Summary: Kagome wasn't sure what exactly led her to pick up that stray cat. Maybe it was her kindness, or maybe somewhere deep down she longed for just a little bit of unpredictability. Perhaps it'd prove to be a mistake, but she had never been one to turn away from anyone in need. Surely vampires couldn't be that different from demons.

Pairing: Undecided. Suggestions welcome.

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or Servamp.

Chapter One

There was something uncanny lingering in the air. She could feel it burning against her senses, yet she couldn't quite put her finger on what it was, or why it bore some sort of familiarity to her. She knew that she had never met someone with an aura like that, and yet…-

Her brows furrowed in concentration. She felt the weight of a stare lingering on her turned back, and she eventually shook her head with a faint sigh.

"That'll probably be problematic later on," she muttered to herself before turning to eye the group that stood opposite of her. She lifted a hand to rub at her brow, sweeping back a longer section of her bangs as she let her gaze sweep over the trio.

On the topic of uncanny, those three fit the word better than most she knew now. She knew why they were there, and she was banking on her luck of feigning ignorance.

"Problematic?" The brunette of the three- She believed he'd introduced himself as Junichiro. He was taller than her with a pair of glasses resting on the bridge of his nose. "What'll be problematic?"

Kagome gave a faint laugh as she shook her head. "Oh, it's nothing," she remarked. "I just remembered there's something I forgot to do," she added as a tempered lie. "It's fine," she stated, flicking her hand in a faint wave. "I'll just worry about it later, you know?"

It was harder than normal to keep up the ordinary shrine maiden ruse with these three. She was walking on thin ice, trying to keep her energy lower than it comfortably rested at, but there was no such thing as being too cautious when it came to this situation.

"Now," she mused, dusting her hands off and clasping them together at her center. "What brings you three to the Higurashi shrine?" she asked.

"We're pretty sure you already know," the blonde intervened. His hair was long- comparable to that of her demon companion's. He didn't exactly reveal it, and, despite how she was perfectly aware, she kept her act alive.

She tilted her head to the side, a flicker of faux confusion setting in her blue eyes. "I'm afraid I don't quite know what you're talking about," she stated.

"Are you really sure about that?" Junichiro asked. His tone was light and casual as he took a step closer to her. "Maybe you happen to have something you really probably shouldn't have?" he continued, seeming to prompt her to answer. "Something dangerous for the likes of you?"

Kagome arched a brow. For a moment her facade nearly fell, but she managed to save it. "Well, we have an abundance of artifacts located here," she responded. "I'm afraid you'll have to be more specific."

Perhaps she was toeing the line of obliviousness a little too closely, but she couldn't deny the slight prod to her skin his comment had dealt. If the Shikon no Tama was too dangerous for her, then there was no chance any of them were even a close match to it. Still, she swallowed her pride and held her tongue before her annoyance could be noticed.

"If it's specific you want, fine," the last of the three spoke up. His eyes were reminiscent of Inuyasha and Sesshomaru's with their gold color, yet there was something more present within his stare. Something almost forlorn. "That piece of junk around you're neck."

"This thing?" Kagome glanced down at the jewel resting against the front of her haori. She reached for it, slipping a finger under the twine string and lifting it up until it came loose. After a second, she shook her head. "This is just rose quartz," she stated. "It's modeled after the Shikon no Tama," she continued, offering the marble up for one of them to take. She reached into her sleeve and pulled a pouch from where it rested around her wrist. "We sell them here at the Shrine," she stated. "They're really popular among kids and teenagers."

That one in particular was just another copy that she wore when she tended to the shrine. Sure, there had been a cut-off in visitors a few hours before these three showed up, but she'd forgotten to put the real jewel back on from where she left it to be protected.

"I wear that because it catches the public's attention," she stated. "From then, we're able to share the tale of the jewel and offer a novelty to commemorate the moment," she explained. "If you'd like, you're more than welcome to have one. Since visiting hours are technically over, consider it a gift," she stated as she took out two more. The colors were slightly different, but they were all made of some sort of crystal. She offered them to the other two and let her hands fall to rest by her sides again.

She could tell by their auras that they didn't believe her claims, but, at the same time, it seemed as if they weren't going to risk it all being true.

"Now," she said as she took a step away from the three. "I'm honored for the visit, but I'm afraid it's gotten rather late, and I still have a lot I need to do before the evening is over," she stated.

"Right," Junichiro nodded, glancing down at the trinket in his hand.

She'd turned on her heel to walk off, and she slowed her pace upon hearing his voice. She let her gaze roam over all three, and for a moment she let her facade break. A flash of her energy was uncloaked to be felt. When their attention snapped to her, she sent them an inconspicuous smile, perfectly aware of the game she played.

"You know, sometimes stories are just stories," she remarked. "Before you try to discern what's fact or fiction, perhaps you should first figure out if it's worth it in the end."

Before she got too far away from the three, a barrier was placed up between them to act as a definitive force against them. She let her facade fully fall, no longer bothering to hide the full pulse of her magic and energy.

"Something like the Shikon no Tama…" she trailed off in a soft tone, "really shouldn't be disrupted from the place it's found dormancy."

Yet again, there was a strange pulse. It caused her to pause mid-step. Those around her on the street grumbled in barely hidden agitation, but she paid it no mind. An alley off to the side had caught her eye, or, more so, the strange aura she could feel seeping from it.

Curiosity soon rose to get the best of her, and she diverged from her path. She shuffled her bags to one arm as she surveyed the area. She let her other hand fall to rest on the brick wall beside her. Appearance-wise, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

Her gaze fell to the ground, and that's when she noticed something.

A cat, small with all black fur, lay on the ground. Before she could assume the worst about it, the ears on top of its head twitched a few times, and its tail flicked to the side. She approached it, but it didn't seem to notice. Even as she knelt to scoop it up in her arms, there was still no reaction given.

For whatever reason, that strange aura she'd been feeling seemed to come from this cat. She glanced down at it for a long while, regarding it with confusion and curiosity in her eyes. After a few minutes, she sighed and shook her head.

"I can't just leave you out here like this…" she mused softly to herself. As she said those words, she ended up turning on her heel and making her way out of the alley with something new in her arms.

At least for now, she couldn't just leave it out on its own.

Auroua-chan: Eve Kagome is such an interesting concept. After all, she's not just some normal human. She's already got a stronger resistance and healing factor.

Pairing is open for consideration. I'm not sure who I want to pair her with. Due to bias, I'm leaning toward Mikuni more than anyone, but suggestions are more than welcome at this point.

Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading and I hope you all enjoyed. Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting but if not sorry.
