"Shepard is loose! Repeat, Shepard is—"
"How can I be loose if I wasn't imprisoned to begin with?" Kacey quipped as she shot the technician.
"We're still stuck within the station so…" Miranda trailed off.
Kacey walked towards the control panel and saw the grated path that led to what she assumed was Jack in cryo. She could see four YMIR mechs on standby next to the path.
"Shepard, if you hack that control, every door in the cellblock opens." Garrus said.
"If we want to get Jack out of stasis, we will need to do it." Miranda added.
"I'm doing it." Kacey said, "Be ready."
It didn't take long for Kacey to hack the terminal and bring Jack out of stasis. The YMIR mechs activated as Jack was promptly lifted out of from their frozen prison. As the smoke cleared, Kacey was surprised to see their all-powerful convict.
Jack was a scrawny woman covered in tattoos. She was shirtless, aside from small straps that covered her breasts. Her trousers were torn in places and her boots were worse for wear. She was, in essence, not what Kacey had expected.
"That's Jack?" Garrus mused.
"Looks like it." Kacey said.
Jack gasped as her body defrosted, with anger painted plainly on her face. She quickly pulled her arms, legs, and neck from their restraints. She gasped again as she broke herself free and was faced with the YMIR mechs. In an instant, she ran forward and single-handily punched one of the mechs through the wall, causing it to explode and the wall to crumble.
"We have to go." Miranda said as the trio made their way down to the stasis pod.
Large bangs could be heard throughout the facility as Kacey, Garrus and Miranda followed Jack through the holes she had made upon her escape.
"All guards: restore order!" Warden Kuril yelled through the intercom, "Lethal force authorised! But don't kill Jack! Techs: lockdown! Lockdown!"
"SECTORS: SEVEN, NINE AND ELEVEN HAVE LOST LIFE SUPPORT. NO SURVIVIORS." The ships computer rang out.
"Well, she works fast." Kacey mused.
They managed to make their way to the main area of the prison. Fires burning everywhere, prisoners and guards alike were shooting at each other, and the lights were on back up energy. It gave the area a deep red hue.
"And we're supposed to have her on the Normandy?" Miranda mused.
…
By the time the trio came across Warden Kuril, the bodies of several inmates had littered the floor. The Warden stood above them on a platform and was quick to shoot and kill each body he saw.
"You're valuable Shepard." Warden Kuril said, "I could've sold you and lived like a king! But you're too much trouble. At least I can recapture Jack."
"He wanted to sell you to make money?!" Kaidan said angrily.
"Not like he succeeded in doing so." Kacey said, "Terminus is like that. It feels like you're walking on eggshells wherever you go."
"Not happening!" Kacey shouted, "You are a two-bit slave trader and I don't have time for it!"
"I do the hard things civil governments are unwilling to!" Warden Kuril shouted, "This is for the good of the galaxy!"
"You know that saying "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions"? That pretty much summed it all up."
Warden Kuril began to fire at the trio. Kacey noticed a shield form around the warden, and two shield pylons powering said shields. While Garrus and Miranda kept the warden distracted, Kacey snuck over to the first shield pylon and destroyed it. Kacey then made her way to the other pylon, keeping the guards that had appeared at bay and off Miranda and Garrus. She quickly destroyed it and switched over to he Incendiary ammo while Garrus overloaded Warden Kuril's shields. The ammo burned right through the warden's armour, killing him.
…
They found Jack by the loading dock, and Kacey shot the last guard in the room. Jack turned to face Kacey with a scowl.
"What the hell do you want?" She spat.
"She sounds like a charmer." Kaidan smirked, "And you said she's teaching at Grissom Academy?"
"Yeah, she is."
"To rescue you." Kacey replied calmly, "You're in a bad situation, and I'm going to get you out of here."
"Shit, you sound like a pussy." Jack sneered, "I'm not going anywhere with you. You're Cerberus."
"I'm here to ask for your help."
"You show up in a Cerberus frigate to take me away somewhere. You think I'm stupid?"
"This ship is going down in flames." Kacey replied, "Look at your options. We can get you to safety and we're asking for your help."
"We could knock her out and take her." Garrus mused.
"Not helping, Garrus." Kacey sighed.
"I'd like to see you try." Jack replied, "Look, you want me to come with you, make it worth my while."
"Join my team and I'll do what I can for you."
"Don't make promises you can't keep." Jack snapped, "I bet your ship's got lots of Cerberus databases. I want to look at those files. See what Cerberus has got on me. You want me on your team? Let me look at those files."
"Okay."
"What?"
"Okay." Kacey repeated, "I'll give you full access."
"Shepard, you can't be serious." Miranda said shocked.
"No, I'm serious."
"You better be." Jack said.
…
"Welcome to the Normandy, Jack." Miranda said calmly, "I'm Miranda, Shepard's second-in-command. On this ship, we follow orders."
Kacey stood there quietly in the Briefing Room, wondering when Miranda became her second in command. She carefully observed Jack as Miranda addressed her and could see annoyance in the biotic's face.
"Tell the Cerberus cheerleader to back off, Shepard." Jack said, "I'm here because of our deal."
"Miranda will let you into the system." Kacey replied in her commander voice, "Let me know what you find."
"Here that, precious? We're going to be friends." Jack sneered, "You, me, and every embarrassing little secret. I'll be reading in the hold or somewhere near the bottom. I don't like a lot of through traffic. Keep your people off me. Better that way."
Jack left the room, followed by Miranda. And Kacey knew those two were going to be a problem if they were together.
…
"Wow." Kaidan replied, "So let's see; you went on a suicide mission with Garrus, Joker, two Cerberus agents, a former STG agent, a master thief, a tank grown krogan and a crazy biotic convict?"
"Yeah, and we're not even covered the other half yet." Kacey laughed, "Trust me, it gets even crazier."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah."
"So, what happened after that?"
Kacey's smile faded, "Horizon. Horizon happened."
"Oh." Kaidan said, "If you don't mind me asking; How did you end you end up on Horizon?"
"The Illusive Man told me the colony was under attack." Kacey replied, turning away and standing up, "He also told me…that you were there."
"He…what?" Kaidan stood up and held both of Kacey's hands, "How?"
"I honestly don't know." Kacey replied, "I always assumed he said that to mess with me. He knew everything."
"Kacey I—"
"Commander?" Joker's voice rang out through the intercom, "We've arrived at the asteroid."
"Okay, I'll be at the shuttle bay in five." Kacey said, "I know what you were going to say, and I appreciate it."
"You know me well, Commander." Kaidan smiled.
"Come on," Kacey smiled back, "Let's get going."
