Everything I've written is all original and made up, except from The vampire diaries characters of course.

-Present day-

Time had almost stood still. The nights sky; beckoned by the glow of a moon illuminated into the bedroom, cascading their shadows and lightly dimming the expression on their faces.

As Bonnie gazes into thin air with hollow eyes with the wrinkles under her eyes seeming like it was going to shut at any given moment, Simone swallows a hard lump in her throat. She gets up to close the curtains and then quickly lights up some candles nearby with her magic. She dreads to turn around to look back at her grandmother, almost as if she knew what the look on her face would be, but even after hearing her tell her about this mysterious man who she had met and later disappeared Sixty-years ago in the early 40's, there were still a lot of things she still couldn't fathom.

"Nana...?" she calls, a slight crack in her voice as she builds up the courage to finally turn back to face her.

The old Bennett witch slowly snaps out of her deep and haunting thoughts of that one faithful day many years ago, before she turns to meet her granddaughter's gaze, instantly spotting the many mixed emotions plastered all across her face.

"This girl that you mentioned... Caroline?" she begins.

"Caroline Forbes... my best friend?.

"How come you haven't mentioned her before? This is the first time I'm hearing about her. I know about some of the friends you had in the past, but you've never mentioned her before. Why?... what happened to her...?".

Silence looms in the air as a dark shadow cascades across Bonnie's face, almost as if she is remembering a painful memory. As her fingers begins to lightly tremble, Simone goes to sit back down besides her, gently placing her hand over his.

"Caroline was a friend like no other. We first met each other when we were only Twelve years old, of course back then our friendship was looked down upon by a lot of people due to the different color of our skin. When we were both fifteen, Caroline discovered the secret of our family's coven. She was frightened but she kept that secret with her. She wasn't perfect, but she was my best friend in the world" Bonnie explains briefly.

Simone watches her grandmother's face carefully as it floods with overwhelming emotions. As much as the curiosity of Caroline Forbes drove her wild right at that very moment, she knew it was a touchy subject.

"Well what about this man who mysteriously vanished after overhearing you both that day?" she asks, shifting closer to her. "You said before you fell madly in love with three different vampires in your life... which one was he?".

Bonnie pauses for a brief while before turning to face her. "Damon Salvatore... that was his name" she replies in a husky voice. "Of course back then I didn't realize he was a vampire at first as I had never seen one in my life before" she says.

"What happened with him, Nana?" Simone questions eagerly.

"Damon wasn't perfect, he was far from it, but I loved him. He was the first true love of my life. He had all the worse traits a vampire could have and most of the time he made no apologies for it either. He broke my heart several times and I broke his. He put my life in danger, but he also challenged me, he questioned me, he saw me deep down from just being a Bennett witch and loved the raw ugly parts of me as equally as the good. As impulsive and twisted as he was, he would've done anything for me back then... and I remember when I first saw him, I was frightened, but the second time I knew I'd never forget him".

Simone opens her eyes and shuts it overwhelmingly at what she just heard. She then sucks in a shaky breath as a heavy silence fills the room once again.

-Flashback-

-31st March, 1941-

A canopy of luminous stars materialized amongst the town. Some were dull, merely flicking into existence every now and then, but there is an adequate amount of shimmering stars to illuminate the shadowy atmosphere.

It was late at night and Bonnie and Caroline strolled side by side on a quiet street, slowly making their way to Bonnie's house.

"Bonnie, its been three weeks now, don't you think its time you moved on from this man who you think you saw on your birthday?" Caroline groaned, tucking her blonde locks behind her ears and placing her hand on her hip as she stopped walking.

Bonnie stops in her tracks and turns to face her. "Caroline, I know what I saw... he overheard us and mentioned that I'm a Bennett witch and when I went to run to you and turn around he was gone, but I knew what I saw and heard" she spoke, breathing out a deep, frustrated sigh. She quickly pushes her head up and shuts her eyes as Caroline watched her for a brief while in silence.

"Someone just doesn't disappear just like that" said Caroline, as the two girls carried on with their stroll.

Bonnie lowers her head slightly. "This is going to sound crazy but... I think he was a vampire".

"A vampire?!" a shocked Caroline scoffed, as an amused smile slowly creeps up on her face.

"Yes... I've never actually met one, but my Grams used to tell me many stories about them and the dangerous encounters she had with several of them years ago. They aren't like witches at all. If I remember correctly they all exist because of a family of viscous vampires, the original vampires from the 11th century, but Grams says they might just be a myth" she explains briefly.

"Vampires huh?... like Dracula? oh I just love that picture!" Caroline gasped, before pulling a scary face as Bonnie rolled her eyes.

"Very funny, Caroline" the young witch scoffed, turning her head away from her.

"Oh I was only joking, Bon" Caroline laughed loudly, before going to link her arm with hers. "You know the idea of vampires doesn't seem that un-convincing now I know you're a witch. Up until a few years ago I never knew witches even existed".

Bonnie stops to look up at her, smiling a small smile before creeping up. "Remember when you first found out?".

"How could I forget? I ran inside your house and saw your Grams teaching you how to do some levitation spell and I almost fainted".

The two girls laughed as they begin to remember that day. Moments later, they heard a car slowly driving towards them and they rapidly turn their heads to see a red Chevrolet which belonged to the town's golden boy, Matt Donovan. Matt was Caroline's boyfriend soon to be fiance as both her parents and his were eager for them to get married after they finished High School.

Unfortunately Caroline was never good at telling Bonnie how she really felt about him, but Bonnie always knew, even though she liked to pretend. She knew that Caroline wanted a simple family and life of her own soon, it had been her dream ever since they were kids. She wanted a husband, kids, and a nice house and she knew that Matt was the one to give that to her, despite how young they both were and despite the fact that she didn't feel a thing for him. Bonnie was someone who wanted to explore the world, learning her craft and getting better at her magic, whilst Caroline wanted the opposite. They had always been different from each other, but that was where their main difference stemmed and sometimes affected their friendship.

They watched as Matt stepped out of his Chevrolet, holding a hard stern gaze at Bonnie who rapidly rolled her eyes away.

"Been driving around town looking for you, your folks said you weren't at home" Matt spoke, placing his arm on the roof of his car and the other hand on his hip as he turned to face Caroline. "Let's go, I'm here to take you home".

"Oh well actually Bonnie and I were just-"

"Were just what?" he questioned in a hoarse tone, quickly cutting her off her sentence. "I said I'm here to take you home Caroline, you don't need to be anywhere else, so c'mon".

Bonnie watched as Matt walks over to the passengers door to open it for her. She then turns her attention back to Caroline as she trembles her lips lightly. She had never been one to speak up in-front of Matt before, not because she was scared of him or anything; the discrimination she faced from him and everybody in town had never fazed her, but simply out of respect for Caroline, but at that moment she just couldn't help herself.

"She was saying that she's going to my house, we're walking there now if you'll excuse us" Bonnie hisses, going to grab Caroline's hand, but before she could, she quickly stopped her.

"Bon... its okay, I'll go with him" says Caroline forcing a big smile on her face.

Bonnie sighs and takes a step towards her, looking her deep in the eyes. "Caroline, I've tried not to say anything before but you don't have to be with him or go with him... now let's go home, my mom made your favorite remember, she knows how much you love her pot roast" Bonnie chuckles.

Caroline smiles at how Bonnie had called her home her home too as it always had been ever since they knew each other. As she turns to look back at Matt, her eyes begins to water as she desperately tried to stop the tears from pouring out.

"I'm sorry... I'll see you tomorrow okay". That was the last thing she said, before she gives her a long hug, before going to rush into the car.

With a scowl on her face, Bonnie watches as Matt scoffs at her. He then walks over to head back in the driver's seat, before driving away moments later as Bonnie watches on while stood in the middle of the road. Once they were out of sight, she closes her eyes shut and balls her fists up. After a while, she lets out a deep breath, letting all her anger out and that was when she was met with a familiar presence looming behind her.

As her heart begins to beat rapidly, she quickly turns around to see a figure laying in the middle of a road from a distance. It felt like the air had gotten thicker and the atmosphere had gotten quieter, so much so that she could barely hear anything from a distance, and just then she began to realize just how alone she was at that moment.

Squinting her eyes and swallowing a hard lump in her throat, she ten began to slowly walk over to the figure who remained still on the concrete road. Her instincts were telling her to turn around and taking a different route home, but her curiosity and eagerness had gotten the better of her. With each step she took, her heartbeat got louder and louder. When she finally came to a halt, she watched as the figure slowly got up from the ground, and her eyes widened in shock as she realized that it was him.

"Trouble in paradise?" he smirked, instantly locking eye-contact with her.

"You..." she breathed out, almost lost for words.

As he took a step towards her, she quickly took a step back, about to turn around to run away, but before she could, he rapidly used his speed to appear in-front of her, causing her to let out a loud shriek.

"You... you're a vampire" she muttered as her entire body began to tremble in fear.

"Not so much as Dracula if I do say so myself" he replied amusingly, as Bonnie sighs, realizing that he had overheard what had happened. "Terrible picture by the way, not a real depiction of vampires at all, but Blondie seems to love it" he said, referring to Caroline, before stopping to look around. "I apologize, I couldn't help but overhear-"

"Well that seems like something you do quite often... who are you? what do you want from me?" she questioned. Even with the palpable darkness, his blue eyes was still so hypnotizing and striking, even more than before. His gaze simply commanded hers, forcing her to fixate her eyes on him even though all she wanted to do was run, but even then she knew she might not get very far. His presence was enigmatic, simply captivating in neither a good or bad way, and as frightened as she felt in that very moment, she also felt strangely drawn to him.

"Believe it or not witch I just happened to be passing by this God awful town weeks ago, but when I overheard you were a Bennett witch..." he scoffed in amusement, taking a step closer towards her. "Well I never thought I'd run into one of you. I've never been a fan of witches, but you're apparently the strongest in the world... is that so? he questions, lifting his brow up.

Bonnie takes a small step back, trying not to show how intimidated she was by him.

"Damon Salvatore..." he spoke, gazing down at her. It fell silent with them for a brief moment as they continued their heavy gazes. "This is the part where you introduce yourself too, witch" he smirks.

"You already know my name, seeing as you've been watching me for weeks" she scoffs, folding her arms. "What kind of vampire are you?" she asked.

"I didn't realize there were multiple kinds of vampires, but if I had to pick probably the insanely handsome one, right" he teases her, before turning his head to the side to laugh and she couldn't help but roll her eyes away. "What kind of witch are you?... what kind of witch doesn't instantly fry the brain of the asshole who treats her best friend like crap?" he questioned, referring back to Caroline and Matt.

"Witches aren't like vampires... Matt might be an awful person, but if I ever did try to fry his human brain then he'd die" she explains.

"Well maybe that's what he deserves, c'mon I know you've thought about it many times" he muttered quietly, piercing down into her eyes.

The young witch sucks in a shaky breath before taking another step back from him. "I was taught to be responsible with my magic. I'm not a violent person and never will be" she replies.

"Never is a strong word, Bonnie" he says. It was the first time he had uttered her name and she had liked the way it flowed from his lips. "Everyone has a danger and a dark side to them, including you".

"You don't know me, Damon" she said.

"You're right, I don't... but I do know if you really wanted to fry that asshole's brain you wouldn't know how to do it because you wouldn't know how to" he whispers, furrowing his brows. "I know you probably only know how to do safe simple magic because you haven't tapped into your full potential yet".

As the cold night's breeze blows past them, Bonnie lifts her hands to rub her arms. Unexpectedly, she notices Damon take of his jacket and she stands still in shock as he goes to wrap it around her small frame. She looks up at him as he runs his hands down her arms, while meeting her gaze along the way and they lock eye contact with each other again.

"Don't get it twisted, I'm not often this nice" he smirks down at her as she tilts her head to the side while continuing to stare up at him.

"I thought you said you weren't a fan of witches... well you certainly seem interested in magic" she utters, and she couldn't help the smile that creeps up on her face as he turns his head to laugh at her comment.

The fear and anxiousness she felt earlier when she had stumbled into him had seemingly vanished, and although she still felt a little uneasy being in his presence; after all he was a vampire, she suddenly felt a sense of relief for a brief moment. She was so fascinated by him and would've stood in the middle of that road and spoken to him all night if she could.

"I've been stuck with vamperism for a very long time now, I was turned almost Eighty years ago and I've seen a lot of things and been a lot of places... I may not like magic, but I've seen it all too well if you catch my drift" he explains briefly.

"Eighty years, that's a very long time... how did you, you know become a vampire?" she asks.

Bonnie immediately spots the serious expression begin to appear in his voice. His playful smirk was now gone and the amused and curious look he had on his face ever since he laid eyes on her was nowhere to be seen and she instantly knew that she had asked a question she wasn't supposed to. She watched him carefully as he takes another step towards her, closing any space left between them. Due to their height difference, she pushes her head back to look him in the eyes as he studies all the features on her face.

"You know this is the part I wish you were a human so I could easily compel you and make you forget ever meeting me and this conversation" he whispered. "But as I've learnt, witches cannot be compelled".

Bonnie opens her mouth to speak, but nothing came out. He looks around the street, to check if anyone was watching before he glances back down at her, wrapping his arms around her and rapidly whisking her away with his speed.

-End of flashback-

-Present day-

"So he took you away with his vampire speed... where to?" Simone questions, now laying on the bed beside her grandmother.

Bonnie gazes up at the ceiling thinking back to that night, before speaking up. "He took me to the waterfall just outside of town. We spoke about everything and anything that by the end of the night I was no longer frightened of him. Of course when I arrived home the next morning my family were furious at me, but I couldn't tell them the real reason why I had came home the next day. I told him things that I never told Caroline then and he told me his secrets also. I never expected to become so instantly connected to him then" she explains, in a hollow tone.

"Did you fall in love with him that night?" Simone asks, placing her hands under the side of the head as she watches her slowly shut her eyes.

"I felt drawn to him but I didn't fall in love with him until months later and it scared me to feel that way about something I was told to hate" she answers. "I remember the first time I saw him feed on someone, it snapped me back to reality and I became terrified of him all over again. He had a lot of demons, he always chose to do the wrong thing more than the right and unfortunately I was stubborn and wanted him to be someone he wasn't, and it drove us apart many times, but I always came back to him, until I no longer could".

Simone listens to her grandmother's words carefully, feeling completely overwhelmed by everything she's been told so far. She never expected the great Bonnie Bennett to be the one to harbor so many secrets.

"What happened after that night, nana?" she asked minutes later, but there was no response and she lifts her head up to see that she had fallen asleep.

She gently pulls the covers over her so she wouldn't wake her, before slowly climbing out of bed and going to tip toe around the room. As she closes the door quietly behind her, she then presses her back against it and stares of into thin air letting out a deep sigh and letting the quietness consume her as she goes downstairs to read her grandmother's grimoire while burying her deep curiosity about everything she had heard.
