The day after Logan's return

The chosen few arrive at Roman's apartment. Frank and Karl arrive together, followed by Karolina, Gerri and Stewy.

"Stewy?" Shiv hisses at Kendall. "Seriously?"

"He's my oldest friend. We can trust him."

"I thought I was your third oldest." Stewy greets them in turn. "Shiv, Rome." He holds out his arms to Kendall. "The old bastard. We should have known."

Kendall steps into Stewy's arms. He remembers Stewy holding him like this at the wake, how devastated he had been, and for a moment he allows himself to feel a glimmer of happiness that his father isn't dead after all. He brushes that feeling away. He needs to hold onto his anger.

"You told him already?" Shiv asks.

"He messaged me last night." Stewy turns to the other two. "'Logan not dead. Meeting tomorrow etc.' Naturally I assumed it was the drugs talking, but I called Roman and he confirmed." Shiv glares at Roman.

"Well, we better tell the others." Roman glances into the lounge, where Gerri is talking to Frank and Karl.

Kendall takes the lead, walking in and clearing his throat awkwardly. "Everyone should probably sit down."

"What's going on, Kendall?" asks Karolina.

"Sit down, please." Reluctantly, everyone does, including Shiv and Roman after exchanging a look. Only Kendall remains standing.

"So, this may come as a shock to you all," he begins. "Some new information has come to light."

"Speed it up, bro," Roman mutters.

"Our father is alive."

There's a murmur among everyone assembled. Frank and Karl both look concerned for Kendall's mental state. Karolina looks at Shiv, nonplussed. Only Stewy looks calm and amused.

"It's true," Shiv interjects, before anyone can say anything. "The three of us saw him yesterday." Roman nods to confirm. "He faked the whole thing, so the sale would go through."

"That's impossible," says Frank. "We saw him on the plane." He gestures at Karl and Karolina. Gerri looks away.

"Really? You saw him die?" Roman asks. "You didn't, by chance, just see him on the floor having chest compressions and assumed it was real?"

"But—" Frank looks at Karl, who looks equally stunned. "The medics on the plane."

"All paid by him."

"Tom," says Karl. "Tom saw him die. He was the one who found him—"

"Tom was in on it," says Kendall. "Aren't you glad you voted for him instead of me?"

"Fuck," Frank explodes. He stands up. "I can't believe it. This is the most twisted thing he's ever done."

"You don't believe this?" says Karolina. "This is obviously some lunatic scheme to get the company back."

"It's true," says Shiv.

"I believe it," says Gerri. "That's why he didn't want me on the plane, because he knew I wouldn't fall for it… no offence, guys."

"I can't believe it," says Karl. "But, what difference does it make now?"

"You're all heart," says Gerri.

"I just mean, the company is sold. Frank and I are out. You and Karolina managed to hold onto your jobs somehow…"

"Because we're good," says Karolina.

"The sale went through under false pretences," says Kendall. "We have a legal case to get the company back."

"Of course that's all you care about." Shiv rolls her eyes.

"Kendall has a point," says Stewy, who is the only one there who appears to be enjoying himself. "I voted against the sale, but those who voted for it might have voted differently had they known."

"I sure would have," mutters Frank.

While everyone is bickering, Roman gets up quietly and walks into the kitchen, where he pours himself a large glass of whisky. He hears familiar footsteps behind him and turns to see Gerri standing watching him.

He has so much he wants to say, but "Drink?" is all he can muster.

"Sure." She watches with one eyebrow cocked as he prepares her a martini without asking.

"So," she says. "You must be happy."

"Happy that my did tricked me into thinking he was dead? That he didn't care that my heart was broken, as long as he got his precious money?"

Gerri shrugs. "If Baird walked in I'd be happy no matter what the circumstances."

"Yeah." Roman hands her the drink and takes a sip of his own.

"It'll be okay, Rome," she says.

"Did you know?" Roman asks. Gerri looks at him, startled. "It would explain why you didn't try to comfort me at all that day. Did you at least suspect?"

Gerri hesitates and he can see she's almost tempted to say that yes, she knew or suspected. It would take the edge off the pain of her walking away from Roman when he needed her the most. That's why she couldn't bring herself to hug him, because she knew deep down that Logan's death wasn't real.

He doesn't believe it for a second.

"It's okay," he says. "I know you didn't know."

"If I did, I would have told you," she offers.

He nods. That's something. "Thanks."
