It's been quite a while since I've written anything, but this is a plot bunny that just wouldn't leave my head. Hope you enjoy!-Kitten

Prologue

Brown eyes felt like they were boring into his soul. He couldn't believe she was speaking to him. Her lips were moving but his ears didn't seem to want to cooperate. There was a high pitched ringing taking away her words.

Even now he could feel his face growing hotter, his hands getting sweaty.

This was the first time anyone had said anything nice to him. It was such a strange moment, and he wanted to savor it.

And in that instant that he wanted it, the scene rewound almost like when watching the telly. He had to turn his ears on. And sure enough, his favorite part.

A blur of brown curls flew past his eyes and even now, knowing what happens. He wasn't ready. She hugged him! Him, the freak!

"Harry - you're a great wizard, you know." Her voice washed over his ears, and he could feel them burning.

"I'm not as good as you," said Harry, very embarrassed, as she let go of him.

"Me!" said Hermione. "Books! And cleverness! There are more important things - friendship and bravery and - oh Harry - be care-Boy. Boy, GET UP! GET UP!"

Her soft voice changed in an instant, it became deeper and louder. No where near as kind.

That was new.

"GET UP BOY, NOW!"

And just like that, it was gone.

Harry blinked his eyes open and glimpsed a dark shadow towering above him.

He could recognize that walrus stash anywhere. He sighed in the only safe place he could, his mind.

He hurriedly swiped his hand across his eyes trying to rid them of the grit. Just as he reached to open the car door, it was ripped from his grasp. His arm grabbed at the elbow as his uncle dragged him from the taxi and towards the hotel.

This is the first time he'd ever been and he couldn't help but stare and let himself be pulled across the lot.

He'd never left England before, this is the first. But his uncle was supposed to meet his sister in a place called Atlanta. It's in America. And because Noone could watch him, he got to have his first holiday.

Talk about luck. If he stays this lucky they might just leave him in the hotel room and he could have a go at the telly. Or maybe even pull out his trunk and get started on his homework. Ugh, yeah, that sounds a mite bit boring.

"Yes, Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia?"

His uncle turning an interesting shade of red as his mustache twitched. Uh oh, it looks like Mt Vernon is about to erupt.

"Did you hear nothing boy?!"

Nothing works, apologize.

"I'm sorry, uncle Vernon, I was distracted."

His aunt just stood there with her arms crossed and her nose in the air, like if she'd smelled something particularly foul. And that something just happened to be stuck beneath her nose. Its crazy that she only acts this way in front of his uncle. She says what Vernon wants to hear.

He tried to be patient and not fiddle but he couldn't help but to tap away lightly at the shrunken trunk in his pocket. He knew it was coming. Like clockwork. She knows just what to say to distract his uncle.

"Don't mind the boy Vernon, he's just like his mother. She always did have her head in the clouds."

His ears started to ring again, like they did when Miss Crawleys hair turned blue. Or he appeared on the roof after being chased by his primary school bullies. The ringing was deafening.

Calm down, focus. Not here, not here. Think of something else, anything.

A flash of brown eyes and even darker curls crossed his mind. And suddenly he could hear again.

"-ving, don't leave the room, don't answer the door. And empty the suitcases into the drawers. If you can do that and not ruin anything, we might bring you back some leftovers."

Harry followed behind his aunt, uncle and cousin and made sure the door was locked. His aunt turned giving him a slight wink. His cousin shrugged and shot him a half smile.

Then they were gone. He sighed aloud. And sunk his body against the door.

Finally, he was alone. With any luck his aunt snuck him some goodies in hers and Duds suitcase.

He flicked his right wrist and felt the hard wood wand snap against his palm, while his left fished out his trunk. Grateful he thought to take food from the kitchen before leaving hogwarts.

Harry tapped his wand against his trunk and watched it grow. His smile breaking across his face. "I love magic."

He couldn't get his ham and cheese toasty out fast enough. He hadn't even finished his mouthful before reaching for his jar of pumpkin juice. Only munching could be heard throughout the room. Until finally Harry was sated.

He sat on the edge of the bed lost in thought. Flashes of brown eyes and brown curls, a beautiful smile, played around the edges of his sight. Hoping and praying he could see her. She and her parents are supposed to be in Atlanta too.

Her parents were Dr. Daniel and Dr. Emma Granger. They had some sort of health summit that they were attending. With any luck...

I hope ill see Herm-

A tingle raced through his body. Sending shivers to rack his small frame. He could feel all the hair on his body stand on end. A deep feeling of dread filled him.

He didn't dare move an inch as he listened frantically. As if waiting for someone to actually speak to him.

His scar didnt burn not since a few weeks ago, now his scar was just a faint line, barely there.

What is this?

He didn't know how long had passed but suddenly there was a rapid pounding at the door. He could hear his aunts shrill voice.

"Harry, open the door!" This was the first time his aunt had ever used his name in front of his uncle. Let alone aloud, rhrough a door. He walked slowly to her voice. He could hear his uncles heavy breathing as he got closer, his cousins weak cries and his aunts whimpers.

He turned the knob slowly and it pushed open from the outside. And his cousin rushed in. There was blood, so much blood.

His aunt walked slowly dragging his uncle across the entry way.

"Harry! Harry!" His aunt beckoned him. Her eyes were wild. But all Harry could see was the blood dripping against the floor. "Go get the bucket and fill it with ice, quickly Harry. Harry go!"

For a moment Harry lost focus. Not Harry! so much blood, and green light. Step aside girl!

"Harry! Please! I need to stop the bleeding! before one of them comes!"

One, what? Is it a dog?

His legs moved mechanically one in front of the other. He grabbed the ice bucket and held it in a crushing grip. "Dudders hold the door open and watch your cousin. Dudley! Focus, please Duddy! If you see one, yell for Harry to get in and close the door."

He ran back to the room. And his cousin held the door open for him.

Harry didn't know what was happening.

He looked at his aunt and he almost smiled when he saw his uncle standing, he was fine. He was hugging his aunt. Harrys smile froze.

His uncles eyes were open wide. They were grey voids of emptiness.

His aunt was flush against his uncle and blood was dripping down her back and neck. Only then did he see her face. Her eyes wide open in terror. Pain etched in every inch of her face. His uncles teeth tearing into her. He was biting her.

What the bloody hell!

Harry could only stare in horror, his jaw dropped and the bucket fell from his cold finger tips. Her lips were moving. "Run!"

A/N This is just a snippet, let me know what you think. I had just this scene floating around my head. And I had to write it down. If you think I should continue, let me know. I'm curious if it's something you all would like to read. -Kitten
