Chapter 2: Life With Demiyah, A Learning Day!:
Peri woke up the next morning ready for a day with his godchild. It was the weekend so he had two days to get to know her. Something he realized he hadn't really done with Dev. He came downstairs to see Demiyah in Pikachu print pajama pants, an oversized Mighty Ducks hockey Jersey, and pink fuzzy wolf slippers. She had a glass of soda in front of her which puzzled him. "Uh Kim is it okay for her to have soda this early in the morning?" Kim turned and chuckled, "One thing to know, her powers mess with her body. Namely she can't process Coffee or Tea before noon. So in terms of caffinated beverages Soda is the only thing we've found that works for her to perk her up in the mornings. Keep in mind this was trial and error with her doctor for weeks." Peri nodded amazed to learn something about his godchild. Tommy came in with grilled sausages and arepas. Peri confused asked, "What are those pancake like things?"
Tommy smiled and said, "Arepas our friend Rocky DeSantos' mom taught me and Kim how to make them in high school. As a whole the Rangers all consider each other family. Since to us Family doesn't end in blood. We are a battle sworn family joined together through bonds of trust, war, and determination to protect. So we are a multi-cultural, multi-religious, multi-planet, and multi-orientation family sworn to protect our homes as well as each other." Peri's eyes sparkled in understanding. Passing around food and laughing at the jokes said at the table, Peri started to miss Timmy. Demiyah asked, "Dad, what's wrong? Something on your mind?" Peri said, "Sorry, I just miss my godbrother Timmy." Kim asked, "Timmy?" Peri nodded, "Yeah his name was Timmy Turner. He was my parents godchild before Hazel. But I could tell they didn't think of him as their godchild and more thought of him as their son. So I spent seven years of my life calling him my big brother." Tommy asked, "So what's stopping you from talking to him?" Peri winced. This was not how he wanted to approach this subject with her. "When a godkid turns eighteen they lose their fairies. But they also lose their memories. They have their memories wiped." Demiyah shouted, "That's been illegal since 1973! Longer than that among magical kingdoms! Because of all of the negative side effects and long term problems that can appear." Peri choked on his eggs, "Wait what?! If that's the case why was Uncle Jorgen enforcing it?!"
Tommy said, "My guess, the so called 'rulers' of Fairy World since it's rightful rulers vanished without a trace. Probably why they also say, Magical Buildup is fatal. It was changed to be that way. From medical reports it's virtually identical to Magical Oversurge. Bleed it off in a safe way, some rest, and foods easy on the stomach like soups or light sandwhiches for a few days a week at most. From there your right as rain." Peri drank his coffee a thoughtful look on his face. That was so different than the Fairy Council warned them about in the Fairy Academy. This was so confusing. Kim said, "Today we're going grocery shopping. Both Magical and Non Magical. This way you can have some snacks and the like for yourself. Besides, this gives me a chance to restock a few healing potions we need around the house. We see both a Non-Magical doctor Dana Grayson she sees all Rangers. As well as Magical Healers. Healer Trevor Micheals for Tommy and I while Demiyah sees his wife Kathy." Demiyah when she was more alert squealed. "Tommorow's my favorite day of the month!" Tommy laughed, "Third Sunday of every month she makes sweets and various packed lunches to pass out around the park and area around it. It's a very special moment for her. She's seen first hand how bad it can get for some people. Mostly kids who are abandoned by their parents simply for having powers. Demiyah does this to spread a little hope and good will. Ranger cities have shelters and the like but they can only do so much. Demiyah said it herself, she was lucky having supportive parents. They weren't as lucky. Besides, if we're lucky we might see some supposed 'fictional' characters." Peri chuckled as he finished up his breakfast. He watched as Demiyah danced up the stairs into her room.
She came down almost thirty minutes later in a white, teal, and pink tie dye short sleeve T-shirt, blue overall shorts, pink sneakers, a silver and pink watch, a silver pendant with a Pegasus charm, a sky blue ribbon tying back a ponytail, a silver bracelet that had pink designs along with a single pink gem it, and a jester hat hairpin that was Red and Blue. She also had a second hairpin that was a black spider. The colors were odd but he accepted it. Since Kim wore a lot of Pink and Purple while Tommy wore a lot of Green, White, Red, and Black. He didn't advertise it often but nights his mom would have girls nights with his Aunt and grandma Cosma at his father's insistance since there were mutual people they both hated such as Juandissimo and Binky his father would tell him stories of the Power Rangers of the Silver Millennium. Not just Heroes, but valliant Knights and Warriors protecting all people. Growing up, he loved hearing those stories. Cosmo Julius Cosma might not have been the sharpest pencil in the pack, but one thing he knew was how to bring his stories to life. It made him miss the simple days with his parents and Timmy.
The ride to the Magical district of Reefside was eye opening to say the least. So much was wrong with what they had been teaching in the Fairy Academy! There were things that ranged from completely inaccurate to straight up false! He was amazed at the different products for sale. Like Unicorn Milk, Honey Flavored Grasshopper Flakes, something called Man Dough, and several other amazing if slightly unusual products for sale. He saw premade spell beads, plants that sprouted Power Crystals, and very strange magical items. Such as grimoires, crystals, keys or talismans that summoned spirits in a familiar type contract, and magical weapons. So many different things and wares it was incredible! Peri looked around and saw a very familiar guitar. "The White Wand? How did it get here?" Demiyah came up to him and saked, "You recognize that Peri? It went missing from the Silver Millennium's armory a thousand years ago." Peri thought for a moment before remembering Magic Schools and he supposed Ranger Schools taught about the Silver Millennium. "Yeah I do. The Darkness or Chaos as I later learned it's name was attacked when my brother was about eleven years old. He used the White Wand after obtaining it from a KISS concert in Vegas against the Darkness. Don't have enough gold to buy it back though." Saying the last part bitterly. Demiyah having not spent any of her gold said, "Then let's your big brother's magical artifact back!" Peri blinked as Demiyah dragged him in the shop. She recognized the man a known shark and con man. Demiyah smirked her eyes glowing Silver and said, "Here's how this is going down. You give me the clearly stolen Magical Electric Guitar then go turn yourself into the Auror's down the strip. Hand over all your records of thefts too." As if by being puppeted he handed over the White Wand and left the shop stunning Peri. He asked in shock, "What was that?!"
Demiyah said, "When I was seven I was spending the Weekend with Granny Caroline and Gandpa Pierre. We were at an arcade near the Playtime Co. building. I saw what I thought was a Catnap plush doll so I picked it up intending to hand it to an employee so they could look for the owner. However a man Harley Sawyer drugged me and when I woke up I was strapped to a chair. He laughed and told me to and I quote, 'Be a good girl. The two procedures will hurt I will be honest, but once their over you won't even remember it.' I demanded to know what he meant. He just laughed and told a man to come in and that his new patient was ready for him. Six hours of drug enhanced pain he forced electroshock braces which I never needed by the way on me. Harley Sawyer came up to me an evil gleam in his eyes and said, 'Sorry oh wait no I am not sorry tosay this, but your Human life is over. Bye bye Demiyah Oliver the human and Hello to the newest resident of Playcare the newest Smiling Critter WIldheart Wolf.' He jammed a needle in my arm and emptied a syringe labeled 'Smiling Critter Shapeshifter Serum' into my bloodstream."
Peri asked, "What happpened after that?" He was horrified his Godchild went through this. "Five months I spent being abused, experimented on, and tortured by the Playcare scientists. One I only vaguely recognized as 'Kevin' left for a while one day claiming 'family problem be back soon' only he brought the Power Rangers to save us. The locks on our human forms and memories were broken but my friends and I can still shift into our Smiling Critter forms plus a Plushy form and an animal form similar to our default animal. We each also have a power from our Critter Forms. You saw my power makes me a walking Imperious Curse, I rarely if ever have to use my power. I did on him because he's known by many Bounty Hunter's as a theif and con man selling stolen items." Peri nodded humming in thought.
Demiyah claimed the White Wand and the pair continued to explore the Magical District. Peri and Demiyah did stop by the sweetshop and split a pick n mix bag. Some of this stuff like the chocolate was amazing. He'd have to come back and buy some for his mom. As he inherited her chocolate addiction. Something the Tooth Fairy just shook her head at. He found a few books that caught his interest. He was surprised with a pendant that could turn into a shield from Demiyah. "I attract insanity like you wouldn't believe. So my way of making sure your safe." Peri laughed and hugged Demiyah. "Thanks a lot kiddo."
They met up with Tommy and Kimberly who loaded the trunk with the purchases for the Magical side of the groceries. Peri noticed a lot of unusual stuff included, salted organs? Demiyah said, "I'm a Bloodline Sanada not only the Main Branch I'm Heiress. I have both Inferno Armors. The salted organs are for my demon contract Alastor." Peri was stunned at the name drop of the Radio Demon, he was very well known. The fact Alastor bonded to a Sanada should have been big news! Yet until then, he hadn't heard about it. Why was she trying to keep quiet about the fact? A question to ask her another day he supposed.
He was confused when she talked a few thugs trying to rob someone down pointing them to a nearby shelter. "Demiyah, don't take this the wrong way, but isn't that a bad idea?" peri asked. Demiyah shrugged and replied, "Good or Bad. Right or Wrong is totally subjective. Try looking past the surface for a change." As if from nowhere music started playing from who knows where.
Demiyah: Right and Wrong
Cruel and Kind
Who's to say?
Peri didn't really understand but joined in. If only to get a good idea about Demiyah's thought process.
Peri: There's a Code that I believe in
Demiyah: Every choice you're gonna find there's shades of grey
Peri: There's Rules for a reason!
The purple hair and eyed fairy was pleading with her as if to try to talk sense into her.
Demiyah: Robin Hood
Peri: Yeah?
Demiyah: Awesome guy
Peri: Yeah!
Demiyah: You'd agree?
Peri: But he stole for the poor
Demiyah: So you could then cross that line theoretically
Peri: I don't know you anymore
The purple haired fairy really had no idea what she was going on about.
Demiyah: The decision's always up to you
When there's only one thing left to do
Gotta get your hands dirty
Just jump headfirst into the mess
Gotta get your hands dirty
Give it your Worst
Give it your Best
Bad and Good
Shouldn't and Should
Isn't always Black and White
Gotta get your hands dirty to get it right
Alright, alright
Peri: Okay, but there are some universal truths you must recognize
Demiyah: Like?
Peri was really hoping to teach her this lesson to hopefully avoid a repeat of the Dev situation.
Peri: Valiant knights pure and good guaranteed
Demiyah: *shrugs* The depends on what their fighting for
Peri: Creepy witches selling potions for Evil Deeds
Demiyah: She could have kids she's proving for
Peri: If your good, good things will come to you
Demiyah: *Rolls eyes* A broken record shows that's not true
Peri: That's not fair!
Demiyah: But that's how it's going
You're a nice guy
But your Princess is showing
Peri: Life's a complicated game it seems
It really did seem like it to the fairy.
Demiyah: Sometimes you can't afford to play it clean
Gotta get your hands dirt (I don't know)
Just junp headfirst into the mess
Gotta get your hands dirty (Maybe so)
Give it your Worst
Give it you Best
Peri and Demiyah: Bad and Good
Shouldn't and Should
Isn't always Black and White
Demiyah: Gotta get your hands dirty
To get it right (Right)
Alright, alright
Peri felt his own morals actually changing? The idea scared him but also made him confused? He just hoped there was a stopping point.
Peri: But just how far do you go?
How much do you compromise?
Oh, tell me, how do you know?
Where do you draw the line?
That was a thought he was very concerned about.
Demiyah: There's nothing I wouldn't do
If my Heart tells me it's right
If it's for someone I love
If it's to save a life
In that moment things he had been openly denying to that point finally clicked into place.
Peri: To save a life
Demiyah and Peri: Gotta get your hands dirty
Just jump headfirst into the mess
Gotta get your hands dirty
Give it your Wrost
Give it your Best
Bad and Good
Shouldn't and Should
Isn't always Black and White
Gotta get your hands dirty to get it right
Gotta get your hands dirty to get it right
Peri: Alright
Demiyah: Alright
Peri laughed as they walked through the human supermarket. "Hey sorry I tried to impart a view I didn't fully understand on you." Demiyah giggled, "It's fine Peri really. We're still in the whole 'get to know you better' phase. I don't expect you to know what I'm thinking 24/7 at any given point. Especially since there's still a lot about me you don't know." Peri sighed and said, "Yeah your probably right." The pair along with Kim and Tommy picked out meat, veggies, fruit, canned goods, frozens, and various other things loading them into the car.
Once the groceries were brought in and put away Peri lounged on his bed reading one of the books he bought. "Man, why do I feel like there's something really important I should know about her?"
Down in the Dino Lair Demiyah was talking to a bubble and what looked walking dentures on a computer, "Repairs are going fine Rush. Caine, I mean Blues and yourself should be back in your repaired Robot Master bodies in the next couple of weeks. Gangle, I mean Amy said it'll be a snapt to fix the base motor function programming. Anyways, I have to get upstairs. Big day ahead tomorrow." The walking dentures said, "It's fine Pomni, pardon, Demiyah." The bubble said, "Sweet dreams Princess."
Little did the two know that over the next two weeks, the wishes Demiyah would make would bring the two closer together and reveal a massive cover up by not only the Fairy Council but by people Demiyah once thought she could trust.
