"Hey, pretty thing," a man said, sliding next to her at the bar.
Of course, this was paired with a very blatant look up and down her body. Tonks knew that it was supposed to be appreciative but it always made her feel a bit nervous and uncomfortable. Like she had somehow touched something slimy. But she pushed that feeling away. She was being stupid. He was just a drunk idiot. He didn't mean anything by it and she was going to carefully stay out of reach so that he didn't try anything with his probably equally slimy hands.
"That always work for you?" She asked with an eye roll.
"Yes," he said, responding to her bluntness with honesty.
Or maybe it was his ego talking. He looked like someone who had a lot of ego. What with his hair jelled into spikes and the tips of those spikes being bleached blonde. He even had this spike earring going through one ear, did he really think that that was cool? It was not cool. It was a cool look for some people but it just wasn't for him. It just looked like he was trying too hard. Nope. She did not find that attractive.
"Hmm," she hummed at him disbelievingly. "Okay. It's not working on me though."
He just took that as an invitation to keep trying, unfortunately.
"Oh really?"
"Yes."
"Are you sure?"
Did he have candlewax in his ears or something? Hadn't he heard her say that she wasn't interested?
"I am," she said firmly.
He didn't look like he was convinced. Fantastic. But it looked like his need for more alcohol won out as he turned to the bar to ask for a beer. Tonks breathed a sigh of relief and took the opportunity to move four stools down. Hoping to ignore him for him for the rest of the night.
Unfortunately, that wasn't to be because he promptly got into an argument with the bar man about the beers on offer. Apparently, they were completely unacceptable and obviously whoever owned his place was running a terrible business.
"Senor, we do not have that beer," the barkeeper interrupted his little spiel.
That got the man almost immediately ranting about "bloody foreigners" and "not even knowing what a good beer was" and something about "what did expect from the Spanish". It was all very stupid and xenophobic. Did he not understand that she and he were the foreigners? They were in Spain, after all. Whatever. The man was obviously stupid. He was now moving down the other end of the bar and demanding that the poor barkeeper list every single alcohol that they had to see if they had "something decent".
The poor man behind the bar discreetly rolled his eyes but obliged the stupid idiot. She certainly wouldn't have but she supposed he couldn't do anything about it. At least all he was doing was looking intently at bottles and saying "no" every time. That was something, wasn't it?
Now that he was nice and distracted, Tonks took the opportunity to look around the bar. It wasn't that big but it was packed. Mostly with people her age and she suspected a bit younger as well. Technically she shouldn't be here considering she was still underage in the muggle world but that little fact was very easily fixed on her passport. Something she was definitely nervous about having on her person as she was out and about but she had no other form of ID. Maybe her dad was right and she should learn to drive, just for the license. Yeah, something to think about. Not that it helped her now. No, this holiday she was going to have to stick with using her altered ID. Not that the muggles noticed and certainly not in this bar where they weren't looking too closely at the IDs. She just had to be careful and make sure her parents didn't catch the alteration or else, adult or not, there would be hell to pay.
But enough thinking of unpleasant things. She was here to have fun! Oh, that girl was pretty. She had this kind of scruffy blonde hair look going on with a frayed denim jacket. Oh, and green highlights around her face! Her kind of person!
Now, the thing with being at Hogwarts for months on end and having no real interest in anyone at Hogwarts meant that she never really had to flirt to get someone's attention. She just always kind of had someone's attention. Not so with this girl. Which meant that she was going to have to flirt. Or, at least try to.
It turned out she didn't have to because the girl noticed her staring. Whoops. Awkward. But maybe this was a good thing. The girl looked her up and down but not admiringly, Lile she wanted, but with a sneer. She didn't even say anything to her, just snorted and moved away from the bar. Tonks stared after her and watched as she kissed a taller girl right on the lips. Right. Fine then. That obviously didn't work. Didn't mean she was bad at this; she was simply not what that girl wanted. Plenty of fish in the sea and all that. Well, she hoped so anyway.
"You're gorgushhh," this man went to her, returning her attention to the seat next to her.
She was pretty sure he was trying to be all suave but he had definitely had a drink too many and his limbs kind of flopped around where his motions should have been smooth. That and he was creepy. Definitely not attractive. And definitely not a fish she wanted. Could she throw him back?
"Senor, please do not bother the lady," the bartender said as the man shifted so he was closer to her
Tonks, obviously, made sure to move her stool away.
"Who's this sen-oooooh-er?" The man asked, putting on the most ridiculous Spanish accent she had ever heard. "I'm English so speak English."
Tonks tried to not roll her eyes so as not to antagonise him further. He was drunk enough that she was pretty sure any sort of slight would get him angry. He just seemed to be that sort. Fantastic.
"Please leave," the bar man tried but, of course, he was ignored while the man ranted about "foreigners ruining everything".
He did not appear to see the irony in the fact that he was currently a foreigner.
"You better getting yourself a good, British man!" The idiot bellowed at her like that would help things.
"Senor! Please!"
"Leave me alone you little punk. I'm talking to the pretty, freaky lady."
"You really aren't," she tried but that seemed to just make it worse.
"Come on, I bet you like it freaky."
And that just made it gross. Fantastic. A shiver went through her. She didn't even want to think about something like that.
"Time for you to go, Senor."
The man behind the bar finally managed to get rid of him, much to her relief. It wasn't like she thought that he would do something but he had just been making her feel uncomfortable and she didn't want that. She was here to have fun, after all. Fun she was yet to have.
