Lilim gave me a blink and a quizzical look. "Whaddya mean?"
"School is not exactly a thing you can shrug off. You are going to get subjected to a rather 'rude' society."
"I am good," The succubus assured as we were making our way to the place. "Plus, I have studied all I needed to know for this first day."
"...Did you?"
"Yeah, I found a brochure of the school. Surely they had all I needed to know there."
Oh right, those things... you know, the stuff that is pretty much enrollment propaganda to pull new students in. Man... this is going to be quite awkward. At least I could say that the other day spent at the gym was quite fruitful to have my body readied for the newer threats up in the air- the dread of that visit at Shiranui's place... yeah, that was going to be freaky.
But for now, I focused on the main issue of today- which is Lilim's first day at school. She had her school bag, appropriate clothes, and even had the right books. She mentioned having 'luckily met the principal' and expressed her case to the point that the 'nice man kindly had her enrolled when she asked'.
The sheer amount of illegality that Lilim's survival relied upon was outrageous but, due to circumstance, reasonably fitting. Plus, she was a demon- so it was fair to say that the tendency to break rules, moral ones or not, needed an outlet somehow.
Still, I was looking up to this. As I was done crapping my pants on being caught by Shiranui, I managed to cool off and manage to get my mind back on the grind game. I managed to up the scales a bit and...

I had a lot of fun. I couldn't exactly go for too long or for too much, but I managed to get a lot of stats improved through that visit. Also, this chance gave me the opportunity to learn what happens once a skill reaches it's maximum level- well, a combat skill.

At first glance, this doesn't seem like much. A 'reset' of sort? No, it was more than just that. At level one, [Boxing EX1] gave a +2% addition to its boost with each level rather than the sad 1% of its basic form. It meant that, if evolved again, it could end up with a +4%. The potential to grow were immense. And the chances that this was a red flag for grand troubles just made the good news mixed at best.
I still made progress, and that was all that mattered at this point.
As Lilim passed through the gates, the attention she was getting from both boys and girls proved to be as oppressive as expected. And that was the funny thing- it was from both boys and girls in equal measures. All seemed to be enticed by her, but she managed to limit her 'arousal-inducing aura' to the minimum as to just get them 'interested' to talk with her.
Many looked eager to do so, but none did due to something- or someone: me. I was walking there, calmly so, and with Lilim literally rubbing her elbow with mine how close she was to me. Nothing absurd happened, no, that was reserved to when we got to our classroom and-
"Momo-chan! Look at that, Shingo-kun made a new friend!"
The chinese-dressing hair-bunned girl nodded at the doll-making loli. "Yup, Mika-chan. Will she be a friend or-"
"Oh! I want to make friends! Hi, I am Lilim and Shingo is a nice friend of mine- are you his friends too?"

"Oh, he gave me food when I was hungry since... I had a bit of trouble with food, but now I am fine thanks to him!"

Ugh.
The entire school day was pretty much that. The girls were gushing over me, chatting about it, and even plotting to 'thank me' for helping with the Lilim's 'feeding situation'. I could literally hear them plot how to 'properly thank me', and this felt like the subplot for something nefariously lewd.
Luckily for me, however, Mika acted as the 'innocent touch' needed to keep it from steering into that. Plus, I am sure Lilim was aware I wasn't into gratuitous debauchery as I had made it present to her a few times. So, I was glad that the end result was a mixed bag with a handmade doll that looked like me, an 'all-you-can-eat' card for the restaurant owned by Momo's parents, and... cookies?
"I made them!"
At my house, in my kitchen. Yes, I could see that happening. Still, a quick bite confirmed quality- she also 'borrowed' the recipe from mom as I could recognize the unique flavor to it, a hint of banana.
"Those are so good, Lilim-chan!" Mika exclaimed in delight, nodding as Momo melted at the sweet taste.
"Yeah, you're so good at cooking."
Lilim was smiling eye-to-eye at this, and I could say she made quite the impression at school on this first day she spent there. She clearly liked it and... we decided that she could visit my house since we could do homework together. That seemed to be enough to put her in a good mood as she could get another piece of human normality to enjoy without having to sneak around to have it.
All in all, this was a fun way to entertain the day and...
Then I was asked by Usagi to tag along the study group she had with Ami and Rei. Lilim tagged along, and it became a tense situation very early on as Lilim stuck close to me. Usagi was confused as she herself could see all her friends eyeing the 'harmless' girl for seemingly no reason- yet, I could instantly get what was up.
Rei and Luna were both incredibly good at perceiving 'foul energy'. And while Lilim was not affiliated to the Dark Kingdom, she was still a demon- I could tell Rei, a priestess, could tell something was wrong with her energy, chi or whatever she senses nowadays. Ami's situation was a bit more awkward as I made a test and could now say that she was, for some obscure reasons I hope were not tied to some doujin version of this character, a shotacon.
What was the experiment, you ask? Well-
"Nee, Ami-senpai. Is it true that this formula could be simplified to this one?"
From glaring to Lilim, she was smiling to me.
"Sure thing, Shingo-kun. And do call me, Ami-chan."
I am... honestly pleased by the attention, not sure by the volume and intensity of it. I may be looking too deep into this, but I have a feeling I have to just be precatious and keep an eye out for 'surprise situations' around the girl. How should I react to those? I mean, I am mentally able to make that call, but then it would still be a moral one due to my real disposition being unknown to the rest-
This world is crazy, that much I could see by myself.
As the homework was all done, it was night time. Lilim left to go back to her 'home', while I prepared for my post-dinner shift. I had been tempted to skip it today as I had the day before but... I needed to be out. I heard of a few criminal affairs that had left me perplexed and I wanted to be there to keep an eye out for the civilians of Tokyo.
So, after I was done with the meal and made sure everyone was asleep, I went out for a solo patrol. This time around, I could happily say that...

Not much was cooking in town. In fact, I was about to leave so soon due to how 'calm' everything was. I just had this feeling that there was more to it. Like a gut feeling or something pretty close to it telling me that I was up for something dreadful tonight. I was about to deny this feeling by just retreating back home but...
I caught a rather interesting 'heist'. In fact, this one was an actual kidnapping as the System was keen to show to me right as I spotted some thugs running into a van and driving fast away from one of the fancy hotel in town.

Now, I would be fine with just the rewards, but the Failure's points left me stunned. Whoever got kidnapped by these morons, it was someone tied either to Metal Gear or Evangelion. I couldn't think of anyone of the former, but the latter was equally devoid of potential leads. I mean, who would be up to be kidnapped like this as all major characters were all covered by good security?
Despite that, I shifted fast to catch up with the rushing van, keeping up with it and ultimately landing on top of the vehicle. I wasn't as quiet as I would be in previous occasions due to how sudden this was happening and how fast the thing was moving.
I didn't hesitate in rushing to the driving seat and proceeded to put the driver out of commission with a double-kick entry. The criminal on the passenger seat opted to stabilize the vehicle rather than try to shoot me. The van turned fast, almost flipping, but ultimately coming to a stop-
"It's Moon Knight!"
Ah yes, when you are so famous that any criminal knows they have to be worrying about you coming.
Still, I couldn't exactly pause and give autographs as the three remaining men bolted out of the car, ready to try and kill me as they were armed with SMGs. I had to move quick and offer them no chance to get a clear shot on me.
The one on the front passenger seat went down with a quick jump from above and me planting both boots' soles against his welcoming face. I used the hook to get out of sight for a moment, depriving the two remaining morons of the chance to get an in-range chance to get me.
Soon their weapons were dealt with through some precise cutters' action, and I rushed with my hook to take them both with a double-kick entry to take the closest one out and then punch the other one into nap-time. I looked around for any surprises, maybe a fifth member that had kept in the back of the van to keep an eye on the hostage but... nope.

The shaking individual was without any surprises as I entered the vehicle, cut the ropes holding her hands together and removed the sack from her head. Her eyes blinked open, aimed at me and I found myself briefly pausing over her familiar face as the game gave me a full confirmation of who I was looking at. Short brown hair, nervous yet lively eyes... This one was definitely not Ayanami Rei but...

She was a close enough 'relative' to her.
"Are you... alright?"
She blinked, still shaking and then nodded. "I-I am."
"You are having a panic attack, aren't you?" I questioned, she nodded and then- tackled me. I didn't see it as an attack even as she rushed me, not when I felt her sob loudly over my shoulder, her grasp tight and unwilling to let go for the time being as she hyperventilated.
I hugged her back, patting her upper back as I quietly told her that 'she was fine' and that 'the morons were all dealt with'. It was a few minutes of quiet embracing before she ultimately let go of me. She looked a bit better now that she had that unpleasant feeling out of her chest and she... blushed.
"T-Thank you. I shouldn't- I mean-"
"You were panicking. It's alright. Just... hang in there as the cops should be-"
As I said that, I saw three police cars bolting for the van.
"That. I need to go and... don't worry, you will be fine."
