Infernape injuries were to be monitored but he was permitted to do the tactical exam. The group had some concerns but decided to ignore them. The reason being is because Infernape's strategic mind was being tested, not his strength. Because everyone else had gone, he had to go on his own. That meant that there was no backup, no support. Infernape had to figure all of this on his own.
Beedrill rubbed his stingers together and began to mess with the console that controlled the nanobots. Lopunny jumped over to console,
"Alright, let's give him something fun." She grinned as her finger hovered over a button.
"And you just decapitated him. What the fuck is wrong with you?" said Beedrill towards Lopunny. The ice type backed away,
"Come on, how was I supposed to know?" She argued. Beedrill took control of the console,
"That doesn't matter. Let's give Infernape a fucking challenge!" He declared, pressing dozens of buttons like an octopus having a stroke.
As Infernape descended into the testing chamber, he looked back up the elevator shaft, knowing that Blastoise would be watching. He recalled the water type's advice from earlier. This was new to him. Book smarts don't translate to tactical knowledge. It's easier to learn about something in a textbook or through an instructional video than it is to go out into the field and actually do it. This was the ultimate test of that. His success or failure here would decide his ability to be a leader, and, by proxy, his ability to protect his newfound future. Even if he didn't want to become a Senshi, he was going to fight the Midnight Brotherhood. They had endangered his family, and that wouldn't stand.
But this test…it was more than just a test of his mind, but of his very soul. Who was Son Lieyanhou? For eight years, he was a barely functioning husk of a man. So much so that, looking back at that eight year period, he didn't even recognize himself. It was like the name Son Lieyanhou had been buried, lost in the sands of time. This exam, whether he passed or failed, would definitively answer one question. After being framed for murder, after spending eight years in a hell he wouldn't wish upon the devil himself, what kind of man was Son Lieyanhou?
A cityscape formed below him. He dropped onto the ground and landed on the streets as buildings rose from the ground. It was as dark as the countryside at midnight. Beedrill's voice screamed from the intercom,
"Electricity is out. It may or may not be a terrorist attack. Go to the power station and figure out what's up."
Infernape nodded and he started to run through the city, looking around for the power plant. He turned a corner smacked into something. He fell back and saw that he impacted a robot. Infernape assumed that it was meant to be a civilian as he stood up. His jaw dropped as he saw hundreds of these robots trying to make sense of the situation.
Infernape ran towards the power station, bumping into more civilians on the way. Once he arrived. He opened the door and saw that it was somehow darker there than it was outside. He snapped his fingers and fire burst from his hand. Using it, he walked through the power plant. Looking around for any sort of switch.
Something whizzed past his cheek, slicing through some of the fur. He covered his cheek as he ran into cover. "Sniper!" He thought to himself. He super heated his body and moved his left hand out into the open. He really should give this technique a name. How about melting point? Yeah, that sounded good.
A bb pellet smacked against his left hand. "Fuck!" He thought to himself. If this was in real life, his hand would've been blown off. Still it was a worthwhile experiment, he now knew that melting point wasn't the problem solver he thought it to be. He had to be clever with it.
Infernape jumped over his cover and shot a massive burst of fire at where he assumed the sniper was. He then ran for the main generators, led by signs, slamming into walls and the occasional map. He felt a strange rumbling below his feet but he ignored it.
He peered into the generator room and as expected, he saw jackshit. He wasn't even sure if he was in the generator room.
Beedrill sat there in utter confusion. What in the hrll was Infernape trying to do here? There were criminals around the streets so why was he laser focused on the generator-
It clicked in his head just what Infernape was planning. He smiled, it sounded like something he would do, but he knew it was a great risk. Infernape needed to be fast. Beedrill guessed that Infernape had about five minute to-
Infernape felt another rumbling in his feet. This time, his attention was taken by the shaking. Was this part of the test? A bb pellet smacked into the wall next to him and he remembered where he was. He burst towards the generator, soaring towards it. Bullet flew past him, "There must be at least seven people here! Goddamn!" he thought. Infernape shot beams of flame from his hand and spun in a circle, surrounding himself in smoke and embers. A robot charged through the smoke and tried to smack him with the butt of the rifle.
Infernape ducked and grabbed the stock and smacked the robot with the barrel. The robot fell onto the ground like brick as Infernape twirled around the rifle like a bo. He jumped up and smacked another robot in the head as it ran towards him. He landed on his hands and held the rifle with his feet. He spun on his palm and smacked another with the rifle butt again, causing it to explode. He pushed himself into the air and threw it away from him.
Another rumbling occurred, distracting Infernape. The smoke cleared as the robots appeared to be frozen in place. He paused the moment he landed and looked around worriedly, like he didn't belong here. He yelled out, "Beedrill, what's going on?!" Silence, like the dead of space. Infernape gritted his teeth nervously, "Lopunny! Blastoise! Gardevoir! Anyone!"
Infernape burst from the ground towards the observation window. He braced for impact just before he crashed through the window. He rolled into the deck, tumbling until he smacked into the wall. He opened his eyes and saw that no one was there. He gritted his teeth and made his way out into the hallway.
Something flew past him and embedded itself in the wall. Infernape looked back and gasped,
"LOPUNNY!"
