Kelly woke up back in her barracks. Everyone else was fast asleep after last night's events. They sure could use it. Yaz and Wip weren't with them, they were deployed to New York. The Marine got out of her covers and went into the kitchen to start making some coffee, she decided against turning on the tv as she did not want to wake her squadmates up.
" Making coffee?" Makoa asked yawning taking a seat on the Kitchen table, well one was up now shame it had to be the most annoying one.
" Yes, want some Koa." She asked.
" I'm good, I don't like coffee much."He responded. Once the coffee was done she poured it into her cup. When warm liqoud hit her lips she smiled in glee as the caffeine woke her up.
" Making coffee I see Kells." Ashley said yawning.
" Yep" She simply responded.
" Got any for me?" She walked up rubbing her eyes.
" No you can make is yourself." Kelly told her.
" Aww." She pouted. She then mischievously turned to Makoa.
The marine gave her a weird look. " Why are you looking at me like that?" He asked.
" Can you please make me some coffee." She said grabbing his arm and giving him puppy eyes.
" You seriously ca— Pleeeease" She whined Makoa rolled his eyes. " Fine" He murmured getting up from his seat.
" Thank you so much Koa." She told him.
" Yeah yeah yeah." He responded starting up the coffee maker.
" Anyways while I am making coffee can you turn on the tv at least." He told her.
Ashley stuck her tongue out at him, but turned it on for him. " And she said I was childish" Makoa thought to himself.
On screen was Elizabeth Warren. " Hey look their is your girlfriend." Ashley teased. Making him roll his eyes.
" Elizabeth Warren here as you can see behind me the UN building is still locked down..." The reporter was going over the events of the last two attacks.
" Huh I guess the media is still reporting on the attacks." Makoa said handing Ashley her coffee.
" Surprised she still there after getting shot at." Ashley responded simping on it.
" Do you have more sugar?" Ashley asked.
Makoa shrugged " We are all out sadly." He responded making her pout.
" A UNSC spokesman has confirmed said there was a total of 56 attacks on UNSC bases and facilities." Kelly said.
" But thanks to the UNSC's finest the innies got pushed back." Makoa smiled proudly
" Makoa can you shut the fuck up I am trying to sleep." Manny groaned.
" Boy it is almost 8 o,clock wake your ass up!!" He shouted back waking everyone else much to their dismay
" Koa mate, why do you have to be so loud." Chips complained.
" Blame Manny's duma– ahh!!" The marine screamed when Sara threw her pillow at his face fuming with anger.
" Kurva!! [Bitch!!]" She cursed in her native tongue quickly shutting Makoa up.
" Well now that we are all up might as well get some breakfast." Kelly sighed.
" That sounds like a good idea I am starving." Makoa said.
" For once in your life can you stop thinking about food." Manny got mad at him while making his bed.
" Hey this is why you love me." Makoa responded.
" No it really fucking isn't" he said back
Koa tossed Sara her pillow who was still very much pissed off at him.
Once all their beds were made they finally left their barracks to head to the cafeteria.
" Hey do guys know if they canceled the ball dance?" Makoa asked them.
Kelly turned to him. " No it is still happening in two days." She answered.
Makoa smiled " Well it is a good thing we got back then." He said. The group kept on walking down the hall
" Makoa you don't even have a date." Manny scoffed.
" Oh you are one to talk, I don't see you with one." Makoa shot back.
" Bah bah bah bah bah!!" He responded.
" See, your dumbass response proves my— Makoa you should just ask someone out you know." Ashley interuppted.
" Ah ah I don't know who to ask out." Makoa stuttered.
" How about you go ask out Halsey since you are always talking about her." Manny remarked making Makoa stare at him.
" How about you go ahead and ask out Dr. Watson then I will think about it." Makoa shot back.
" Makoa shut your fucking mouth." Manny hissed.
" Hey you are the one that started this, plus I am pretty sure you don't need a date as well can you just go with a group of friends." Makoa said.
The Marine was right in that regard even though typically you tend to ask someone out for the dance instead of friends. " Yeah but what is the fun in that?" Ashley told them.
" Funny how you say that Ash, who is your date exactly?" Manny asked.
Ashley smiled warmly. " I have someone in mind." She responded.
Before she could continue Makoa rushed forward " Yes they are making pancakes!!" He shouted sprinting to the cafeteria line. Making his squadmates shake their heads in dismay at Makoa's antics. The rest of them got in line picked out their meals and headed to their usual spot. At the table Rigo, Jesus, and Carlos were once again gambling with Frankie as the dealer. Christian was stuffing his face. But Kelly noticed that Pards, Raj, and Daniel were gone. " Hey where are the other three?" She asked.
" They got transferred out." Jesus answered her
The Marines sat down and started digging in. " Gambling as usual I see." Makoa commented.
" Shut the fuck up I have everything on this play." Jesus screamed at him.
" I agree with Jesus shut up up Makoa" Rigo added making him roll his eyes
" Ok Jezz" Makoa responded, turning to Christian.
" Give me a moment Makoa I will dab you up after this game." Carlos said throwing down some credits.
" How long they been playing for?" he asked Christian.
" They been playing for 30 mmernutes" He said with his mouth full.
Kelly rolled her eyes at him " Have you guys been taught proper manners, stop speaking with your mouth full." She scolded.
" Swerry." Christian responded pancakes still in his mouth. Kelly just shook her head. Why does she even try?
" Hey do any of you guys know where Pards, Raj, and Daniel are?" Ashley asked.
" Oh, they got transferred to another unit, something about having combat-experienced Marines to help train the replacements." Frankie said flipping a card.
" Well, that sucks I always liked those three." Ashley responded taking a bite of her pancake.
" All right reveal your cards." Frankie said. Jesus was the first to show him a pair of queens not bad. Carlos was next his cards were a pair of 10s. The final one was Rigo who had an evil smirk on his face. He revealed his cards showing a full house. Jesus and Carlos's faces stared in horror as they lost all their credits.
" Give me the money!!" He gloated collecting all the credits with a stupid smile on his face.
" That's it I am fucking done" Jesus stormed off from the table making Rigo evilly laugh. Carlos just shook his head in dismay as he watched the other marine steal his credits.
" And there goes Jesus again." Makoa joked making Christian laugh.
" Having a lucky day Rigo?" Manny asked. He looked up at him and smiled " You bet your bippy I did." He said counting his money. Whatever the fuck that means
" It will be a shame someone ruins it for you." Manny said sitting right next to him.
" Is that a challenge?" Rigo asked. Manny looked at Frankie
" How much for a buy-in?" Manny asked
" 20 credits." Frankie answered.
" This should be interesting." Carlos commented sitting right next to him Ashley nodded in agreement.
" I swear to god if Shepard catches you." Kelly warned them.
" She won't that is why you will be keeping a lookout." Manny told her making her scoff. She crossed her arms under her bust and shook her head.
" Hey Makoa, help me ruin Rigo's day." Manny told him.
The Marine's brother turned to him " You know I don't gamble right." He responded.
" Manny, don't rope him into this." Kelly responded.
"Come on Kelly he is a grown man not a baby he can make his own decisions." Rigo told her in his annoying voice.
" Hey I am his marine mom, this idiot would be dead without me." Kelly responded. Rigo gave her a confused weird face, making her roll her eyes. " Not in that way you pervert" she hissed.
" That is just a weird way of wording it though, just saying." He responded
" Hey I was going to say no, but out of spite you can count me in as well Frankie." Makoa smirked finishing his food fatass.
" You are going to regret it." Kelly told him. Makoa luaghed " Hey the worse that could happen is that I lose some money." He responded making her shake her head.
" This is going to go well." Ashley said.
" This should be good" Carlos responded.
Makoa was dealt in and the first round of poker was started.
Manny immediately folded. " So Makoa?" Rigo asked.
"What's up bro?" He responded betting some credits.
" You ask someone out for the dance?" He questioned. Making him scoff
" Come on Rigo, you know me I suck talking to women." He responded making him roll his eyes. The marine betted some more credits while Frankie flipped the first card making Makoa raise.
" Bro come on the worse they can say is no." He responded.
" Come on Rigo, some women are just mean though."
" Pussy." Manny insulted him.
" Hey you are one to talk , I do not see you with a date Manny." Makoa shot back angering him
" Shut up." He responded.
" Normally I disagree with Makoa but he got a point Manny." Rigo said.
" Fuck you both." He hissed.
Carlos chuckled " Manny why don't you just ask out Amelia we all know you like her." He said making Manny blush.
" I don't know what you are talking about." He responded.
Makoa rolled his eyes. " Don't play dumb we all know you like her bro." He told him
" Yeah dude just ask her." Rigo added.
" It is not that simple." Manny hissed.
" And you call me a pussy." Makoa sarcastically said.
" To be fair why can't both of you just ask a girl out." Ashley joined in.
" It will be nice to see for once." Kelly agreed.
" All right enough about me, what about you Rigo did you ask someone out?" Makoa questioned.
"I did." He answered shocking everyone.
" Did she say yes?" Makoa asked.
" She did." Rigo smiled smugly with glee no wonder he was in such a good mood.
" Good for you who is it?" Makoa asked dabbing him up.
" It is Chris Tanaka." Rigo answered him
" One of the officers sheeeeeeeeeesh nice." Makoa complimented.
" Thanks now in turn can you please go ask someone out." He told him.
" We will get there when we get there" He responded.
" What does that even fucking mean?" Rigo asked confused only for Frankie to interrupt.
" If you guys are done can you place in your final bets." He said.
" I will check." Makoa said.
" Same here." Rigo added.
Frankie flipped the last card. Makoa revealed a pair of kings and queens. While sadly for Rigo only had a pair of 7 and 2s.
Makoa celebrated in glee when he took the credits.
Frankie started the next round, no one decided to fold this time. Everyone started betting like crazy with no sign of letting up. " So Makoa I did not forget the conversation we had yesterday." Rigo said.
" Which one?" Makoa asked.
" About how you are not making those stupid jokes about Halsey for the pass few days" Rigo interrogated him.
" Oh yeah, I totally forgot about that." Carlos added.
" Yeah bro why is it are you not making those kind of jokes." Christian joined in broken English as usual.
" Can you please get better at grammar." Frankie said
" I am honestly curious too." He joined as well. Makoa nervously touched the back of his neck not sure what to say.
" I don't know guys after helping her it kind of felt wrong to do so." Makoa answered.
" Explain" Rigo questioned.
" I don't know how to say it bro it just feels wrong, Me and her got to know each other when I was helping her." Makoa said.
" What did you guys talk about?" Manny asked getting interested.
" We talked about where we grew up why I joined the Marine corps, why she became a scientist, which man she is smart I will tell you that." Makoa complimented.
" Not only that she is just easy to talk to, especially with those beautiful eyes of hers,." He said spacing out now getting the attention of everyone at the table including Chips and Sara who stayed silent the entire time. " She may seem rough around the edges but she is charming and likable." He added.
" Especially with that beautiful bob cut and that grey hair too." Makoa smiled. Rigo looked at Manny to see if he was hearing this right, and he was shocked. " Especially the feeling of her warm and soft hands." he finished Rigo had heard enough. " Oh my fucking god." He said.
Makoa rolled his eyes " What is it now." he said annoyed.
" You like Doctor Halsey!!" Rigo accused him making his eyes go wide.
" What oh come on don't be ridiculous." He responded turning red.
" Yeah mate definitely." Chips laughed, with Sara chuckling as well.
" You guys can't be serious." He tried arguing.
" Oh Makoa don't try to hide it you are more red than fucking Dani right now so don't even try." Rigo responded.
" Can we just play some Poker?" He said making everyone laugh.
" Sure, but we are not letting this go." Rigo snarked.
They kept on playing until the time came to reveal their cards Makoa smiled again winning with three of a kind, much to the dissatisfaction of Rigo who busted out.
" Well, it seems like I am on a roll today." Makoa gloated making Manny roll his eyes.
" How about we make it more interesting." Rigo challenged.
" Oh and what's that?" Makoa asked.
" I will put two thousand credits right here on the line." He said.
" I am sensing a but." Makoa said.
Rigo smiled " I was just getting to that, I will put two thousand credits on the line, you don't even have to as well, but if I win this game Manny has to go ask out Amelia Watson, and you need to ask out Dr. Halsey." He stated his offer.
Makoa and Manny pondered for a moment thinking if they should accept the offer. " Also both of you need to play no exceptions." He added.
" If one of us wins do we get the credits?" Manny asked.
" Yes." He answered.
Manny turned to Makoa. " I say let's do it two against one." He told him.
Makoa thought about it and nodded. " Fuck it I am on a winning streak so why not." He answered.
Rigo then buyed in and Frankie passed them their cards.
" This should be fun" Ashley said with Carlos nodding in agreement. Makoa eagerly grabbed his cards and smiled upon seeing them
Frankie passed their cards and the betting began. Rigo opted to check while Manny and Makoa kept on raising each other. Frankie flipped the cards. It was getting intense. Near the end, all three of them went all in, and the time went to reveal their cards. Makoa was first to go and to everyone's surprise, he had a full house. Manny was the second and everybody was astonished to see he had a full house.
" Well looks like we win Rigo." Makoa gloated. However the other Marine evilly smiled and set down his cards nobody could believe it and to the horror of Manny and Makoa, Rigo revealed a Royal Flush. He started manically laughing. " Give me the credits boys, looks like you two need to go ask out your dates" he laughed. The two Marines were stunned they could not believe they lost that.
" Rigo please don't make me do this." He begged.
" Nope, we made a deal." Rigo said not budging.
" Rigo but... Kelly help me out here." Makoa asked as she shook her head.
" Don't ask me for help you got yourself into this mess, I for one think it is a good thing." She said.
" Oh come on, Ashley?" He asked the other female marine.
She shook her head.
" Carlos, Christian, Frankie." Makoa pleaded but they all shook their head no. Frankie grabbed the rest of his cards and cleaned the table
" Sucks to to suck Makoa." Rigo smiled.
" Makoa let's just get this over with" Manny sighed.
" Oh don't tell me you are going through with this?" Makoa questioned.
" Just take the L Lakoa we lost, so now we must pay the price." He told him.
" Oh fuck off you are the one that convinced me to do this." He whined.
" Since you are both here let's go get it over with." Rigo said.
" Right now?" Makoa asked, his face turning white.
" Uh yeah." Rigo answered him.
Makoa's face went bloodshot red " Well I have a better idea." He said
" And that is?" Rigo asked.
" This." Before he knew it Makoa jumped out of his seat and sprinted to the exit. Carlos got up to try and stop him but he ducked under avoiding his grasp Makoa evilly laughed as he made is way to the door. As luck will find it the sliding doors opened to reveal Kat without her armor in a UNSC tank top and cargo pants.
" Kat grab Makoa!!" Carlos yelled. With quick reflexes the Spartan grabbed the Marine into a tight hold preventing his escape the rest of the Marines caught up with him.
" Mind telling me what is going on?" She asked them with Makoa trying to break free from her grasp.
" Koa lost a bet, now he has to go ask out Halsey." Carlos answered.
Kat smirked " Oh does he now." She said looking down on him.
" Kat I am begging you please let me go." He pleaded trying to break free.
" Sorry a deal is a deal, and just my luck I know where her office is at." She said.
" Well lead the way." Rigo responded.
" Follow me." She said back. They left the cafeteria with a struggling Makoa in tow
The group made it to Halseys office just outside the door.
Kat set Makoa down but everyone positioned themselves to block his escape.
" Guys please don— quit being a bitch and go ask her." Carlos pushed him forward. Makoa looked at the door and back to his friends.
" Well we do not have all day." Rigo said. Makoa took a big gulp and opened the door he looked back at his friends with Ashley giving him a thumbs up as a way to motivate him. This is going to go so badly he thought to himself. He entered the room surprising Halsey
" Makoa I did not send for you." She said finishing up some paperwork.
" Yeah, I uhm.. I came here to ask you something." He nervously said.
" What is it?" She asked now having her attention.
" Well, I was wondering... I was wondering if you would." Godamn it Makoa just say it
" She gave him a weird look " Wondering?" She questioned.
" I was wondering uhm uh.." He kept on stuttering .
" Come on Makoa spit it out I don't got all day." She joked. Makoa took a deep breath and closed his eyes. " Will you go to the Ballroom dance with me." He said, his heart was beating like crazy. He slowly opened his eyes to reveal a very shocked Halsey.
Makoas heart sank in despair " I see that you are uninterested. I am sorry to bother you." He said making his way to the door.
" Yes." She said. Makoa turned around with his eyes widened. " Did I hear that right? Y-y-yes." He muttered.
" Yes I will got to the Ballroom dance with you." She said. Upon hearing those words Makoa's heart must of skipped a thousand times, his stomach felt like they had butterflies in them. " Anything else?" Halsey asked breaking him out of his trance.
" Uhm no, Doctor Halsey that is all." He stuttered making her smile.
" I will see you at the dance then." With a warm smile still plastered on her face.
" I will see you then." Makoa responded.
" Good." She said. Makoa then made his way to the door but stopped and turned back around. " Uhm Halsey." Makoa called her
" Hmm" She looked up at him.
" Thank you for saying yes." He said making her smile.
" I will see you at the dance Koa." She said.
" I will see you." Makoa responded smiling brightly. The marine exited out of the office to meet back up with his friends who were down the hall. When they took notice of him. Carlos was the first one to speak up " So how did it go?" He asked.
Makoa just stood their shocked out of his mind.
" She said yes." Makoa answered.
" No mames!! Carlos yelled
Everyone erupted into cheers and congratulations
