Chapter 11

Olivia and Elliot arrived back at the precinct and they all compared notes on what had been discovered. Fin, Detective Klass, and Betty had not yet returned from their trip to the Caitlin Williams place. Olivia absorbed the information. Akiko had friends that she did not mention to Klass and she had some sort of falling out with this Caitlin.

"Ok, I know that Fin will be tactful in his approach but if this woman is working with Dylan, she might warn him. Do we know where this asshole is?" Olivia was not in the mood.

"His parole officer said he's been making his appointments. He has one tomorrow. Should we meet him there?" Velasco asked.

"He knows if he misses that appointment, they'll violate him, and a warrant will be issued. Even if Caitlin calls him, I don't think he's finished with his task. He may be too focused on getting to Detective Klass to not miss the appointment," George Huang spoke up.

"Good point. Where is he putting his head at night?" Elliot wanted to know.

"The parole officer says it's at a halfway house since none of his family would take him in. I have the address," Velasco let him know.

"You know what that means – surveillance. Bruno, you and Velasco take the first shift. He has a curfew, correct?" Olivia asked.

"Halfway house locks the front doors at nine pm but they don't do a head count," Bruno told her.

"No head counts?" She raised an eyebrow.

"These guys are on parole so most of them manage to get back in time. Only certain ones have permission to come home at different times due to the jobs they have. The guy I talked to says they have a resident narc anyway," Bruno said.

"Oh, that must go over well," Elliot chuckled.

"Security cameras are in every public part of the house. Mostly for the benefit of the workers," the younger detective explained.

"We already have a problem though – Akiko was attacked at almost ten pm. If Dylan was supposed to be back at the halfway house by nine pm…" Rollins gave them all a look. She'd been keeping baby Dominick company while on the phone with Jet over at OCCB.

"Dylan works the three to eleven shift down at a warehouse as a maintenance worker. I had to leave a message for his boss," Velasco piped up. He and Bruno had been working together on getting information on their possible suspect.

"The halfway house has a door buzzer so when Dylan gets home from work, he gets let in," Bruno explained.

"We need the surveillance footage from the house. Bruno, you and Velasco, get that footage and see how punctual Dylan is. Given that our quarry is at work now, I don't want to appear at his workplace. That'll give us away," Olivia frowned. She had a great fear that while George made a good point about his task, the convict may still try and take off. He had no particular reason to stay here if he was suspected of violating his parole.

"We'll whack his boss over the head in the morning. If Dylan asks, we're looking into the death of his cousin, Drew. What about Akiko's friends?" Elliot wanted to know.

"Jet and I have been covering the four other women in Akiko's pictures. Jet, I'm putting you on speaker phone," Rollins announced.

"Hi everyone," Jet said to the crew.

"Hey Jet. Appreciate you helping with this," Olivia spoke up.

"No problem, Captain. So, the four friends, Amanda start with Eliza," Jet said. Rollins took a photo she'd printed and slapped it up on the board. It was a white, blonde woman, with curly hair, in an old booking photo, which screamed 'had seen a better day'.

"Eliza Bristol, also known as Kitty. She has two arrests for prostitution but that was around the time that Akiko came to the US. Her record has been clean since and she has an office job now as a secretary. It's safe to say that she's turned her life around, perhaps with Akiko's help."

"Next up, Sarah Cannan," Rollins put another picture up on the board. This old booking photo showed a white, brunette who had the same vibe as Eliza's shot.

"She has an arrest for possession of heroin and one for prostitution. Again though, these crimes were around the time that Akiko came to the US. Sarah has no further charges on her sheet but her employment record reads of dead-end jobs. Bopping from waitressing job to waitressing job but she doesn't seem to have any big gaps in employment."

"Third is Joan Lamplugh," Rollins put the next picture up on the board and it was clearly from a driver's license. The redhead looked like an average woman and nothing stuck out.

"She has no record and teaches at PS eighty-one. That's literally all I found, besides the photos on social media. So seemingly completely normal," Jet paused while Rollins pulled out the last photo. It was another driver's license photo of an Asian woman with black hair.

"Last but not least, Yumi Nishikawa. She's a transplant like Akiko. Clean record; became a citizen. She works as an engineer in a consulting firm," Jet finished up.

"How would these five bump into each other? Does Caitlin Williams have a record?" Olivia asked.

"I can't answer the first one but I can answer the second. Caitlin has a history of being a guest of the state of New York. Though her last offense was just before the pandemic," Jet said.

"Why not mention Joan or Yumi to Klass?" George wondered.

"We need to ask Akiko. Elliot, George, with me. Jet, thanks again. Rollins, you and Dominick, head home. I'll keep you posted," Olivia promised.

"You better," Rollins teased.
