Chapter 55: Pyro's Birthday and the Smarty Pants Story
When they arrived they went to the judge and Lucky explained to the judge about Pyro and her parents. He thought about that a little then sighed. "You're really gonna look after that filly?", he asked. "Yes sir. She doesn't want anypony else. I explained to her about the orphanage, but she refused saying she wanted to stay with only me and Sweetie Belle. I even told her I was 16 and way too young yet to look after her, but then mom told me about her being only 17 and me 5 when she took me in. I thought and reached the decision I would look after her while here in Hoofington and when I catch the rest of the DMS, mom and ma could look after her and she be like my little sister until I'm actually old enough to adopt her.", Lucky said. "I see... well, I suppose I will accept your request for a grant to get her paperwork." He took out some papers and started to fill them out.
Eventually he turned them around and gave Lucky the quill. "You'll have to fill out some spaces and sign some things." Lucky nodded, took the quill in her magic, and started filling out what she had to fill out and sign where she had to sign. When she was done, she turned the papers back around and then the judge put them away and got out one sheet of paper and signed it, saying he gives Lucky permission to get the paperwork for Pyro. "Alright, awesome. Thank you sir. Oh right, also, paperwork saying that for now I'm her legal guardian." He nodded, then got out some papers and Lucky did what she had to do, again. When it comes to adopting, she will be going to Princess Celestia, like Rainbow and Applejack had done when they adopted her. Lucky finished the paperwork and gave it back to him. "I believe that's all... and if I think of anything else I have to do, I will come here but if you can think of anything too, let me know.", Lucky said. "I can't really think of anything either Princess, so for now you may go." Lucky nodded.
"Thank you sir.", she said. The judge nodded. Lucky and Pyro left and headed off to the jail. When they got there and to the area where they talk to the prisoners, Pyro was hiding under Lucky. Lucky noticed she couldn't see Pyro, then remembered what she herself had done when she was 5 and she looked under herself. Lucky chuckled. "Pyro, what are you doing under me?", she asked. "I don't wanna see dem and I don't want dem to see me... dey're bad ponies.", Pyro told Lucky. "I understand.", Lucky replied, then looked up to see the two coming into the room. "Well, if it isn't the fillyfooler Princess.", the male said. "Enough with the name calling. I'm here to ask where you have Pyro's birth certificate and paper work so that I may have it seeing as I am her caretaker. I have papers from the judge saying I have access to them." The female looked at the male then back at Lucky. "So you really are her caretaker now huh? I knew it would happen. Pyro's been clingy to you since she had gone to you for help, I can just tell. Well fine, I'll tell you where they are. They're back in the alley where we used to live. They're in a folder underneath a pile of bricks. It's in plastic so it doesn't get wet. Now is there anything else you need to know so you don't have to come back?", she asked.
Lucky thought, that was a good question... "Not that I can think of at the moment... oh wait, when was her last doctor and dentist appointment?", Lucky asked. Pyro looked up at Lucky like, 'are you serious?'. She absolutely hates the dentist. She doesn't mind the doctor much. "She's due for a doctor's appointment, but she went to the dentist 3 months ago. You'll see the cards for her next appointment for both doctor and dentist in the folder as well. Is that all?", the male said. "I do believe so. I think that's everything. I hope. It seems like it should be, so now I will leave you alone." The two turned tail and left the room. Lucky sighed and turned around herself and looked under her. "You can come out now Pyro. They're gone." Pyro walked out. "The dentist... really?", she asked. They started walking out. Lucky chuckled. "Yes, the dentist. You don't have to go for another 3 months though, so it's all good. The doctor, we'll see when we get to the alley." So when they got to the alley, Lucky saw the pile of bricks and lifted them up with her magic and found the plastic covered folder. She took that out with her magic too and set the bricks back down, with her magic. Lucky took the folder out of the plastic, then took out the birth certificate. She looked at Pyro's birth date. It's May 12th! In two days. "Pyro, do you know your birthday is in two days?", Lucky asked. Pyro shook her head 'no'.
"Well, you should know when your birthday is, and your birthday is May 12th. Today is the 10th. You're going to be 4. How exciting! But if you're 4, then your mom would have had you at 15... jeez...", Lucky said. Pyro smiled, ignoring the part about her biological mom. "I'm gonna be 4! I can't wait. Princess, how old will I be when you get all of da DMS?", Pyro asked. Lucky frowned. "I don't know Pyro. Hopefully you'll still be 4, but I just don't know.", she said. Pyro looked at the ground, sad. She wished she could help the Princess find the rest of the DMS members. Pyro then looked up in realization. She can help! She can make a wish on her birthday candles, she remembered being told about making wishes on birthday candles and blowing them out and the wish coming true. Lucky looked at her questioningly. "What's up Pyro?", she asked. "Nuffin'.", Pyro replied. Lucky raised an eyebrow, but didn't pry. They headed back to the apartment and Lucky put the paperwork away in a safe place after checking the appointment cards. The next doctor appointment is for next month on the 5th. When it comes closer for the dentist, she will check the dentist appointment card. Lucky finished up her school and Princess paperwork a little later. Pyro wanted Lucky to play toys with her, so Lucky did. When it came time to make supper, Lucky went and made supper.
When it was done, Lucky and Pyro ate. After supper, Lucky wanted to take a shower, but there was nopony to watch Pyro, so she had to wait till the morning. When it came to 8:45, Pyro was tired and wanted to go to bed. Lucky tucked Pyro in and bid her good night. Pyro returned the good night and Lucky went to the living room and watched a little tv until 9, when Sweetie came in. Lucky turned off the tv and looked to the door and saw Sweetie coming in. Lucky smiled. "Hi Sweetie Belle. How was work?", she asked. "It went ok.", Sweetie answered, closed and locked the door, closed the shades, and sat next to Lucky, leaning into her. Lucky put a wing around Sweetie and put her cheek on the top of Sweetie's head. "Oh Sweetie, Pyro's birthday is in 2 days. How about we throw her a surprise party?", Lucky said. "Really? Wow, sure. We could invite everypony here and I could decorate with my sister and Pinkie and you could take Pyro out for a while while we decorate and Pyro won't know.", Sweetie said.
"Yeah, I could take her to the park to play and also I could take out the letter to Rarity and add an invite for her and ask if she could bring some decorative stuff. Aunt Pinkie too, but not her party cannon, that would not be a good idea in an apartment. I'll write the invites now so they have more of a warning.", Lucky said. Sweetie nodded and they got out of the cuddle. Lucky went and got some papers and envelopes. She started writing invites to the Mane 6, the other 2 of the ex-Crusaders, and the two Princesses. Well, 5 of the Mane 6, Rarity's letter she just added the invite in. She then put them in the mailbox and cuddled back up with Sweetie. After a little, "I'm gonna get my shower, ok? Wanna come in the bathroom with me or will you go to bed?", Lucky asked. "I'll come in with you." Lucky nodded and headed off to get her shower. When she got in, "Not too many ponies were mean to you?", Lucky asked. "No, not really. They just ate their food and probably listened but I'm not sure. The ponies at least ignored me if anything. There were some ponies who did listen and liked my singing." Lucky smiled. "That's good. At least your workplace isn't that bad. Plus, I can't even think of anypony who wouldn't enjoy your singing. You have an awesome voice." Sweetie blushed and smiled. "Thanks..." Lucky smiled, she knows she made Sweetie blush. So after the shower, they decided to go to bed.
On the 12th, Lucky got up at 6 because of Pyro bouncing on her bed. "Hey, Princess, it's my birfday. Wake up.", Pyro said. She remembered what Lucky told her about not yelling in the apartment. Lucky groaned. "K... Happy birthday Pyro." Lucky sat up and Pyro launched herself into Lucky's forelegs. "Whoa Pyro, careful. ~chuckle~ Happy to be 4 huh?", Lucky said, hugging Pyro. "Yeah. Do I start school dough? (A/N: that is Pyro's way of saying 'though')", Pyro asked. "No, you start school at 5.", Lucky said. "Oh... aww. Well, can you teach me tings before I go to school at 5?", Pyro asked. "Maybe, we'll see." Pyro nodded. The three got out to the kitchen and had breakfast. At 9, Lucky heard the mailbox and she checked it. She got letters from everypony saying they will come to the party, but the Princesses can't, because of their Princess work. Rarity and Fluttershy said they'll meet up with Twilight and Twilight will teleport them and the others to outside the old apartment they had and walk to their new apartment while Lucky takes Pyro out. They'll be there at 3:00, that way Apple Bloom and Scootaloo can get out of school and do their homework for a bit. Sweetie did say Happy Birthday to Pyro. Oh yeah, Lucky also invited Machine. So, at 2:55, Lucky took Pyro out to the park. Rarity congratulated Sweetie on getting her job back and hugged her. "Thanks sis. Did you see mom and dad?", Sweetie asked. "No, I didn't. We came right here."
"Ok. Lucky did give me their letter so I could read it myself. They were happy for me." Rarity smiled. There was a knock on the door. Sweetie opened it to see Machine. "Hi Machine, come on in. You're just in time to help decorate." He nodded. "Alright. What do you want me to do?", he asked. "You can help with the streamers.", Pinkie said. Machine nodded and proceeded to help put up the streamers. Applejack and Apple Bloom started making the cake, Pinkie, Rarity, Machine, and Sweetie decorated, Twilight blew up the balloons, tied them, and put the strings on, Rainbow and Scootaloo put up the pin the tail on the pony, and got out other games then put out the presents on the coffee table, Sweetie and Lucky had gotten Pyro birthday presents separately the day before Pyro's birthday so Pyro didn't know, and Fluttershy arranged the music with her animals. The decorations got done at 3:15 and the cake was finished at 3:45 (I think? I never made a cake so idk how long it takes :/ ) Lucky, at 3:45, had a feeling she could bring Pyro back so she brought Pyro back to the apartment and arrived at 3:50 at the building, but to their own apartment at 3:52.
Lucky used her magic so the others saw her aura and Twilight turned the lights off and they all hid. Lucky and Pyro went through the door and saw the light was off. "Why's da wight off?", Pyro asked. Lucky grinned and turned it on and said 'Surprise!' with everypony else. "Whoa! A surprise party? Cool!", Pyro said excitedly. "Happy Birthday Pyro.", said the ones who haven't told her Happy Birthday because they weren't there earlier. "Tanks. I'm really surpwised evewypony." Yesterday midafternoon she had finally gotten the word 'really'. She had been practicing 'thanks', which as you see, she hasn't gotten yet. "Oh wow, your speech is getting better. Your lessons are coming along nicely.", Twilight said. "Thanks Miss Twiwight.", Pyro said. "Congrats Pyro, you just said another word without your little foal speech.", Sweetie said. "I did? Oooo, wight, I did say 'thanks' normally. Yay! I tink I wanna stop with pwacticing wiff words for now. It's my birfday. Wet's pway togeffer!", Pyro said. They played pin the tail on the pony. Though this game has velcro instead of a pin. Pyro went first of course. She did... well, let's say she tried pinning it on one of the actual ponies XD Pinkie went next, she put it well away from the picture. So did most ponies.
Rarity got closer than the others, Applejack did well, but still nopony really got the tail on the pony. They all had misses, most were well away from the picture, the rest got closer than the others. So, the rest of the games were played, and then it was time for cake and ice cream. Pyro wished that she could help Lucky find the rest of the DMS and catch them, then she blew the candles out. She blew them all out at the same time. The ponies cheered and Sweetie Belle cut the cake and gave a piece to everyone and gave who wanted ice cream with it, ice cream. Then after it was present time. She opened Lucky's first. It was a toy cat. It was white. "Oooo, pwetty! Thanks Lucky!" Lucky smiled. Lucky still has her own calico cat from when she was little. Pyro opened Sweetie's next. It was a toy microphone. "Cool, I can sing just wike you Sweetie. Maybe I could pwetend I sing in a westauwant wike you. Yeah! I'll do dat." Sweetie smiled, touched by her idea. Next was Rarity's. It was a pretty dress. It was red with yellow accents. (A/N: idk fashion, but hopefully that would look good with Pyro's colors :/ Pyro's coat is orange and her mane is red and yellow)
"Wow, pwetty. Thanks Wawity.", Pyro said. Rarity melted at how Pyro said her name, it was so adorable! Next was Twilight's present. It was... you guessed it, a Smarty Pants doll. XD It's a new one though, one from the store. "What's dis?" Everypony who knows what happened the one time when Twilight enchanted her own Smarty Pants doll snickered. Lucky is confused, as well as Pyro. "Oh yeah, I haven't told you about the time Twilight enchanted her Smarty Pants doll did I?", Rainbow said. "No... what happened?", Lucky asked. "Well, this was still early after Twilight moved to Ponyville. One day Twilight thought she was going to be late handing in her friendship lesson to Princess Celestia, so she at first tried to help one of us with a problem, it didn't really work. We all thought she had nothing to worry about when she told us she was going to be late. She got mad and went off somewhere. Probably to her house. After that, she decided instead of finding a problem, she would make a problem. She looked through some stuff and found her Smarty Pants doll. She used the 'want it need it' spell and showed it to the, at the time, Crusaders and they fell under the spell.
"When she couldn't break up the fight, she started to panic, and when she saw Big Mac walk by, she asked for his help breaking up the fight. That didn't work. He ended up under the spell too, then as Big Mac was galloping through town, everypony who saw the doll fell under the spell. It turned into a whole town chaos. At sunset, Princess Celestia turned up and solved the problem, but she was really mad. I've never seen her mad before. It was... kinda scary, I'll admit. Even Applejack said, 'Whoa nelly.'. Us, thinking Twilight was going back to Canterlot, went to her rescue, saying we should have taken her feelings seriously and that problem never would have happened in the first place. From then on, we all wrote letters of friendship lessons to the Princess.", Rainbow said. "Oh wow... Jeez Aunt Twilight.", Lucky said. Twilight blushed heavily. Pyro looked at her Smarty Pants doll uncertainly. "Don't worry, I got that from the store. You can see it comes with a quill and notepad so you can pretend she's doing her homework, much like Lucky and Sweetie do. With that Princess work, Lucky gets her homework, and Sweetie gets hers too." Pyro looked a little happier at that. "Neat, den I can kinda be in school, wiff my Smarty Pants doll." Twilight smiled and nodded.
Next up was Rainbow's present. It was a Wonderbolts doll. "Oooo... what's dis?" Lucky laughed and others giggled/chuckled. Rainbow was in shock. Then again, Pyro is only 4. "It's one of the Wonderbolts. The Wonderbolts is a team of amazing fliers. Maybe I should have given you tickets to one of their shows. Then you could actually see them in action.", Rainbow said. "It's fine. Maybe Lucky and Sweetie could get tickets sometime for us. Thanks Rainbow. I still wike it anyway, eben if you didn't tell me what it was." Rainbow grinned. Next was Fluttershy's present. It was a net tower thing, that was only half the height of Lucky's leg, and it had a caterpillar in it. "Oooo, a caterpillar! It's cute." It came with food for it. "It will eventually turn into a butterfly. Then when it does turn into a butterfly, you can release it in the park.", Fluttershy said. "Wow, I really would wike dat. Thanks Fwuttershy." Fluttershy smiled gently. Next was Pinkie's present. It was a painting of everypony done by herself. "Oh wow. Who made dis? It has ebewypony.", Pyro asked. "I made it myself! I thought you might like a picture of everypony, so I painted a picture of everypony myself. Glad you like it!", Pinkie said. "Thanks!", Pyro said. "No problem!"
Next was Applejack's present. It was a pretend fruit set. "Thanks Applejack." Applejack smiled. Next was Apple Bloom's. It was zap apple jam. It was in the freezer since it was made, so it was preserved. "What's dis?", Pyro asked. "It's zap apple jam. It's seriously good, especially if it was Apple Bloom who made it. Making zap apple jam is her special talent after all.", Sweetie said. Apple Bloom smiled. "Can't wait to twy it den.", Pyro said. Then she opened Scootaloo's present. It was a mini boombox. Small enough for a 4 year old and easy enough to use. "That's so you can practice your dancing. Maybe if you practice enough, you can be a really good dancer. Or you could just use it for listening to music, doesn't matter.", Scootaloo said. "I would actually dance wiff da music. So I could pwactice my dancing if I wanted.", Pyro said. Scootaloo smiled. Last was Machine's present. It was a mood pony. It could read the aura of a pony who touches it and would change color according to that emotion. "What's dis?", Pyro asked. "It's a mood pony. It changes color according to the mood somepony is in who touches it. Right now it's saying you're happy, even though you're confused. It only reads moods, not emotions. Happy is pink, sad is blue, mad is red. (A/N: idk what a mood is, but I know feelings, so... going with the basic 3 for now until told otherwise XD)", Machine explained.
"Oh ok. Neat! Thanks Machine." He smiled. So, Pyro's day went very well. She loved all her presents and she had a bunch of fun with everypony. When she was going to bed, "Princess, Sweetie, my wish is gonna come twue. I bwew all da candles out. I can't tell you what I wished for dough, den it won't come twue.", Pyro said as Lucky tucked her in. "Oh really? Well, when it does come true, you'll have to tell us what it was, because we don't know what you wished for.", Lucky said. "I will. Night Princess, Sweetie.", Pyro said as she settled down. "Night Pyro.", the two older mares said, then they went to bed as well.
A/N: Well, probably not the best of chapters, but it was still cool having Pyro's birthday be in this chapter ^^ a 4 year old now, that's really cool, and her speech is getting better :) well, next chapter will be a good one, and you'll have to read it to find out why, that is, after I post next chapter XD oh yeah, I keep forgetting about Sweetie being in school too ~facepalm~ well, she gets homework and she does it too. Next chapter I'll try and remember about it :/
