Some hours later
Jason woke Kellie up.
"Laura, wants to talk to you," Jason said, "They're in Greenland."
"How long did I sleep?" Kellie said, "You should have gotten me up earlier."
"You pulled an all-nighter" Jason said, "Unlike everyone else, your crew took shifts sleeping. Everything else was coordinating resources which Slater was able to provide quickly. The foundation had to back out given the nature of this operation possibly involves biohazardous weapons. It's out of their wheelhouse. And Taggert left with Holly and Anna."
Kellie nodded, taking her cell phone from Jason.
"Hi Laura," Kellie said, "Jason's says you've reached Greenland."
"Yes, we have," Laura said, "Robert let us know you were sending back up."
"Right, they're at your disposal," Kellie said, "Adam will be who you want to talk to over there."
"Good," Laura said, "Here's the deal, we don't know what we're walking in to other than a possible biohazard situation. In order to reduce the number of people potentially exposed, Drew, Curtis, Valentin, and I will scout the island. We'll reach out if and when we need your teams."
"Are you sure you don't want to take some of Adam's people with you," Kellie asked, "This is what they train for."
"I'm sure," Laura said, "I think anything larger will alert Victor and I want to keep the element of surprise on our side."
"Alright," Kellie said, "You've been dealing with Victor for years. I assume you know how he thinks and what will work best. When you find Spencer, tell him he should come crash at my house unannounced like he used to in California."
"I will definitely tell him that," Laurie said, before hanging up.
"We have to go," Kellie said to Jason, "back to the warehouse after you get me the fries and milkshake you owe me."
Before they left the house, Kellie made sure to see the kids.
Kelsey (3.5 years old) was fighting sleep in bed but shot up when Kellie entered.
"Mommy," Kelsey said, "I missed you."
"I missed you too, Kelsey Girl," Kellie said, sitting on edge of the bed.
"Where have you been?" Kelsey asked, "Jared said you were napping."
"I was," Kellie said, "And then I've been trying to find our cousin, Spencer."
"Did he get lost?" Kelsey asked.
"Something like that," Kellie said.
"Can't the police find him?" Kelsey asked.
"They might," Kellie said, "Sometimes I help the cops with their cases. Like a special investigator. Sometimes that means I keep really weird hours or sleep at odds time of day."
"Are you good at investigatoring?" Kelsey asked, yawning.
"Your mommy is great at it," Jason said from the door.
Kellie kissed Kelsey's forehead, "I love you and sweet dreams."
"Love you mommy, daddy," Kelsey mumbled drifting off to sleep.
Outside in the hallway, Kellie found Alyssa (11 years old) waiting.
"Did you find Spencer yet?" Alyssa asked.
"No yet," Kellie replied, hugging her, "But we're getting closer."
"How close?" Alyssa said.
"We think we know where he is and his Grandma Laura and Uncle Drew are about to check it out," Kellie said.
"His Uncle Victor is going to prison right," Alyssa said, "that's if he survives."
"Most likely he will go to prison," Kellie said, "And Alyssa, we've discussed this…."
"I shouldn't wish death on our enemies," Alyssa said, rolling her eyes, "But this is Spencer's enemy even if he is his uncle."
"Still," Kellie replied, then changed the subject, "Is your homework done?"
"Yes," Alyssa said, exasperated, "Uncle Franny checked it. I'm going to paint my nails. I want to go shopping for new nail color this weekend and maybe some lipstick."
"Yes, to the nail polish," Kellie said, "No to the lipstick."
"Mom," Alyssa whined, "I'll be in middle school next year."
Kellie gave Alyssa a look, "This isn't the time. I need to get back to the studio to check on the search for Spencer."
"Right. Bring him home," Alyssa said, "And we should have him over for dinner. Just him, not his snake ex-girlfriend if she's still trying to hang on to him. Although if he and Trina finally decided to actually date for real, he could bring her over."
"It will just be Spencer," Kellie said, "And what do you mean date her for real. I thought they were kind of seeing each other."
"Yes, but it started out as a ruse to try to expose Ex-me," Alyssa said, "But they've had feelings for each other ever since they met, so I figure its only matter of time before they make it officially real if they haven't already."
"How do you know this?" Kellie asked, "You know what never mind. Now I'm thinking you should be getting ready for bed."
Alyssa groaned, but stomped off to do so. Then she turned out around and looked back at Kellie.
"Remember to invite Spencer over for dinner when you find him," Alyssa said, "We obviously need to find reasons to keep him away from the more insane Cassadines. And I know about Spencer and Trina because I overheard them discussing it. Well some of it and I made him tell me the plan. I told them to call you if it got sticky."
Alyssa stomped off.
"Next time you find out your cousin has a plan like that, maybe you should fill me in," Kellie said as Alyssa ignored her.
Kellie found Jamie and Jared (13 years old) playing a video game downstairs.
"Save the game," Kellie said, "Get ready for bed and you can read for a half hour if you want to stay up any later."
"Come on, Mom," Jamie pleaded.
"I'm losing anyway," Jared said, saving the game.
"Can I come help you look for Spencer?" Jamie asked.
"it's a school night," Kellie said, "So no."
Jamie started to protest when Jared replied, "We can use our reading time to try to research and investigate on the internet. Try to come up with something ourselves. I'll start researching legal cases to keep Spencer's uncle from weaseling his way out of prison."
"Let's go," Jamie said as he and Jared took off.
"I want you two to read something fun," Kellie yelled after them.
Once Jamie and Jared made it out of Kellie and everyone else's sight and Jamie pulled Jared towards the kitchen.
"If I'm going to help Mom and prove I'm ready to," Jamie said, quietly, "Now's my shot. I need you to pretend to be me getting ready for bed and stuff pillows in my bed to make it look like I've gone to sleep."
"Jamie, I don't know," Jared said, "Mom caught on to us pretending to be each other years ago and I doubt she or Jason will be happy with you inviting yourself along."
"Just please, Jared," Jamie said, "I can't do anything from a computer or tablet since the legal stuff bores me and I need more info than Mom will tell us."
"But then I lose my reading time," Jared said.
"Like you don't read with the lights out," Jamie replied.
Jamie and Jared heard Kellie and Jason getting their jackets.
"I have to go," Jamie said, darting towards the garage, "I'll owe you."
Jared looked resigned and annoyed as Jamie disappeared than went upstairs to do as Jamie asked, shaking his head.
Once in the garage, Jamie got in the back of the suv and pulled the cargo cover over him so he couldn't be seen.
He stayed quiet as Kellie, Jason, and Johnny got in the vehicle and drove away.
They made it several blocks down the road when Kellie got a text message.
"Johnny, stop the car," Kellie said.
Johnny pulled over.
"What's going on?" Jason asked.
"Not everyone's wearing their seatbelt," Kellie replied and then raised her voice slightly, "Jamison Zachary Scott"
"Aww man," Jamie said as Kellie and Jason both got out of the car.
Jason followed Kellie to the back of the car where Kellie opened the back of the SUV and closed the cargo cover to find Jamie.
"I just want to help Mom," Jamie said, "Do all the cool spy stuff like you do."
"I appreciate that you want to help, Jamie," Kellie said, "The whole being a spy thing isn't as glamorous as you think. This is not for kids."
"But Mom, I'm a teenager now," Jamie said, "I want to learn to investigate and fight bad guys."
"And someday I'm sure you will do that when you're older," Kellie said, "But this is really dangerous stuff and I need to devote my attention to making sure Spencer and everyone else gets home safely. I can't do that if I'm worrying about you and your siblings."
"But I promise to be good and stay out of the way," Jamie said.
"I'm your mom. I will still worry," Kellie said, "But I'll worry less if you're at home helping keep a look out for your sisters with Jared. Now, get in the car."
"Jason," Jamie pleaded to Jason.
"I'm with your mom on this one," Jason said, "It's a really important job to make sure Alyssa and Kelsey are safe. It's not one we can trust to just anyone."
"Fine," Jamie grudgingly and moving to get in the backseat.
Once they were all in the car and headed back to the house, Jamie asked, "Can you at least tell me how you figured it out?"
"Francis tried to wake you up because he thought you weren't feeling well when you fell right to sleep instead of trying to stay up later and you were acting very strangely getting ready for bed," Kellie said, "I'm assuming you got Jared to pretend to be you and stuff your bed with pillows."
"I'm exercising my right to remain silent," Jamie said.
"You are free to do that," Kellie said as Johnny pulled into the driveway where Francis was waiting.
Kellie got out of the car with Jamie.
"I'm sure capable of walking the ten feet to Francis by myself," Jamie said.
"Jamison, I just need to have a word with Francis," Kellie said.
Jamie rolled his eyes.
"Nice try, kiddo," Francis said as Kellie and Jamie approached.
"Whatever," Jamie said.
"So, no video games this weekend for you," Kellie said.
"Mom," Jared protested, "I just wanted to come help and you caught me anyway."
"You still weren't supposed to sneak out," Kellie said, "If you want to complain, I can certainly take away video games the next several days of school through the weekend."
Jamie huffed and stomped his way back into the house.
"I'm glad that was all this is," Francis said.
"Same," Kellie said.
"Jared confessed to his part in tonight's shenanigans," Francis said.
"Apply the no video games to him too," Kellie said.
"I figured," Francis said, "I better get inside and make sure he stays inside."
"Thank you," Kellie said, heading back to the car.
Jason wrapped his arm around Kellie when she got in the back seat next to him. Kellie leaned her head against him.
"Are you okay?" Jason asked.
"Yeah, I just can't believe how fast they're growing up," Kellie said, "Alyssa wanting to wear make-up and now Jamie sneaking out of the house with Jared's help. I know Jamie just wants to help. I kind of hate taking the video games away this weekend."
"But he can't be going out of the house on his own," Jason said, "It's too dangerous and you don't want to chance any of the kids being exposed to the virus if it does get out."
"No, we can't," Kellie said, "which means we're not sending them to school tomorrow either if we can't get this resolved by then."
"I'll talk to Francis once we get back to the warehouse," Jason said, "I'm sure the kids will be thrilled to have the day off school."
"I'm sure," Kellie said, 'Johnny, don't forget we have to pick up my dinner on the way."
"Lorenzo and Sam are picking it up for you and whatever anyone else wants," Jason said, "Once we had to take Jamie back, I made arrangements to have a late dinner brought over for everyone."
"So we can just go straight to the warehouse then," Kellie said, "Have I ever told you that you do have some good ideas sometimes?"
"Just sometimes?" Jason replied.
"Sometimes, Mob Boy," Kellie said, kissing Jason, "If we didn't have world-saving things to do, I'd show you just how much I appreciate those good ideas."
