That One Quidditch Game - A Drabble by BananaCarrot5
It was a bright sunny day in the middle of March, and Harry and others were trying to break the fearful aura that had permeated Hogwarts throughout Tournament. The girls were able to convince Diggory and his team to play a game today, and after Harry spilled the beans to Lavender, the whole school, and visiting guests, knew about this upcoming pickup match.
A pickup match between Hufflepuff and Gryffindor.
The last time they played against each other was almost a year and a half ago, and both teams were excited to even be able to play Quidditch again. Sadly, the Pitch was going to be closed soon to accommodate the Third Task.
Harry entered the Pitch and saw that the stands were bursting at the seams. It appeared that everyone had wanted to watch a game of Quidditch again, having not seen one from Hogwarts since last year, and, for those who had gone to the World Cup, well, the events after tainted the game for a lot of people.
Up in the commentator's booth, Lee Jordan and Susan Bones were getting ready to narrate the match, and behind them, both Professors McGonagall and Sprout looked positively ecstatic to be watching another match.
With Madam Hooch on the field, Lee and Susan called out their respective teams. The crowd in the stands went wild, cheering and chanting for both teams. The players assembled in the middle of the Pitch, and with a whistle and a thrown quaffle, the game was on.
Angelina, Alicia, and Katie danced around each other in an intricate game of "pass the potato." They were able to score several goals against Hannah, who was Hufflepuff's keeper. However, Hannah showed her worth by blocking several attempts too. Ron on Gryffindor's side was going great; he hadn't conceded any goals to the Hufflepuff chasers.
While everyone danced around each other down below, Cedric flew over to Harry. "You know, I don't know how you did it, how you set this all up, but boy, I am enjoying it."
Harry chuckled. "It wasn't really me. Angelina and Katie really wanted to play, but we had no one to play against. So, that's why they asked you. I just spread the message."
Cedric grinned. "Well, the results are amazing, Harry! Keep an eye out for the Snitch! No dementors around this time!"
Harry let out a small laugh at that. "You're on, Diggory!"
The match continued. Goals were scored, the crowd cheered loudly, and the excitement was through the roof! And suddenly, Harry saw Cedric bolt on his broom, and glancing in front of him was the Snitch! Harry flattened himself on his firebolt and went after him.
"Hufflepuff scores! Bad luck, Ron! Score is now 80-10 Gryffindor!" Susan commentated from the box.
"It looks like Potter and Diggory are chasing the Snitch!" Lee practically shouted. The crowd cheered for their respective Seeker, and it was sizing up to be a good fight. Harry was smaller and faster, but Cedic was better at manouvering his broom.
Harry had the wind slapping his face, Cedic next to him, and the Snitch flying in front of them. Harry edged forward, arm outstretched. Suddenly, the Snitch changed trajectories, and while Harry was quick to react, Cedric was quicker. Within a minute, literally a hand's difference, Cedric edged Harry out for the Snitch and the game ended.
"Hufflepuff wins! Cedric caught the Snitch! Score is 160-80 Hufflepuff!" Susan shouted, cheering with the rest of her House. Harry flew up to Cedric and chuckled. "Good game!"
Cedric nodded and smiled. "You'll get better at this, Harry! But I beat you this time!"
"Again, remember?" Harry asked. Cedric shook his head. "Nah. The Dementor one didn't count. At least for me."
Down below, everyone was hugging and congratulating one another on a game well played. Ron and Hannah were already talking about Keeper tactics, and Fred and George were pulling funny pranks on the teammates. From up in the box, Minerva paid Pomona a galleon and laughed.
When Cedric and Harry hopped off their brooms, they were surprised when Viktor walked up to them. "You two are good at this. Maybe we can fly together soon?"
Harry and Cedric smiled before nodding in approval.
The excitement of the match travelled through the halls of Hogwarts, and no matter how long it lasted for, the game had done everyone the world of good and been such fun for everyone.
