(A/N: so sorry for the unannounced hiatus, guys. I'm back!)

Danny's pov

Finally, after what seemed like hours, all the samples had been collected, from blood to spit to hairs and cheek swabs. It would surprise me if they had asked for anything else, to be honest. I sighed

" And now we wait"

Jackie spoke, an edge of tease in her voice, due to our longtime friendship and past partnership that had been rekindled, both which gave her access to my personality traits and habits, the good, the bad and the downright Irish hothead.

"Danny Reagan's favorite pastime".

We laughed at how absurd that was to hear, even with the sarcasm dripping from the words. But we were also partly just covering up our nerves. This could potentially change our lives as we knew them. I was glad Maria was there with us to be a friend, support system and a calming presence, but she was so much more to me. She broke the silence

"Can I get you both anything while we wait?"

She smiled as she asked the question, or, better said, made the offer. She truly was a gift from above. Jackie smiled back at her

"No thanks, Maria."

In the same vein, I replied

"No thanks, partner, but thank you for offering."

She smiled, hand squeezing my shoulder

"You're welcome, Reagan. Always here. Thanks for inviting me to stay with you both during this moment, I can't even begin to imagine what you both must be going through right now..."

Jackie sighed

"Tell me about it... where are those results? At least if it turns out that Danny and I are related, I will have gained the best family I know."

That caused me to smile and squeeze my potential twin's hand. Finally, not long after that tender moment, the results were finally in, and the geneticist entered the room with a clipboard and an unreadable expression, an impressive feat with three high ranking detectives of the NYPD in the room studying his face.

My impatience getting the best of me, I all but demanded

"Well?"

Double checking the clipboard that held the results, he then looked at all three of us and replied what I was secretly hoping he would say, but had priorly decided to not get my hopes up because it had originally seemed impossible

"Jacklyn Curatola is actually Jessilyn Riley Reagan."

Jac- I mean Jess and I immediately hugged, tears running down our cheeks. I saw Baez tear up a bit as well, clearly happy for us. We owed so much of this outcome to her unwavering love, help and support. My twin broke me out of my thoughts

"Danny. We need to tell yo- our family!"

She was right. And this was going to be a huge but amazing adjustment. I mean, don't get me wrong, before today, she was already considered family, but because of the NYPD and being my partner and friend. To now be made aware that she actually was my blood family, my twin no less, living among us at work and at family events as an honorary family member... it comforted me to know that she was a part of important moments of our lives, even if we had no idea who she really was at the time. Placing the phone on speaker, I called the rest of the family, making use of the feature on WhatsApp that let you call multiple people at once. Dad broke the silence

"Danny. How are you? Are Maria and Jackie still with you? I know the three of you are working the case"

I smiled at my two partners and replied

"Maria is here and Jackie is sort of here"

Pops was the one to question

"What do you mean, sort of? Is she alright?"

I did not answer him right away, instead opting to advise

"Everyone best sit down."

Once I was sure they had all secured their safety balance and gravity wise to hear the news I spoke

"Everyone is on speaker. The reason I told you to sit down is because we solved the case. Actually, Maria did."

Impatient and curious, Peter spoke

"Well? Did you find Aunt Jess?"

I kept them on bated breath for a few seconds, then spoke

"DNA confirms it. Jackie Curatola is Jessilyn Reagan."

There was silence from all lines for a split second, but once they had all processed what I had just told them, they were over the moon, most of them crying, even Dad, known for his stoicism and professionalism.

"My baby girl... I can't believe you've finally been found. Thank you, Detective Baez, thank you, Danny, and thank you, Jess for working so diligently on this case, and solving one of the worst cases I have ever come across. We would be honored to have you both over for family dinner on Sunday if you could and if you want to."

My two partners, one of them my newly-found twin smiled

"Can't wait."

Making him get as choked up as she was, Jess added

"Can't wait, Dad."

I could hear his smile as he replied

"Me neither, honey."

A few hours later, it was time for dinner, and time just stopped in the room when I walked in with my two partners. Then, as if someone had simply unpaused the scenario unfolding in the ancestral dining room, the entire family ran to our newfound Reagan, showering her with hugs and tears, which she eagerly reciprocated. Talk about a homecoming.
