Unknown to Dave, the chipmunks were alive and in search for him. They had been lost and confused, walking around the nearby city, trying to find a way back home. Now, they're searching everywhere for him, and they're not going to stop until they find him. The three boys walked for what felt like hours and Theodore has had enough.
"Guys", he whines, "My feet hurt. I don't think I can walk another second."
"Fight through it, Theo!", says Alvin, "We have to get back to Dave."
"But we've been walking for hours!", says Theodore with tears starting to form, "What if we never find Dave?"
Alvin and Simon look at each other and sigh. They know Theodore is scared, and they don't want to upset him more.
"We're going to find Dave, Theodore", says Simon, "We have to. He's our dad." Alvin nodded in agreement.
"Simon's right", he agreed, "We're not going to stop until we find him."
Theodore sniffs and wipes his nose with his sleeve. "Okay", he says. "You're right, guys. L-Let's go!" As they continued on their search, the Chipmunks passed a hat store that was next to a music store. Alvin stopped in his tracks and snapped his fingers. He was struck with an idea.
"That's it! Why don't we earn some money, call a cab, and take a ride back to Dave's house?" he said. Simon didn't think it was a bad idea, but he still wasn't sure.
"That could work, but how would we tell the driver where to go when we don't even know where we are?" he asked.
"Oh, we'll just tell them to drop us off somewhere random in the mountains, and then we can hike the rest of the way," said Alvin confidently, "no big deal." Before Simon could argue, Alvin grabbed a red hat that matched his shirt. He ran over to a music box sitting in the window of the music store and pressed a button. The music box started to play, and people nearby stopped to watch as Alvin started singing.

The crowd was loving Alvin's crazy enthusiasm and wild wild personality as he performed. While Simon thought he was just being his overly boisterous self, but even he had to admit his energy was contagious. Simon found himself grooving to the song and Alvin noticed it. Alvin smirked and gestured him to take it away. Simon was reluctant, but with some encouragement from Theodore, Simon adjusted his glasses and began to sing.

The crowd was wild for the boys! They were eating out of the their hands, and they weren't even trying very hard. It was as if they had some kind of special, magical power over the audience. The boys were also earning a lot of money, and not just enough to get back home, but enough to pay Dave's rent. In the crowd, a high-ranking music executive was in the audience, with his henchman in tow.
He looked very interested in the boys' performance.

The crowd erupted with cheers as the Chipmunks finished the song. They were amazing! It was easy to forget they were just kids with the way they commanded the area. The crowd was eating out of their hands. The boys looked around at the audience, cheering and begging for another song.
"Thank you, everyone! You've been great!" Alvin exclaimed.
"You were wonderful!" cried a woman in the front row.
"You're going to be huge!" yelled a man in the back.
The boys took a bow and saw the cap that Alvin picked up overflowing with cash. The Chipmunks were so excited; They had finally found a way to get back home to Dave. After finally breaking from the crowd, they were able to call a taxi. The boys waved goodbye to the crowd of people once more and headed inside the taxi. But before they could get in, the door was suddenly kicked closed.
"Hey!", exclaimed Alvin, "What's the big deal!"
The voice belonged to the music executive who had been in the crowd.
"The big deal?", he said, "Why you guys, if I play my cards right." The boys looked at each other in confusion. The executive sapped his fingers and his little lackey at his side handed the kids a bunch of toys, candy, and video games.
"My name's Ian," he said. "Ian Hawke. I'm the Music Executive and Manager of JETT Records. I'm looking to sign you to a deal. That performance you just did? Phenomenal. Trust me boys, all I need is three months and I'll turn you boys into superstars." While they were interested in what Ian was offering, The boys were too focused on Ian's little henchman, who looked like a chipmunk, just like them.
The lackey noticed this, smirked and nudged Ian on his leg. Ian groaned and rolled his eyes. "And This is Harry," Ian said, "Harry... I forget his last name, but I know he's my second-in-command at the office"— He leaned in close—"He's more of an assistant, but don't tell him I said that."
"Howdy, Boys!", said Harry, as he shook their hands, "You probably noticed that we look a lot alike. Well, just like you, I am a chipmunk as well, except I'm the one living the high life!"
"Yeah, he used to be a street urchin like you guys until I took him under my wing", said Ian.
"Now, I'm second in command at the biggest music company in California", said Harry, "With our help, We can make you thousands of dollars!" Alvin's eyes lit up.
"Thousands?", he asked.
"No, no, not thousands", Ian said, "Try millions." Alvin immediately fainted into Simon's arms. Speaking of Simon, him and Theodore, who gnawed through half of the sweets by now, weren't too sure about this deal.
"I'm not sure about this, guys," said Simon.
"Awww, come on, kid. Us chipmunks gotta stick together, right?" said Harry.
"Yeah," said Ian, "And if you're still worried, we can always talk this over with your parents."
"If we can find them," said Theodore, "We were only singing to try and get enough money so we could call our dad, Dave." Just then, Ian's eyes lit up.
"Dave?", he said, "As in Dave Seville?"
Simon and Theodore were floored that someone knew their dad. In their excitement, Alvin woken up, but Simon accidentally dropped him on the floor.
"Yeah," Simon said, "You know him?!"
"Of course," said Ian, "He and I go way back. I'll give him a call right now and let him know you boys are here with me. We can work together, no problem. Are you in?" Alvin was raring to go, but Simon and Theodore were still iffy on all this.
"Hey!", said a voice, "Where you get that hat, young man!" The voice belonged to the owner of the hat store. Alvin sensed trouble and made the decision for them.
"We're in!", said Alvin. He proceeded to push Simon and Theodore to a limo that he assumed was Ian's without any questions asked. Ian and harry smirked to each other and followed the boys to the limo.
"Welcome to JETT Records"
