"Mr. Seville, How did you meet your boys?"
"You know, I've always said that how I met them is a long story..."
"Well,y'know, I'm ready to tell you how they came into my life"
It was a cold, cold night and the snow fell heavily that night with the wind blowing fiercely alongside. The animals of the forest were struggling to survive in the harsh winter conditions, and many were forced to migrate north in search of food and shelter. In a small, rustic, and leaky cabin, a middle-aged man named David Seville slept soundly at his piano table, oblivious to the chaos outside when the phone rang, waking up from his slumber. Dave was so tired that he didn't bother answering the phone and let it go to voicemail.
"Mr. Seville, I'm calling to inform you that I will be needing that hit song of yours by the end of January or else, I'm afraid I'll have to fire you."
Dave had been trying desperately to write a hit song before his deadline. On top of that, his greedy landlord kept bugging him for rent money. Speaking of the landlord, he decided to pay him a visit to, once again, stressing about the rent.
"Hello again, David", said The landlord, connivingly, "Are you going to give me another excuse as to why you don't have your rent or are you going to hand it to me, now?" Dave began fumbling into his pockets for money, flipping them inside out.
"Uh, n-not yet, sir", said Dave, nervously, "B-But I'll get it to as soon as I can. J-Just give me a few more—"
"I'll give you until the end of the week, Seville, Got it!", interrupted The landlord.
"...Y-Yes, sir", gulped Dave.
"And if I don't have my rent the rent by then, those little rodents won't be the only thing migrating", threatened The Landlord as he slammed Dave's piano shut. As the landlord turned on his heel and headed to the door, he spotted a plush toy dog on Dave's Couch.
"Oh, and just a reminder", said the landlord as he picked up the the plush toy dog, "No pets or animals!" The landlord proceeded to throw the plush dog in the trash and walked out the door, slamming it shut.
"Who does he think he is?", scoffed Dave, " I really should get out of this place. It's a dump anyways. Maybe I can convince my parents to let me live on their farm again. At least there I would have some peace and quiet, and I wouldn't have to worry about a landlord breathing down my neck. And who knows, maybe the country air would be good for my songwriting." Dave was about to give up for the day and maybe quit music, find a new job, and find a new place to live when a loud crash could be heard from outside.
"What was that?!", said Dave. He grabbed a blanket and ran to the door to see what was the commotion. Dave opened the door, and a blast of cold air hit him in the face. The wind was howling and the snow was falling heavily, and he could barely see in front of him. Squinting, he looked around to see what had made the loud crash he had heard. He saw that a tree had been knocked over by the wind.
He was about to turn and go back inside when he noticed something moving in the distance. It was a small figure, wearing a hood and carrying a basket. As the figure got closer, Dave could see that it was a person, but he couldn't tell who it was. The hooded figure walked up to Dave and handed him a basket with a blanket on top of it. The hooded figure only said four words before running off and disappearing in the snowy wind.
"Take care of them"
Dave stood there for a moment, the basket in his hands, with his mind racing. He didn't know who the hooded figure was or why they had left him with the basket. He gently lifted the blanket off the basket and gasped. Inside, huddled together for warmth, were three tiny chipmunks. They were shivering and scared, but their eyes were bright and curious.
Dave knew at that moment that he had to take care of them. As He carried them inside his cabin, Dave noticed three color-coded tags on their clothes with names on it; Alvin in red, Simon in blue, and Theodore in green. He gave them some food and water, and made them a warm bed.
"There we are. All snuggly-poo", said Dave as he tucked them in bed, "Now, daddy Davey has got to get some sleep now, nighty night." Dave yawned and went into a separate bedroom. Unbeknownst to Dave, the three little chipmunks weren't all that sleepy. As soon as he was out of sight, the little guys jumped out of their makeshift bed and set off on an adventure. They scouted every nook and cranny of the cabin, leaving a huge mess in their wake.
In the kitchen, Theodore, the chipmunk in green, had no trouble finding the food and quickly made a sandwich out of whatever he could find in the fridge and It was gone in a single bite. Simon, the chipmunk in blue, headed for a bookshelf, but due to his bad eyesight, he ran straight into a table. A pair of glasses that had been sitting on the table were knocked off. The glasses landed on the face of a man sitting nearby, and he was amazed to discover that he could now see clearly. He picked up one of the fallen books and began reading. Meanwhile, in the living room, Alvin the chipmunk, the one in red, discovered the piano.
Simon and Theodore saw him at the piano and were so surprised they stopped what they were doing and just stared. The noise they made climbing all over the instrument and banging on the keys woke Dave from his nap. He found Alvin, Simon, and Theodore standing on the piano, beaming at him, with the rest of the cabin in a complete shambles. He knew he should be mad at them, but their cute little smiles made it impossible. Dave scooped them up in his arms and carried them into his bedroom.
"Looks like you guys are going to be a handful," he sighed.
…And so began Dave's adventure with the three chipmunks…
