Chapter 3- the Dark Age continues and Quaoar's community
The Dark Age continues
Shortly after fleeing Goldleaf Vilage after the army of Terlmarines overran it and burned it to the ground, the surviving Goldleaf refugees, among them Leia, now a widow, with her newborn cubs Quaoar and Siveth, fled to different destinations up and down the country of Narnia with many of them running to destinations far away from their original home such as the Western Woods and Beaversdam. Some of the refugees even fled to the Bifrost Transporter to flee to other Domains, the destruction of their village being the final straw for them. Leia and her two cubs, however, went into hiding with Quaoar and Siveth where she raised the Kitsumiho twins until they were weaned. However, she eventually had them transferred into the care of someone else for their safety and had hoped that both of them would grow into sensible and wise Magical Foxes like their father did before them.
The Dark Age continued for a good number of Narnian centuries and over this big time period, the changes continued, most of them deterioration. Intellectual darkness had come over much of the country despite the wisest Talking Beast and Magical Creatures' best efforts to keep the belief and Aslan and the history of Narnia alive. Heretics from some of the other Domains such as the Noodle-and-Meatball Monsters continued to bring in heresies, among them the atheistic evolution story, into the country and over time, divisions between Talking Beast and Magical Creature groups took place. Many of these heretics were sly and slick, able to fly under the radars of even the most watchful leaders tasked with keeping the groups of Talking Beasts and Magical Creatures they had been entrusted with on the right doctrine track. Not only that, economic prosperity continued to decline and along with it, social cohesion. Eventually, in some areas of the Narnian country, it decayed so much that anarchy had taken hold with Talking Beasts and Magical Creatures doing things right in their own eyes. More and more of them continued to turn their backs on Aslan to go their own way and soon, learning and education became compromised, especially with the heresies brought in by the intrusive heretics. Despite the social decay, some of the wise Talking Beasts and Magical Creatures continued to search for a suitable king or even a queen to take over the Pevensies' throne. Their search eventually drove them to look into Archenland and Calormen until eventually, a king was chosen from those places. From then on, various kings and queens were selected from those two countries and sometimes even within Narnia. One of the queens was Queen Swanwhite but still, the line of kings and queens was messy. Also during the Dark Age, Aslan's How was constructed to preserve the monument of the broken Stone Table. Some of the nations part of the Narnian country, such as the Lone Islands and the Sea Nations, among them the Sea-Fish People, fell into isolation, especially the Sea-Fish People for the Telmarines, who kept their sporadic intrusions going, seemed to despise them and saw them as shapeshifting sea monsters who seduced people to their destruction. The Giants of the North also lost their society, falling into moral and societal decay. It truly was a messy time period for everyone in Narnia and it was not just in the country.
Despite the ongoing Dark Age, Quaoar and Siveth continued to grow through their stages like many other Magical Foxes such as their parents Branco and Leia did before them. With each century starting from 200 years, they gained a tail and as they grew, they received education in a wide variety of subjects from various teachers and mentors, such as astronomy, biology of various Narnian world creatures including their species, the Magical Fox, real Narnian history and Aslan, farming, architecture and art. The twins also learned to develop and control their powers and skills such as telekinesis, foxfire and fire breath, as well as combat skills like swordfighting and using bows and arrows, and also building and Quaoar even helped to build Aslan's How for some months. Additionally, Siveth married a male full-blooded Kitsune and had a few cubs with him while Quaoar went off on his own adventures to teach other creatures about Aslan as a single Fox, having decided against marrying and having his own family like his sister and not wanting the responsibility of marriage and parenthood interfering with his tasks and help to keep faith in Aslan and the true doctrine alive in the land of social and doctrinal decay though he had to deal with some heretics. He had also saved a human princess pledged to be married to a human prince from being lured away by a dangerous being called the Gentleman of the Grey Three-Piece Suit (who was a warlock and seen as a male version of the Lady of the Green Kirtle) who was known to lure away young women and seduce them. Quaoar's saving of the princess had earned him the respect from the princess' people as a hero which he took humbly. In addition, Quaoar made a few close friends, among them a female Nekomata named Naihanchi who was descended from the now-deceased Nekomata Kushanku through his and his second wife Padparadscha "Paddy's" only son Peter, named by Kushanku and Paddy after the High King during the Golden Age. As the centuries passed, the two Kitsumiho grew in knowledge and wisdom; continued to gain more tails per century and eventually, by the Narnian year 1976, 22 years before the full Telmarine invasion on the country of Narnia, both Quaoar and Siveth reached their 900th birthday. As they turned 900, they gained their ninth tails and transformed into their Nine-Tailed forms. However, Siveth's husband had died from a disease and Siveth had refused to marry again to continue her work in teaching schools of young Talking Beasts about Aslan now that her grown cubs had moved on and had wanted to spend the rest of her life teaching young Talking Beasts about Aslan without the interruption of a spouse like her brother. After all, it was important to keep the knowledge about Aslan and the truth of Narnia's history but still, even more Narnians continued to lose interest and turn away from the true doctrine of Aslan and follow more 'interesting' doctrines that itching ears loved to hear. Some of the doctrines promoted a false Aslan aimed at the listeners and made it about them and not Aslan himself. Further, the Golden Age events including Aslan's death on the Stone Table and resurrection and vanquishing of the White Witch, and even Aslan himself faded from fact to mere myth. Anarchy and social decay continued to increase more and more in many parts of the country including crime, so much so that a justice system had been set up to deal with them, albeit not very well due to no effective king to help in this area. Eventually, the task in keeping the truth about Aslan alive became more and more cut out for Quaoar, Siveth and other dedicated teachers like Naihanchi who found it important to continue with Kushanku's legacy. However, when some of Kushanku's descendants left the true doctrine about Aslan and the history of Narnia as a whole to follow the lies of false doctrines brought in by heretics such as the Noodle-and-Meatball Monsters including Naihanchi's own family, Naihanchi was heartbroken and soon joined Quaoar and Siveth in continuing the task. It truly was a difficult job but there was worse to come and worse happening even here and now in one or two other Domains.
Narnian Year 1990
In one part of the Western Woods, a group of Narnian creatures lived like refugees in a makeshift village consisting of a few dens and trees. Somewhere in these woods the ruins of Gandalf and Seresute's underground base which was built before the Age of Winter hundreds of years ago now lay in ruins and was completely inaccessible. In this little community a variety of Talking Beasts and Magical Creatures such as Centaurs, Elaphocentaurs, Curupira and Dwarfs lived. There were a number of other communities living in the Woods and also in the other areas of the country of Narnia and though the country currently had a human king on the throne (albeit poorly chosen), many of these communities lived by their own set of rules and did what they saw fit. Thus they had established their own justice and judge system and unfortunately, many of them did not use a very solid basis for this area for many of them had pretty much forgotten all about Aslan and his laws over the centuries of the Dark Age, especially with the super-important History of Narnia and Aslan book, the equivalent to the Bible in our world, had been swept aside. However, a few communities still remembered Aslan and had kept the Narnia History book and thus had a more solid foundation for their justice system despite the loss of social order and the increasing anarchy up and down the country, and this community in the Woods was one of them. In this community lived Quaoar, one of the twin children of the late Branco the Kumiho and his now-late Kitsune wife Leia and he served as part of the community's judge system.
The members of the community went about their daily lives. Their makeshift homes were mostly dens and hollowed out tree stumps, hollows, logs and a nearby cave, the very same cave Seresute and her group took refuge for the rest of the Age of Winter until the Winter Revolution and the Dawn of Spring. Normally, the members of the community had been respectful to each other but that was not to say that trouble arose with some of them. At the entrance of one of the burrows, a Badger and a Hedgehog were disposing of some food waste from a meal they and their den-mates had just had when suddenly, several balls of mud flew in their direction and splattered against the upper lip of the den entrance to the anger of the pair.
"OOOI!" the Badger yelled while the Hedgehog looked on in annoyance. Then a Mole came out and was struck in the face by another mud ball, the brown dirt sphere exploding on contact. The Digging Critter erupted into a coughing and spitting fit as pieces of mud got into his eyes and mouth. As he coughed and spat, several small young Humanoids and a Primate appeared and chortled at the Mole.
"Ironic considering the fact that you can dig burrows, Digger Boy," cackled one of the Humanoids, a Red Dwarf. This Dwarf was a male and a juvenile due to him having no facial hair. Only adult male Dwarfs had beards while females lacked facial hair throughout their lives. As the young Dwarf and three other Red Dwarfs, also male juveniles, a male Curupira based on his red hair and a female Brownie continued laughing at the INCREDIBLY irate Badger, Hedgehog and Mole, the Primate, a female Lemur, appeared with a sack clutched in her semi-prehensile tail. An angry voice exploded from behind the group and they whipped round at the shouter, naughty smirks plastering their faces.
"HEY, give back my BAG of FAMILY HEIRLOOM VALUABLES!" yelled a Hare, a female. immediately, the group of four young Dwarfs, Curupira, Brownie and Lemur launched into a sprint to escape the enraged Big Rabbit, cackles exploding from their mouths. The Hare and several of her daughters pursued them alongside the Badger, Hedgehog and several Songbirds including a Roachcutter, a type of Flutterbird.
The thieving group continued running through the woods, the Lemur clutching the Hare's bag of valuable family heirloom items, knocking down several members of a wood-gathering group including a Centaur carrying some logs obtained from a non-Dryad tree for firewood. The Horse-Humanoid reared up onto his hind legs as the Curupira deliberately struck his front to get him to move and he dropped some of the logs, narrowly burying a few Talking Mice and a Pika under them to their UTMOST annoyance. The Centaur looked on in UTMOST outrage as the chattering group continued their escape. However, they did not get very far when suddenly, a spinning disc appeared and slammed into the ground right in front of them, stopping them in their tracks. The four Dwarfs, Curupira, Brownie and Lemur gazed at the spinning disc which was a pair of flat round rocks glued together with a sticking paste and a strong string wound around their middle and connected to the currently unseen holder sawed a small hole in the ground. This double disc acted like a toy called a yoyo in our world but this was no toy. It was a weapon but can also be used to startle targets into stopping.
"Hold it right THERE, you pack of DELINQUENTS!" the voice of the holder exploded. The four Red Dwarf and Curupira boys and the Brownie and Talking Lemur girls looked up at the owner of the double-disc. A large red-orange bird, its talon clutching the end of the string to the spinning double disc which was a flywheel, swooped in, pulled on the string and pulled the spinning flywheel back toward it, allowing it to catch the flywheel in its foot. The thieving group shot the large bird, which resembled a Phoenix but was larger, had vivid red-orange feathers, more orange wing and tail feather tips and a large crest on its head, a stunned look when suddenly, several more creatures rushed in. A Giant came in and scooped up all seven of the naughty kids in his arms and Cat with two tails flew in by spinning its two tails, seized the bag containing the Hare's treasures from the Lemur and handed it back to the Talking Hare, who gratefully took it and left. The red-orange Bird holding the flywheel, which was female and called a Vermillion Bird, one of the Four Noble Cardinal Creatures (males had longer tail feathers and some blue in their plumage) then eyed the Giant.
"Take those seven to Quaoar, Thumper," she ordered. The Giant named Thumper nodded and obediently left, carrying the group of squirming naughty kids in his arms. As he did that, the Nekomata who was also a female, went over to check the Centaur who was struck by the Curupira and also the Talking Mice and Pika who were nearly struck by the falling logs to ensure none of them were hurt. This Nekomata had a very colourful pelage (fur) with metallic red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, yellow and silver smothering it. Patches of duller grey patches interspersed these shining colours. One of her ancestors' relatives, Alexandrite, had colourful fur and her ability to fly with her two tails, a skill that only a few Nekomata could learn and use, was inherited from her ancestor Kushanku. Another trait she had inherited from Kushanku was long white head hair which was expressive when the Nekomata was startled, angry or frightened but unlike Kushanku, whose hair was short, the Nekomata's head hair extended down past her shoulders to midway down her back. The hare was so long that she had kept them tied in braids and ponytails. Her eyes were golden yellow similar to most Cat species. She certainly was a colourful Nekomata and she also harboured some quite unique skills almost none of her ancestors had. Like almost all of her ancestors, she had the ability of telekinesis but she can use it on her braided hair as we shall see later.
As the colourful, long haired Nekomata checked over the near-casualties from the logs while the Centaur and a Sasquatch or Bigfoot re-gathered the dropped logs, the Sasquatch explained assuredly, "None of those Rodents or the Pika have been hurt, Naihanchi."
"Yes, we were a paw-'s length away from serious injury when Stonehoof dropped those logs," said a Talking Mouse angrily.
"Quaoar is dealing with them now while Crimsonandil has returned that Hare's treasures," said the Nekomata named Naihanchi. Small smiles formed on the Centaur, the Sasquatch, the Mice and the Pika's faces at this good news while nearby, the Hare returned with her family and returned to their den with their heirloom treasures back in their possession, the Vermillion Bird with the flywheel, Crimsonandil, looking on.
Sometime later, the four Red Dwarfs, the Curupira, the Brownie and the Talking Lemur were put to work in helping with firewood and keeping the area clean as punishment for their acts of stealing, causing a disturbance and nearly injuring some of the Talking Mice and the Pika. The group was UTTERLY sour-faced as they continued their jobs, some older Dwarfs, Curupira and Brownies looking over them and making sure that they didn't stop. The Talking Lemur had her father looking over her as she tidied up some discarded sticks and leaves scraped away from the logs of the fallen non-Dryad trees for they had little use as firewood but possibly had use for other things. As the seven delinquent Creatures continued their labour, Naihanchi looked on as a male Nine-Tailed Fox walked in. This Fox was a Kitsune-Kumiho hybrid or Kitsumiho indicated by the combination of both Kumiho and common Kitsune fur colours in his pelage. While Nine-Tailed Kumiho had white fur with silver and metallic ice blue and cyan markings and Kitsune, ivory yellow with metallic yellow patches, this Fox had both of those traits in his fur. Most of the Fox's body was ivory yellow and his feet were metallic yellow as though he had dipped them into metallic yellow paint. A metallic yellow patch adorned his back. The Fox's head was white and he had a metallic ice blue patch around his left eye. His left ear was white and his right ear was metallic ice blue with a silver tip. His tails were oddly coloured as well with five of them being ivory and tipped metallic yellow and four being white tipped with metallic icy blue and silver. The ivory tails were, from the Fox's left to right, tails one, three, four, five and nine, and the white tails were two, six and seven. In his pre-Nine-Tailed form, the Fox had both red and bluish fur with metallic red and blue patches as the Kitsune and Kumiho genes of his heritage had mixed together and expressed on different parts of his body.
"Subjects successfully apprehended and neutralised, Quaoar," said Naihanchi to the Kitsumiho whose name was Quaoar, the son of Branco the Kumiho and Leia the Kitsune.
"Excellent, Naihanchi," replied he, "And they will be doing that for the next month. Behaviour like THAT is NOT tolerated."
Naihanchi nodded and with that, the Nekomata and the Kitsumiho turned and left to meet with some of the others forming the Justice Enforcement group (which also served as the community's de facto leaders who also discussed updates). The group consisted of a male Black Tortoise named Morla, a female Azure Dragon named Moana, a White Tiger named Aang, a married Fenghuang (Rainbow Phoenix) couple named Adamans and Iridia and a Raiju named Thunderbolt who was descended from one of Thundersparx's brothers who had left the little village of Green Leaf to avoid joining Jadis' area after his father, Lightningflash, had won the bloody Massacre Event. Though Thindersparx had left no descendants of his own as he had chosen not to pair up, his siblings had. A few other members of the group included a Pegasus Stallion descended from Milky Way and Rainbow Quartz named Spock (who shared Rainbow Quartz's colourful feathers albeit with fewer colours, the trait having faded over the generations. However, he still sported brilliant white fur with a metallic sheen, sort of like a cloud) and a male Chroma Cat named Caesium. Chroma Cats were the most colourful of the Cats and had colours that did not exist in the palette of other Cats including Lions and in many individuals, the facial markings can even resemble those of Parrots such as Macaws. Caesium's fur colour was aqua blue, lilac, yellow and dark blue and his facial markings were a white mask with black meandering lines snaking from his muzzle to the edges, giving his face a Macaw-like look. There were other members of the group as well; including a female Beaver named Alyssum, a descendant of Beaver and his wife, Mrs Beaver. However, there was disapproval that she was a member of the Justice group since the Talking Beavers had recently become a critically endangered species of Talking Beasts but Alyssum was prideful and didn't care much about this.
The Justice Enforcement group was having a meeting in a clearing in the forest though Quaoar who had founded this group for this community, was a bit late.
"Folks, we MUST be careful of who we hire as teachers of Narnia's history for our children," said a large Tortoise that was the size of a regular dumb elephant (Talking Elephants were smaller) and had jet black scales and shining black carapace, "I recently had to dismiss a Snowstalker from his role when he was teaching a class of young Talking Beasts about the false evolution story last week. We are still looking for a replacement who will teach the TRUE doctrine about Narnia's history and Aslan to that class and I hope we find one soon..."
"That evolution story honestly puts natural processes in Aslan's place," grumbled a beautiful, long-bodied Reptile with shimmering azure scales, a darker blue furry spine running down her back to her tail ending in a tassel of fur. She had short snout whiskers and her belly and underside was pale yellow and her eyes were blue. This was an Azure Dragon and the aforementioned Tortoise was a Black Tortoise. Another member, a large White Tiger, the species being larger than normal Talking Tigers and had pour white fur slashed with deep black stripes like all Tigers, opened his mouth to speak when an ivory, white and metallic yellow, ice blue and silver Fox walked in with a colourful Nekomata.
"Good afternoon, my Justice group," Quaoar called, "Sorry I'm late. I forgot there was a meeting today," he then walked through the group and took his place on a large rock, that rock being designated as the leader of the Justice Enforcement group's seat. Naihanchi went and sat next to the White Tiger whose name was Aang. Quaoar then began to open up the meeting properly. "So, what have we to report today?"
"We've just recently fired a Snowstalker for teaching the evolution from microbes-from-a-meteor heresy to a class of young Talking Beasts, Quaoar," the Black Tortoise, Morla, spoke, "And we're now looking for a replacement who will teach the TRUE history of the Narnian world."
A sigh escaped Naihanchi's mouth and her ears lowered. "My former husband was like that. In fact, her had completely abandoned Aslan, divorced me and took our kits and married another She-Nekomata who was also anti-Aslan. That process is forbidden by Aslan as he decreed that marriage be between one male and one female for LIFE in Talking Beasts and Magical Creatures, unlike in the dumb beasts, some of which can have multiple mates like in dumb sheep and chickens."
"We're still sorry that you had to go through that, Naihanchi," said the Azure Dragon named Moana. Naihanchi turned to her. "At least you and your older brother Shenron, who is the current secondary guardian of the Lion's Garden of Youth, didn't have to face that situation."
"A male Cardinal Beast has to be single and celibate for his role as the Garden of Youth's secondary guardian, anyway," said Aang. The others nodded in agreement, especially Moana who had decided against marrying to help in teaching, mostly young Talking Reptiles but sometimes the young Talking Beasts of the Bird and Mammal classes as well, about Aslan and helping in the Justice Enforcement group.
"BIG responsibility helping to guard such a private property garden, sort of like having a family and training them in Aslan's ways," said Caesium the Chroma Cat.
"After all," put in Crimsonandil the Vermillion bird, her war flywheel packed into a satchel around her waist, "The Garden of Youth's apples are one of the nine ingredients for the Nine-Realms Potion for one and they STRICTLY belong to Aslan and the Emperor-Over-The-Sea for another. Eating an apple for your own selfish gain is stealing and a GREAT sin against the Lion King."
Nods of agreement rolled throughout the circle of Talking Animals and other creatures making up the Justice group to this fact. Then the Beaver, Alyssum, stood up with a proud smile.
"And as for me, I'm proud to be a part of this group" the Beaver Sow (female) spoke loftily. Then the disapproval-filled looks showed themselves on the other members and glared at the Water Rodent.
"You should have paired up with a male Beaver and had some pups, Alyssum," said a Talking Elephant member.
"Yes," said Spock the Pegasus in agreement, "Your species' number is low."
Alyssum's mood flashed from prideful to sour and she folded her arms and stormed off childishly at this fact to the chagrin of the others.
"I'll talk to her later," said Quaoar before he continued the meeting. Then an Elaphocentaur, or Deer-Centaur, spoke to the Fox.
"By the way, have you heard from your twin sister Siveth or her sons and daughters lately?" he asked, "She hasn't spoken to us in ages."
"She's gone to the Narnian Moon to teach some Narnian Moon Men kids and young Talking Beasts about Narnia's true history and Aslan like how we are doing down here," said Quaoar, "Since the death of her husband from a rare disease capable of fatally infecting even a Nine-Tailed Fox despite their heightened immunity against infections and now that her cubs had grown up, she wanted to spend the rest of her life keeping the Aslan subjects alive even during these anarchic Dark Age days without the interference of a spouse," the Kitsumiho then shook his head, "She was supposed to contact us by the time she reached the Narnian Moon but we haven't heard from her for more than a year now. I just hope she's alright."
"We hope so, Quaoar," said Naihanchi with the others nodding. Then Quaoar moved on to the next subject.
"Regarding the Telmarine human intrusions," he said, "Have any of you to report of them?"
Headshakes rolled through the group.
"Not lately," said Adamans, the Fengcock (male Fenghuang) and the husband of Iridia (a Fenghen or female Fenguang). The couple did not have offspring for they had been infertile.
"Not for the past number of years anyway," added Iridia, "according to the patrollers anyway. It seems that they have retreated back to their land where they belong."
"That may seem like good news," said Quaoar sternly, "But we still need to keep on our toes and watch-branches and ledges. Just because they have left our country alone doesn't mean that they will completely. I have a bad feeling about that people group and throughout my extremely long life; I have seen and heard of sporadic Telmarine intrusions up and down our country but still..."
"Are you meaning to say that we could get an invasion here from them?" asked Iridia.
"But our current king would be able to deal with them," said the Talking Elephant.
"We would have to evacuate the species that are critically endangered, like Alyssum's species the Beaver, to other suitable Domains in the event of that," said Adamans.
"Our king is not very good on the throne unlike the four Pevensie Monarchs had been during the Golden Age over 900 years ago," said Quaoar with distrust in the current king on the throne, "I mean he does not have very good combat planning skills and is often quite lazy. The choosers of that king certainly haven't been very wise in giving him the throne, I can tell you. If we were to get a sudden MASSIVE scale invasion from an army from the Telmarine human group like a HUGE wave in a storm out in the Eastern Ocean..." then silence fell upon the Justice Enforcement group. Then Quaoar decided that this was enough discussion for one day.
"We'll get back to this problem in our next meeting," the Kitsumiho said, "Dismissed for now."
The members of the Enforcement group then turned, left their seats and disappeared into the forest in the direction of the makeshift village. As the group left, Quaoar called for the Elaphocentaur and the Elephant and the three went after a certain member of the group.
A little later, Alyssum was roasting some fish roasting in a metallic cooking plate over a fire built from some of the firewood made from the wood gathered by the firewood gatherers and the flames ignited by flint. There was a flameproof frame set over the fire to hold the cooking plate over the flames for efficiency purposes. Alyssum sniffed the mouth-watering smell of the roasting water animals and looked forward to sinking her teeth into their flesh as her mouth salivated. Nearby, a Dimetrodon came in and checked the fire's health and its fuel by prodding it with a stick, making sure that the flames continued burning. As Alyssum continued to wait for the roast fish to be cooked, Quaoar came in with the Elaphocentaur and the Elephant. They had been looking for her but had lost her in the wooded environment. Now that they had found her, they set to having a word with her.
"Alyssum," said Quaoar.
"Not now, Quaoar, I'm preparing for some roast fish," the sassy She-Beaver replied and she picked up some cooking plate-handling tweezers made from two sticks tied together at one end with some strong plant material and picked up the plate of roasted and smoking fish. She could not handle the plate directly or she would burn her paws. As she picked up the plate, the Elaphocentaur commanded her to put it down for now, which the Beaver sourly did. Then the three can set to having the word with the Beaver.
"Alyssum, I don't think you realise just how critically endangered your species, the Beaver is," said Quaoar, before he nodded to the Elephant, "Jumba here had a point in mentioning how you should have gotten married and had pups."
"Yes, there aren't many of you Beavers left and soon enough, extinction will become a serious threat to you," said the Elephant named Jumba, "And besides that, you do have the gifts to be a wife and mother."
"Yes so you must use them," added the Elaphocentaur. However, the only response the three got from Alyssum was scoffing dismissal as the young She-Beaver just picked up her plate of roast fish using a large leaf and prepared to eat the meal. The Dimetrodon nearby then spoke as he placed more fish into another metal plate and then put the plate on the frame above the fire to cook.
"Haven't you forgotten how pivotal your ancestors Beaver and Mrs Beaver had been during the Winter Revolution and also during the Golden Age when High King Peter got poisoned with Jadis' Poisoning, Alyssum?" the Sail-Backed Reptile said.
"Yes, they helped to get three of the four Pevensies to Aslan when the fourth was held captive by the White Witch," said Quaoar. Alyssum pretended she hadn't noticed and began to eat the first fish.
"And he risked his life on the Narnian Moon, the very same place Quaoar's sister Siveth was supposed to have gone, to get some lunar mushrooms from the perilous Forbidden Cave of the Treasures of Vanity, the home of Moon's equivalent to the apples from the Garden of Youth down here, for the Nine-Realms Potion for High King Peter who had been VERY badly poisoned," added Jumba. Still Alyssum refused to listen and continued to eat to the chagrin of Quaoar and the other three. She was indeed very proud and aloof. The Dimetrodon cook then turned to the trio.
"Alyssum here does have a suitor," he told them, "Bucktooth the blind Beaver. Alyssum's parents desire her to marry the Boar as he is..."
"Oh, please don't mention that stupid, lousy, literally blind Beaver," snapped Alyssum as she held another frozen fish, "He's useless because of his stupid blindness. I have NO interested in Beaver Boars that cannot see and I wouldn't be surprised if any other female Beaver refuses to marry him because he cannot see."
Shock tore through the four when they heard what had just come out of Alyssum's mouth.
"Alyssum," Quaoar barked.
"That is SUCH a derogatory thing to say about Bucktooth!" said Jumba.
"Bucktooth may be blind but he is an excellent at quite a number of things," said the Dimetrodon, "He can cook quite well... paint... make things... and he even has a business as a sculptor."
However, Alyssum refused to even acknowledge these points and continued eating. She didn't think highly of disabled Talking Beasts and Magical Creatures and often thought of them as an inconvenience and unable to do anything at all, certainly not marry and have a family or run a business. However, this view was UTTERLY false and Quaoar knew this. The Kitsumiho had seen disabled Talking Beasts and Magical Creatures get married many times before in his long life and they have usually managed well despite the challenges presented by the disabilities. One example was crippled Talking Beasts getting married and even having offspring and Quaoar remembered a deaf Terror Bird female descended from a Terror Bird called Neutrophil being a wife and mother to a male Terror Bird who could hear. It was just that the marriage had to be managed and handled differently to able-bodied marriages. But negative attitudes to disabled Talking Beasts, be it physically, mentally or both, were NOT tolerated but Assylum had expressed this kind of attitude far too many times already and now, enough was enough. Then Quaoar issued Alyssum an ultimatum.
"If you will NOT change your attitude towards disabled Talking Beasts, Alyssum," the Kitsumiho spoke in a low growl, his voice laced with severe warning, "You will NOT be welcome in our community again and you will have to leave and live somewhere else. Is that clear!?"
That sent ripples through the nerves of Alyssum and she flinched. Immediately, she lost her appetite, put her fish down and left. Quaoar, the Dimetrodon, Jumba and the Elaphocentaur looked on with frowns.
"I hope that teaches her a jolly good lesson about respecting those who are less fortunate," said the second one.
"I had to permanently evict a gang of three few Talking Owls, two Tailed Pterosaurs, four Ravens and a Quetzal when they were severely bullying a Kakapo born without legs and refused to change their ways," said Quaoar firmly, "If Alyssum doesn't change her attitude, she will be joining them. In this community, ALL individuals, whether young, old, disabled or able-bodied, are valuable and welcome to live here. It is one of Aslan's commands that we take care of the vulnerable like the disabled and impoverished."
The Dimetrodon, Jumba and the Elaphocentaur nodded in agreement this and moments later, the former resumed his cooking task while the other three moved on to carry out their tasks.
