Chapter Twenty-One
A Celebration Of Life
A/N – Well let me start by making a comment on the first part of the last chapter. I purposely didn't add names just describing the experience and how two people can be so close. Have fun with guessing who it is. Anyway, it was a pretty loaded chapter for sure. The Documentary will impact the famliy as the future unveils and I promise in a good way. I know sometimes the Board Meeting stuff is a bit mundane, except for business geeks like me so I tried to make it informative but fun. And finally, Wyatt and Lyndy have graduated. The party is next but more importantly this open the door for them to begin to learn the business more completely. I am confident most of the family understands their role in the future and without a doubt they will be successful. Oh and I guess there will be an announcement coming as well that will bring a lot of joy to the family, but be aware, there will also be some big challenges. There is a busy summer ahead with the Kids Rodeo, Olympics, Company Rodeo and many other things. The Bordens will be busy and always on the go. I expect I will need several chapters to get everything is in to make sure the continuing story of the family develops and grows. I will never stop saying that you should continue let me know how I am doing, it means a lot to me. I would love to hear from more of you. My readership is growing slowly but I appreciate those of you that are enjoying my story. Mature Content – Enjoy!
It was early afternoon when the Borden family got back to the Miracle Ranch. Wyatt and Lyndy were a little behind the rest of the family as they hovered around after the ceremony to remind some friends and professors about the open house. Amy and Ty were overwhelmed with how everything looked and immediately went to thank the Walsh girls for their help. Luckily, there was already food set out as the group was pretty hungry after the longer than expected graduation ceremony. Some guests were already there and greeted their host happily, congratulating them. About 40 friends and family were already there when the guests of honor arrived. As they walked up, Clay put the U of C fight song on and everyone hooted and hollered. The Bordens had already changed into more comfortable clothes and after greeting everyone, Lyndy and Wyatt went to as well after they handed all of their awards, diplomas and caps to Annie and Jeremy so they could put them on display. As they got changed Lyndy, who was in his favorite bra and panties came up behind Wyatt and hugged him whispering, "Do you think they will miss us for a little bit." Turning around he laughed, "Well first off, it would be more than a little bit and second, there are people waiting for us." As soon as he finished his last word, there was a loud bang on the locked door and Maddie yelled, "Hello you two, this is your party and everyone wants to know where you are." Lyndy laughed, "Chill sis we will be down in a few minutes." Five minutes later, the happy couple came down to a round of applause and hugs from everyone. Lyndy spent a little longer hugging her mom and sisters and Wyatt after hugging Ty picked up JT and razzed him about yelling out before his speech. "So dude, really you had to yell out?" He smiled looking over to Shawna, "She made me do it." They all laughed and went to grab some food. The party sized fluctuated as Wyatt and Lyndy made sure they met with everyone. They couldn't help but see the gifts piling up but had decided that they would hold off on them later and even contemplated doing it tomorrow. The young couple were happy and a glow came easily to them as they laughed and talked with everyone. They made it a special point to sit for while with Jack, Lisa, Casey, Max, who had come up as well along with their parents, Lou and Soctt. The group was set up in an area where they could see everything going on and were being visited by everyone. Jack had been feeling his age and needed a place to sit so the others happily sat with him. Lou laughed, "Look at all of us, a bunch of oldies hanging together watching the youngsters having a blast. I can't believe those two have graduated and are getting married. So Amy spill, have they set a date." Amy looked down and softly spoke, "I don't know but hopefully they will tell everyone soon. Maddie has been pestering them telling them soon since you and her have a lot of work to do." As they sat, Lisa motioned to Lyndy to come over to the group. Lyndy grabbed Wyatt's arm and whispered, "Hey I think they want to see us." He smiled and they headed over. As they did others noticed that they needed to be alone, so the Boden girls kept everyone occupied. They sat down with the group and Lisa spoke up. "We are so proud of you two and what you have accomplished and what your future holds. So this group here would like to give you your gift now that is for both of you. We all pitched in so let's just say it is an investment in the future of your lives and the future of our company." Jack cleared his throat, "Before you open it I want you to know how much this groups loves you and respects you for what you have done and more importantly, along with your siblings, Georgie and Katie will do in the future. Wyatt your speech today was amazing and what you both achieved is something that makes all of us proud." Amy spoke shakily, "We love you both and are so happy that you have graduated and are getting married. Dad and I, well everyone here loves you so much and we decided to give you something to help you move forward." Amy handed a card over as Lyndy and Wyatt as they tentatively took the card, almost afraid to open it. Jack laughed, "Well you gonna open it." Lyndy grabbed th edge and began sliding her finger to open the card.
The party was really going well. As always the Borden kids were being perfect host and were often seen talking to the variety of the guest with pride and love for their graduate siblings. Several professors and staff from the college showed up and they made a special effort to make sure they were welcomed and shown where the food and drinks were, especially while Lyndy and Wyatt were huddled with the elder group. Addie screamed and everyone heard it including her mom and sister as she saw a car approaching. She ran to the SUV with a big smile yelling, "It's Desi, he showed up." In preparation they had set up an area just for him and his parents that would keep him protected. As he get help out of the truck, those that weren't at the ceremony to see him were amazed at how mobile he was as he walked around to greet people with Addie clinging to his arm and his worried mom just behind them. He came up to Annie and Jeremey and Annie joined in her sister hugging him gently. Jeremey laughed, "Man bro, the girls will be all over you." Annie poked him and said, smiling at his parents "We are so happy you were all able to make it and escorted them over to the area they had set up. She smiled, "Lyndy and Wyatt are with the elder group but I know as soon as they are done, they will be right over." Desi smiled, "Well I couldn't miss their day and mom, I am good." His mother smiled and relaxed a bit as Maddie and Ricky took her and Desi's father to the food table. Everything was going well and the girls kept looking back at the huddled group to get a sign of what was going on. Lyndy pulled the card out and noticed a money envelope inside as well. Her and Wyatt quietly read the card and note and saw it was signed by the entire group they were sitting with. Lyndy's hand shook as the read the note and her eyes became misty. Wyatt spoke up for them, "Thank you all for the nice comments, we both feel very lucky to have all of you in our lives. We will not let you down and will make sure we continue to focus our lives on the family and our company." They all smiled as Ty spoke up, "Thanks guys but you need to open the other envelope." Lyndy took the envelope, opened it and pulled out a cashier's check. On the bottom line it said, "For Your Future" When they saw the amount them both turned ashen in disbelief which soon changed to meek smiles and blushes. Lyndy whispered breathlessly, just so only the group could here. "This is way too much. I mean I know it is from all of you but I can't believe it." She looked at Wyatt as he grasp the amount of the check. I mean don't take us wrong, this is amazingly generous but it is a lot of money, why?" Lisa smiled and since the others were a little choked up spoke up, "Kids this is an investment and you can do what you want with it, but we hope that when the time is right, you use it to get your own place. Georgie and Steven are settled in the home above the Heartland Barn and with the improvements and modifications to the Heartland Ranch house Katie and Clay have plenty of room for the four of them and maybe a couple more in the attic apartment so to be honest, you need s place eventually." They smiled as Lou continued, "And we won't lie, we consider this an investment in the future. Between us here, we helped both of your cousins as well when they first got started so it is your turn." Max smiled, "I know that our family is united in our love for the two of you and we know that you will be a big part of the future. Like Lou said, this is to help you get that future underway." Amy was finally able to talk, "When we did this for Katie and Georgie, we decided that this would be just for Scott and Lou's kids and your siblings. And that numbers are not the issue, it is what we want to do for all of you. So, although Georgie and Katie know the others don't know yet, so it is important that we keep this between our family group until the time comes for your sisters and brother." Wyatt and Lyndy understood and went to hug each of them. Ty laughed, "So regarding the actual check, why don't you give it to mom and we will lock it up in the safe." They smiled and agreed completely as neither of them had ever see that big of a check. The group chatted for a while longer, when Maddie noticed they seemed to be almost done and came over, "Hey sis and bro-in-law, if you are done here there are about a million people that want to see you." Everyone laughed as the young couple walked away as Lyndy clutched onto the card tightly. Jack smiled, "Four down, four to go."
By late afternoon, the party was in full swing. Lyndy and Wyatt were taking a break sitting with Annie, Addie, Maddie, their boyfriends as well as Clay, Katie, Haley and Rusty. They were talking and Haley seemed a little antsy and Maddie spoke up, "What is up with Haley, you been on edge since you got here." She smiled, "It's nothing, I am just so happy for these two. Another vet and horse whisperer, who would have thought." The all laughed when Haley jumped up yelling, "Finally!" The group looked in the direction she was facing and saw three rather large SUV's heading down the drive. Amy and Ty saw it too and immediately knew who it was and smiled heading their way holding hands. The SUVs stopped and four well-dressed security people got out to greet them. "Good morning Dr. and Mrs. Borden, we have some party crashers here so I hope you are Ok with it." Amy smiled heading toward the second SUV as Justin and Maryanne Trudeau hopped out as the other four kids got out of the last one. Right behind them was Haley and Rusty along with Wyatt and Lyndy. As the kids piled out Maryanne hugged Amy tightly and Justin shook Ty's hand smiling, "Well we received the invite, so here we are less Brad, who is still in Europe playing hockey. I hope you don't mind?" Hugs were all around as many looked on overwhelmed with the fact that the Prime Minister and his family were there. Lyndy ran over to Elana for a big hug. Annie and Addie joined as well hugging Ezzie and Emmie and finally JT ran over to Bart for a hug as well. Over the years the kids had stayed in touch but to be able to see them all again was a surprising bonus. They younger kids ran off as Lyndy, Wyatt, Elana, Haley and Rusty stayed with their parents to catch up. Maryanne smiled at the new graduates, "Well look at you two. Justin and I are so proud of you and what you have accomplished. And a little bird told me that a wedding announcement is in the near future." Lyndy blushed, "Well maybe." Justin spoked to them sincerely, "We heard what you did for those horses you saved, that was pretty amazing and brave. Although the people around you kind of helped, it was you two that made it happen. I have to say, you were the talk of the capitol for a bit. How are the horses doing?" Wyatt smiled, "Well they have all have owners lined up, and many are already home. The two that were hurt have owners but they still need a little rehab and some time with Amy's team before they are ready to go." Everyone smiled as Amy and Ty were beaming with pride. Lyndy spoke up, "I can't believe you guys are here and a surprise no less." Maryanne smiled, "Are you kidding me, we wouldn't miss it for anything and the kids wouldn't top asking. Nothing better than hanging out with the Bordens." Lyndy smiled again giving her a big hug. Justin continued, "Well we do have an ulterior motive. Maryanne and I have to go to Vancouver for a few days and were wondering.." Before he could finish, JT came running over, "Mom, dad, can Bart stay with us for a few days?" Justin laughed, "Well that." Ty smiled, "Of course they can stay, we could use the help." Everyone laughed as Maryanne spoke up, "Well I am starving let's eat." They all headed to get some food and mingle. The family was excited to see them and the Trudeaus made sure they spent private time with Jack, Lisa, Max, Casey Lou and Scott to catch up. The Borden kids were having a blast with the Trudeaus and all of their friends who were there. The party was in full swing and everyone was enjoying being with family and friends. Lyndy and Wyatt snuck up to their room to freshen up and take a break. Lyndy whispered, "I think we got away without being noticed, I just needed a break." He smiled pulling he into a hug and kissing her ear lobe, "Yea me too, you know maybe we could have a little fun?" She looked up into his eyes, "Wyatt Miller, we will have a lifetime for that but it's time." He smiled looking back at her, "Are you nervous?" She smiled, "A little, are you?" He laughed, "Yes and no, but it is time. Let's go future Mrs. Miller, we have an announcement to make." As the happy couple walked out they were holding hands and immediately were overwhelmed by everyone wanting time with the couple of the hour. Maddie grabbed Lyndy's hand and drug her over to the other Borden girls and a group of their friends. Wyatt saw Desi and headed his way, "Hey Des, you are looking great, I saw you and your parents at grad, I hope my speech wasn't boring." Desi laughed looking over at Maddie and her sisters, "It was awesome brother and trust me it hit home. These Bordens are something. Addie has been amazing during all of this and even her and my mom are on the same page now. It was a little tense early on but she stood her ground and my mom respected that. I love her Wyatt, but I figure you understand the reasons as much as I do." They continued to chat until JT and Shawna headed to Wyatt. JT laughed, "See Shawna he is by himself finally, Wyatt can you come hang with us for a while, before mom and dad give their speeches." Wyatt patted Desi's shoulder and headed off with his little brother.
The party continued until Maddie interrupted the music to get everyone to gather around. "Hello everyone, If we could gather around, my mom and dad have this speech thing to do and I guess so do our graduates. Wyatt is kind of overdoing the speech thing today." Everyone laughed as Lyndy poked his ribs. "Oh and I heard a rumor there may be a surprise as well." Everyone settled as Amy and Ty walked up to the microphone hand in hand. Amy stepped up first and welcomed everyone and thanking them for coming. She looked over at the Trudeau clan, "We are so happy you are all here, even some surprise guest. When Lyndy was born, Ty and I never expected to have our dreams come true. She is an amazing young woman and with the rest of our kids and all of you, our lives are complete. To see her today walk up on that stage was one of a thousand moments that we will always have in our hearts." She put her head down to gather herself. "When Wyatt came into our lives we knew immediately he was special and also noticed that he seemed to look at our daughter a lot. Even though Ty didn't want her to date until she was 30 he accepted Wyatt and a bond formed that came from similar past. Even though he is an adult, when we took guardianship of him it was more than that for us. He is our son which might sound weird since he will soon be our son-in-law. We had several opportunities with how our daughter could date our almost adopted son while living with us. We love both of them and are so proud of what they had accomplished and what their future holds." Everyone clapped loudly as Ty stepped up with Amy in his arms. He smiled and kissed her cheek to a lot of ribbing from the crown. "Well Amy pretty much told you how we both feel about these two." He took a breath, "Right after Lyndy was born, I got my first chance to hold her. After everything I had gone through in life to think that I could be a father of this beautiful little baby was overwhelming. I never told Amy this but she had went to take a shower as I held her, we had our first talk. I told her how much we loved her and that we would always be there for her. I told her she was beautiful like her mom. I told her that I would protect her and that one day I knew she would find someone to love like I love Amy. It was kind of funny but she looked at me bright eyed like she knew what I was saying." He took a breath as the room was silent, outside of some sniffing. Amy held onto him tighter, "Well as most know she has found that man and we couldn't be happier. Wyatt is loved by Lyndy but and by all of us, although I do think he favors JT." Everyone laughed as Wyatt and JT high-fived. Please join me and raising a glass and toasting our graduates, Congratulations to Lyndy and Wyatt!" The group applauded as Lyndy and Wyatt went to hug them tightly and Maddie stepped up to the microphone. "Before we hear from our graduates, we have a special announcement." She motioned over to the Prime Minister and his wife who approached the front of the group. One of his team came up with a covered easel and set it up behind them. Justin spoke up, "Well first off Maryanne and I along with our kids also congratulate this couple on their graduation. We have known them for years and they are the perfect example of good people and what makes us all proud as Canadians. But Maryanne and I have something to present to them. And to premise, this is not a political exercise, this is a personal one for our dear friends, the Bordens. We are their friends and are more proud of that then anything we have accomplished politically." He stood aside and Maryanne took over, "I have to say, hearing my husband talk without a political agenda is definitely enjoyable for me and the kids. If you don't know our children have formed lifelong bonds, because the Bordens are good people and our kids are as well. In fact our oldest daughter decided to stay here after college and is married to an amazing man as well. It seems there are plenty of them here." She hesitated a little but smiled, "Ok, I know this is their party but I have to say something." She looked over at Haley and received a smile, "Our baby is having a baby!" The place erupted as Lyndy ran to her friend and with Katie hugged her tightly. The focus was on them for a few minutes and congratulations came from all around. Maryanne settled everyone down and looked at a smiling Amy and Ty, "Sorry guys, but let's get back on task. Anyway, Canada has an award that is given out every year called the "The Heroism Award," that was created to recognize those that go out of the way to help others, including animals. I personally nominated Wyatt and Lydy and we are pleased to announce that this year's winners are Lyndy Borden and Wyatt Miler." Justin unveiled the proclamation and the place erupted in applause. Justin read through the proclamation and smiled, "Like everyone else here today, we are proud of you and there is something else. The foundation that sponsors this includes a financial reward, so here is a check for $25K dollars for you. Sorry Wyatt, since Lyndy is mentioned first she has to cash it out. You may as well get used to that now because our wives always take precedent in any relationship. Congratulations on this award and graduation. And I guess also getting married soon." Everyone laughed and continued to applaud. Lyndy and Wyatt hugged the PM and his wife and then their family. Their smiles were huge but then shouting came from the crowd, "Speech, Speech!" It was time so they stepped up to the front of the family and friends.
Everyone calmed a bit as Lyndy spoke up first smiling and holding Wyatt's hand. "Hi everybody. We are so happy you all could come today and celebrate with us. Today has been a dream for us and having all of you here is very important. Wyatt and I relish in the fact that we have amazing family and friends. Everyone in our life is special and we want to thank you for being a part of it." Everyone clapped as she continued, "If you haven't noticed, I kind of like this guy and we are proud of our accomplishments and are extremely excited about our future together. College was a challenge along with work and everything going on in our lives but together and with your support we did it. Not going to deny that having a family business to become a part of is kind of nice but it is something we always wanted, together." Wyatt took over, "Lyndy and I are together in our love for the support from all of you. But personally without her I would have never achieved what I have. She had been my rock and foundation and I love her completely. I never dreamt that I would be where I am today but it all started when I met her and she agreed to go out with me." Caleb yelled out, "Yea, I still don't get that." Everyone laughed as Cass poked his ribs. Wyatt continued, "And Mr. and Mrs. Trudeau, thank you so much for the recognition and award. You know, people say that we stepped above and beyond but actually we just did what we needed to do using the values and principles instilled in us by Amy, Ty, Jack, Lisa, Lou, Scott and so many others. We did it because it was the right thing to do. And to let you know, we have decided to donate our award to the Rehoming Center to at least be a part of its success. It means a lot to both of us and it is something we want to do." Everyone burst into applause and after a hugs from Ellory, Amy and Ty, the Prime Minister and his wife came to recognize them as well. After things settled, Addie yelled out, "Geez come on you two we all know you want to tell us, when are you getting married?" Everyone laughed but like Addie, wanted to know. Lyndy smiled blushing, "Well sis and don't worry you will be one of the bridesmaids we actually have decided, to on an exact date but what time of the year." She wanted to have some fun so she hemmed and hawed a bit. "Wyatt and I have talked about this for a while, looking at our lives and what made sense. I am going to go full time with mom and the others and of course my amazing fiancé will continue to work with the vet team and will soon be a fully certified Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and a member of the company's vet staff. It has been hard to determine what works for us and the family. We have decided on our wedding party and also that we want to get married here if it is Ok with you mom and dad." Amy and Ty smiled and shook their heads yes even though they had already been asked. "All in all we have weighed the pros and cons and wanted to make sure we made the best decision. Getting married is very important to us and.." With that another interruption was heard from JT, "Enough with the boring lovey dovey stuff, please let us know, I need to get fitted for a tux." Again everyone burst out in laughter as Lyndy grabbed Wyatts hand tighter and lovingly look over to her mom and dad. Amy tearily smiled back as Lyndy spoke, "Ok, Wyatt and I have decided that we want to get married over the holidays between Christmas and New Years. We want to start the new year as husband and wife and once the exact date is set everyone will know." She was going to continue to talk but the crowd went crazy with applause, laughter and tears. Wyatt attempted to kiss Lyndy but they were over whelmed with kisses, congratulations, hugs and handshakes. As they composed themselves, Lyndy and Wyatt both noticed an emotional Jack heading their way. The group parted to allow the head of the family an open path to them. They walked up to him as Lyndy gently embraced the man that meant so much to her. She stepped back and Jack brought out his large hand to shake Wyatt's hand briskly. He smiled, "Well done you two, Lisa and I couldn't be happier. I have known from the beginning that you are meant to be kind of like your parents and will be a huge part of the family and company future. I love you both very much." Everyone laughed and teared up as they listened to a man they all adored. Lisa stepped up as well congratulating them and laughed, "Well Jack, I guess we have to get you fitted for a tux too?" He frowned and whispered, "Can't I just wear my regular clothes?" Lyndy took his hand and smiled, "Grandpa, with a tux, you will be the hottest man there." He smiled, "Well then I guess it is Ok, I wouldn't want to let the women down." Again everyone laughed and got back to the party which was now abuzz with excitement.
The party picked up when the music started. Wyatt and Lyndy were inundated with wedding questions from everyone there who were mainly family and staff. Ellory came by to see them and again thanked them for their generosity, "You two are something else. I mean I am sure there is a lot you could have done with that money to start your lives but instead you thought of these horses. I am speechless." As she hugged them, Lyndy smiled, "First off it was an easy decision, because we completely believe in what you and your team are doing. It means so much to us and our family since it was what my grandmother would want. Her life and passion are one of the main reasons all of this is here today and I am sure she is happy about what we did and what we all do every day. It makes us proud to be able to help at such a young age but we are so fortunate for what we have already." Amy walked up on the conversation as the three woman hugged again. She laughed, "Well I agree Ellory, these two are something. Thanks goodness most of their kind traits came from their mother." They all laughed as Ty came up and squawked, "Whatever, I was going to say they emulate me a lot too. But is guess they have the best from both of us. Come on beautiful, let's dance." Amy blushed as they walked off as Ellory spoke with the couple of the hour. She smiled, "They are something aren't they?" Lyndy smiled leaning into Wyatt's chest, "Yes they are and we love them so much." Wyatt and Lyndy headed out to dance as well and much to the happiness of the family, Ellory went to find her date to dance as well. The DJ played some slow songs so all of the couples paired up. Annie smiled when she saw Addie and Desi just standing and watching. Addie was moving with the music as we Desi as good as she could. Annie gave her a thumbs up as she kissed Desi's cheek and he blushed really missing being close with her. She promised him that when he was ready, she would make it worth his wait. Lyndy and Wyatt were dancing next to Amy and Ty and she tapped her mom's shoulder. "Look mom, my little brother is with his woman. They looked over and saw Shawna and JT dancing awkwardly but enjoying themselves. Amy smiled, "She is such a beautiful girl and I hate to say it but JT is hooked for sure. Reminds me of you Hun." Ty smiled and kissed her quickly on the lips. JT looked over and smiled as Shawna whispered to him, "I want what your mom and dad have, they are so cute. I mean my dad and Mallory are definitely in love but what your parents have is special. They are the most in love couple I have ever seen." He smiled and looked over to them, "I know and I love them so much." She giggled and leaned into his chest as the dance continued. Everyone was enjoying themselves, even the Trudeaus who stay a little later than planned. As the slow dance finished, Amy noticed that Lisa was leaning over her grandpa talking seriously, Lou, Scott, and Max, also seemed focused on Casey and Amy became alarmed. She pulled on Ty and he looked over to see it too. She leaned over to Lyndy and whispered, "Dad and I are going to see GG real quick, keep everyone entertained." She smiled but sensed some concern in her voice. "Ok, mom, we will keep everyone away." Maddie, Annie and Addie noticed the serious conversation and Maddie instinctively headed over too. Ty looked at her and put his hand up as to tell her to give them a moment. She understood and after a huddle, the four Borden girls took control making sure everyone was occupied. As Ty and Amy walked up, they immediately saw that Jack seemed alright but was very upset about something. Amy looked at Lou talking to Casey, and a cold shiver hit her as a teary eyed Lou looked her way. Somehow she knew it was something about their dad and that it wasn't good. She walked to her sister who immediately pulled her into a hug. Ty supported her as Lou whispered something into her ear and felt her almost pass out. The two sisters sat down and Casey joined them in a tearful embrace. Lisa took Jack's hand as Max And Scott helped him inside and asked Ty to join them. As they entered Jack looked at Ty and pulled him in for a hug and spoke shakily. "Ty, Tim passed. Casey just got a call from the care center he was at. It seems his body could not hold on any more but they assured her it was peaceful and he was in no pain. Lou, Lisa, Amy and I are going to head over there. We need you, Max and Scott to keep things going and make sure the party goers enjoy themselves. Don't tell the little kids yet, we want them to have fun. But you and Scott need to let your girls, Georgie and Katie know. You can decide on JT but it might be best to hold up on him too. Max offered to hang with his group since they really love GG Max." Ty quietly smiled and whispered, "I am sorry Jack. I do want to see Amy before I go." Before he finished the words, the three of them came into the house and Lisa went to get her SUV to pull it around the back. Lou and Amy fell into the arms of their husbands and then their grandpa. Scott and Max comforted Casey as well. Ty looked at Amy and she was devastated. They had went to see him a couple of weeks ago but he no longer recognized anyone, expect Casey and Jack. Jack, Casey, Amy and Lou slipped out the back with Lisa unnoticed and the headed out. The rest of them went back to the party to talk to the girls and cover the missing people.
Ty immediately went to his daughters who knew something was up and Scott headed to see Georgie and Katie. They took the news Ok, since even when Tim was better the relationships they had with him were strained. Ty and Scott asked them to be discreet about it for now keeping the sharing of the news to a small group. Maryanne approached Ty, realizing something was not right and he confided in them as well and included Caleb, Soraya and Mallory with the message. Lyndy and Wyatt offered to tell JT but Ty told them, "Don't worry, actually GG asked Max to do it since they are so close." They smiled in agreement. Annie and Addie asked about their mom and Ty smiled, "Well she is pretty shaken up but did realize that this was inevitable." Georgie asked the same question of Scott about Lou and he answered similarly. The party continued and eventually the guest left. Maryanne asked Ty, "Are you sure that the kids can still stay, we can make other arrangements." He smiled, "Actually I think it will be good they are here. It can keep the kids occupied while we work everything out." Justin looked at Ty directly, "We will be back for the service if you are Ok with that. Please let us know when it is. And the kids just brought casual clothes, so we will have more appropriate clothes sent to the ranch." Ty smiled in agreement as Maryanne hugged him and the headed out, after talking to the kids. The ride to the care center was quiet, especially Jack. He was remembering all of the times he fought with his ex-son in law and how silly it seemed now. He spoke softly, "When Tim thought he had cancer I told him that he wasn't supposed to go before me. When he was Ok he joked that, thank goodness that he saved my life a couple of times. Well…" He put his head down as Amy consoled him, "Grandpa you had nothing to do with this and don't even think it." Casey grabbed his hand, "Jack in his way he really loved you but there comes a time when the past eventually catches up. To be honest before he began to fade he told me he understood that and was ready." Lou gathered herself and spoke to Casey, "Well thank god you came into his life. I think he never seemed happier when he was with you, in his own way. We can't thank you enough for that and are so sorry." She smiled and just leaned into her as the pulled up to the center. They walked in and were greeted by the night manager. She filled them in on what happened and mentioned that the coroner had already been there. She mentioned that Tim was ready to be taken where they wanted. She then spoke softly, "If you would like, I could take you to him." Silently they were led into an examination room when the body had been laid out on a table. All but his head was covered as the manager said it was better as they had made efforts to save him and felt it was best to keep him covered. They stood in silence as Casey was the first to approach him and touch his face. The manager spoke softly, "There was no pain and per his instructions, minimal resuscitation happened. I was here and I can tell you it was very peaceful. We found him unconscious and video showed us he had just fallen asleep. The initial exam just showed he passed but the cause cannot be determined until an autopsy is done. But, as you know Casey, he didn't want one." Jack chuckled, "Sounds like Tim, always bucking the system." The all laughed quietly. Lou and Amy approached him and like Casey went to touch his face. The three women stood side by side looking over his body sobbing quietly. Jack broke the silence and began telling stories about the rodeo days and how cocky Tim was. As Lisa stood back, eventually the three ladies chimed in and the conversation became a remedy for their sadness. They stayed a little while longer and decided to head back. Casey spoke to the manager about the arrangements. On the ride back, they discussed the timing of the wake and service. He was going to be buried in the family cemetery and they all agreed that that would be family only. As they pulled up, Scott, Ty and all the kids were waiting on the porch as Lisa had told them they were heading back. As soon as they got out Ty and Scott went to their wives and all of the kids huddled around Casey and their GG. The went inside where they found that Cass, Mallory and Soraya had prepared coffee and some light snacks. Caleb, Doug and Dillon had shown up too. The Walsh and Trudeau kids were keeping the rest of the kids busy so the adults could have time together. Max was sitting with a quiet JT as well as it seemed he was Ok. They sat around talking until some yawns were seen. Casey, Amy and Ty, went over the details of the next few days. The guest all headed home and the Borden family settled in for the night. The day had been a mix of highs and lows. Amy and Ty made sure to spend time with each of their children making sure they were Ok. They sat a little longer with Lyndy and Wyatt and asked that they keep close to their siblings. Amy headed to their room and Ty looked back mouthing to his oldest daughter, "And mom too."
Amy was the last to get up the next morning and everyone greeted her with hugs making sure they didn't overdo it, per their father's instructions. She was quiet but was very happy at the moment in time to have such an amazing family. As she drank her coffee and tried to eat, JT sat with her for support. He whispered something in her ear that brought a smile to her face. Addie looked at them as laughed, "Telling secrets?" Amy spoke softly, "No, JT told me he will have someone else now to talk to in his dreams but Grandma Marion said he needed to get his act together before they let him into their group." Everyone laughed realizing how real that was. The next few days went well. They delayed the wake and funeral to allow some out of town guest to arrive. Some of Max's family were coming and the Trudeaus needed an extra day. Also some of Tim's old rodeo group and Casey's family were coming in. The Hudson Funeral Home was ready as well to receive the visitors. Normally the service would be at the funeral home but the mayor offered up the town's assembly hall to accommodate the crowd. The burial would be family only along with some invited close friends. Amy invited the Trudeaus, but they decided to head home after the wake as well as Max's family. Amy, Lou and Jack had settled with what had happened as well as the rest of the family. Casey as well had come to the realization that Tim's passing was expected and with the support of Lisa, Amy, Lou and her family, she was doing well. The Borden's were getting ready for the wake as they needed to get their early. Ty sat with Amy at the kitchen table talking when their four girls came down together. Amy's eyes opened wide as she saw them approach, "You four are beautiful and look really nice." They smiled, going to give her a kiss. Ty, sighed, "Girls, it is going to be a long day, let's makes sure we all check in on each other from time to time" They knew he mainly meant their mother and GG. As they talked, a well-dressed JT, followed by Wyatt came down. He smiled and did a spin, "I clean up pretty good don't I?" The all laughed and smiled at their little brother. Lyndy added, "Just think how good you will look in a tux when we get married." He held his head up high, "You know it!" They gathered up and had decided to take two cars in case the kids wanted to leave earlier. They pulled up just when Lou, Scott, Jack and Lisa did as well. They were asked to get there a little early to make sure everything was ready. The girls along with Casey's help had gathered some pictures and awards to put out for people to see. Mallory had a light lunch from Magie's ready for the family and would replenish the food for the family the entire day. As they finished lunch, they went into the parlor to wait for the visitors and guest. A few minutes before the start people started to arrive. The police anticipated a large crowd so the positioned three officers to handle traffic. The turnout overwhelmed the family as it was more than even they expected. They realized that Tim had not always been a person with a lot of friends but the turnout was due to the family's importance in the community. Along with the people who know Tim those that knew the family all came to pay their respects. A large group from the University came, even the Dean and Director of the Equine program with their wives. Maggie's made sure they allowed all of the staff to attend and for that matter, everyone from all of the individual pieces of the company came in shifts so the work would not be affected. A large contingent from the Albertan Rodeo Association came as well as political and government leaders. Even the press showed up and respectfully covered the event but for Amy and Ty, when the team from Good Moring Calgary showed up not to cover the story but just to pay their respects was impressive. This brought a smile of surprise. Sam and Alex approached them with hugs as their partners stood behind them. Sam kept Amy in her arms, "I am so sorry for your loss, how are you all doing." Amy smiled, "We are all doing Ok, my dad was very sick and his body just gave up. We know he is at peace." Ty brought Casey over to meet them and they again paid their respects. People continued to visit and many stayed around telling stories. Jack was sitting to the side joking with many guest telling stories. Amy smiled when she saw JT and Shawna along with Max sitting with him. Lisa and Lou stayed with Casey along with her sisters from Manitoba, making sure she was Ok and making sure she took breaks. Just before dinner, Wyatt noticed two well-dressed security officers enter and went over to Ty, "I think the Prime Minister is here." Justin and Maryanne walked in and immediately their kids went to the Borden kids for welcomes and hugs. Immediately they went over to Amy and Ty along with other family. Maryanne, without words, hugged Amy tightly as their friendship over the years had become special to both of them. Justin followed with a long hug as well as they chatted for a while. Maryanne then saw Casey and she headed her way. Again a long hug was given as she whispered into her ear and Casey smiled. Justin took her hands as well and offered his condolences. Things settled and after the last guest left, the family gathered to talk about the funeral service and burial. Everyone headed home to get some sleep as tomorrow would be a challenge for them all.
The next day the service was pretty amazing. Amy, Lou, Jack and Casey spoke. Several others did as well but one of the most emotional speeches came from Caleb. His relationship with Tim had always been a little tumultuous but in the end he had a large amount of respect for the Rodeo legend. He smiled as his eyes misted up, "Tim Fleming was a complicated man but I will never forget when he came to see me after my rodeo accident. I was a mess and he told me directly to not make the same mistakes he did and to "Cowboy Up. He changed my life and saved me from going even further into the depths of addiction and depression." He sighed, "I never really had a father so Tim was definitely the closest thing to one for me. And don't worry Jack, you were kind of like my grandpa." Everyone laughed and Jack just shook his head. The ceremony finished and everyone headed out before friends spent a last few minutes with the family. The immediate family stayed and said final good byes as they loaded up for a trip to the cemetery. The hurst parked as close as it could so the pall bearers took it the rest of the way. Ty, Scott, Caleb, Wyatt, Rusty and Ben carried the casket to the pre dug gravesite. It was just across from Marion with a spot saved for Casey next to it if she wanted. Over the years the cemetery had grown and the family maintained it, even making improvements. The Heartland symbol adorned the gate as the entire area was fenced in. There was even a section for horses, where Paint, Spartan and Pegasus and a few others rest. The minister from their church said a few words and the family watched as the casket was laid into the ground. It was quiet, outside of the sniffles from tears being shed. Tim had made a lot of mistakes in his life but he was still the father of Lou and Amy and grandfather to their children. The family headed to Heartland for dinner that was being prepared by the Trudeau family as they decided to stay and leave in the morning. Everyone was tired so it would be a short get together. After all of their friends left the Bordens sat around for a few minutes before going to bed. JT spoke up, "I guess we are supposed to say it was a wonderful service, but I think that is weird." Addie smiled and agreed with him, "I know, I mean grandpa has passed away. I just seems weird to be like celebrating. Wyatt spoke up, "Well, I didn't you grandpa as well as you guys but I think it is actually a celebration. I mean my grandma was amazing but there were times when as a teenager I didn't always think that way. When she died I focused on the good times so I could remember her that way. Maybe that is why today, everyone seemed to talk about the good times and not the bad. Does that make sense?" Everyone sat pondering what he had said which seemed to make sense. Amy smiled, "Wyatt, what you said is wonderful and exactly right. My dad had his issues over the years but there were good times too. I would like to focus on those for sure. Lyndy, your man is pretty cool." Everyone laughed as Lyndy leaned in and kissed his cheek, "I know how to pick them." JT laughed, "Yea, like a new saddle." That brought everyone to more hearty laughs and they all realized it was needed. After good nights and hugs they all headed off to bed. Amy laid quietly in Ty's arms as he knew tonight she needed his warmth and strength. He smiled as she fell asleep almost immediately after the very long and stressful days after her dad died. He sat for a few minutes thinking of him and what Wyatt had said. He specifically thought of the time that he tricked Ty to come with him to save the wildies at Will Vernon's place. In his own way he brought them back together and soon after they got married. He whispered, "Thanks Tim" and joined Amy in a blissful sleep.
