Season 3- Episode 4- The Discussion

Karai and her father, who sat on the throne, were the only ones left in the throne room. Everyone else left to continue with their day- except for Karai, who chose to stay. Her gaze directed at the floor as she contemplated on how to speak her mind.

Since the Shredder revealed the news, Karai's thinking process has been a mess. Throughout all of the discussion, her mind has been going rampant with figuring out how whatever was happening could be possible. Ever. How could she believe it so easily? One of her enemies is actually her brother? It is not an easy thing to accept. How was she supposed to treat him now? What was she supposed to think of him? Well- Karai did not really hate Donatello, or any of them. Maybe at first, but lately she rather enjoyed their fights. But although she did not hate them, it does not mean she liked them much, either. They are enemies, after all, and with the things that Yoshi had done to her mother…

Karai shook her head from one side to another, with a frown plastered on her face, in an attempt to chase away her thoughts. She felt anger bubble up inside of her at the thought of her mother, and she wanted to remain calm.

"Karai?" The Shredder questioned, as he looked at his daughter with a raised eyebrow.

"Do you have something on your mind?" He added, although the answer was quite obvious, since unlike the others, she stayed, with a troubled expression on her face. It is quite obvious why Karai is troubled, the Shredder knows that much. He had a hard time receiving the news as well, after all. Everyone did. The Foot clan is used to hating the Hamatos. They are the enemy, and it is not something that is easy to forget. Now, it was found out that one of the Hamatos is actually one of them, and they cannot harm him. The Shredder was sure that none of his clan members were simply continuing with their daily lives after receiving the shocking news. However, he still had to ask his daughter. He has a job that needs to be fulfilled, and that job is being a father.

Karai looked up at her father for a second, and then returned her gaze to the floor. She scratched her arm nervously as she shifted her weight from one foot to another in her standing position. She opened and closed her mouth a couple of times, thinking on how she could even start.

"Is Donatello… My brother?" She asked her father in a quiet voice, still uncertain if the story even makes sense to her.

"...He is." He answered, still getting used to the fact that Donatello was actually Karai's sibling.

"And your son…" She added, which he answered with an affirmative nod.

"But how? And why is he a mutant like the rest of the turtles? If he is a human, then why is he like this?" Karai asked, her voice raised in volume as she got aggravated from her confusion.

"Well, I do not know about how it happened, but the DNA results suggested that while the other wretched turtles had turtle DNA which was then mixed with human DNA, Donatello had it backwards. His original DNA was human, and then mixed with the genes of a turtle. Probably from one of them. After some research, it was found out that his parents are Tang Shen and I. Just as I have explained to you and the rest of the clan." Shredder said, as simply and patiently as he could so that Karai could easily follow him. It was probably too hard for her to understand the first time he had explained to the whole clan. Shock can cause a person to lose concentration and experience confusion, after all. And Karai was obviously shocked.

"...Oh." She answered as she went over the information in her head.

"I understand that it is very hard to grasp, Karai." Shredder said, understanding her feelings, since it was hard for him as well and he cannot really blame her for it.

"...It is." She replied, sighing from emotional tiredness as she frowned while pinching the bridge of her nose.

"Does Donatello even know about the truth?" Karai asked, after a few seconds of silence. She lifted her eyebrow as she crossed her arms. She highly doubts that he knows. Thinking of their previous interactions, she doesn't think that she noticed something off with him, or the rest of his family when it comes to a reaction regarding the Shredder. It would be easy to see if they knew something.

"I do not know if he knows." Shredder replied with a slight growl as his hand clenched into a fist, annoyed with the possibility that his own son might not even know about his relation to him.

Karai frowned as well, aggravated at the same reason as her father.

"Then, what do we do now?" Karai looked up at her father, awaiting the answer curiously. After learning the truth about Donatello, there is no way that they could simply ignore it.

"Get Donatello back, since he-" The Shredder spoke, until Karai cut him off.

"Of course! They have no right to keep my brother with them." Karai said as rage bubbled up inside of her. She bit her lip as she attempted to keep herself as calm as she could. All of this time, the turtles grew up together, believing themselves to be siblings and enjoying themselves, while she grew up without her actual brother, and her father raised her without his son being around.

'What gives them the right to claim themselves as Donatello's family? Not only did this clan take my mother away from me, but now they took my brother as well, apparently.' Karai thought with rage as she grit her teeth. Her fist clenched at her side as she momentarily saw red. She forced herself to calm down. It's not like losing herself will help her with anything, but it was hard not to.

The Shredder smirked as he saw the fire inside her. He was satisfied that she wanted to get Donatello back as much as he wanted to. 'I have raised her well, indeed.' Shredder thought to himself.

"You are correct, my daughter." He said, satisfied as he nodded in agreement.

"That is why we are going to do something about it." He added, as he started to think of new plans that might help them "reunite" the family.
