Chapter Eighty-Five: Aftermath
Kagome smiled down at all four of her children nestled in their caravan stroller. It was a four-seater she had to custom order in order to fit all of her children. Two seats sat side by side in the front and two seats mirrored those one row behind. Her boys sat up front as it had more space for their larger bodies while her daughters were tucked securely in the back. Their legs were too little to kick their brothers' seats, so they were able to ride comfortably.
It'd been close to a year since Inuyasha's arrest. Roughly seven months after that incident she'd given birth to a healthy set of fraternal twin girls who they'd named Yua and Hina.
Kagome glanced down at her infants. Four pairs of piercing blue eyes stared back at her. It seemed as if Touya's shade of blue eyes had remained the dominant trait for all of their children.
Of her youngest children, Yua had been born just ten minutes before her sister. Like her brother Tatsuo, she also had a tuft of red hair when she was born. However in the months since then a strand of black had formed to frame one side of her face. Like both of her brothers though, she'd been able to use her father's azure flames since birth.
Hina on the other hand was her sister's opposite. She was the first of their children to be born with a head full of white hair. Yet just like Yua, a strand of black developed and now framed the opposite side of her face compared to her twin. Shortly after she was born, she'd formed ice crystals down the length of her arm and cried when Yua's flames melted them.
What shocked them the most though was when both girls linked their hands together roughly three months after they'd brought them home and the familiar coral-colored shards of the crystallize quirk had formed in the palms of their interlaced hands.
Katsuo and Tatsuo often marveled at their sisters' quirks, poking and prodding at the shards whenever they would randomly sprout from the girls' skin.
Lately they'd been mixing the two elements, forming shards that were either white or blue. Whenever she'd touched one out of curiosity, the white shards would freeze her fingertips while the blue ones burned her.
She knew that it was going to take a lot of time and effort to help both girls gain full control over their powers. For the moment, the twins appeared to be enjoying the chaos of making their mixed shards and flinging them in random directions. One of the shards had melted a hole in the upstairs floor while the other had turned the toilet water into a frozen wasteland.
Touya nearly had a heart attack when he'd seen the bill to repair all the damage. No matter how much money they had in their bank account, seeing that many zeroes was still a sticker shock.
Beside her Kikyou laughed as her own daughter giggled happily, reaching towards Hina from her stroller. Her twin had named her own child Hoshi, after the stars in which she and her husband had met. Like her father, Hoshi had inherited his gecko quirk. Her skin was a solid green with scales while her eyes were the same shade as her mother's Her hair was black like Kikyou's as well.
So far they'd met up every few weeks to give the children some play time together. Hoshi was only one month younger than her own daughters but she and Hina were almost inseparable when they were together. Hoshi often cried when it was time for them to go home. Honestly it was adorable how attached the girls were to each other. The boys were always just confused about what the big deal was.
"I heard that Touya was assigned to another big case." Kikyou filled the silence between them.
Kagome nodded in affirmation, "I don't know the details but they recently apprehended an S-Class villain with a doubling quirk." She brought her caravan stroller to a stop, "All I really know about the case is that he didn't put up a fight when they arrested him. Touya is at the station with Hawks right now to figure out what to do with him."
Her sibling gave a thoughtful hum, "Hopefully it'll be alright."
She nodded in return.
"So what about Shuichi? Did he start on another project?" Kagome changed the subject.
After Higuchi had published his book, it hadn't really done all that well. Kagome believed that part of the issue was society itself not being ready to tackle such a heavy topic. Heteromorphs were still being discriminated against every day and it hurt her to think that someone might be openly cruel to her baby niece. Regardless of her rocky relationship with Kikyou, her daughter truly was cute as a button.
She'd briefly thought about writing a book on the topic herself but decided against it. The person best suited to bring awareness to the issues heteromorphs were going through would be another heteromorph like Higuchi. So she instead focused her attention on writing more romance novels and smut.
Unfortunately Rei, Fuyumi and even Kikyou all discovered her dirty secret when they found her manuscript during spring cleaning a month ago. Touya ultimately laughed when he found out and offered to help with her 'research'.
"He's working on a new book. This time he wants to be less heavy-handed on his message." Kikyou scratched at the side of her cheek sheepishly, "I've been making good money with my hero work so we don't have to stress while he's at home writing his novel and taking care of Hoshi."
Kagome nodded in return.
She perfectly understood that one. Thus far she'd opted to remain as a stay-at-home mother while their children were still toddlers. Her books were bringing in more than enough money for them to retire and pay for all four of their children's education, she still felt antsy about being home once the kids were old enough to go to school. She needed to have things to do. So she'd already told Touya that once the girls were in school, she'd start looking for full time work. Much to her husband's annoyance, Hawks had overheard their conversation and invited her to work at his Agency to take care of all his paperwork needs. She wasn't sure if she'd take his offer yet but Touya was still irritated with his colleague.
"More importantly," Kikyou threw her a playful look. "I'm surprised you've made it this long without getting pregnant again. Did you make him go through with the vasectomy?"
Kagome laughed, "No, because of my restoration quirk a vasectomy would be useless. I'd just undo the surgery almost immediately afterwards. We've just been using protection is all."
He sure did complain about it though. Touya was not fond of the fact that the condoms cut off so much of his circulation. He was still able to maintain with no problem so she just figured that he'd gotten spoiled on going without them for so long. She did find other ways to make him happy though. It'd taken her a while to get the hang of going down on him without the use of a condom, but by now she knew exactly what he loved the most. If they couldn't have regular sex without protection, then she'd give him the next best thing. It seemed to work as his complaining grew less frequent.
"Oh," Kikyou reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone. "I actually got a message from one of Glitter Bomb's producers. They're asking if you and Touya would be willing to make a public appearance since they're doing a special on all of your antics in every Sports Festival you two were in."
"I'll have to talk to Touya about that one." Kagome cupped her chin thoughtfully. "We agreed not to make any public appearances until the kids were a little older. Although I don't think it'd be a bad idea to just give a phone call interview rather than an in-person one."
That way they could protect Touya's new appearance and their children at the same time.
Kagome blinked as she saw her husband's contact flash across her phone. Wordlessly she answered it.
"Hey babe," Touya greeted her on the other end of the line. "Do you think you can make extra food tonight? Hawks is bringing a guest over."
She curled a strand of her hair around her index finger, "I don't mind but your mom is doing the grocery shopping right now. You might want to call her before she's done. We'll be making tempura tonight."
"Will do, thanks. I'll see you and the kids when I get home." He finished before hanging up the phone.
Kagome glanced at her sister, "Looks like I need to add an extra seat at my table."
Her sibling laughed as they parted ways at the train station. Hina whined while Hoshi cried, both babies upset that they were being forced to part.
"There, there." Kagome cooed at her youngest, "Daddy's coming home early tonight."
Tatsuo perked his head up, "Dada?"
Two weeks ago her boys started talking for the first time. Tatsuo's first word had been 'dada'. He'd shouted it when Touya came home that night and held them in his arms. Her husband grinned ear to ear and told her that he won this round. She'd been certain that Katsuo would say 'Mama' first however the boy pointed towards their cat and yelled 'Hagi' as his first word.
She had been a tiny bit salty about the incident but Touya had more than done his part in helping her feel better later that night. It was a good thing they were using protection otherwise she'd single-handedly create her own army of offspring. Especially with her penchant for having twins.
Tatsuo repeated the phrase again with even more excitement.
Kagome smiled down at them, "That's right. Daddy's going to be home soon, so we should hurry."
She pushed the caravan stroller onto the train and started the short trek home.
She had a lot of work to do and not much time to do it.
