by one, the Guppish begin to glow and transform, evolving into four different Pokémon. Alice gasps in amazement as the new forms take shape. "This is incredible..."

Eqwater: The Symbiosis Pokémon. Water and Grass Type. Evolved from Guppish with a Leaf Stone. Eqwater's skin is stained green from the algae it uses for protection and nutrients from photosynthesis. It prefers tropical waters where algae is plentiful.

Glydfin: The Skipping Pokémon. Water and Flying Type. Evolved from Guppish with an Air Stone. Glydfin glide quickly and carefully just above the water. Swarms of them skip across the sea between seasons, migrating to regions with the appropriate climate.

Seagic: The Mirage Pokémon. Water and Fairy Type. Evolved from Guppish with a Dawn Stone. Seagic create mirages as a form of entertainment for their fellow Pokémon, though from time to time, some unfortunate people may fall into their illusions.

Orcail: The Arctic Pokémon. Water and Ice Type. Evolved from Guppish with an Ice Stone. Orcail is well-adapted to cold waters. It has an extra layer of fat to keep warm and to crush ice drifts where its prey may hide.

Alice marvels at the diverse evolutions. "This is amazing... Four Pokémon, each from the same species, but so different."

Ash nods, still in awe. "Yeah, it's incredible. I'm definitely going to befriend all four of them."

Reisa smiles at Ash's enthusiasm. "You're really lucky to have such unique Pokémon. Now that the contest is over, I'm heading back to the beach. I'll see you all later."

The group bids farewell to Reisa, thanking her for the fun experience. As she walks away, Ash looks down at his new Pokémon, already thinking about the adventures they'll share together.

After their adventure at the Fishing Contest, Ash and Alice decide to head to the Pokémon Center to take care of a few quests. As they enter, they notice a boy standing near the entrance, looking a bit dejected.

"It's such a shame I couldn't catch a Guppish in the Fishing Contest," the boy says with a sigh. "I had some stones that I could've used to evolve one into something special. Are you, by any chance, planning to go to the Fishing Contest?"

Ash, surprised by the boy's enthusiasm, replies, "We just came back from there."

The boy's eyes light up with excitement. "That's fantastic! I have a big favor to ask. I really want to see a Guppish, but unfortunately, my fishing rod is broken, so I couldn't participate in the contest. I noticed you have some fishing rods. If you could show me a Guppish, I'd be really grateful. I'll even give you a great reward!"

Ash and Alice exchange glances, recalling how they had already evolved all their Guppish. "Well," Ash begins hesitantly, "we've already evolved our four Guppish... Would you be okay with seeing their evolved forms instead?"

The boy's face brightens, and he nods eagerly. "That's okay! I'd love to see them. You know, some Pokémon evolve through different adaptations and requirements, just like Eevee. Thank you for showing me these Pokémon."

Ash and Alice smile as they release the four evolved Pokémon—Eqwater, Glydfin, Seagic, and Orcail. The boy's eyes widen with awe as he admires each one, clearly fascinated by their unique forms.

"These are amazing," the boy says, visibly moved. "Thank you so much for sharing them with me."

Since Ash and Alice didn't have a Guppish to show, they didn't receive a reward, but the boy was satisfied nonetheless and left with a smile. As they continued through the Pokémon Center, they soon encountered a fisherman who seemed eager to talk.

"I'm a big fan of Water-type Pokémon!" the fisherman exclaimed. "I've heard of a blue-colored Pokémon with claws... It's known for being able to learn Crabhammer, one of my favorite moves! But I just can't remember its name... Would you happen to have one and show it to me?"

Ash immediately knew which Pokémon the fisherman was talking about. "You're thinking of Crablue," he said with a grin.

Ash released Crablue from its Poké Ball, and the fisherman's eyes lit up with recognition and excitement. "Wow! This is it! It's a Crablue! How could I forget its name, haha!" The fisherman laughed heartily. "Thank you so much for showing me one of my favorite Pokémon! Here, take this as a reward."

The fisherman handed Ash a TM for Rock Smash, a move perfect for breaking rocks on their journey.

"This will come in handy," Ash said, pocketing the TM. "Thanks!"

"Hey, guys!" a familiar voice calls out. Ash, Alice, and the others turn to see Mark and Keira approaching them.

Keira smiles as she reaches them. "I heard from Mark that you entered the Fishing Contest. How did it go, Ash?"

"It went great," Ash replies, but then his curiosity gets the better of him. "But what's going on, and why are you two together?"

Mark quickly steps in to explain. "Professor Pinewood is here in Waytide City. He wanted us to find you because he has something important to tell us—something about Team Solar and Team Lunar."

Ash's expression darkens at the mention of the two villainous teams. "Team Solar and Team Lunar..." he mutters, his voice tinged with concern. Nearby, Delia visibly flinches at the names, her own worries resurfacing.

Keira, sensing the urgency, quickly adds, "Hurry! He's at the aquarium, and Rodney and Wade are there too!"

Without another word, the group rushes off toward the aquarium, eager to hear what Professor Pinewood has to say about the looming threat of Team Solar and Team Lunar.

The fishing contest is similar to the National Park in the Johto that replaces the Bug catching contest to that, so if you want to get more evolution stones, here is the place. I hope you like it.
