Author's Note: Realized while getting this chapter ready to post for this weekend. It's fairly short, so I'm posting a little early and will post Chapter 7 sometime this weekend as well. Happy Reading!
Warehouse Next Door to the Self-Defense Studio
Kellie walked into the warehouse, asking, "Where are we at?"
"We lost contact with Laura and her team," Sam said.
"I pinged the satellite phone to try and track it," Spinelli said, "but it hasn't moved."
"Either they lost it," Kellie said, "Or at one of them has been captured or they're holed up somewhere and can't talk."
Lorenzo who had been on the phone joined the group.
"The WSB knows about the weapons," Lorenzo said, "I just got off the phone with Felicia Scorpio. When Frisco refused to automatically blow up the island, the board voted him out as director and voted someone in that did give the order."
"No," Kellie said, "Spinelli, have Adam get us video feed of the situation on their end as well as a status report."
"On it," Spinelli said.
Jason came up behind Kellie and put his hand on her shoulder.
Adam came up on the screen.
"The WSB is sending in bombers to blow up that island," Kellie said, "I need a status update asap."
"We've been holding per instructions," Adam said, "Holly, Anna, and Taggert got here. Although they've headed to the island."
"We lost contact with Laura and her team," Kellie said.
"So did we," Adam said.
"I know Laura wanted you to hold back," Kellie said, "But I want you to move in and assess the situation. Rescue any one off that island you can."
"We were planning on that," Adam said, "I'll report back as soon as we have an update."
"If you see the bombers," Kellie said, "Get you and anyone you've currently got the hell out of there."
Adam disconnected and the other video feeds came on the screen, allowing them to see some of what they could. They watched the crews make their way closer to the island before they lost the signal.
Everyone groaned.
"Spinelli, see if you can get us access to say like air force, navy channels and the PCPD scanners," Kellie said.
Spinelli nodded and went furiously to work.
In the meantime, Lorenzo was comforting Sam.
"Drew is going to make it, he has to," Lorenzo said to Sam.
"I hope you're right, Dad," Sam said, "He went off on this mission to get Liesl before we knew about the super virus or whatever it is Victor has. I'm worried that Victor might try to trigger the brainwashing."
"Why don't you and I get out of here for a bit," Lorenzo suggested.
Sam fought tears.
Kellie having overheard walked over, "Go, we're all just going to be waiting at this point anyway. I will call you as soon as I hear something."
Kellie and Sam hugged before Sam started to head out of the warehouse. Lorenzo turned his attention to Kellie before following Sam.
"I'm coming with you," Kristina yelled following after Sam.
"You've done everything you can however this turns out," Lorenzo said, "Don't doubt that for a second."
"It's not over yet, Uncle Lo, but," Kellie said, unconvincingly, but racking her brain for other ideas.
Lorenzo hugged Kellie and then left.
"I've got the PCPD scanners," Spinelli said, as they heard routine calls coming through, "Nothing yet."
"They're using another channel," Kellie said, as her phone dinged. She read the messaged and forwarded it to Spinelli.
"Looks someone at NCIS pulled some strings," Kellie said, "Looks like we might have access to what Director Vance is monitoring in MTAC. Thank you, Special Agent McGee."
With a few clicks, they were watching satellite imagery, video, with chatter between the bomber pilots thrown in.
Nothing in the chatter was currently relevant.
"Milo, see if we can reach Laura or someone," Kellie said, "Try anyone's phone number. Anna and Holly's too. I'll try Taggert's."
Kellie tried to call Taggert.
"No answer," Kellie said.
"Same here," Milo said.
"I still can't raise Adam again," Spinelli said.
Kellie turned to watch the screens obviously frustrated.
"Come on," Jason said, "You don't need to watch this. Johnny, Milo, if you see something that needs our attention, we'll be in the office."
"I need to stay," Kellie said.
"There's nothing any of us can do right now," Jason said, gently guiding Kellie away, "If we can't stop this and the worst happens. I don't want you to live that with image in your mind."
"Jason, there has to be something else I can do," Kellie said, "I just can't think of it. I'd call Dante or Commissioner Ashford, but I don't think I want the WSB knowing how close we're nosing around. I'm wary of them on a good day."
"I think that's wise given that just they ousted Frisco," Jason said.
