Nova came from a powerful line of witches, her ancestors believed that there was prophecy, that a girl would be born in the family line with the powers of the mighty Phoenix.
Over a 100 years their Prophecy came true, Nova Mathers was born to two extremely powerful witches, From a very early age, she displayed signs of extraordinary power and ability, the powers of the Phoenix especially started to manifest, showing strong signs of fire and telekinesis, her skin burned hotter than a normal human, and her eyes were a notably fiery orange colour, her parents doted on her and wanted to keep her safe, especially when other supernatural creatures started taking an interest in their daughter, they created a power charmed bracelet to try and mask the Phoenix, it barely worked but just enough to keep her hidden.
When she was 8 years old, her parents were fatefully killed in suspicious circumstances, she was placed with her two aunts who promised that they would protect her, and that's what they did, when she was 10 years old they moved to Mystic Falls, hoping that this small town would be a good place to keep the young Phoenix Witch safely hidden..
