Hey, all! Once again thank you for reading. Sorry if it seems like this took a while but it's been a wild ride since the last time I posted. My Hero Academia ended which was one of my favorite comfort series. I'm a little sad to see it go. On another note, I might be able to a bit more for a bit since I lost my job! It's always fun when a company just shuts the doors randomly on a Tuesday!
Anyways that's enough of my rambling. Please enjoy!
Hala exhaled as he extended his hand, palm out, arm straight. He was finishing the last of his katas, a morning ritual he had taken up and expanded on since his more hot-blooded youth. The rising Alolan sun crested over the horizon, bathing the islands in its golden light and warming his old bones.
He straightened his posture (ignoring the creaking of his knees as he did) and moved to exit the courtyard of his dojo styled house. Not a palace, he would frequently remind the older generations of Islanders, despite that being the technical term for where a Kahuna would live.
He slid the paper door open and sighed as he sunk down on the couch of the living room. The clinking of porcelain told him that Hariyama was moving about the kitchen while the clumsiness of the movements told him that she was instructing the youngest of the Makuhita. A few minutes later the PokeGirls entered the living room, with Makuhita carrying a tray of morning tea, freshly brewed.
"Thank you my dear," he praised as she set the tray down on the table. "And thank you for brewing tea so early." He said as Hariyama sat next to him. The Arm Thrust PokeGirl nodded stoically as she lightly cuddled into his side.
He relaxed in the presence of his oldest and most faithful companion. He felt guilty for interrupting her own morning stretching to have her brew a pot of tea. However he knew that she would wave off any form of recompense. He knew the PokeGirl had taken to the art of brewing years ago and would happily make it anytime for any reason.
A knock on the door brought his attention to the reason he had requested tea so early. I was worried the tea would go cold before he arrived, he mused as Makuhita opened the door. On the other side of the door was young Michael, the boy having messaged Hala that he was recovered enough for his first Island Trial. The boy arrived dressed for a hike with a pair of comfortable walking shoes and tan cargo pants. He wore a breathable unbuttoned shirt that made Hala frown as he saw the 2 noticeable scars marking his chest. A shame this young man has had to go through such difficult times this young.
"Thank you for having me." I said as I entered Hala's home. I was a bit surprised how homey the house was inside considering Rotom had informed me that Kahuna's lived in palaces. Then again Hala seemed like the type to fight tooth and nail to not live in a palace. The dojo styled home had sat atop a hill with a raised platform for PokeGirls battle in front of it. Inside, the floors and walls were styled like Japanese (Johtoian?) tatami and shoji completing the dojo look. Hala sat with a battle scarred Hariyama on one of the couches surrounding a small coffee table.
"Michael, good morning to you. Please sit, have some tea." Hala's deep voice boomed in greeting as I entered. Hariyama sent a small glare at Rotom as she tried to explore, causing the possessed device to zip back to my side. "I apologize for the early morning. However, Trials have been known to take entire days!" He said cheerily.
"It's fine Kahuna Hala. I've been up for a bit already." I scratched my chin as I thought about the pile of bodies I had woken up in. Turns out, most of my friends were cuddlers. As nice as it was to wake up to the angelic sleeping face of Lillie cuddled into my right, it was a bit dampened by the chainsaw snoring of Rapp in my left and the fact we were using Kiawe's stomach and chest as a human pillow. Still seeing Lana and Mallow cuddling each other was adorable.
"To be honest with you, young man, there was another reason I asked for you to arrive so early." Hala said as he clasped his hands and leaned forward to give me a bit of a serious look. "I thought it prudent to give you a lesson on the Island Challenge and the Trials that come with them and the history behind them." I couldn't help but sit up in my seat. An exclusive history lesson on another world's culture from probably one of the most qualified individuals to give it? My nerd heart and brain soared in joy.
Hala smiled at my attentiveness before he launched into his lesson. "The Island Trials first started after the rise of the first and only Great Kahuna. A brief aside, Great Kahuna Kalani united the 4 islands and the numerous clans after receiving a mission and guidance from the 4 Tapus. However, after his conquest with the aid of the first Totem PokeGirls, he was left with a problem. Numerous clans with not only powerful warriors but also an up and coming generation. So, in order to instill the ideals he held dear he and his 4 Kahunas created the Island Challenge. A test for all who wished to challenge themselves and prove their metal to others."
"I see. So Kalani made the Island Challenge both as a way to give any rivals something to do and to teach future generations."
Hala smiled, "No one could ever claim that Kalani didn't plan ahead. The results can even be felt today. Young men and women strive in unity with their PokeGirls to overcome challenges put forth to them by their communities."
It made sense. It was rooted in tradition at this point and I imagine the first trials looked nothing like the trials of today but they all served the same purpose. Strengthen the younglings and teach them lessons all wrapped up in a neat community service bow. Not bad, Kalani. That's a civilization move if I've ever heard of one.
"Now I believe that is all I have for you. Do you have any questions? Whether about your Trial or anything else?"
I hesitated as I considered my Trial. I had been mulling it over in my head and with Rotom (who was most certainly against it. Who knew she could hold that much of a grudge?) but it was rather… lacking in the information department.
"I do have some questions, Kahuna Hala. It's mostly about Totem PokeGirls." Hala eyes widened in surprise at that before I forged on. "All the islands have Totem PokeGirls right? How many does Melemele have?"
"Hmmm…last I heard and observed Melemele had played host to 3 Totem PokeGirls, however one of the current Totem PokeGirls is known to have several roosting spots around the Region." Hala put his hand to his chin. Okay filing that little tidbit for later.
"Would you happen to know what they are and where I could find them?" I asked. Hala merely shook his head.
"Unfortunately I do not. One is a Raticate and her colony that frequently moves and the other is quite the little roamer." Hariyama huffed off the side and Hala chuckled. "Yes, I said 'little'."
I frowned as I thought. Gumshoos was obviously powerful, maybe even a bit too powerful if the way she was able to limp off relatively quickly after Ribombee's Weather Ball. Before I could question more about the other Totem a knock drew our attention to the door as Makuhita went to answer. On the other side I saw the slicked back blue hair of Lunick as he entered with Minum trailing in after him.
"Sorry about the tardiness." He rubbed the back of his head as he bowed slightly to Hala and nodded to me. "Still had to do the morning briefing before heading over. How're you holding up Michael?"
"Fine. Are you joining us today?" I asked a bit curiously. Lunick nodded with a smile.
"Kahuna Hala invited me to be a witness. I thought it would be fun to witness an up and coming Trainer do his Trial so I accepted."
Hala smiled, "While normally just one witness would do for a Trial I thought it would help if I invited Lunick to observe after our initial disagreement."
"Thank you again for the invite." Lunick smiled. "I hope it's not too much trouble Michael?"
"No, it'll be fine."
"So, ready to go Michael? We'll follow and observe but try not to interfere unless necessary."
I blew a bit of air to steel whatever nerves I had left. "Ready as I can be." I had about 3% of a plan and honestly that's double what I normally had.
Mallow sighed as she dropped another load of dishes into the dishwasher. The morning breakfast rush extended well into a full blown brunch rush and she was just now getting to take a break. She had arrived after the sleepover at Michael's new place just to be dragged into the kitchen by her dad to help cook and serve. Still, she thought as she idly stirred a pot of compôte, it's nice to know he's not sleeping outdoors anymore. I probably should have said something sooner…or just dragged him inside to stay with me even if I had to keep in my be- She groaned as she slapped her hands to her face as she felt her face burn. Great, as if she wasn't dealing with enough teasing from Lana, she could only imagine what would happen if the horny Water enthusiast had heard that. She was already getting teased on the daily from her best friend but that would only get worse if she knew she was getting fantasies in the middle of the day.
I definitely don't need another presentation of poly romances… She sighed as she cut the heat on her pot. A bell chime drew her attention to her phone and she swiped to open.
The Bank: Hello, Mallow! I hope you're not busy. If you could find the time to chat I would love to.
The Bank: Also, do know why my name has changed?
She had to pause for a minute before facepalming. Right, Rapp and Lana had gotten a hold of everyone's phones and set them all up with ridiculous nicknames. I think this is Lillie…
Da Chef: Hey, Lillie! I've got a sec
Da Chef: Also blame Rapp and Lana. They got us all
The Bank: Oh! So that's why Lana needed my phone. At least she left Mother and Brother alone.
The Bank: Speaking of our friends, I was hoping to get Michael's number from you. I neglected to do so last night and I was too flustered this morning to ask before we all left.
Mallow sighed as she read her friends' messages. She knew no matter how much they could reassure her, they all knew she was still blaming herself for Michael getting injured. The girl had collapsed the second they all got to safety and had been a massive ball of nerves until Michael "forgave" her. She had to talk her down from bringing the gift cart when they had the sleepover last night and only just talked her down from buying a full bedroom furniture set.
I get she has a hell of an allowance and hardly spends it on anything but stuff for us but it's kinda ridiculous at times.
Da Chef: Sure, no problem.
Da Chef: (Contact info: Heartbreaker )
The Bank: Oh my…
Da Chef: … I'm gonna kill Lana and Rapp
Da Chef: Anywayssss, that's him
Da Chef: Fair warning, Rotom has full access to his messages so you're basically messaging both of them
The Bank: Oh, I see. That should be fine.
The Bank: Mother has been wanting me to invite him over for dinner as thanks for saving me
Da Chef: Ooo, gonna break out the fancy silver
The Bank: Only the best for my friends
The Bank: Oh, I'm sorry I have to go. Hobbes is calling. Have a good day!
Da Chef : Ttyl, babe ️
"Mallow! Is the Pinap compôte ready yet?" Her dad called from the dining room. Mallow barely stopped herself from dropping her phone into the pot. She grabbed another tasting spoon and nodded as she got exactly what she wanted.
"It's ready, Dad!"
Ribombee and Rotom floated up ahead of us as we trekked through the woods. They flitted from PokeGirl to PokeGirl, striking up conversations and asking questions. This was honestly the one thing that I had feeling would go right. See, Ribombee and I had pretty much established ourselves with the local PokeGirls. That meant we could pretty reliably get some information from them and Rotom would be able to translate. All that said, it meant we could, at least tangentially, track down where Gumshoos went after the storm.
Well I say that but, I felt some sweat drop as I saw a Caterpie flinch away from the dark aura surrounding Ribombee. We would probably be doing better if she didn't look like she was gonna murder someone.
"I must say, it's kinda odd that this many PokeGirls are so willing to be out in the open." Lunick commented as he observed the PokeGirls.
"Young Michael must have lived here for some time and built a harmonious relationship with the local population." Hala said. "His and Ribombee's reputation must be reassuring enough for them to be so open." I nodded as Hala wasn't exactly wrong. I was frequently just tossing extra food to the Bug Types as I walked through and the ones that were battle hungry respected our strength.
Eventually we found exactly who we needed. Lounging in high limb, just under the tree's leafy cover, was a PokeGirl I hadn't seen before. She laid on her stomach, straddling the limb she was on and letting her long hairy limbs dangle in the air. Each limb ended in claws that look geared to climbing. Her fur was tan with darker brown stripes. She had enormous brown eyes that were lazily watching us all. I couldn't get a good look at her body from down here but it looked like she was a fairly chubby PokeGirl. Ribombee and Rotom floated up to her, where she lazily blinked before slowly a small smile crossed her face. She raised a clawed hand and gently patted the Bee Fly's head.
"Slak~" Slaktoh intoned as she smiled at my PokeGirls.
"Oh, a Slakoth off from the main group. Such a rarity." Hala observed with his own smile.
"You're right, normally they're in large groups. Wonder what made her wander off?" Lunick asked.
"Master! Master, Slakoth knows where Gumshoos is!" Rotom excitedly floated down. "She can lead us there!"
"Really? That's great!" I said excitedly. Rotom looked a little nervous as I said that. "What's wrong?"
"W-well, it's just that…a Slakoth's max speed outside of battle is…rather lackluster…" She poked her "fingers" together. "So the only way she could lead us is…if she's carried."
"Oh. Well I mean, that's not too terrible? Pancham could probably-"
"Well she said, and I quote, 'I'll only get you there if that hunky young one carries me~'" She said with a bit of a cheeky and apologetic grin. How does she put those two emotions together?
I grimaced but I didn't really see any other way forward. "Alright, I can do it." Rotom nodded and floated back up to the chatting Bug and Normal type.
"Are you sure? She is still a wild PokeGirl." Lunick cautioned. To be told, he could have just used his capture styler and achieved the same effect but that would definitely be a case of interference.
"Yeah, it should be okay. I mean how bad can it be?"
"Look out below!" I barely look up to see Slakoth roll off the limb RIGHT AT ME OH GOD!
"OOOF!" I grunted as I caught Slakoth in a bridal carry. I barely stayed standing as I strained to rise back up. Any comfort I felt from getting to feel how soft her chubby thighs were and how close her nice C cup breasts were to my face. She wrapped her arms around my neck.
"Slakkk~" She smiled and nuzzled into my neck.
"W-welcome a-aboard." I groaned.
*Knock-Knock-Knock*
Rapp opened the door after a few quick knocks on her front door.
"Sup dorks." She teased as she opened the way for Tupp and Zipp. Tupp rolled his eyes as he semi-barged his way inside and Zipp gave a bit of a subdued wave.
"Finally, it's fu-freaking hot out there." Tupp complained as he dropped himself onto her couch.
"Mom and Dad ain't here. Don't worry." She waved off his concealed attempt to curse.
"Bet." He smirked as he threw his feet up on the coffee table. Only to yelp when she smacked his legs with a flip flop.
"Doesn't mean you can just act like you own the place, jackass." She scolded. "Hey Zipp, get me a soda out will ya?" She asked the larger boy as he passed by into the kitchen.
"Geez, you sure know how to swing that thing." Tupp complained as he rubbed the red spot on his leg.
"Yeah well maybe if you dorks hadn't been dodging me for the last few weeks I wouldn't have swung as hard." She scowled at them. Tupp shrugged and Zipp at least had the decency to look apologetic.
"Hey, don't blame us. You're the one who says you don't wanna hang around Boss Guzma. Besides you're always off with your boyyyfrrrieeendd~" He teased only to cut himself off as he ducked the ballistic footwear.
"Shut. Up." She growled red faced. "You know damn well why I've been "hanging out" with Michael. Did you guys even bother to go to the hospital once?" She narrowed her eyes at them. Both boys looked down slightly ashamed at that. At least you're not totally lost.
"W-well a-anyways, Rapp, get this. This Saturday there's gonna be a house party over on Ula'ula. We're going and you should come too! It'll be great!" Zipp excitedly told her. She hummed as she thought about it. Ula'ula was pretty far so she'd probably have to get permission to even stay at a motel or something.
"I don't know… Do we know who's hosting?" She asked and both boys nodded.
"I mean… it's Guzma so-"
"No way. Not a chance." She frowned.
"Come on, Rapp!," Tupp protested. "Why do you always turn us down when we mention Guzma? The boss is-"
"That! That right there! That boss thing is weird. It's a bad fuckin' vibe. Why are you calling him boss?
"W-well, s-see the thing is Rapp-"
"Boss Guzma invited us to join him. He's strong and he sees the bullshit of Trials and shit." Tupp said.
"Invite to what?" Rapp couldn't help but feel like a ball of hot lead was settling into her stomach.
"It's called Team Skull." He answered. "It's for all those people that got tossed aside. Remember when I tried to get a sponsor for the Challenge? That bastard Illima blocked me out so I couldn't!"
Rapp rolled her eyes. "Tupp you always say Illima does something but you know that-"
"It doesn't matter! Why should he get to cut in line?! Just because he's more popular?!" He yelled back.
"OI! Don't yell at me! I'm not the one who's trying to join some shitty gang!" She roared back.
"G-guys…"
"IT'S NOT SOME SHITTY GANG! Guzma's already the strongest trainer on the islands and he doesn't need some shitty appreciation badges from the Kahunas! Hell, he doesn't even need a league to prove that!"
"So what if he's strong? What's he gonna do with it huh?!"
"No more Challenges. No league. Just Alola moving forward for us! Come on, Rapp, it's always been us 3. We were always the outsiders, picked last and shit while people like Princess and her cronies rose to the top."
"It's not Princess to you. It's Lillie." Rapp growled, her eyes darkening.
"Oh so just because they decided to reach down and pull you up you're suddenly better than us? Next you'll say you're going back to the PokeGirl school." Tupp spat back. Rapp flinched at the memories of hair pulling and not-so subtle laughter behind her back.
"That's not it! They're not at all like that." She yelled. "They-"
"GUYS!" Zipp yelled. He flinched slightly before sighing. "Let's just calm down." Tupp huffed as he dropped back onto the couch. Rapp slowly lowered herself back down too. "Look, Rapp, it's not like Guzma's some cult leader. If someone has a problem he listens. They guys are cool and the girls are really nice. Plumeria is a lot like you actually!"
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"W-well she's kinda sister like you know? Just…angrier?"
"Oi."
"I think you'd really like it. It's what we've always wanted, Rapp." Zipp said softly. "To be independent, to be a real rebel, to live how we wanted."
"I don't know…" She confessed. It wasn't wrong to say that's what she wanted. Hell, she had dyed her hair in secret for it once. Now though…
"Hell, if you're worried about your boyfriend don't worry." Tupp said, waving his hand in the air. "Boss' still interested in him. Asked us about him once or twice."
Rapp scoffed. She knew Michael wasn't buying into Guzma's deal. "Whatever."
"Fuck it, we came to hangout. You still got Smash Bros?" Tupp asked.
"Oh sure. I'm always down to beat your ass." She smirked as Tupp growled.
Pros, She's extremely soft, like carrying a squishmellow on your back the size of you. Her snores are actually kinda cute. Cons, she weighs like a sack of bricks and could probably use at least a dip in the creek for a minute or 10.
I grunted as I step around another rock that was hidden in this fuck-off tall grass that Slakoth had let us to. I had shifted the Slacker PokeGirl onto my back to make her slightly easier to carry. She had seemed to immediately fall asleep but in reality every time I got slightly confused where to go she would lazily raise a hand and point. This had led us deep into a tall grassy plain and it didn't seem like we were getting any closer until Slakoth yawned and poked my cheek.
"Slakoth…"
I was about to ask before a couple of growls cut me off. Out of the brush stalked two figures I was becoming unfortunately familiar with. Yungoos growled and snapped their jaws in a show of intimidation. They both flinched when a frown Ribombee hovered in to separate us. Before anything could escalate however…
"Gumshoos…" A gruffer voice called out from behind them. The long blades part and the evolved form of the Normal types stepped out.
I thought I might have a mix of emotions on seeing her but the only thing that came was concern. She looked…almost broken. Her hair was matted, her fur seemed like it was spotty in some places, she looked like she was starving and it looked like she had tear tracks on her face. The large still healing scar across her chest certainly didn't help. I figured that a Chansey might have seen to her since but it looks like none had come by.
"Gum, Gum, Gumshoos." The Stakeout PokeGirl called out. Yungoos gasped at their larger counterpart.
"Gumshoos said if you're here to take revenge to leave her little sisters out of it." Rotom said with a bit of pity in her voice. The Yungoos tried to step forward to yell at us only for Gumshoos to bar her from advancing.
"Why do you think I'm gonna take revenge?" I asked Gumshoos. The Stakeout PokeGirl sighed before speaking with Rotom providing a translation.
"I hurt you. Out here in the wild, it's spoken of what happens to PokeGirls who…who hunt humans…" She said through gritted teeth. Lunick sucked some air through his teeth and Hala seemed to bow his head in shame. "After what happened the first time…" Wait? First time?
That sparked some recognition in me. "You're the group of Yungoos. The ones I saved Vulpix from." I said. All 3 nodded. A flash of light signaled Vulpix leaving her pokeball to stand beside me. All 3 Normal Types winced under the icy glare of Vulpix. The last time they were this close to her, she was scared, injured, starving and injured. Now the roles had been flipped and the cold glare from the snow vixen was withering. The tension was so oppressive that even Slakoth seemed to wake up enough to observe. All at once Vulpix huffed and asked a single question.
"Why?"
There was probably a lot wrapped up in that one syllable. Vulpix had gone through a rough patch after Damian released her. She was a domestic PokeGirl. Born to a domesticated Ninetails and almost immediately given to a Trainer, she'd had no idea how to fend for herself in the wild. She ran into problem after problem trying to find food. It would be too rotten to eat or another larger or even just one that didn't hesitate in battle would drive her off. Then at her lowest point she was attacked again and for the first time she didn't know why. These 3 had chased her for hours before she had luckily run into Michael and Cutiefly. If she hadn't…
The 3 sisters couldn't help but look ashamed before Gumshoos spoke up. "We…we were angry. Our pack, they value strength above all. So when someone can't pull their weight…they get abandoned….like our grandmother…" She spat angrily before breathing in.
"We left after that. We thought…we thought the world worked exactly like our colony. So when we saw you, we thought you would be strong and we could keep proving ourselves. So when you ran…"
"You got angrier and decided to take it out on her…" I finished with a frown. When all 3 nodded I continued. "Then I beat you. And so when the storm happened that made a bunch of PokeGirls rampage, you were already primed and ready."
"Yes… I don't know what came over us but it just made us crazy…" Gumshoos blushed. "Me especially… I don't know why, maybe cause of my recent evolution but when I saw you all I just couldn't think of anything but hurting. Originally I thought it was just enough power to throw the girl away but when I realized it was you… I lost control."
"It wasn't just you sis… when I saw the buzzing one I just…" The smaller Yungoos confessed.
"It was all of us!" The other yelled. "Big sis! Maybe she put too much into her Slash but! She still hasn't gotten a hold of her power yet! She's getting stronger! Even though she gives us all the food! Don't hurt her just because of a mistake! Please!" Gumshoos started to berate her sister's saying she should have known better and for them getting involved. Rotom was tearing up as the younger sisters defended the older sister. Even Ribombee and Vulpix's eyes had softened.
"Hmmm, stronger by the day you say?" Hala said thoughtfully.
"Something up, Kahuna Hala?" I asked.
"Do you mind if I ask a question very quickly, young Michael?" He asked.
"Uhhh, sure?"
"Thank you." Hala said before catching the Normal types in a bit of a lull. "Gumshoos, when you attacked Michael you said you lost control of your power, yes?"
"Yes, I did. It's been happening a lot lately, since I evolved to hunt for us better."
"Interesting… Do you remember when you evolved? Did anything…odd happen before?" Hala asked pointedly.
"Weird?" She brought a hand to her chin before snapping her clawed fingers. How did she do that? "Oh yea! I remember! The night before just after Wonder Buzz over there sent us packing I remember thinking about how I wanted to be stronger. I remember a voice or something asking me a bunch of questions about why I wanted to be strong!"
"And what was your answer?" Hala asked. Gumshoos blushed before twirling her claws around themselves.
"I…I wanted to be strong for my sisters…I was the one who convinced us to leave the pack. I was the one who told us to hunt Vulpix. I was the one always getting us into trouble and never being able to get out of it. I shouldn't have to burden them, they should be able to rely on me."
"And what of others? Do they deserve your strength?"
"...yeah. They do." She said before looking up with a fire. "I did a lot of thinking since I left the pack. About strength and what it's used for. What good is being strong if you can't be strong for those that aren't? What good is being able to eat if your pack is hungry? I wanna use my strength better, to protect not just to hurt…" She looked at me. "Not again."
I smiled and nodded. Hey this must be what it feels like to have a big anime moment. Damn this shit feels good!
"Well said. I think I have a better grasp of what's going on. Young Michael, this is still your trial but I have some advice, if you would like to hear it." Hala said. "You would as well." He said to Gumshoos.
"We're all ears, Kahuna."
"This ties back to what I said earlier. Do you remember my mention of Great Kahuna Kalani?"
"Yeah, you said he did it with the aid of the first Totem PokeGirls."
"Indeed. Now how do you think a new Totem rises?"
I considered the question. If we considered there was one Totem for every type then that made for several scenarios. The obvious rule out was heritage. I remember from the episode of Ash meeting a young Kakui that there was a Totem Trevenant. Surely if it was heritage then it would give rise to another Totem Trevenant. However, if that was the case then there would be no way for there to be a Totem Lurantis or Totem Mimikyu, which I'm fairly confident exist due to their appearances being spread across the games, anime and manga respectively. It can't be merit based cause then whatever was the current Alpha would be the Totem and it would change too much. So if it's not hereditary and it's not merit then maybe?
"Are they chosen?" I asked. Hala smiled and Lunick gaped a bit.
"How did you come to that conclusion?" He asked. Hala nodded as I explained.
"You're correct. The first Totem's were chosen by the Tapus to reflect the power of their innermost hearts. They were the first to harness the Z-moves alongside the Great Kahuna. However, no PokeGirl is immortal and even the long lived Ghosts cannot be around forever."
"So how are they chosen?" Rotom asked curiously, no doubt logging a bit of this information.
"Simple, when the current Totem soul dims, another PokeGirl's brightens." Hala said as he gestured to Gumshoos. "I believe that is what is happening. Your 'weird dream' as you put it was a test. A test from Tapu Koko that you seemed to have passed."
"W-w-w-wait! You're saying big sis i-is gonna be like!" One of the younger sisters cried.
"Not like. Will be." Hala said firmly to a stunned audience. Gumshoos looked like she was about to faint while her sisters actually did. To be honest, me and my PokeGirls weren't exactly far behind.
"W-wait, Kahuna Hala, if all that is true then what will happen? How does Gumshoos..become the Totem?" I asked.
"As her power grows she will begin to feel a call in her soul, drawing her to the current Totem. They will be compelled to fight so that the Totem and her can forge a connection. From there a bit of training under her before a final battle to solidify her place." Hala explained. Gumshoos seemed to be mesmerized as she looked down at her own claws, like they were truly hers. "I believe I know what you have to do Michael. As Kahuna of Melemele, I declare your first Trial a success and impart upon you a second. Do you accept it?" I thought I knew where he was going. I looked to my sides for my PokeGirls. Ribombee bit her lip as she nodded stiffly. Vulpix on the other hand…
She was still as cold as ever. Her icy gaze still locked upon Gumshoos. She moved like a rolling blizzard to look down upon the Stakeout PokeGirl, who flinched slightly. The Normal type sighed before locking her gaze onto my PokeGirl.
"Gumshoos, Gum gum, gumshoos." She said, I looked to Rotom for a second before she shook her head. Apparently whatever was being said was strictly for PokeGirl ears.
"Vul. Vul, vul vu, Vulpix. Vulpix." She growled at the end and Gumshoos nodded determinedly. The icy vixen looked back at me with a slightly tired gaze before nodding. I recalled her for a bit of rest before turning back to my observers.
"We're ready Kahuna Hala."
"Excellent. Then your task is thus, Escort Gumshoos and seek out the current Totem Normal Type PokeGirl. Assist her in her battle to be recognized." He declared.
Alright, I can do this. Hell we can get started now…right now…just…gotta…
"Um, Kahuna Hala. Where is the the Normal Type totem?" I asked with a bit of sweat dropping off my brow.
Hala smiled, "I do believe the Tapus have already provided us with the perfect guide." I was a bit confused before I felt the forgotten weight on my back shift. A clawed hand turned my head just in time for soft lips to ghost over mine.
Mwah* "Slaaaa~"
Giovanni was annoyed. Not mad, just annoyed. Of course getting a call from those 3 idiots very rarely improved his mood but today was a special kind of annoyance. Perhaps it's time to let them go? …no. They were once exemplary and if the fact they're able to do something so disconnected from the rest of Rocket then they're at least resilient. Better to have a useless ally than a resourceful enemy.
No, the reason for his annoyance was twofold. Recently the IP had begun poking into his more civilian life. While normally he was written off as the elusive Viridian Gym Leader, suddenly requests for meetings had been coming in. While his automated secretary would send off the generic responses of denial, that did nothing for the undercover cops following his gym trainers. While not all were Rocket members, enough were that it was concerning. Rocket members were trained to deal with tails so he wasn't too concerned. He himself had plenty of experience in dealing with rivals and law enforcement that he wasn't concerned about leaving his headquarters.
However, today was a major tip off. He had more than enough loyalists in the courts and banks to let him know they had upgraded their poking into meddling by trying to access the Viridian Gym's accounts. He would most certainly be fine if anything was seized. There was too much insulation from his Rocket assets to be truly fearful and so now he was just annoyed.
"Sir," Matori announced herself as she entered his office. "Here's the reports from the field teams in Kalos and Unova."
"Go ahead."
"We're still encountering just as much resistance as we did when we tried to recruit locally in Hoenn. Our usual recruitment tactics would be effective if there weren't already local large-scale operations."
"Hmm, and what are these local operations called?"
"Flare and Plasma respectively, sir. While we haven't been able to ascertain Flare's goals, from what we can gather, Plasma seems to hold an ideology antithetical to our goals. They believe in PokeGirl liberation, by either legal means or forceful."
Giovanni grimaced at that. "Continue looking into Flare. Move Unova agents to a sabotage posture. No open acts, just… minor inconveniences for them."
"Yes, sir. Also, you've been invited for dinner by one of your business partners."
"Ah, which one? I do hope it's not in Paldea. The weather is terrible this time of year."
"You'll be happy to know then that the invitation came from Alola."
Giovanni smiled. Yes, that is good.
This…this is bad. I thought as I took a couple steps back. Gumshoos backed up in awe and a bit of fear as Ribombee and Rotom floated in stunned silence. We had found the Totem PokeGirl. Just like how Slakoth had led us to Gumshoos she had led deep into the forest on the other side of the grassy plains. This jungle was most certainly connected to the deep jungle that me and my friends had passed through the day of our lake adventure. However, this one was even more dense and packed with wildlife. And with Evolved PokeGirls. There were a few that seemed curious about us, sitting in the tops of trees and following our group as we continued in. However, none seemed to want to come down to interact or harass us.
It was getting late in the day at this point so when Slakoth finally caught our attention with a halting motion I couldn't help but sigh in relief. I had gotten used to her weight at this point and we had breaks but it was still a hell of a task to carry her for so long. On the brightside I seem to be Ash levels of bullshit strong. Maybe it's just anime privilege?
We ended up in a large clearing with an absolutely massive tree. The trunk was easily the size of a semi truck, even with the hill in front of it blocking most of the view. The branches reached far, far above the surrounding trees. They create a shade over the whole area with golden rays of light filtering down.
"Are we here Slakoth?" I asked and the Slacker PokeGirl nodded. She cupped her hands and looked up to the trees.
"Slak, Slak~" She called out. At her call the leaves above us rusted and part as a massive colony of Slakoth appeared. All of them appeared rather similar, chubby with tan fur and dark brown striping but there were a few outliers. Some were larger and more muscular and their tan fur was splotched with white hairs.
"Woah." Lunick commented as he swiveled on his heels to track all the new arrivals. His hand dropped down to where he could quickly snatch his styler if needed. Hala smiled as he observed the group, waving at a few of the more friendly members and laughing at their lax waves back.
"Oh my! 10, 14, 19, 28, there's over 40 Slakoths here! There's even a few on the verge of evolution! This is amazing, Master!" Rotom exclaimed as she took some pictures for a field report to Kukui. Some gave her small smiles while others just ignored the flash.
"Well, your family certainly looks like you." I joked to Slakoth who giggled.
"She's…she's here. I can feel it. Where-!" Gumshoos started to ask before the 'hill' shifted. I could feel my mouth drop open as I stared in shock.
Massive rolls of muscle and fat coiled, visible even under the chocolate fur that covered most of her body. The hill flipped over slowly allowing me to get a good look at her bare front. Her breasts seemed to sag low under the enormous mass of themselves. The light pale nipples seemed to ghost into the rest of her skin, almost like an afterthought. THOSE THINGS ARE BIGGER THAN MY HEAD! I thought in slight panic as I saw them. A large bush of hair stood out above her crotch and obscured her sex from complete view. From there my eyes trailed her hips and I could almost see her massive ass even beyond there. She huffed in effort as she turned to fully face us, laying on her side, one of her massive meaty hands scratching her belly. Her face was clean with long white hair trailing down from her head to the ground as she propped herself up on the other. She was covered in scars, probably more than a decade of hard fought PokeGirl battles with wild ones who thought they could take on the obvious queen of the jungle. I couldn't help but be in awe at the size of her, easily bigger than a truck and more than likely had enough muscle and mass to crush one too.
"Sllllllaaaaaakiiinnngggg…" She yawned before her lazy eyes focused on us. She seemed to flit from one figure to the next, dismissing us until she landed on Gumshoos. She lingered on the growing discomfort of the Stakeout PokeGirl. A tension built in the air, before all at once her eyes snapped to full attention. They widened and sharpened to give us all a good look at deep hickory brown. A sudden wind swept past us, forcing us to narrow our eyes and look away. When we regained our bearings a slight yellow glow had surrounded the Lazy PokeGirl. Gone was the languorous attitude, in its place was the Normal Type Totem PokeGirl.
"Slaking." she seemed to growl, in an open challenge.
