Girls, Gillettes and Gore part 4

Joe's pov

My Lori had finally caved, despite not being that into horror movies

"I guess watching the movies would be beneficial for the sake of the case..."

I wrapped my arm around her

"It actually would, you might notice things I didn't"

She scoffed playfully

"Things you've missed the first trillion times?"

I shrugged sheepishly

"Fresh pair of eyes and all..."

She eyed me suspiciously

"Riiight... Let's begin, then."

A few hours later, we had gotten to the cafeteria scene in the second film, which for some unexplained reason involved a serenade. I scoffed

"That's ironically the part that gives me the bad heebie jeebies more than anything before or after it."

She eyed me slack-jawed

"MORE than the opening of the first one?"

I nodded

"And more than certain moments in 4, 5 and 6"

She shook her head

"You're impossible."

I was about to give a witty reply when I was cut off by my phone ringing. Lori shook her head at me

"Programming your phone to jump-scare call like that after making me watch these movies? Not funny, Joe."

I shook my head

"Wasn't me, wasn't on purpose. And I wouldn't do that. Lori... It's most likely the Ghostface copycat. And somehow, whoever it is, is using my Dad's old phone, must've taken it from evidence. Maybe another dirty cop..."

Just seeing the same face on my phone screen that I saw in picture albums, my own walls, and behind my Grandpa's desk at 1PP made a lump grow in my throat, but I knew that whoever was on the other end was just using his number to throw me off, and was most likely the copycat. Putting the phone on speaker, I spoke, Lori ready to start tracing and recording the call

"Hello?"

As I suspected, whoever was behind this was hiding behind the fan-favorite voice modulator using sound bites from all 6 movies, with the voice of Roger L. Jackson, aka Ghostface. The app also had a mode that allowed the user to apply Jackson's voice over their own words, both features being used by our caller. The all-too-familiar voice drawled out

"Detective Hill, so nice to finally meet you. Officially, that is. I've been watching you and your loved ones for a while now. Your mother Paula, your dead daddy Detective Reagan, your brother Connor, your girlfriend and work partner Lori, I bet she's with you. Her sister Lois... Henry Reagan, Frank Reagan, Danny Reagan, Erin Reagan, Jamie Reagan, Eddie Janko-Reagan, Nicky Reagan- Boyle, Sean Reagan and Jack Reagan. How am I doing?"

Getting angry, I spat out

"What do you want?"

In all honesty, I should've known that uncoincidentally quoting Casey Becker from the original would only grant me the original reply

"I wanna play a game!"

Rolling my eyes, I replied sarcastically.

"Original. Let me guess. You ask the question, I get it wrong, I die. I get it right, I die. How am I doing?"

The voice chuckled

"You know your stuff. Scream movie trivia, on and offscreen."

I spoke

"Easy."

His or her hum of contemplation sent a chill up my spine

"For you, yes, perhaps. But Detective King has to play too. I know she's next to you."

She tensed next to me and I spoke

"You're bluffing"

The copycat

"She's trembling at my voice even though your leather jacket is swallowing her whole. Scream 2 is paused on your TV right after the cafeteria scene."

Lori whimpered, and I squeezed her hand and spoke into the phone

"Let's play."
