"My hand looks naked," Max moans into Adam's throat, not bothering to look as his fingers wiggle helplessly in Adam's hand. "My poor ring, that asshole, how dare he..."
Adam presses a kiss to Max's forehead, nuzzling in. "It's ok," he soothes. "Your fingers are still very attractive, diamond ring or no."
Max huffs, his expression troubled as he leans into Adam more thoroughly. "I guess," he mumbles. "But that ring..."
"Maybe we should get you a new ring," Adam suggests, pressing a kiss to the pads of Max's fingers.
Max gasps, affronted. "How dare you," he says. "Suggesting I replace my diamond ring is like suggesting we replace Piper, on the horrible day something might happen to her. It's just cruel and callous."
"You're right," Adam says. "I apologize, I wasn't thinking." He laces his fingers with Max's and lifts them to his lips, kissing his knuckles lazily. "One plus is it makes it easier for me to hold your hand."
"I guess," Max says, nuzzling back into Adam's steady warmth. "I still miss it, though."
"I know you do," Adam sighs, running his free hand through Max's hair. "But it's going to be ok."
Max hums, yawning softly. "I trust you," he murmurs, already starting to doze off at Adam's slow ministrations. "I love you."
Adam smiles. "I love you too." He presses a kiss to the side of Max's head and listens to his breathing as it slows, settles into sleepy exhales. He lifts Max's hand and looks at his bare fingers again, a thoughtful look on his face. "I love you too."
