Whips Lighting went through his body as he lay on the ground in the darkness of the New York subway. Newton Artemis-Fido Scamander held onto his body as he was lying there. Newt wished he had his brother with him. Normally he didn't want him, but he wished his brother could save him now.
"Do you wish to be invisible?" Percival Graves said to him, standing over him. He had a twisted smile on his face. Newt didn't answer, he was in pain.
"Do you want to disappear? You can be the person you want to be without anyone telling you what to do," he said sitting down on the tracks in front of Newt who was flinching in pain.
Newt didn't answer. He was in too much pain to answer; he didn't wish to join this man. He almost had him killed.
Graves laughed. "Well, I can answer for you," he said, picking up the younger wizard and apparated out of there.
Newt cried out in pain when he woke up. When did he fall asleep? He didn't know.
"Where…where am I?" he asked himself, looking around him. He was tied to a chair in a dark room. He couldn't see any windows and only one door was in front of him.
"Welcome Mr. Scamander," a slow voice said before laughing. Newt couldn't see the man in front of him, but he had his suspicions about who had taken him.
"Grindelwald," Newt said, his voice full of pain. Grindelwald nodded in the darkness before he turned on the lights. Newt closed his eyes in the blinding light. When Newt opened his eyes, he sighed at the mixed features of the older wizard ahead of him.
"My offer still stands, Mr. Scamander," he said, walking over to Newt slowly. He laughed and rolled his eyes when Newt didn't answer him. He leaned over to Newt's ear making the younger man tense.
"I can make you disappear," he whispered into Newt's ear. Newt flinched at how his voice sounded. "You can live with your beasts; no one would bother you. You can be free. I can make you free."
Newt's whole body shook. He would not give in, but it sounded so tempting. He even smiled at the thought. Alone with only his beasts.
"I can even teach you the spells you never learned," Grindelwald added. Newt looked up at him, but he did not meet his eyes.
"You don't mean— not those spells, do you?" he asked. He doesn't know why he was talking to him. Grindelwald shook his head.
"No, you don't seem the type, but I can teach you the others," he answered, standing up. He patted Newt's leg. "I'll let you think about it," he added before he put Newt's wand on the table in front of him. He laughed when Newt looked at it, then turned off the lights again.
Join Grindelwald? Should he do this? It sounded so intriguing.
But what about Theseus— what about his brother? He will have to fight him. Newt may have a tough time with him, but he doesn't want to hurt his brother.
Newt shook his head. No, he will not join him. He will never join him. No matter what he says. Newt nodded to himself before he realized that he didn't know how he would get out of there. He thought of trying to fake join him and then run, but immediately dismissed the idea. That would never work.
Newt sighed. How did this happen? He just wanted to save someone, and this happened. 'What would Theseus do?' he thought, looking around the dark room. He allowed his eyes to adjust but he still found nothing.
"I can make you disappear," Grindelwald's voice echoed in his mind. He didn't know why.
'Join him,' his mind told him. What— no! Why did he think that? Maybe his mind was right? Newt shook his head violently as if to escape his thoughts. Newt shifted in his seat, waiting for Grindelwald to come back.
However, Grindelwald never came back. Newt didn't know why, but he hoped that someone would find him. He closed his eyes hoping that this was a dream. He sat there for a while before he heard the door unlock.
"I will join you," Newt said to the person in the doorway. Only, the light turned on and Newt saw his brother Theseus.
"Brother?" Theseus said, walking slowly over to Newt.
"Theseus? This— this isn't a dream?" Newt asked as Theseus untied the ropes around Newt's arms.
"No, I'm right here. You were missing, I was told you went after Grindelwald. So, I made my way here."
"Where are we?" Newt asked once Theseus had helped him stand.
"We are near the tracks Grindelwald was captured," Theseus said, helping Newt walk.
"He wanted me to join him. I…I almost did," Newt said before he cried out in pain.
"You're going to be okay, little brother," Theseus said, walking with Newt to the door.
'I'm sorry," Newt said with a small sigh.
"It's all right. Now, let's get you some help, all right?" Theseus said, fixing his little brother's hair as if to do something. Newt nodded before he closed his eyes for a second. He was never going to be safe with Grindelwald. Newt shook his head. He needed to worry about fixing the memories of everyone now, but he knew that he was safe in his brother's arms right at that moment.
