"Date Night"
Trudging up to the Astronomy Tower, George managed to avoid Filch and Professor Umbridge's Inquisitorial Squad with ease. Despite having given the Marauder's Map to ickle Harrikins two years ago, he still knew his way around the castle with a deftness that belied his jokester nature. He could be serious when he wanted to–and he was glad that Harry's godfather wasn't here to read his thoughts, because hoo boy he did not need the added stress or pressure of making tonight go well on top of dealing with the prankster extraordinaire that was Padfoot.
No, tonight had to be perfect, because exams were starting tomorrow, and his date was going to be nearly delirious from exam stress. Added into the fact that he and Fred were planning on making a grand exit tomorrow as well, and he didn't want to put anything to chance.
Cleaning out a few cobwebs from the corners, George transfigured a box into a wrought iron bistro table, with two matching chairs. Out of the picnic basket he was carrying came two candlesticks with holders that were enchanted to not let the wax drip past them, two place settings, as well as a bottle of Muggle sparkling juice–a grape variety; apparently the muggles don't make sparkling pumpkin juice–and a tiny speaker that he had enchanted to play soft mood music.
There were many reasons as to why he picked the specific things that he did for this date, and the majority of them boiled down to the fact that he really liked this witch. Depending on how well this evening went, he may even confess to her that he loved her. The Muggle items were a nod to her heritage, the candlelit dinner to show her that she deserves to be wooed, and the astronomy tower for the privacy. He knew she preferred to keep their relationship on the down low, only because some of her friends wouldn't understand.
And he was fine with it. Because he knew that one day he would be waiting for her after graduation with a ring in hand, ready to go down on one knee to ask her to spend the rest of her life with him. But only if tonight went well. Because if it didn't, then they both would have time to let their hearts heal before trying something new with someone else.
Shaking his head to dispel those maudlin thoughts, George set the table up, leaving the food for last. Lighting the candles with the tip of his wand, he then sat down in one of his transfigured chairs to wait. He and Fred had made a special trip down to the kitchens for this, and had packed the picnic basket full of wonderful food fitting for a date.
Footsteps on the stairs drifted to his ears, and George perked up, an excited expression on his face. The door opened and in walked the love of his life, her face lighting up upon seeing the gorgeous set up.
"Why hello there, beautiful!"
