Her brother could be stubborn. This was no secret, but she never expected him to be this stupid. She had seen it as clear as day; Bella would be one of them. There had only ever been one other vision that she was so sure of, and that was the one of Jasper when she first woke up. Well, look how that turned out.
She sympathised with how Edward felt about his own mortality or lack thereof, but she couldn't understand how he could refuse to change his mate.
To lose one's mate would be condemning himself to a life of misery and torment. He was willing to let her age and die for what? Some misguided notion that it's better to spend seventy odd years of happiness and an eternity of misery than to change her and love her forever?
No, she couldn't understand it, and even more so, she couldn't forgive it. Bella was family now; the decision was no longer just Edward's.
She wants it most importantly.
She had made assurances to the Volturi that she would change Bella herself, and Edward might be comfortable testing the Volturi's resolve, but she wasn't. To go back on their word would risk the safety of them all.
...and SHE wants its
Alice couldn't stand by and wait for the day Aro came knocking to ensure the debt had been paid. She would change Bella herself, Edward's ego and'morality' be damned. She just had to figure out the logistics. Avoid Edward's gift for the foreseeable future; maybe she could take Bella away on a'shopping weekend'. It's selfish and deceptive, she knows...
But it's what SHE wants...
