"Christmas List pt 2"
The most frustrating thing about Christmas this year was that she had intended on shopping early for everyone's Christmas gifts and not leaving it to the last second like she did last year. Rose had even written out a list of everyone she needed to get gifts for, as well as what she wanted to get them. This list had been made out and taped to her kitchen wall since Halloween–always conveniently hidden when guests came over–but things just always seemed to get in her way or dissuade her from getting things done early.
She had to work late, she forgot the list at home, a sudden large expense for the flat came up or a sudden vet bill would come due, or a thousand other excuses until finally, December 23rd–not quite Christmas Eve but also not as early as she had wanted–Rose was finally able to make it out to the department store to pick up the last of the gifts she needed.
Scorpius, as always, tagged along cheerfully, always interested in seeing which shops she went to. And just like last year, he also did his Christmas shopping, finding the most expensive things and buying them.
They hadn't gotten that far into their two year relationship yet to talk about finances or merging their bank accounts, but seeing the price tags on some of these things made her pocketbook cry out in anguish.
Shopping for her youngest cousins now, Rose found the perfect section for them. There was an entire section devoted to footie kits with matching armbands. Able to rationalize the price of each kit with only getting it for each cousin and not anything else, Rose did quick math in her head and picked up an adult sized kit with a matching armband for her boyfriend. Scorpius liked that the younger kids looked up to him. She might as well help him fit in. She was planning on keeping him, after all.
Once again, Rose found Scorpius in the jewelry section, and had to drag him out.
"No jewelry this year, remember?" she stated as she dragged him to the registers.
"What if it wasn't for you?" he retorted, sticking his tongue out at her.
"Your mom likes more expensive pieces and both of your grandmothers wouldn't be caught dead inside a department store," she pointed out.
Scorpius paused for a moment.
"Okay but maybe I was looking at things for your mother and grandmother! It's never too early to get into their good graces," he replied. Rose snorted in amusement.
"So long as you keep me happy, I'm pretty sure Grandma Molly will keep you around for forever." The two of them laughed as they waited their turn in line.
Laying her head on Scorpius' shoulder, Rose sighed at the long lines. Next year. Next year would definitely have to be the year she starts her shopping early.
