They drove home in silence. Rachel had slept most of the way, casting an occasional glance at Eddie, whose eyes were firmly focused on the road. She knew he was angry with her, and she could feel an argument brewing and waiting for them when they got home. She didn't really care. In her view, she had just done her job.

Eddie slammed his bag down as they stepped into the hallway, making an effort out of kicking his shoes off angrily. Rachel remained calm, hanging her coat up as she removed her shoes. She knew his emotions were bubbling over and that he would explode at any moment.

"Go on, say it" she said, breaking the deafening silence

"Say what?" he grumbled

"How you're feeling, you're opinion on what I did" she answered

"Does it matter what I think?" he challenged

"I won't apologise, if that's what you mean"

"Then it doesn't matter what I think" he shrugged

"Eddie, what was I supposed to do? Hm? I was hardly going to leave Bianca in that caravan when I knew what Gary had planned!"

"I know, Rachel, I get that. But YOU put yourself in danger trying to protect her when the Police could have and were handling it!!! It's not just you that you have to think about anymore, you have a baby to think about too!"

"You should know by now that I will go above and beyond for my students, Eddie. It's MY job to do that!"

"Even if that means putting OUR daughter at risk?"

"Yes!" she snapped, without even thinking

Eddie shook his head in disbelief.

"That isn't going above and beyond, Rachel. That's being selfish. Putting yourself in harm's way without even thinking of the consequences is selfish!"

"And think about what the consequences would have been if I'd have just walked away from a student in need of my help, Eddie! What would have happened then?"

There was silence, not because Eddie didn't know what to say, but because he knew his words wouldn't change anything.

"I will not apologise for what I did, Eddie. If you can't accept that I will go above and beyond for the kids at Waterloo Road, then maybe you should leave" she added

"The school, or you?"

He saw her flinch and he instantly regretted his words as the tears welled up in her eyes.

"Whichever you think best" she mumbled, making her way up the stairs
