Chapter 296
Steve got off the plane in the Bahamas and found out that the Military Convoy he had sent to get Rowan had been taken down and they had lost Rowan. He had a feeling Wo Fat would hit hard, but to take on a Military Convoy was insane. But then… he had done it before hadn't he? It was how Wo Fat got himself on Steve's radar six years ago. The military were obviously very angry with Steve for downplaying just how hard Wo Fat would come after Rowan and they supplied him with evidence of just how bad it was.
The aerial footage of Rowan jumping out of that humvee and onto a moving sports car had been heart stopping. Watching her slide across the roof of the car and then slipping into the car via the passenger side window had concerned him. Even if she had someone holding onto her and helping her with it filled him with equal parts of pride and fear. What the hell had Wo Fat been teaching her while he had her?
She was pulling tricks like Steve, Danny had said. He now understood why Danny panicked when he pulled stunts like that. But he wasn't going to tell Danny that.
They had been waiting. Steve had paced back and forth like a caged animal. He knew where they were going to dock. And he knew why. The plane sent by Armando Diaz had been taken at the airport, the captain detained and interrogated.
Flight path was set for Japan. They were told they were picking up three people. No bags. They were going to come off a boat. A boat that was somewhere in the bay and was waiting for dark, they were going to dock in a near-by port and use it as cover to get the small airstrip next to it.
Steve had been right to assume that as soon as he screwed with Wo Fat's plan he'd fall back to hiding. But why go back to Japan if the best place to hide was Colombia? If he got Rowan to Colombia, he could recreate her again and it would take another year to find her again.
Steve's heart couldn't take another year of this. Steve was not going to wait another year to straighten all of this out.
He tried his very hardest not to take the phone call she made when TSA picked her up in Bahamas to heart. She had been lied to, just like he had, and he figured that she'd be mad to hear that he sent people to arrest her. He also knew better than to try and explain over the phone she wouldn't have believed him.
His plan was to wait for them to be off the boat. Wait for Rowan to be in sight and then move in. And if Wo Fat got killed in the crossfire well, too bad.
Then he was going to sit Rowan down and they were going to talk this all over and figure out what happened. He just had to hope that she didn't open one of her portals and disappear, because if she did, they'd lose her. He was saying a prayer to every god who'd listen that she was still on that boat.
"The boat has just finished docking," Kono's voice interrupted through the comm in his ear. She was up somewhere high with her sniper rifle acting look out. Immediately Steve began to twitch. So much so Danny put a hand to his arm to soothe him. But Steve could not be soothed. This was it. He was going to get Rowan back.
"Okay, they're coming down. We've got Wo Fat, there's Rowan…"
Steve didn't hear anything after that. Rowan was there. He could feel it. The air around him crackled with that intense desire. It set his blood on fire. He was moving before he registered that he was moving. He heard Danny hissing his name, but he couldn't stay still.
"Boss, they've gone into a warehouse on the south side, on the other side is a fence, they're probably going to climb it," Kono told him. "Oh… no… Rowan is not climbing that fence. I can tell by the hand gestures."
Steve could picture it now. All sass and windshield wiper motions. Now if he could only see her. He was heading in that direction, heading for the fence, his pistol out, ready to go.
"Wait, they're moving, I've lost sight of them," Kono said. "They've gone into another building."
Steve came to a stop. "You're right in front of it," she said and Steve turned. Just as he turned the door to the building on the other side of the fence opened.
It was Conejo. Conejo, the man who had washed up on Steve's beach, the man who had been guarding Rowan for the last year. The second he spotted McGarrett across from him he shouted Steve's name and then slammed the door shut. Steve didn't dare open fire, he didn't know where in the building Rowan was. But whoever was inside did not feel the same way. Bullets came flying at them so Steve and Danny threw themselves to the ground.
"We've got movement!" Kono cried. Steve looked up in time to see two figures hop the fence. He got up, he didn't care about the chance of him being shot. He followed the two figures hopping the fence. He knew it had to be Rowan and Wo Fat.
He gave chase, through the field and into the small terminal, more like a small garage. But it wasn't two figures he saw, but one.
"WO FAT!" Steve shouted and the man came to a halt. He turned, his arms raised, his chest heaving. He peered at him looking like a villain straight out of a horror film with his face half burned and that scowl on his lips. Steve glared at him, hating this man with every fibre of his being. Wo Fat hadn't won yet, in fact it looked an awful lot like he was about to lose.
"Where is she?" Steve asked, his gun raised and aiming straight for center mass.
Wo Fat said nothing to him but he was glancing at boxes to his left. Someone was behind there, Steve had a feeling it was either Rowan or one of his men with a gun.
"I know you've lied to me, and to her," Steve said. "But I'm prepared to let you go, just give her back to me and you can walk away from this."
It was a lie. If Wo Fat could tell lies so could he.
"I told you, Commander," Wo Fat said. "You're never going to see her again."
Steve felt his lip curl up in his anger. He might have said something like: "I swear to God…" but the words died on his lips before he could register what he was trying to say. There was a flash of movement and then Rowan was in front of Wo Fat shouting: "NO!" and blocking his shot to Wo Fat's chest.
Steve stared at her. He hadn't seen her in the flesh since the concert. And it was the first time he had seen her without the red-haired disguise she had been wearing. She looked so pretty, with her shortened dark brown hair, in a designer little black dress that was hugging all the right curves and her bare feet. She had tears in her eyes as she stood there. Tears that shouldn't have been there.
The pistol in Steve's hand drooped. He couldn't take his eyes off of her. She was there, right in front of him, for the first time in the longest time ever. For the first time since that concert. Not a picture, not a video. The real, live, her. If he could just get her away from Wo Fat, he could hug her, hold her to him.
And then Wo Fat wrapped his arm around her chest and his gun hand came up. Steve barely managed to recognize that there was a weapon in his hand, had no time to move out of the way. Rowan screamed "No!" again and knocked the gun away. The bullet went wide and nicked his shoulder, the force of it sending him spinning backwards and off his feet.
He heard Rowan scream his name and then she was there. She was above him. She was even more beautiful up close. There was so much he wanted to tell her but with the pain and the sudden fear that gripped him he couldn't. He didn't know how to say this right, didn't know what to say to her to make him believe her. She was worried about him, she was checking his shoulder, there were tears leaking from her eyes. So she cared. But he didn't have the perfect words to say to her, no grand romantic speech that, really, he should have had one ready for her. In his panic he gripped her instead and got lost looking into her big wide eyes.
All he could get out was: "He lied Rowan… he lied..."
Rowan managed to get out a: "What?" which told him that she hadn't heard him and then Wo Fat appeared not seconds later, tugging her up and trying to tug her away. Steve held on tighter, finding the strength to not only sit up but to even tug her a bit back. Rowan said his name again and Steve tugged her even harder. He must have been about to win, about to tug her back to him when Wo Fat's foot came down on his face. The kick connected with his jaw, the back of his head cracked against the ground.
As he faded into blackness he concentrated on one thing. Rowan screaming his name.
H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O
Rowan sat in the chair chewing her nails and tapping her bare foot. Wo Fat had been avoiding this talk, but now that he knew it was coming he was downright dreading it. He had distracted himself with setting a flight path now that their plane was in the air, Rowan had bandaged up her arm which was sporting red, bleeding scratches from where Steve's nails had torn into her. He knew that Five-0 had Conejo. That he was injured but not dead. He knew that Conejo wouldn't waste time in telling Steve all he wanted to know. He was finally truly out of options. He knew what he had to do, he had known for a while and after this incident there was no avoiding it. But he needed to approach this the right way so that the blow-back wouldn't hit Rowan.
He purposely took his time setting up his phone across from them so that McGarrett would get this video too. Steve had to know that Rowan wasn't aware of anything he had done, so that Wo Fat could hand her over when all of this was over. There was no way she'd forgive him, but it was worth a shot.
"What have you done, Oz?" she asked once he was sitting across from her.
Wo Fat frowned and clasped his hands together. "A lot of bad things," he admitted.
Rowan swore. "Please tell me you didn't do something to Catherine."
Wo really regretted telling that lie. "No, Catherine is fine."
"Are you sure? Because the man was demanding to find a woman, for you to give her back. I'm assuming it's his wife cause he can't want me," she cried.
"No Rowan," Wo Fat said softly and seriously. "He does want you."
This silenced Rowan. He could see it in her eyes she was trying to kill the hope before it took over. And it hurt him that he had done that to her.
"Why? Why does he want me now?"
Wo Fat looked at his hands as he sighed. "Rowan, I've lied to you about a great many things," he said. "When this is over, you're going to hate me."
"Lied to me about what?" she asked with narrowed eyes of suspicion.
"Everything."
Rowan just stared at him. She took in his stiff shoulders and the concern on his face and she softened.
"Okay, why don't you just start from the beginning," she said. "I'll try not to interrupt you. Just tell me what you did and you and I… you and I will get through this together."
Wo Fat stared at her. He had gotten so fond of her. She was his heart and soul, his conscience. She had taken him around the world and taught him to live again. He loved her as one would love a sibling and he was terrified of losing her. In fact, that fear had been what had started this. But he knew Rowan was unhappy and he wanted to fix that and at this point he was painted into a corner both by Steve and her questions. She had taught him to be unselfish and it was time to prove that he could be.
So, Wo Fat finally started telling her the truth.
H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O
When Steve woke up, he was in a hospital bed. His eyes were blinded by the bright fluorescent lights, stars drifted lazily about across his vision and he was sure he'd vomit if he dared to move. Text book symptoms of a concussion. He should be staying still, but he wasn't. He needed to move. He had found them, he had touched Rowan and the reminder that he felt her skin warm beneath his palm was giving him the resolve to pull himself into motion, despite the sickness in his stomach.
"Easy there, Sailor," a warm voice said and then Danny was beside him, holding him back down.
"Did you get them?" Steve asked. It was a long shot but maybe they did.
"No, they got away. There was… uh… a second plane. The uh… the private plane they said they was waiting on the mainland, yeah it was here the whole time. We were so distracted with the first plane we didn't even see it until it was too late. It took off before we could stop them. This manifest said they were heading to Colombia next but they've gone in the opposite direction," Danny told him. Steve shook his head, which hurt more than it should have or maybe the right amount because he was concussed after all. He knew it. He knew that the plan should have been to go to Colombia and now Wo Fat was going to do just that. It didn't matter now, Wo Fat was going to turn off the transponder so the plane could vanish, at least briefly before it hit primary radar again, but once it was over the ocean they were going to lose them.
"We lost the plane, right?" Steve asked.
"Yeah, an hour after it took off, it was over the Pacific Ocean at the time," Danny told him.
Steve closed his eyes and for a moment his head didn't hurt too much in this position. He had Rowan in his hands, literally he had grabbed onto her. Damn it, why hadn't he shot Wo Fat when he had the chance?
"It's going to be okay Steve, he'll have to land at some point and we'll get them," Danny said. "You're lucky, you know, I think you have a chance."
"What are you talking about?" Steve snapped. Steve was obviously holding out that there was hope, that Rowan would give him a second chance once he stole her back from Wo Fat. But why did the ever-pessimistic Danny think that? Did he have evidence? And if so, what was it?
"We have footage of you getting shot," Danny said. "A near-by security camera caught it. If it weren't for Rowan shoving Wo Fat out of the way he would have hit you in the throat. She saved your life, which means she still cares, which means you, my friend, have a chance."
Steve stared at him. He tried not to smile because that's what he had thought as well. He didn't dare let himself hope that Rowan would just run into his arms when they were finally reunited again. He'd probably have to fight with her to get her away from Wo Fat but he didn't care. It'd be worth it. He'd tell her what really happened, make Wo Fat tell her if he had to, and then they could go back to Hawaii and start the rest of their happily ever after together.
"You should try to rest up, the doctor's gonna come through in a bit to see when you'll be good to go," Danny said to him but Steve shook his head again.
"We need to be chasing down leads," Steve said instead struggling to get up. "There has to be someone around who knows where they're going. He had a whole team of people attack that military convoy to get her back, are you telling me that we can't find any of them?"
Danny stared at him, the way he did so told him that he was holding him back. "What? What aren't you telling me?"
"We did get one of them," Danny said. "Her bodyguard. Sin Nombre. Kono and Chin are trying to get him to open up but he's so far he's not talking."
Steve bolted up in bed and Danny put a hand out to push him back to the pillows. He must have been weak because Danny had no problem getting him back into bed. "You gotta let me at him," he pleaded. "I can make him talk."
"Steve, honestly, we don't think he knows anything. Wo Fat's off plan apparently. And if he's off plan then this guy… he's not gonna know what's happening. We're just going to have to wait until the plane reappears on Radar," Danny told him. "There is no point in getting worked up until that happens."
That was unacceptable. By then it would be too late. Wo Fat would have hours of a head start on them. He essentially could vanish and take Rowan under the radar and it would take forever for Steve to find them again. Steve didn't want to have to wait that long, he wanted her now, or at least to give her the option of coming back with him.
Steve flopped back to the pillows and glared at Danny. The look alone was enough to make his partner smile and for a moment he was certain Danny read his mind.
"You can pout all you want, Sailor. You can't go chasing bad guys if you're injured," he chided.
"If we hear anything I'm leaving," he told him and Danny sat back and shook his head. Steve closed his eyes again and tried not to laugh when he heard Danny mutter: "Putz" under his breath.
Maybe Danny was right, and everything was going to be okay after all.
H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O
They had found them. The plane had been spotted, the tail number had changed but it was the plane, TSA was sure of it. This one had a flight plan. It was landing in Hawaii. On Oahu.
Wo Fat was taking her home?
Steve had fought his way out of the hospital once he got the news. He didn't care if a doctor cleared him to fly, he didn't care if his brain liquefied while he was up in the air, he was getting to Hawaii come hell or high water. He'd fucking swim there if he had to.
Danny had argued with him of course, but nothing had stopped them. They boarded a military plan, all of his Five-0 family, plus the incapacitated bodyguard and they headed back to Hawaii.
They were still in the air when Rowan's plane landed. Though they sent Duke and the rest of HPD to the plane not moments after it landed, they didn't find Rowan or Wo Fat inside. Only the pilot was inside, passengers were gone. All that was left on the plane was a laptop with a note on it.
"For McGarrett."
It had been left until his arrival. When he got there, he sat down in the seat and stared at it. Danny was crouched beside him, Kono and Chin were somewhere behind. He opened up the laptop and found that a video was awaiting him, all he had to do was press play.
Steve just stared at it. The last couple videos Wo Fat had sent him had been positive, but he still wasn't over that one he had sent of Rowan's torture. Basically, Steve was still too traumatized, he was scared to see what this video was. It wasn't that he thought Wo Fat would torture Rowan or hurt Rowan purposely to get to Steve, but what if this was video evidence of Rowan wanting to get away from him? Wanting to stay with Wo Fat? But then why come to Hawaii?
"You gonna press play or what?" Danny asked and Steve realized that he couldn't be afraid forever. He needed to see what this was and with his family rallying around him he would be strong. He wasn't sure that he'd be able to without them.
Steve obliged him. With one click the video started. At first it was just Wo Fat's midriff as he set up the camera. When he was done he walked away to reveal Rowan and where she was sitting. But it wasn't until he was sitting that Rowan started talking.
"What have you done, Oz?" she asked. Her voice strained.
Wo frowned and clasped his hands together, they were both sitting in airplane chairs, across from one another. Steve was sitting in the one that Rowan had been in. Rowan was still in that beautiful black open back dress they had picked her up in, though now it seemed torn in places and rather dirty. Her feet were no longer bare but she was wearing men's socks, and she was wearing Wo Fat's suit blazer. She had a glass of something bubbly, he'd guess ginger ale but he didn't know her well anymore, maybe she liked champagne now. Either way she hadn't touched the drink.
"A lot of bad things," Wo Fat admitted.
Rowan swore. "Please tell me you didn't do something to Catherine."
"No, Catherine is fine."
"Are you sure? Because the man was demanding to find woman. I'm assuming it's his wife cause he can't be looking for me," she cried.
"Wife? No. No I don't have a wife. He really told her I had a wife? And she believed him?" Steve cried but Danny shushed him.
"No Rowan," Wo Fat snapped. "He is looking for you."
This silenced Rowan. The two of them just stared at each other. Rowan was the first to break eye contact, her eyes flew down to her hands which were twisting in her lap. She was nervous, this was making her nervous.
"Why? Why is he looking for me now?"
Steve shook his head. It wasn't fair. He had been looking for, yes he had stopped for a bit when he thought Rowan didn't want to be with him, but he had been looking originally.
Wo Fat looked at his hands as he sighed. "Rowan, I've lied to you about a great many things," he said. "When this is over, you're going to hate me."
"Lied to me about what?" she asked with narrowed eyes of suspicion.
"Everything."
"Tell her Wo…" Steve found himself murmuring. "Tell her what you did."
Rowan just stared at him. She looked conflicted. She looked confused. But she looked determined the most. "Okay, why don't you just start from the beginning," she said. "I'll try not to interrupt you. Just tell me what you did and you and I… you and I will get through this together."
There was a very long pause before Wo Fat carefully said: "Okay, I'm going to start with the very first lie."
"Okay?"
"Steve did come to Japan to look for you," he blurted out.
"What? When?" Rowan cried.
"In the beginning."
"WHAT?!" Rowan shouted. "You said he didn't come, Wo. You were very clear about that."
"She really didn't know," Steve breathed out. He had known for some time that Rowan was under the impression that he hadn't come to Japan to look for her, but seeing her realize it with his own two eyes was something else entirely.
"I lied Rowan. I had to," he told her which won him one of her typical glares, the one that conveyed that she didn't believe him. "Let me finish, okay? All of my associates were forwarded a video, the one of them torturing you in the hopes of it finally getting to me. But it wasn't until Juan got it that I finally got a chance to see it. I immediately gathered my weapons and a small battalion of men and moved in on your position. It took me a whole day to get to you, that was just the flight, I was ready to hit that compound the second my plane touched the ground and that was exactly what I did. You called McGarrett maybe… an hour or so before I ambushed the building. He was about a day behind us.
"I got you to a doctor to get you looked at, to get your arm set and your lungs drained. I had every intention of telling him where you were, of getting you back to him. But I asked you how he hadn't noticed you were missing until you called him and you told me about the argument. About how he wanted you to pick between me and him. How he said he was going to propose to Catherine and you said you were going to choose me. How you had left and that was when Gabriel's men grabbed you. You told me you loved him and that for a little while you were going to pick him until you got him to concede and then we could talk again. Call me selfish or whatever else you want, but the thought of letting you go, of not being able to talk to you scared me, especially after what had happened. So, I did something about it.
"I had the plan in motion before he even landed in Japan. I had already set fire to the building you had been held in. I'm not sure why I did it, originally, to be honest. To destroy evidence. To send a message. Maybe just because I was angry. But now it served a greater purpose. I now had a distraction. I sent McGarrett an edited video I had received of your torture and I blamed him for this happening to you. But I knew he wouldn't just let you go, he was determined to find you so I had to give him something to get him off our backs. The first lie I told wasn't even told to you, Ro. McGarrett needed a body, so I gave him a body to find," he finished.
He hadn't once looked up to her, at least he seemed ashamed by his actions. Probably because he was upset that she had gotten hurt, it was very unlikely that Wo Fat gave a shit about how this had affected Steve.
"You… you initiated the Captain America Contingency plan without my consent… you… you told him I was dead?" Rowan sputtered. Steve couldn't take his eyes off of her. She honestly hadn't been aware of his suffering and she looked stricken just thinking about it now. It made him feel a little bit better, but not by much.
"It was the only thing I could think of. And it worked," he admitted. "Just long enough for me to get you into Switzerland and off the grid."
"Okay… so what? He just figured out I was alive now?" she asked.
"No. That ruse lasted maybe a week," Wo Fat admitted. "And he was furious. He put you back on the no-fly list and then I had two problems. You were asking for Steve. Steve was back in Japan trying to find you and moving in fast. But I had expected this, I was prepared, maybe not for the speed and the ferocity of his desire to find you, but I was, to some extent, ready for this. Both of your phones… they had been bugged by Sandy… she had been pulling sound bytes for months… snippets I could use to cobble together something, anything that could resemble… a conversation."
"That phone call wasn't real was it?" Rowan asked.
No. No! The only reason he gave up so quickly was because of that phone call. That phone call had ended him, and now, not only was that phone call faked, Rowan had gotten a similar one too? That explained why she had thought he had told her not to come back and not the other way around.
"No," Wo Fat admitted. "It was a recording. Steve got a similar one saying that you wanted to stay with me. After that he went back to Hawaii."
"Oh, Oz, how could you?" Rowan asked him. "You must have seen how miserable I was!"
"Of course I did, you think I didn't feel guilty every single time I saw that look in your eyes? I felt terrible. But I thought, if I could show you the world, go through your bucket list, show you that I could be normal too, that maybe you could let him go. I mean, you had a new guy every place we stopped, you could have easily picked any one of them but you didn't want any of those guys."
She had a guy every… that… oh god. That wasn't what he wanted to hear at all. But he was curious about why she didn't want those guys. Please let it be because she really just wanted him.
"Okay, but… none of that matters. He went back and made his choice. He chose Catherine. He married her," she reminded him. When Wo Fat winced she frowned. "No. You did not fabricate that. You showed me a wedding invitation… and photos! How could you?!"
"I needed to tell you something after that phone call you made," Wo Fat said. "If you hadn't talked to him on his birthday, I wouldn't have had to invent a wedding out of nowhere."
"You son of a bitch!" Steve erupted. No wonder Rowan hadn't tried to contact him after he had told her the truth. She thought he had actually gone and married Catherine.
"So, what changed? If he thought I chose you and I didn't want to come back, why does he want me now?"
"I looked into that. All of this got jumpstarted by his injury, you know the one you went to go visit him in the hospital for?" he asked. And Steve felt his mouth run dry. Rowan had visited him in the hospital? No. No she couldn't have. He had dreamed that up. He had to have. She was in California when he got shot, how would she have gotten there and back? Had… had she used the void?
"Well a week after he got out of the hospital, I got an alert saying that he put you on the No-Fly list again, with a strict note telling Interpol to send you to the nearest Naval Base for holding. But that didn't matter, I've had you flying under an alias since leaving Colombia in case there was an issue after what happened and we've been jumping since Canada so..."
What did jumping mean? What did that mean?
"And you decided you wanted to cut your hair and get a complete overhaul on your appearance and it just worked out. I don't know how he found out about Rory Wickerby, but he did and put her on the No-Fly list as well. I don't know how he knew we were on the cruise because I used one of Con's aliases not yours or mine, but that's the real reason why you got picked up when we got off the boat," he told her.
Rowan was silent for a moment. She stared down at the table between them as if it held all the answers. Steve held his breath, waiting to see what she'd say.
"So, what do you want to do?" Wo Fat asked.
Rowan sighed. "I don't know. What if he doesn't really want me back? What if you were right and he's just trying to get to you through me?"
"No," Steve growled. "You tell her the truth!"
Wo Fat pulled out a laptop, the same one that Steve was viewing the video on right now. "I have videos, you know," he said. "I have the one where he first found out you were dead."
Rowan was in the process of saying that she didn't want to see it when the laptop was turned to her and a god-awful wailing came out of it. One that he recognized belonged to him. She stared at it in horror. "It's not so much a video as a soundtrack. You don't really see anything. I'm told it's because he's collapsed to the floor." Wo Fat told her.
Rowan shut the laptop before anything else could be said. "That was terrible," she said. Wo Fat immediately opened it up again and started typing again.
"Okay, but what about this one…" he said and pushed another button.
It was Steve's voice, thick with tears.
God I'm so sorry Rowan. I'm so fucking sorry. I shouldn't have pushed you away. I shouldn't have told you I was going to marry Catherine. Not when all I really wanted was to marry you. Fuck, you were supposed to be my forever, the girl who stayed. God I wanted you so bad. I should have come after you as soon as I knew you were in Japan. I should have told you how I felt about you. Maybe if I had… maybe…
His voice broke because, had knew this, tears were being shed. Rowan was almost crying herself, she slapped the laptop shut again and then just sat there, her chest heaving. She thought a minute before saying: "But that was before. It's been a year. He easily could have changed his mind."
Wo Fat stared at her. He seemed to think all of this over. "You're right," he said after a long paused.
"NO!" Steve roared. "You know I'm looking for her! You know I want her back!"
Danny put a hand to Steve's arm to calm him down but he was far from calm. Why had the plane come here if Rowan had doubts, if Wo Fat had agreed with those doubts? Dread was sinking into his stomach. He watched Wo Fat stand, watched as he moved over to Rowan.
"Shall we put your Commander McGarrett to the test?" he asked her, blocking Steve's view of her.
They didn't get to hear what Rowan said. There was the sound of static and a yelp from Rowan and she jerked out of her chair and to the floor. Steve sat straighter, what had he done, what had happened? He hadn't just tazed her, had he?
Wo Fat turned back to the camera and knelt down in front of it blocking their view of Rowan who had last been twitching on the floor. "Alright, McGarrett, you have twelve hours from when this video ends to find her. We will be somewhere in Hawaii. I'll be sure to leave you clues to follow. But if you don't find us by the end of the twelve hours, I will be taking Rowan away with me and I will make sure that you never find us again. Happy hunting, Commander."
And then the screen went blank and the twelve-hour count down popped up. Steve stood up glaring down at the numbers counting down the time until he could hold Rowan again. If Wo Fat thought he was ferocious when he was trying to find her a year ago, he was going to think Steve was deadly now. He was going to find Rowan if it was the last thing he did.
And he was going to start with her body guard.
