Note: Gonna try and get back to writing. WIsh me luck and enjoy folks!

It was the dark of night on one of Konaha's saddest days. The Fourth Hokage, the mighty Minato Namikaze laid dying next to his best friend and wife. His white famous jacket, ruined, Kushina Uzumaki. Her beautiful red hair washed under her mixed with the rapidly pooling blood beginning to coagulate around them. Their newborn son, as blue eyed and blond haired as his father cried out from within his blankets, a fresh seal burned onto his naval containing his mothers greatest burden.

"Minato…" She began weakly, eyes filling with tears as they flicked between the gaping holes in their chests and their newborn son. "We can't leave him like this, the village will never see one of us a hero. He'll be alone. He'll be alone with them…" She trailed off as she started crying and Minato's eyes softened, his faith in the village wavering during his last moments at his wife's sincerity.

Without another thought he began to seal again, using his free hand to summon the contract toad as he manipulated the fresh eight trigrams seal adorning his son. "Gama, I know this is unusual but I'm signing my son's name to the contract." He used little Naruto's still squirming hand, already bloody from the course of the night to stamp the contact. "Please, ask the elder toads to look after him. Raise him to be full of joy and life. I would trust the toads with anything and now I trust them with this."

Gama nodded solemnly before returning to the Mt. Myoboku. Kushina's hand landed on his as he finished his seal work. A fresh summoning tattoo just above the eight trigrams seal. "Thank you, see you in the pure lands dear husband." The light faded from her eyes as she whispered her final words.

Minato's hands shook. Struggling to last just a few final moments as he penned out his last wishes, tucking them into his son's swaddling clothes as death came for him too. Hiruzen Sarutobi, dressed in his black combat armour with his adamantine staff at his side, accompanied by ANBU, arrived just in time to see him collapse. Just in time to meet Lord Minato Namikaze's gaze for a final time as he issued his final command. "Do not fail him Hiruzen…"

None would forget the binding oath they took in their hearts as they felt the world change that day. As the Lord Third picked up the newborn child. The end of an era perhaps, but certainly the beginning of a new one. "Naruto Uzumaki, I feel as though you're going to cause quite a stir in the village." He paused as he looked over the letter left to him. "Perhaps the whole world even."

He turned to the Anbu present. "Not a word of this to anyone. You lot saw nothing here understood?" The Anbu present salute their venerable Hokage as they all vanish into the night.

As the fires of the village subsided into ashes, the morning sun began to break through. Beams of light cascading around the unlikely pair. Hiruzen reflected on the letter his successor left to find a Shinobi he could trust even if no one else believed it.

Knocking at the door of one of his oldest and least trustworthy companions Hiruzen was unsurprised to find his old rival already in his usual robes, one arm tucked away. "Danzo. I trust you are ready for a mission?"

The fellow seasoned shinobi looks at the bundle in Hiruzen's arms. "I didn't think you'd have the strength to leave him in my care Sarutobi." He says almost offhandedly even as a glimmer of excitement enters his eyes.

"Not you old friend." Danzo's eyes hardened even as the child was transferred into his arms. "Jiraiya is out of the village, and he's too young to summon. You're the only one I trust to take him to Mt. Myoboku. Minato wanted him raised by them."

The grizzled war hawk nodded even as he squinted at his old friend. "The Toads will raise him to be strong. This is satisfactory." He hummed lightly. "Of course, he'll have to be brought back to the village, at some point. We can't be without our Jinchuriki for long, even if he is a child."

Hiruzen nodded. "Of course, once he's old enough to be reverse summoned he'll begin living here and only spending weekends on the Mountain. It's also important for him to form bonds with the Leaf, to inherit his father's will of fire."

Danzo scoffed. "Of course, Lord Hokage." He muttered somewhat crossly as he began walking past Hiruzen into the morning. "By your leave, I'll depart immediately."

Hiruzen nodded as Danzo walked past him, observing the shadows shift to provide Danzo with all the protection he needed.

"Be well, Naruto-chan…" Hiruzen whispered softly as his comrade walked into the sunlight. Hiruzen felt the light cast down through the ashen sky and prayed this would be the dawn of an era of peace.

It was not.

Sometime later, at the foot of the Toads sacred mountain, Danzo paused as the bundle in his arms drifted to sleep, the rising sound of toad songs echoing through the woods he walked.

One by one he felt his Root Shinobi falter to the Genjutsu as he came to a full stop. Feeling the toad song lull him to a sense of calm. Lesser shinobi would surely falter, but the Shinobi no Yami was no normal ninja.

It wasn't long afterward that he felt the air shift before feeling the deafening boom as Gamabunta, the Orange Boss Toad landed before him, giant blade bared. "Insolent gnat! How dare you come before our holy place, the Sages of Mt. Myoboku felt your vile chakra from miles away."

Danzo stood impassively, even as his hair reflued in the draft greeted by the boss toad, his robes dancing around him. "Lord Gamabunta. This is a fight you do not wish to engage, don't think I forgot your battle with Kyuubi just a short time ago." Gamabunta grunts and turns his head somewhat dismissively as Danzo continues."Besides. Hirzen charged me to bring young Naruto here to you. On orders of Minato Namikaze."

"So be it." The boss toad huffed before croaking loudly, prompting two aged toads to shunshin into the clearing. Seemingly a couple, the old toads examined the situation.

"Ah, so it seems the monkey sent his shadow to deliver Naruto-chan then!" Fukusaku spoke even as Shima moved to take Naruto from the man. "Minato beseech us to raise the boy, do you have terms?"

Danzo nodded as he handed off the boy. "4 years until he'll be hardy enough to summon. We'll introduce him to the village then, where he'll live and attend the academy. You are welcome to stay with him if you wish. Outside of the academy he is welcome to spend his time where he chooses, so long as he is seen in the village every day to keep appearances."

The elder toads nodded as Shima spoke. "We'll raise him up good for Minato, I'm sure Jiraiya-boy will likely be around some too. You're welcome to check in on him if you don't bring them along." She nodded at the sleeping Root shinobi.

"Noted"

And thus began Naruto's life with the Toads.

AN: Thanks for tuning in folks! I don't plan to be on any particular schedule, but I have an outline written all the way to part two, and seeing as I'm starting young it should be a fairly long ride. There will be lgbt themes in my writing so if that bothers you feel free not to read. Also, teams will likely be different, so dynamics will be shifted considerably.

If you read my other fic and were hoping for more, all lI can say is sorry. I sort of lost the plot on that one in my head and was never able to settle on how I wanted part two to play out. Maybe one day it'll get an update if the inspiration inds me again.
