Once they got to Kellie's office, Jason shut the door and Kellie collapsed against Jason, tears falling.
"I failed, Jason," Kellie said, "I failed Spencer, Michael and Willow, Taggert and his daughter, and everyone else on that island right now. There should be something more I can do, I can't come up with it."
"You haven't failed anybody," Jason said, tilting Kellie's face to look at him, "You've fought with everything you have to save everyone, every tool you had at your disposal, every favor you've called in."
"I know why the WSB has to do what they're doing," Kellie said, "We still have to worry about Victor using his stupid virus too. I just hoped we'd pull it off."
"We still could," Jason said, "Slater's people are out there even if we can't contact then right now. Holly and Anna and Taggert, Laura, Drew, Curtis, Valentin. They are all capable of getting the upper hand on Victor Cassadine. You said it yourself Trina and Obrecht will give Victor a run for his money, fight him every step of the way. It's not over yet."
"I really want to believe that," Kellie said.
"I know how it looks," Jason said.
"I should have done better by Spencer," Kellie said, "Made him feel more welcome, reached out to him more, never mind the Cassadines might not have appreciated it. Maybe he would have been less prone to being anywhere near Victor."
"Hey, Spencer made his own choices," Jason said, "He knows your home has always been open to him."
"I actually don't know if he knew that," Kellie said, "Not since I moved back to Port Charles. When I lived in California, he'd just randomly show up. He didn't really do that here in Port Charles. It didn't really occur to me the difference until now."
"Because he had Spoon Island and Laura's to crash at," Jason said, "So we make sure he knows he has a standing invitation to dinner as Alyssa suggested or like you told Laura he can come crash at the house for a weekend."
"You wouldn't mind," Kellie asked
"No," Jason said, "He's your cousin and important to you. Losing his mom when he was born and the way Nikolas has abandoned him twice now, he could always use more family in his corner, a few of the Cassasdines excluded."
"I'm just mad at myself for not recognizing what Spencer may have been going through," Kellie said, "The whole reason I let him crash unexpectedly in California was because I knew he's a lonely rich kid and that he doesn't quite know where he fits in. I keep thinking what would Charles have done with Spencer. He was always so good at figuring out what kids needed, how to talk to them."
"Exactly what you've been doing," Jason said, "When he gets back, you'll make sure he knows that his arrangements with you in California apply here."
"What do you mean exactly what I've been doing," Kellie asked.
"I've seen you with Spencer, specifically when you came back to Port Charles comes to mind," Jason said, "When you saw Spencer and Alyssa about to try double team Sonny into having someone swim with the fishes as Alyssa put it. You were in there, telling them how it was going to be exactly same way Charles would have. Calm and almost didn't bat an eye."
"Charles was way more unflappable than I've ever been," Kellie said, "Alyssa's timing about make up today and that she knew about Spencer's hair-brained scheme regarding Esme. Then Jamie stowing away in the car tonight."
"You still held it together," Jason said as they were interrupted by a knock on the door.
"Come in," Jason said.
Lulu opened the door.
"Dante said you were down here," Lulu said, entering the office, "Certain you're staging some big behind the scenes rescue. Did you know it's snowing outside?"
"I don't know if we can really call it a rescue at this point," Kellie said, "What do you mean it's snowing?"
Kellie looked at Jason, "That can't be a coincidence."
"I'll take a look and make some calls," Jason said, "But I have a feeling you're right. The snow is connected to Victor's plans."
"What do you mean it's not a rescue mission?" Lulu asked, as Jason walked outside the office, "What's happened? Is my mom okay? Is Spencer?"
"I don't know," Kellie said, "I don't know how much you know but the WSB is on a mission to bomb the island to prevent Victor from releasing some kind of super virus. No one's signal is working. I can't get ahold of any one."
"Is there anything else you can do, someone at the WSB you can contact or another agency?" Lulu said.
"Frisco Jones, our best connection to the WSB was removed as director when he refused to order the strike," Kellie said, "WSB is going to get jurisdiction over any other agency at this point."
"So what, we sit around and wait," Lulu said, "I'll call Alexis and we'll run a story."
"And cause mass panic," Kellie said, "over the news that a doomsday virus is about to be unleashed."
"That would be the downside," Lulu said, "or the masses demand the strike continue."
"Exactly," Kellie said.
"I can't lose my mom or Spencer," Lulu said, "Charlotte can't lose her father."
"Lulu, I wish could assure you everything's going to be fine," Kellie said, "But everything relies on your mom and her people and my people out there being able to tell us there is no threat before the strike occurs."
"I keep asking myself how I missed that Victor was getting his greasy claws into Spencer," Lulu said.
"I've been asking myself the same," Kellie said, "But I also know if I try to tell Spencer what he doesn't want to hear, he's just going to well."
Do what Spencer does," Lulu said, "Believe me, I know. My mom knows. He's a handful."
Kellie just shook her head.
"What?" Lulu said.
"Handful has been to known to be used to describe me," Kellie said, "Even back when I was younger than Spencer."
"But your situation was totally different from Spencer's" Lulu said, "You were a kid just trying to survive the foster system and then get away from a stalker/rapist for years. I don't think you can compare the two."
"The lack of parents growing up is something we both have in common," Kellie said, "I know Spencer had Nikolas for part of his childhood. But when Nikolas faked his death, he abandoned Spencer. No matter how you look at it. Now Nikolas has abandoned Spencer and Ace."
"I guess you're right, my mom was in a coma most of my childhood," Lulu said, "My dad was gallivanting off god knows where most of the time. It does something to you."
"Yeah, it does," Kellie said, "I sometimes forget behind Spencer's entitled over the top dramatics is a kid trying to figure out his place in the world."
