A/N: Hey guys! So sorry it took forever for an update! I got distracted and started drafting another story and then between school and work things have just been crazy!
Aliya sat on an exam table in the same underground lab that she and Helena had inadvertently discovered during their first escape attempt. She was surrounded by various medical equipment and the teen was shaking in anticipation. Matthew had promised her that soon, she wouldn't need her serum to keep her alive.
"Alright, Aliya, are we ready to begin?" Matthew asks as he came to her side, making the teen turn her head to look at him.
"Yeah, I think so," she nods, "what is it that you're gonna do?" She asks, squinting at him through the bright lights that were shining down on her.
"We need to do some transfusions and even inject more of the virus into you to see what we're dealing with. The procedure is going to be painful, so we need to put you to sleep for it, okay?"
Aliya nodded as a doctor put an oxygen mask over her nose and mouth, instructing her to breathe in the anesthesia, which she did and finally allowed herself to dose off.
Helena anxiously paced around hers and Aliya's room, growing increasingly anxious by the minute as the time went on. She hated how they wouldn't let her come with them to oversee their testing on Aliya. For all she knew, they were going to kill her as soon as they got what they needed. That's what Natalia had wanted before she died. She did not trust these people at all.
Helena was solely responsible for Aliya now that Leon was gone, and she wasn't going to lose Aliya too. Helena looked around the room, trying to see if she could find a way to escape and contact HQ. Her plan was to escape and reach the radio tower to contact HQ and she would then return to Aliya and wait for evac.
Helena went over to the window and tried to open it, only for the window to be sealed shut. Okay, so the window wasn't going to work. Helena searched through every nook and cranny of the room, hoping to find some kind of secret passage but coming up empty.
Helena jumped as she heard the door handle turning and she rushed to the vanity, grabbing the vase from it, and hiding in the corner behind where the door would open. She was going to take every chance she could to escape.
Helena waited patiently, her heart beating a mile a minute as she saw the door slowly open, and she could tell as the person stepped in that it was Lida. Helena didn't particularly want to do this since out of everyone she had met in the last forty-eight hours, Lida seemed to be the least corrupt.
The agent waited until Lida was completely in the room with her back turned before she ran at the scientist, breaking the glass vase over the woman's head and Lida immediately crumpling to the ground.
Helena dropped the remaining part of the vase and searched Lida's person, finding the keys for the front door and rushing out of the room. The agent ran as fast as she could down the spiral staircase and out the big mahogany doors and she didn't stop running until she had put as much distance between herself and the mansion as possible.
Helena finally stopped once she reached a clearing, holding her cramping side as she fought to catch her breath, stumbling through the woods as the various sticks and rocks cut up her bare feet. Helena had no idea where she was going, her only objective in her mind was to find the cabin because if she found the cabin, then she could find the radio tower.
Helena didn't know how long she had been walking when she fell to the muddy ground, just needing to stop and catch her breath.
Matthew had been in the middle of his experiment on Aliya when he was told that Helena had gone AWOL and nearly killed Lida in the process. Matthew had immediately dropped everything that he was doing and rushed upstairs where Lida was being looked over by another doctor.
"Lida, are you okay?" He asks as he approached Lida, who was currently being stitched up after needing pieces of glass picked out of her skin.
"Yes, I'm fine. She obviously didn't want to kill me, or she would have." Lida says, taking the ice pack from the doctor and placing it against her stitches to keep any swelling down, "Sir? What are we going to do? It's only a matter of time before she's found and if she gets found, then the child gets found." She adds, standing on shaky legs and approaching Matthew.
"Oh, don't you worry about that, Lida," he says, taking his phone out and keying in a series of letters and numbers.
"Why shouldn't we worry?"
"Oh, she'll come back," he starts, showing his phone to Lida, "she's under my control."
Helena groaned as she sat up from the wet, muddy ground. She didn't know how long she had lost consciousness for, but she knew it had been for some time since it had still been lit out and now it was pitch black, the only light that helped her see was the lightning flashes across the dark sky. Helena keeled over into another coughing fit, yet again coughing up more blood.
"Jesus Christ, I need to get out of here," she says to herself, slowly getting up but stopping when pain shot through her head, forcing her back to the ground.
"Return to me,"
Helena shook her head, "no I'm not doing that," she says as she got up again, jumping as she heard twigs snap and a figure came into view, shining a bright light into her face.
"Agent Harper? Thank God, everyone's worried about you! Especially Leon." The agent exclaimed as he put his gun away. Helena finally recognized him as Ramirez, and she had never been so happy to see him in her life.
"Leon? I thought he was dead." She says, doubling over and coughing up more blood.
"Oh, he almost did but he's back home recovering," Ramirez says as he leaned down next to her, "Hunnigan, we found Agent Harper."
"Is she alright?"
"Well, she's coughing up blood but other than that she seems okay, just very out of it."
Helena breathed heavily as Ramirez conversed with Hunnigan, keeling over as another debilitating headache ripped through her.
"Kill him."
"You shouldn't have come here," she says through the pain as she tried to fight Matthew's voice in her head.
" Send me your coordinates and I'll arrange for evac."
"Copy," Ramirez says, briefly looking away from Helena and not noticing her reach for his gun.
Ramirez noticed that Helena grabbed his gun too late and no amount of scrambling for it would have helped him since Helena had quickly moved away from him, firing one round into his leg to incapacitate him.
"Agent Harper?" He asks through the pain, looking up at her as she approached.
"You shouldn't have come here," she says, firing three more rounds into Ramirez, two in his chest and one in the head, watching as his body fell to the ground. Helena dropped the gun from her hands next to the body and stumbled back into the woods.
"Come back to me."
Helena groaned as she tried to shake the voice from her head but found she couldn't ignore it no matter how much she wanted to. Her feet carried her all the way back to the mansion and no amount of resisting worked.
Helena stumbled into the main foyer where Matthew was already waiting for her, smirking as he saw her. Helena's dark hair was soaked and clinging to her face, her clothes covered in mud and blood, clinging to her petite frame as they mixed with the water and dripped onto the marble floor.
Helena looked up as Matthew approached, finally snapping out of her daze as she looked up at him, not expecting for him to slap her across the face with enough force to knock her to the floor, hitting her head against the wall.
"Where's Aliya?" She asks through clenched teeth, trying to think straight through the pain.
"She's resting and it's to stay that way. You are not to speak to her about what happened tonight. Do I make myself clear?" He asks, leaning down so that his face was inches from hers.
Helena only responded when he slapped her again, "Yes, I understand."
"Good," Matthew says as he stood up straight, "now go get cleaned up, you look like hell."
Helena groaned as she painfully sat up and watched as Matthew walked away, leaving her confused. She didn't understand what had happened, but it was like she was under some sort of mind control and the memory was blurry.
One thing she knew for certain from her brief interaction with Ramirez was that Leon was alive.
Leon was alive and she was going to do everything in her power to get out of there.
