CHAPTER NINE
(Chapter Title - Tonight Belongs To You)

Chandler read his lines with Ross, keeping as much eye contact as he could. The boys were working on the song You Happened, along with Mollie and Savanna. Lily and Monica were there, too.

Chandler knew a lot about theater from his father, who was a drag queen who went by the name Helena Handbasket.

A lot of people thought that Chandler was gay because he loved the theater. He was one of the only straight white guys who loved it, not including a handful of friends and family. He had been either the lead or in the ensemble in his high school productions, which were - Anastasia (in the ensemble), Les Miserables (as Marius), RENT (as Mark) and Kinky Boots (as Charlie Price). He loved pouring his soul into each of the characters he played.

At theater camp, he was loving playing Kevin, who was the total opposite of Chandler, but that was such a fun challenge.

He was also bonding with both Mollie and Savanna, who were playing Kaylee and Shelby.

Once theater camp was over, Chandler was going to make a vow to reach out to the friends he had made, whether by phone, email or social media.

On the way to the Mess Hall, Chandler couldn't help but sing You Happened, which was probably one of his favorite songs in the whole show. His other favorites were Love Thy Neighbor and Unruly Heart. He wasn't in the song Unruly Heart, but had heard Monica rehearsing it and thought it was such a beautiful song.

Chandler grabbed dinner and headed to the table he shared with his friends.

"Hey guys" Chandler said, sitting between Ross and Barney.

"Hey. Great rehearsal today" Ross told Chandler, taking a bite of his lasagna.

"Thanks. You too" Chandler said, taking a bite of his food, "so, how was the rest of your guys' day?"

"Pretty hot - I mean - pretty good" Barney said, looking at a group of girls that walked by and went to sit at a table near the back of the Mess Hall.

"Dude" Ted said as Marshall grabbed a French fry off his tray.

"What? I'm hungry" Marshall said.

"You guys excited about tomorrow?" Ted asked, taking a bite of his food.

"What's tomorrow?" Ross asked.

"Tuesday" Chandler answered sarcastically.

All the guys rolled their eyes at Chandler.

"Tomorrow, we're getting our costume fittings!" Ted said in an excited tone.

Joey came over at that moment, his plate piled high with food, "who's doing what tomorrow?"

"We're getting our costume fittings" Ted said, still in an excited tone.

"Ted, you sound excited about this" Chandler said in a sarcastic tone.

"I am" Ted said.

"Ted, is this your first musical?" Ross asked.

Ted shook his head, "my second, actually. My first was in eighth grade as Captain Hook in my middle school's production of Peter Pan. What about you guys?"

"This is my third - was in Once Upon a Mattress, Into the Woods and Chicago" Ross said.

"Second - was Pippin in Pippin" Barney said.

"Fourth - was in Hairspray, Chicago and Legally Blonde" Joey said.

"This is my fifth - was in RENT, Into the Woods, West Side Story, Shrek & A Year With Frog and Toad - those were community theater. In high school, I've been in two - Mamma Mia and Grease" Marshall said.

Everyone looked at Chandler.

"Oh, my turn?" Chandler asked. He then cleared his throat, "this will be my fourth - I was in the ensemble in Anastasia, Mark in RENT, Marius in Les Miserables and Charlie Price in Kinky Boots."

"That's cool" the guys said in unison.

Chandler smiled a tiny bit and went back to eating.

After dinner, everyone headed to their cabins for some good night's sleep.

The following day, there was a really bad thunderstorm that knocked out the power to the camp.

Everyone spent the day in their cabins, either going over lines, playing games by flashlight or hung out with their cabin mates.

By dinner time, the power came on, which everyone was happy about, but the rain hadn't let up.

Ruby had called everyone and asked what they wanted to eat and had the staff deliver it to the campers.

"I actually like the rain" Robin said as she ate some macaroni and cheese.

"Me too" Lily said, eating some salad, which she shared with Savanna.

After dinner, the girls and guys hung out in the SIX cabin.

Monica got out her guitar and got out some sheet music, "you guys wanna learn Unruly Heart?"

Everyone nodded and looked at the sheet music Monica put in front of them.

Monica taught everyone the harmonies while she played the guitar and sang.

Chandler smiled at Monica. He wouldn't admit it to anyone, but he was falling in love with her.

"I have my guitar, too!" Phoebe said, getting her guitar and had a jam session with Monica. The two of them played a medley of musical theater songs, from Suddenly Seymour from Little Shop to Seasons of Love from RENT.

The others either sat on the beds or on the floor, swaying back and forth in time to the music. Some of them, Chandler included, sang along.

"Chandler, sing something for us!" Joey said.

"Yeah!" Everyone encouraged.

"Okay, but I'll need two girls - how about" Chandler scanned the small group of girls, "Robin and Rachel."

"Okay" Robin and Rachel said in unison.

"Do you guys know A Heart full of Love from Les Miserables?" Chandler asked, hoping that they would.

"Yes / No" Rachel and Robin said in unison.

"Um, Rachel, do you know A Little Fall of Rain?" Chandler asked.

"Yes. Remember, you and I played Marius and Eponine in our high school's production of Les Mis?" Rachel said, reminding Chandler.

Chandler nodded and the two of them sang A Little Fall of Rain completely a cappella.

"And you will keep me safe
And you will keep me close
And rain Will make the flowers…." Rachel sang.

"I will stay with you
Til you are sleeping And rain
Will make the flowers
Grow" Chandler sang, holding Rachel's still form on his lap. He gently kissed her forehead as everyone applauded.

"Let's sing a few happy songs before we go to bed" Phoebe suggested.

That's what the campers did - they sang I Whistle a Happy Tune from The King and I, You'll Be Back from Hamilton, He Lives in You from The Lion King, La Vie Boheme from RENT, Oh What A Beautiful Morning from Oklahoma, The Sex Is In The Heel from Kinky Boots, Wait For Me from Hadestown and Say My Name from Beetlejuice.

By the time the small ensemble sang the final note from Say My Name, it was time for light's out.

The guys headed to their cabin, happy from spending time with the girls they were becoming friends with.
